Recently, I wrote about how similar Obama’s supporters are to those of George McGovern–channeling the nastiest of their offensive characteristics and philosophies. In McGovern’s case, it led to one of the biggest bashings in a General Election in history, save for Mike Dukakis. But I will save Dukakis for another day.
There have been many discussions of the astounding similarities between McGovern and Obama as fringe candidates who offended the senses of the majority of America, who by and large are not as loud as The Fringe — but who instead tend to register their disdain at the polls.
While channeling George McGovern, we would certainly hope that Obama is a bit more careful than George was in his selection of Vice Presidential partners, given the problem with Mr. Eagleton and his undisclosed foray into the world of Electro-Shock therapy. I do suppose that given recently uncovered Countrywide loan events, this would as a minimum rule out the loyal Senator Dodd, although there doesn’t appear to be a mental history. Just a history of pocketing about $80,000 in interest savings, while registering appropriate outrage on-cue and as he asked suffering American taxpayers to bail out the same subprime lender who gave him his “VIP” deal.
However, the use of music was also an integral part of the McGovern campaign, with one exception: George McGovern had far too much class and was far too much of an actual adult to do what Obama did on camera. Still, while today we have the Yes We Can song, created just for Obama, The Man Himself, in 1972 there was The McGovern Song, also written just for McGovern, The Man Himself. Unfortunately, I couldn’t locate the lyrics, but for $50 you can get your own copy of the The McGovern Song in it’s own special sleeve here. So we see yet another similarity between the two campaigns.
Here is the now famous, and hopefully soon to be infamous, Barack Obama “sun” logo (pre-”Presidential Seal”, of course)

Now let’s have a look at George McGovern’s”sun” logo:
Amazing, isn’t it? Or is Eerie a more appropriate word?

"This is not culture. This is not custom. This is criminal."
“Barack Obama: May you channel George McGovern all the way to November 4.”
Here, here!
I always thought Obama’s primary logo looked like the AT&T logo. Which kind of figures, I guess, since he’s so willing to give the telecoms a free pass on spying on American’s phone calls.
This is a great analysis!!! Do you mind if I cross post the link in a “collection” of rescued diaries on my blog?? Lady Boomer on the DFA/Obama link is also one that needs to be seen as well…
In the meantime, I’m also ticked off about this:
http://tinyurl.com/46nway
Here’s my beef with the DCCC and Richardson’s guy Teague…we real progressives had to “get over it” when they pushed out the progressive in the primary…
See what’s going on here with Richardson/Teague in NM..suddenly, the DCCC sends money…after bouncing out the progressive who ran last time amazingly well…
“DCCC Money Now in NM-CD2 for Richardson’s Guy HarryTeague…Where Were They When the Progressive Ran Last Time?? (The One Who Got 40% of the Vote, Then Was Shoved out of the Dem Primary the Race in 2008?)”
Infuriating….
Whoa Mary Ellen, also verrrrrrrrrrry interesting
Sure GRL, so ahead.
Uppity Woman- I might add that Obama and the DNC will probably be getting some big money from the telecom’s for their votes to give them immunity. Pelosi, Dean, Obama…the whole bunch of them are up to their eyeballs in dirty deals with AT&T and the like. I mean, really, think about what Pelosi said…all of the sudden she thinks it’s ok to spy on Americans and Obama…oh, he thinks it’s ok, too, because according to him, he’ll keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn’t get out of hand. Yeah….who’s guarding the chicken coop? The wolf…Obama.
Well Mary Ellen, I just bet being able to spy like that on Americans would be very attractive to people like them if they were to gain power.
Wow.. good one. I hope you get this up on NoQuarter toot-sweet.
Did you notice that McGovern’s sun hadn’t quite set yet, but Obama’s has? I suppose one could argue that it is sunrise. Still, either way it shows McGovern was in a better position via the doofus symbol. Either McGovern’s sun was rising higher in the sky, or its setting was prolonged. Obama is either an infant (well, yup) or is setting quickly into that sea– of whatever that sea is of.
I LOVE THIS UPPITY. WHAT AN EXCELLENT FIND!!
And by the way, just yesterday I was thinking about how McGovern’s era at least had great music. Jefferson Airplane… great stuff.
Rap? Basically rap be crap.
A
Uppity: Exactly! Obama is far more dangerous, IMO, than Bush ever was.
Intersting find on the McGovern logo.
Mary Ellen, I don’t believe the man has one original thought in his head, so it doesn’t surprise me that he would appropriate the AT&T logo or the presidential seal for that matter.
Dear Uppity Woman,
On June 19, 2008, we launched a new portal site http://www.nobamanetwork.com. Our mission is to support the Grass Roots Movement created by outraged citizens who support the 18 million Americans who placed their trust in a democratic system that betrayed us.
As is standard practice in Internet marketing, we have placed a link to your site on ours and we ask you to place our banner on your site.
Get our logo here: http://www.nobamanetwork.com/images/logo100.jpg. (Right click to save the logo.) Please link our logo back to http://www.nobamanetwork.com.
We are attempting to get a headcount to determine the size of this movement. Please let us know the number of your members, we would really appreciate it.
United we stand! Thanks for your time and support.
Blasphemy! My word!
Pimp the presedential seal???
Who ever so could stoop that low and then stand behind it approvingly, and grinning as though he scored?
Ick.
Hello Uppity,
As a long time democrat who has left for the Republicans, when is it the right time to start defending the Iraq war as a success.
I was against the war and gave the same speech the annointed one made back in 02. In fact I was originally for Dean because of his position on the war.
Times have changed as well as my thinking.
What began my change of thinking was the absurd comment by Bill Kristol when he said that history will view Bush as a great president. Ten years from now it may indeed be viewed differently especially when viewed with historic struggles against the Russians,Chinese and now Iran. Someday we may say Wow!! I’m glad we control the oil and not them.I’m glad that we got the terrorist’s on the run and are firmly placed in the middle east. That we are there as a check against Iranian hegemony in the area.
Which gets me to these Obamazoids posting on NQ today that keep harping on Hillary’s vote for the authorization. Any sane person knows that shortly after 911 it was deemed unpatriotic as a congress person to openly defy the president. Dean and Obama didn’t have to make that hard choice.
So now that the surge is working and a democratic Iraq seems to be attainable isn’t time to just tell the defeatist obamabots that we are winning and the the projection of American power and the protection of the western civilizations vital interests are worth the effort in Iraq and that Hillary’s original vote was indeed the correct vote.
nobamanetwork, this being a blog, it has no ‘memberships’. I receive up to 2000 hits on some days and people just comment at will. Pro Obama comments are not posted. This is a respite for sick and tired people who do NOT support Barack Obama and are fed up with being harrassed and insulted, so I keep my blog clear of that behavior. Currently, if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you will see that the blog is approaching a quarter of a million hits.
Your site appears to be a repeat in some ways to justsaynodeal.com, although I do appreciate the alphabetized listings. I am constantly asked to add logos and if I were to add them all, my side bar would be an advertisement for other sites and there would be no room for other pertinent information I would like placed there. I post the JSND logo because I know they are actually consolidated in some ways, such as with PUMA, PUMPAC etc–and that they are actually doing press appearances under that banner. I have the feeling that there are just too many ‘umbrella’ sites and that kind of waters down the concept of “collective” efforts. Sometimes a point in every direction is no better than no point at all! So I just toot along as who I am and do what I do best, which is write about issues that attract me and my readership and try to stay under the radar noise.
Nice looking site, I will give you that. Good luck with it.
Check this out Uppity:
Obama apologized to UCC:
NEWARK, Delaware – The Rev. Dr. John Thomas, the general minister and president of the 1.2 million-member United Church of Christ (UCC) denomination, told 250 delegates to the annual meeting of the UCC’s Central Atlantic Conference at a forum on the University of Delaware campus here Saturday that Sen. Barack Obama recently commented to him, “I’m sorry I’ve been such a problem for you.” Obama was referring to need to disassociate from remarks by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright from earlier sermons posted on the Internet, and comments many allege were taken out of context at Wright’s National Press Club speech in April. His comment also referred to his subsequent resignation from the Trinity Church of Chicago, following remarks by a guest preacher there that were seen as unduly derisive of Hillary Clinton. Obama had been a member of the Trinity Church, a popular mega-church in the UCC denomination, for over 20 years.
Reverend Wright (Pfleger, Meeks, et al.) goes and makes as ass out of himself and Obama and Obama then apologizes to the president of UCC!!!

Obama also channels Jimmy Carter. May he channel his loss and McGovern’s loss so we don’t have to get him as POTUS.
Write in Hillary!
