Update: Ten pages of it. Not including the email going around. The person who took that from my blog without credits had really better PRAY I never find him/her.

However, I have met some of the coolest people chasing this piece down! And some jerks too. What happened was somebody deliberately took my piece and passed it around as his own initially. Others took it from other places where my link WAS posted but they didn’t care.  And then it hit the EMAIL circuit. Of course, some very bad writers changed it to suit themselves. May they never quit their day jobs. And the rest of  Columbo story is history! Still working on it though. Tons of them out there. With some luck, I’ll nail the original jerk. That would be the moron with his name on it as the author.

Apparently people do not comprende that copyright laws apply to original writing on the net. In addition to these, and these are only the ones I’ve found so far, there is also an email circulating my original post–without my credit of course.

    You do not surely think that companies that copy original designers within a day of their designs becoming public are doing so in order to flatter the original designer? They are doing it to enhance their own reputation and make money, no more, no less.     People who take the thoughts and words of others are doing the same. They can’t come up with original thoughts themselves so rip of more creative types in an attempt to enhance their own reputation, and perhaps enhance their ability to get advertising revenue based on their readership.
    This is not flattery. This is a sign of the times, when original thought is stolen and passed off as original, in the hopes that no one will notice. This is an attempt by certain people to enhance their reputation to a degree to which they have no right.
    In print media, mostly the book business, if someone had done this to a Margaret Attwood, or a Doris Lessing, or a C.S. Lewis, they would be at the hind end of a lawsuit.
    There are many good things about the internet, but this is not one of them, and frankly the NY Times and other mainstream media outlets have allowed this tendency to grow….and I’m not even going into the current political discourse.
    If you have no original thoughts of your own, do not, I repeat, do not steal someone’s else’s original thoughts. It only dilutes your message, and you minimalize your impact when the truth catches up. Ask whatsisname Blair. or Clifford Irving, or so many others who committed the same kind of “FRAUD”.
    And Uppity, that’s exactly what it is – FRAUD.
    As one of your regular readers, I find this contemptible. If they are capable of stealing anothers’ words without proper attribution, they are capable of anything. One’s words, one’s thoughts are the cornerstone of one’s personhood. It is no different than breaking into someone’s house and stealing everything of value, and I speak as someone who once made their living from words.
    Enough said, although, if I didn’t delurk during the Columbo article, I loved it.
    Worthless heathens, all of them, without any kind of moral compass. You do not steal someone’s thoughts, ever. You can use them, with attribution, but never steal them!
