It’s all so phony….
That video is disturbing. Just like that baby Kevin(?) ad which appealed to our basic fears and the basic maternal instinct to protect children. This ad appeals to the universal desire to be accepted and to be part of the in-crowd, younger adults are more vulnerable to appeals like this.
Right now, I am feeling pretty hopeless. I wish the McCain campaign would get on top of this (no pun intended). There is a group of intelligent, concerned young adults out there who do not like Obama. They remind him of all the fake people they know who try to charm and lie their way in life without having a lot of substance to them. They see who he has surrounded himself with, and they know it’s not right. There are young adults who admire experience and value wisdom. They look at their parents and grandparents with great respect and admiration. They look at their peers and see many people who are shallow, materialistic, self-absorbed spoiled, and when they see these same people fawning all over Obama, that alone makes them question Obama. I hope McCain, PUMA will not write off these people. There are many. One thing I hope PUMA and McCain will avoid doing is giving away the young vote to Obama. He doesn’t have all of them. I do see sometimes that there is a division, both by McCain, the press, Obama, and yes, PUMA between old and young. There is a group of young adults who supported Clinton, who have strong doubts about Obama, PUMA please reach out to them. Senator McCain, please reach out to them.
Anonymous- Don’t despair- I know too that there are many many young adults supporting Hillary. Not all have ingested the poison Kool-Aid.
Take heart- My daughter made up her own mind- NOBAMA ever! She was quick to see how horribly Hillary (and by extension all women) were treated. She’s not getting on that bus.
My daughter is just a typical young women with a head on her shoulders (and Roe doesn’t scare her either- like Uppity- she knows how not to get pregnant.)

I’m speechless, but if you watch MTV, E! and the CW network, then it’s obvious what appeals to youth these days.
Oh yeah…that will win the Catholic vote for Obama, eh? What a bunch of morons. They are so sure that the youth vote are going to win this election for Obama, they don’t need the Seniors—who would be very offended by this ad. So, Obama gives a speech at the pulpit of one of his churches and talks about dad’s who leave women with children and morality, and this is what the DNC wants to put on TV? Pandering to the classless Obamabot youth crowd may backfire on them…I hope.
The Youth Vote mistake has been tried before. Nobody registered more young voters than George McGovern. Remember, this was the baby boom. There is a fraction of those numbers today. The thing is, the youth vote is very unreliable. Just ask The Obama Girl. She didn’t vote in the primary but did make it to a party. Secondly, they are not anywhere near the majority of the voters. But they are the loudest and most obnoxious. The youth vote destroyed things for McGovern and Dukakis. They pissed off the electorate so badly that people were tripping over each other to go vote against them. This is all deja vu for me. The more obnoxious they become the better it is for the GE defeat.
There are very bright young people who see throught the Obama haze. They are capable of thinking about the issues, not just joining the latest virtual pep rally.
I totally agree with you on this, Uppity… the youth vote is historically less than reliable. It’s a long way to November. That’s a lot of time for short little attention spans. As the numbers drop off, the normal kids will wander off and all that will be left in Obama’s crowds will be the mentally weak, obnoxious creeps who worship him. The worse it gets, the more the electorate will be turned off.
I think that’s already happening. Lots of kids will loose interest for a long drawn out GE. He’s already “won” the nomination, so it’s over in their heads. On to the Next Big Thing… like pet rocks. If asked, these kids would claim support of Obama to a pollster, so they won’t disappear off the radar, but their votes can’t be counted on. Things will get interesting as we go.
