IBD “Audacity Of Socialism” Series, Part 3: Obama Wants You

Not long ago I wrote a piece recommending the IBD Series on Comrade Obama entitled “Obama’s Stealth Socialism”–which everyone should read. This was part of a series of articles aptly and frighteningly entitled Audacity Of Socialism.  I seriously recommend that you read the entire series and pass it along to everyone you care about.

Part 3 of this series is entitled “Obama Wants You”. As you can see, IBD has harnessed our feelings on Barack Comrade Obama’s true agenda.

You can hear the audio to the IBD editorial below here.

Obama Wants You

By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Thursday, July 31, 2008 4:20 PM PT

Election ‘08: Barack Obama calls it “Universal Voluntary Public Service.” We call it a plan for national involuntary servitude. Kennedy asked us what we could do for our country. Obama has ways to make us volunteer.

Sen. Obama’s call to public service is quite different from JFK’s. JFK knew America was already a nation of givers and volunteers, perhaps the most charitable and altruistic nation on Earth. Entities such as the Peace Corps would give Americans an outlet for their kindness and generosity, an opportunity to share what the freest nation on Earth had given them. Obama will force you to share.

Obama’s Orwellian use of the words “universal” and “voluntary” together is an indicator of an antithesis to capitalist society deeply rooted in his socialist associations, education and training. Indeed, in 1996, when he ran for an Illinois state Senate seat, one of his first endorsements was from the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America.

On the surface, his plan looks just like typical bureaucratic program growth. He wants to expand Americorps to 250,000 slots and double the size of the Peace Corps. He’ll create a Clean Energy Corps to plant trees and otherwise save the Earth. It’s how Obama plans to fill those slots that’s worrisome.

Announcing his plan July 2 at the University of Colorado, he said: “We will ask Americans to serve. We will create new opportunities to serve. And we will direct that service to our most pressing national challenges.” He will make us an offer we can’t refuse.

Obama says that as president he will “set a goal for all American middle and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year, and for all college students to perform 100 hours of service a year.” What he doesn’t say is that he’ll make such voluntarism compulsory by attaching strings to federal education dollars. The schools will make the kids volunteer. It’s called plausible deniability.

In a commencement speech at Wesleyan University, Obama advised graduates not to pursue the American dream of success, but to serve others.

“You can take your diploma, walk off this stage and chase only after the big house and the nice suits and all the other things that our money culture says you should,” he told the graduates. “But I hope you don’t.”

Don’t be another Bill Gates and amass a fortune making people more productive and successful in their daily lives and giving your countrymen a standard of living the world will envy. Exchange your cap and gown for sackcloth and ashes. Leave your possessions behind and come and follow Obama.

“Fulfilling your immediate wants and needs betrays a poverty of ambition,” he opined. Shame on us for being selfish and buying that SUV built by an autoworker trying to fulfill his family’s immediate wants and needs.

“Our collective service can shape the destiny of this generation,” Obama said. “Individual salvation depends on collective salvation.”

We already have a Salvation Army that is truly a volunteer organization. Collective service and salvation is not a classic definition of voluntarism. What Obama has in mind is to turn America into a socialist version of the old Soviet collectives.

And if your idea of service is to join the military and keep others alive and free, forget about it. And never mind about ROTC on campus.

Obama has no place for those who are willing to abandon fame and fortune to lay down their lives for their friends and ours. “At a time of war,” Obama says, “we need you to work for peace.”

“We left corporate America, which is a lot of what we’re asking young people to do,” Obama’s wife, Michelle, told a group of women in Zanesville, Ohio, during the primaries. “Don’t go into corporate America. . . . Become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers we need, and we’re encouraging people to do just that.”

Don’t be the engineers who will figure out better ways to extract shale oil from the porous rock that holds it. Figure out how to extract more money from taxpayers’ wallets.

But the Obamas are doing more than “encouraging” or “asking.” In a speech in California, Michelle, who has made a small fortune in the “helping industry,” said: “Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zone. . . . Barack Obama will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual — uninvolved, uninformed.”

But America is not a nation of selfish, self-serving people. Social demographer Arthur Brooks once calculated that Americans volunteered 32% more than Obama’s beloved Germans. We also donate seven times more money to charities and causes than the Germans who gathered in Berlin.

In talking about his national service, Obama, the man who seems to be running for “community organizer in chief,” also made this startling statement:

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

This is an idea worthy of Hugo Chavez.

Northwestern University law professor James Lindgren has estimated that this civilian national security force alone would cost somewhere between $100 billion and $500 billion, or between 10% and 50% of all federal tax receipts. And that doesn’t include the cost of the brown shirts.

Adults are not exempt from all this, even adults who’ve already served in the U.S. military. “People of all ages, stations and skills will be asked to serve,” Obama says. Will they be asked, or drafted?

“The future of our nation depends on the soldier at Fort Carson,” he concedes. “But it (also) depends on the teacher in East L.A., the nurse in Appalachia, the after-school worker in New Orleans . . .” So drop down and give Sgt. Obama 50 hours.

Require. Demand. Never allow. Obama’s version of “voluntary” service is more appropriate for Havana than middle America. He wants to turn America’s students, and even adults, into clones of Elian Gonzalez, compelled to serve the state in ways Obama “will direct.”

Correction: In the first installment of this series on Tuesday, the Luo ethnic group in Kenya was identified as “communist.” The father of the Luo leader cited, Oginga Odinga, did espouse the post-colonial African version of communism in the 1970s and ’80s, and his son, Raila Odinga, calls himself a social democrat. But communism as an ideology did not characterize the entire tribe.

  1. I sent this to some Obama supporters awhile back – they only made fun of me. Amazing.

  2. Well that’s because it overloads their heads with information that makes it no longer fun to worship The One and his Hopey Changey Rally mantra.

  3. Every person like him in history entranced people who never believed until they Saw.

  4. I was just out there re-posting anti-Obama links around. I was in some Powell discussions. You have to wonder, how much does Powell’s endorsement hurt Obama? I mean, there are an awful lot of comments calling Powell a racists and insisting he is only endorsing Obama because he is black. I’m thinking with some, the endorsment hurts McCain, but with others it may help McCain. THe question is, which is greater?

I have an absentee ballot. I filled it out last night (took hours to research all of the local and state issues). McCain got my vote and then anyone running against an incumbent, got the vote regardless of party. (Here that means mostly republicans get it) :-)

  5. P.S. – I never would have imagined I’d be voting Republican. What a choice: Republicans or the Socialist Party

  6. This is one of the most disturbing posts I have read about Obama in some time. This man has all the makings of a true tyrant. He stands for everything the founders of this country were against. It’s shocking in the extreme that this fellow, who’s statist policies are straight out of the Stalinist playbook, has been allowed to go this far. I can only blame us for being so foolishly duped into not calling this man out long, long ago.

One thing I zeroed in on in his remarks was the statement: “Individual salvation depends on collective salvation.” Having familiarized myself a bit with the racist and marxist Black Liberation Theology as espoused by Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Wright’s avowed source James Hal Cone, I can tell you that this idea is straight out of Black Liberation Theology. I have seen other phrases like this from Obama as well, which suggests that not only was Obama fully aware of Rev. Wright’s teachings, but he absorbed them into his thinking.

This man is basically a statist Marxist. There’s really no way around it. And that dealy combination of pro-state policies and Marxism is exactly what made Stalinism toxic to American-style democracy, whose very purpose is to eliminate tyrannical government.

I think that as thinking people, we now need to reconsider whether old, once-vilified institutions like the anti-communist House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) actually had a point. In any case, we can see very clearly the makings in Obama of a leader very dangerous for democracy itself.

  7. I just read that Palin brought Wright up last night! Google it! She did it!

  8. I saw a “poll” today that stated nearly half those questioned don’t mind if we have wealth redistribution, don’t care if we have socialist policies.
    I’m ill.

  9. That’s because they are clueless as to what it means. Blame it on our education system.

  10. Yeah well guess which half all the people on second and third generation welfare are in? Guess which half all the people who got subprime loans with no income are in? This is just a bonanza thought for them. As we have grown the entitlement programs, we have grown the number of people who have learned to work the system hate us for helping them besides. I am beginning to think the libertarians are right. Let everybody screw up their own lives and take their own responsibility for it.

  11. Isn’t that the truth Uppity. My friend and I were discussing the Libertarians this morning and saying the same exact thing. What I really don’t understand is Ron Paul (should have run Independent) had Libertarian policies. How is that almost all his supporters are voting for Obama??? How is that possible. They are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
    This is the twilight zone.

  12. Where is the link that Palin went over Wright? I googled and either they scrubbed references or it’s not there….

  13. catsrclean: Isn’t it bizarro to be voting Republican???
If you would have told me this 2 years ago I’d have laughed myself silly. I’m voting down ticket Republican because I am so afraid Barky is getting in. There has to be some control on this guy. A veto proof House and Senate is going to be horrific. And no one will care. The media will never cover what is really going on, because they are going to love it.
Did you all see the post about Tom Brokaw having a financial interest in ACORN?

  14. I listened to a radio show about polls. They tend to make people believe that “more educated people” vote for Obama and “less educated people” are for McCain.

Anyone who subscribes to that notion should read this:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/20/opinion/20kristol.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

  15. Obama said at a rally 2 weeks ago he is going to insist on women registering with Selective Service. That’s about getting his national street cleaning team in line. I walked to work this morning so sad. I thought how we will probably have national exercise like they do in China – have to come out in our brown outfits and do bends and stretches together before we collectively clean our rice bowels. By the time I got to work with all the Obama supporters I was so depressed. They are so giddy Obama’s Colon endoresed him.

  16. @Typewriterstreaming. In California the same voters Obama supporters, voted enmass for Arnold Swartzenegger. (The Gropenator).

  17. The media has to love Obama – look at all of the money they are getting from him for all of the ads he is running. He’s buying the election.

A part of me thinks the Joe Plumber’s of the nation may save the day:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/19/AR2008101902099.html?hpid=topnews

Reminds me of a conversation I heard yesterday. My neighbor
’s friend asked her if she was going to go vote (early just starts here today). My neighbor said she doesn’t have to because Obama is landsliding!

I hope alot of his other supporters feel the same way!

  19. Last thing before I go:

    Polls are tightening :-)

  20. Uppity, do you think McCain has any chance of winning this election? He’s just not going after Obama hard enough, and he’s basically sleepwalking through this whole campaign.

  21. LOL cats. I still maintain all McCain has to do is throw beer-concerts starting on election eve and run them through election day in major college towns. This is where you will find the Obama Girl and all those like her.

    jft, yes I do.

  22. UW I know you think the whole API story is UW kryptonite and complete and utter BS. I do too but just wish it was true. But what do you think about this?

The release has taken long due to the fact that API wanted to clear all legal hurdles and be safe from getting sued by any one. API and a US Law firm – LAW OFFICES OF PHILIP J. BERG has just entered into an agreement giving the law firm the right to represent API in all matters that may arise due to the Michelle Obama interview and the release of the tapes in the US.

  23. I hope you’re right Uppity.
I live below the poverty level (like FF I’m an artist), and I am horrified at the “spread the wealth” crap. Everybody needs to have achieveable dreams. Feeding your soul is equally as important as having food in your stomach.

If the Obamas and all their phony baloney rich pals are so concerneed with the havenots, let them turn loose of their own money instead of spendind it on caviar, lobster and ostentatious “bling”. Some of those moronic mouth grills would feed a family for a year!

  24. Sharon, feeding your soul is not in the Marxist playbook.

  25. PS Sen McCain brought up the $150M on Fox News Sunday…said they weren’t documenting the little contributions, although they were not required to do so. I would say this whole amt is coming from other than the broke little people…but I am just paranoid, as we know.

  26. i am not going down without a fight,i have been bucking up everyone i know who opposes barky but as further insurance i am going down and buying some double ought buckshot as i will protect my family and my house to the end,the hell with them.

  27. catsrclean, on October 20th, 2008 at 10:02 am Said

Wow, thanks for linking that article! That one warmed my heart. Also, thanks for posting about the “I don’t have to vote” obummer landslide. I think this could be the downside for the press and their relentless push to get their precious elected.

UW, you’ve been on fire with the postings. Spent quite some time reading last night. Did you see how Obama said Powell would have a role in his administration? WOW, what a shocker. lol

  28. I just finished reading the comments I missed yesterday on you “Which is more disgusting…” post, and I think you will appreciate two things I have to say about our present day ed. system, since you were a teacher.

My nephew , who lives in Atlanta, has a 13 year old daughter who has the mental capacity of a nine year old. She has had some special classes and also been home schooled during an illness. This fall she entered junior high, and has been mainstreamed, as they call it. The Atlanta school system no longer has classes for special needs children. My nephew was told that all children are mainstreamed so they will not feel ostracized by society. As a result, my nephew’s daughter hates school, she can’t do the work because it’s simple too difficult for her, and she comes home from school everyday crying because the other kids call her dummy and retard. PC totally gone haywire!

Also, one of my mother’s nurses told me that when her 12 year old daughter was asked by a neighbor what she wanted to be when she grows up, the kid said “a celebrity”. The nurse told me she was stunned because she certainly hadn’t raised her that way. She calls our culture the slut-inization of teens.

  29. Star, that piece says nobody knows what the guy looks like. Are these reporters lazy or just dumb? I found a photo of him in minutes.

  30. Sharon, what they are doing to your nephew’s daughter is OUTRAGEOUS.

As for wanting to be a “celebrity” I did some research and never got a chance to write the piece for this blog. 80 percent of today’s college students score high on the Narcissism scale. Think about that.

They have an exaggerated sense of who they are.

  31. Dandy for API, DE, but I am not touching their stuff unless and until I HEAR AN AUDIO. Till then, I take it all with a grain. Sorry but it just doesn’t pass the sniff test. Maybe later it will.

  32. I just went to my neighbor’s to see her new kitchen. She and her husband (formerly HRC supporters) were BOTH wearing their Obama t-shirts. I said NOTHING and didn’t mention politics at all. We spoke of several things, and as we were walking down her drive, she said “Well, it looks like HE is going to win”. I sighed. I simply said “You know my political views about him.” This some how opened the door to her Republican bashing. (the REPUBLICANS $700 B bailout!) I spoke up about Obamavision (see above) I was impassioned. When she could no longer sustain her arguments, she said “this conversation is over” and turned, walked back up her driveway and told me I was “Yelling at her” in her driveway. I was not. Aftrerwards, she slammed her front door.

Then at the fence, I told her I was not yelling, nor was I the one to bring up politics. She said “nevermind, this too shall pass, I thought I was speaking with someone reasonable – I guess I was wrong again.”

Another Obama Hopium addict is lost to reality.

and it really hurt my feelings. I have seen her as a friend.

    Thanks Barack.

  33. i was at a party friday night where someone said they put an obama sign in their yard to get the neighbors of his back but will not vote for him. i asked why would not put a mccain sign up if you support him and he said he was worried about his cars getting vandalized. this is where we are. people are afraid of retribution for free thought and speech. i am very distressed about a post obama amerika. i think it will be even MORE uncivilized. i think bullying and thought policing will increase.

  34. FF, barky has done more to divide us than W.Bush ever could.

  35. and it really hurt my feelings. I have seen her as a friend.

I can relate, FF. This has lost me several friends. But I think this guy is a wrong number and am not changing my mind…It is best to not discuss, as you tried, and as I tried with my sister Sun, but they call you out. Over on Women on the Web, I listed 15 reasons I would not vote for him and a woman said, “You forgot one–you are a racist.” What do you say to that? I just click away on those… As for your t-shirted friends–they are wearing some butt-ugh clothes, look at it that way.

  36. Star go back and update your list and add that your a racist.
Screw them all. The OMG (obamamediagroup) has brain-washed the masses into believing that the only reason not to vote for barky is that he’s black. Just say you are not voting for his white half.

  37. Deadenders, you are so right. Barry has set this country back decades re: race and sexism. He has accelerated the decline of civility in our society to warp speeds. Go over to Chicagoans Against Obama to see a lovely vid of Obots outside of a McCain rally.

Despite everything, I still believe McCain will do much better than the polls indicate. I think his campaign knows it too.

  38. Just got back from a ride in the car. Started out listening to the left (stephanie Miller) – the just laugh at, and trivialize, everything. Socialism is funny – ha ha ha.

On my way back I tuned into Rush – wow!!!! He is all over this: Biden pretty much warned everyone why we should not vote for Obama. Why? Because he is inexperienced and will be seriously tested. Here is what happened:
    ___________________

“Later, at the dinner that closed his Puget Sound visit, Biden warned Democratic donors that they will have to support a new administration through “tough, tough decisions” and initially unpopular policies.

“It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama the way it tested John F. Kennedy,” he said.

Unmentioned was the fact that JFK was bruised by his initial testing: the failed Bay of Pigs invasion and a Vienna summit with Soviet leader Nikita Khruschev.

Biden argued, however, that today’s world is, if anything, more dangerous than the days of bipolar U.S.-Soviet confrontation.

He said a nuclear-armed Korean Peninsula could lead to “Japan as a nuclear power,” which would lead to China expanding its nuclear arsenal.

“The Saudis have built 7,000 madrassas (religious schools) along the Pakistan

-Afghanistan border,” he added. “It’s where al-Qaida lives. The Taliban is coming back … This is not a joke. Bin Laden is alive and well.”

While the Bush administration rumbles about the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, Biden argued, “Pakistan is already bristling with nuclear weapons, all of which can hit Israel.”

He added, however, that Obama is “unlike anybody I have served with” during 36 years in the Senate, a person able to coolly assess situations and even ask questions that stump his own council of economic advisers.

Biden did not specify what the “tough, tough” decisions will be, only that “it’s not going to be an easy ride” to end a war, lower a deficit as high as $700 billion, and bring the country out of an economic crisis”

I strongly sugest you go to Rush’s website later and ead the transcripts – Rush puts the perfect spin on it!

  39. Star, I am about 90% sure Obama is on the down low with this Signator guy.

  40. Ok – Politico has it – read some of the comments:

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/Biden_Obama_will_be_tested.html

  41. It’s spreading fast:

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/biden-to-suppor.html

Go Joe!!! Scare the hell out of everyone! Its about time someone did this!!!!

  42. Star, I am about 90% sure Obama is on the down low with this Signator guy.

Aw, we don’t know. It crossed my mind… But lots of things cross this old mind in five minutes even. Now, over on Women on the Web, they say I am just circulating talking pts from emails–where do you get those?

  43. U.W. “I still maintain all McCain has to do is throw beer-concerts starting on election eve and run them through election day in major college towns. This is where you will find the Obama Girl and all those like her.”

i was kind of hoping Nintendo and Sony would release some new toys or games to distract them all through early voting etc. But hey – I’m all for the free beer parties! That will work!

  44. BTW – Hillary is in town stomping for Obama. I thought about going but I hate traffic and crowds and Obama Supporters :-)

It’s free but there are rules!!

    “No signs or banners permitted.”

Come on Hillary – how can you support someone who is against freedom of speech???? Are you afraid some of your supporters who are now voting for McCain may show up with signs saying so????

  45. “Hillary is in town stomping for Obama”

I meant stumping, but I kind of like stomping so will let it go :-)

  46. I don’t quite get how Sen Biden thinks an imminent international crisis makes people like his running mate more. Maybe whoever is starting this crisis will think twice before screwing with the erratic old soldier! Voila–no crisis!

  47. That’s the point – if Obama is in, he will be tested! If McCain is in, he most likely won’t.

So, if Obama gets in, what Joe? Israel gets erased from the map? Al Queda attacks the US? China takes over Taiwan? All of the above and maybe more???

Hey – vote to skip the tests!!! Biden is telling us the truth (And Obama and Axelrod are probably reaming him as we speak)

  48. No I think the point is, Hamas just endorsed Joe too. The Testing will come when they turn their backs on Israel and let them be destroyed.

  49. U.W. – Bingo – I bet that is right! Scary as hell! Rudy G. called into Rush and is on right now. He pointed out that if the McCain campaign brought this up, they’d be accused of all kinds of things, but since Biden brought it up….

He also said Obama will hide Biden for a week or two so he can’t be questioned about this big gaffe!

  50. Here’s what Obama thinks of Biden (when he bothers to show up for work, that is):

    http://www. huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/15/watch-obamas-note-to-aide_n_135028.html

(Uppity reminder: We do not send traffic there)

  51. Nothing on Biden on Tweets. Guess that was not on the approved list.
