“My Contributions To The Obama Campaign Under Fictitious Names”

This is a cross-post from an article I wrote specifically for No Quarter. NQ’s reader Craig performed some very revealing contribution activity at Barack Obama’s website, proving once again that the Obama camp uses a system which allows Obama friends from anywhere, within or outside of the USA,  to donate unlimited funds to his campaign.

Once again, I did not perform this research. I merely composed the post from Craig’s explanations. All credit belongs to NQ member named Craig.

A Note From Uppity Woman: The following diary entry was composed by No Quarter reader CRAIG. I am posting this worthy information under my name as a courtesy to him:

I’ve read recent reports of the Obama campaign receiving donations from dubious names and foreign locales and it got me wondering; how is this possible? 

I run a small internet business and when I process credit cards, I’m required to make sure the name on the card exactly matches the name of the customer making the purchase. Also, the purchaser’s address must match that of the cardholder. If these don’t match, then the payment isn’t approved. Period.  So how is it possible that the Obama campaign could receive donations from fictional people and places?

I decided to do a little experiment. I went to the Obama campaign website and entered the following:
 
Name: John Galt
Address: 1957 Ayn Rand Lane
City: Galts Gulch
State: CO
Zip: 99999 

I then checked the $15 donation box and entered my actual credit card number and expiration date. The website did not ask for the 3-digit verification code on the back of the card. Instead, I was sent to the next page which displayed:

“Your donation has been processed. Thank you for your generous gift.”

This simply should not, and could not, happen in any business or any campaign that is honestly trying to confirm the legitimacy of its donors. Furthermore, I don’t see how this could possibly happen without some kind of help from a credit card company. Card companies as a rule simply do not alow any business to process credit card transactions where the name on the card doesn’t match the purchaser’s name.

In short, under the current Obama contribution system setup, any eager friend from any country can contribute unlimited  amounts of money by simply making up fake names and addresses.

And Obama’s system is set up to facilitate this fraud. This is truly scandalous.

It took a few days to confirm, but as of this morning, four charges have posted to my Credit Card account under four separate names. I used following names:

John Galt

Saddam Hussein

Osama Bin Laden

Bill Ayers

Below is the screen shot of my credit card account activity that corresponds to these four donations:

I made another $10 donation this morning under the name name Tony Rezko, using the same charge card. This donation also was accepted with no problems.  Here are screen shots of the donation form and the ”Thank You” for my donation:

 

As I already mentioned, I’m in the web development business — and it’s clear to me that Obama has a sophisticated system that could easily  flag and reject these donations if they wished to do so. The fact that only one of my donations showed up on my Credit Card statement within the first 24-hrs initially gave me pause that they were screening for fraud (even though I gave a completely fake address that didn’t match my card). However, when the other three donations showed up three days later, it only confirmed my worst suspicions.

A major part of what I do for a living is Web-Analytics, where I analyze and digest website traffic statistics on individual websites and sort through the most miniscule of detail; This includes: new visitors, browser type, sales transactions, email addresses etc. This is WebStuff 101. And even the most basic Web-Analytics and database tools would allow Obama to reject these phony donations before they occur, as the McCain site does.

It should also be noted that the Obama campaign claim that John McCain’s site has the same problem is simply not true. I was immediately rejected by the McCain website when I attempted to donate there using the method mentioned here.

Furthermore, it’s laughable that the Obama camp claim it’s too complicated to make their under-$200 donor information available. Again, even the most basic Web-Analytics and database tools would allow the Obama camp to make this info available the way McCain does. This openness, on McCain’s part, enabled the AP to finally find something worthy of reporting on the issue

Obviously, the reports from the Obama campaign that this problem has been “fixed” are not only erroneous, but one just has to wonder how much money Barack Obama has collected  and buried under the category of  “Unreportable small donations” using this system.

This is frighteningly illegal stuff, folks. And very telling.

Now, it will be Ground Hog day again. Obama will say this is nothing but a distraction, keeping him from discussing the economy–which he never seems to get past the high level talking points on. Then his surrogates will go on CNN and MSNBC and change the subject to “We are cutting taxes for 95% of Americans and nobody wants to hear this”.

In the meantime, God knows where the preponderance of Obama’s money REALLY came from.
