Glorioski! There’s a problem with the Clinton SOS appointment

snobbybastardThank you Lemoncake, for the tip.

What. An. Arrogant. Ass. Barack Obama is. He imagines he can control a former President of the United States. One, I might add, he is trying desperately to copy, since he has no capabilities of his own–and it seems that the only friends he has couldn’t even get a clearance to work in the White House. And appearing to be a Control Freak is the last detail that nails it: The man IS a Narcissist. Lucky us.

We already know that Barack Obama doesn’t do a thing unless it benefits Barack Obama’s Narcissistic ego, and if you are with me and my feeling that there is something stinky about Obama’s consideration of appointing Hillary as SOS, and that I don’t trust Barack Obama as far as I can throw him, you will be happy to know that Jake Tapper has this to say:

A Wrinkle in the Obama-Clinton Negotiations

November 18, 2008 9:03 PM

Behind the scenes of the Obama Transition Team’s vetting of the finances of former President Bill Clinton in order for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, to be named Secretary of State, a complication has emerged.

Sources say the complication is not what Bill Clinton is willing to disclose in terms of the people who have donated to his presidential library or his charitable organizations; those names are being provided to the Obama Transition Team, led by John Podesta, who was also Bill Clinton’s White House chief of staff.

What seems more potentially problematic is not revealing what’s happened in the past — but what the Obama Team wants to do about the future.

The view from Camp Clinton is that the Obama Team would too severely restrict what Bill Clinton is able to do to simply make a living. One source says the Obama Team seems to think it can demand that the former president abide by the restrictions put on a general government official, which just isn’t tenable.

There has even been talk of the Obama White House wanting to approve every speech the former President Gives gives, or any new source of income.

And while the former President’s team says he’s willing to disclose that information ahead of time, they aren’t willing to submit each speech opportunity for approval.

George H.W. Bush had no similar restrictions when he son was President, Clinton advocates say. Why would Bill Clinton have to stop doing what former presidents do — traveling the world, giving speeches, raising money for charitable works — when his wife is a mere Cabinet official?

The view is that this is the portfolio of a former President; to eliminate it — especially when Hillary Clinton still has more than $6 million in debt from her campaign — is unreasonable.

There has been some pushback from the Clinton Team on some of the restrictions they feel are way too severe.

None of which is to say the Obama-Clinton folks won’t be able to come to some sort of agreement. Just that it’s a bit complicated as of right now.

The Obama folks would not comment.

Ambinder reported on this tonight as well HERE.

  1. Now why is this NOT surprising? Null’s ego knows no limits. Until BC and HRC tell him thx, but no thx.

  2. Is Podesta providing these names with or without Bill’s approval? And what seems to be the problem, Barky? At least Bill KEPT A LIST of real people and their names–what’s he got? A bunch of anonymous donors that contributed hundreds of millions. You’ve gotta be kidding me. This, however, is welcome news. No way, HRC. Keep away from the sharks. Stay out of the condemned building before it falls in on your head. There’s no place left for her at the DNC. She hardly has a friend left there. Stay in your Senate seat where you’re safe from them.

  3. Narcissist = Control Freak for sure. You never want to get on the bad side of a narcissist, they will not let go of their anger and will try to control you and destroy you forever. Every time I think about that narcissist – elect actually taking power….I get a shiver down my spine.

  4. Please Hillary…tell barky to shove it.

  5. Uppity, I like the new sidebars! I’m looking forward to buying an Uppity Woman T-Shirt.

  6. IMP-you have that right. However, I think the Clintons can handle him and he best not throw down on them. Guys like Barky are cowards, and I don’t think the Clintons are afraid of him. More like the other way around.

  7. Our blessed country is falling apart….. Overtaken by dysfunctional egomaniacs put in office by lazy as* motherf****rs

I hope to hell HRC knows what she’s doing and I’m praying to God that Uncle Bill is gonna have the last laugh…..

  8. OMG, will this guy just get over himself? My God, to try to tell a former president what he can and cannot say during a speech that has absolutely nothing to do with Obama or his administration is outrageous!
I am sick and tired of this greased pig! When will this nightmare ever end?
Who the hell does Obama think he is, if he is trying to tell Bill Clinton what he can and cant say or do, what the hell do you think is awaiting us?
I am so damn mad at those uninformed voters who didn’t bother looking past the color of Obama’s skin or at the quality of his character.
They did this to the rest of us Americans and now we have to take it, we don’t have to like it, nor do we have to practice what Obama preaches. We can cling to our guns and our religion, that may be our only saving grace.
Before this pig even takes office he is burning the only bridges he has left, and I for one welcome it, I will enjoy seeing Obama fall flat on his face, he doesnt know a damn thing about what hes gotten himself into, that is why he is trying so hard to re-create the Clinton years.
Change? What Change? Obama is simply trying to be Bill Clinton, that racist whom he despises. Why?
Why try to be Bill Clinton? Because being Obama wont get the job done and he knows it.
So, Obama will try to surround himself with Clinton cabinet members and Clinton associates, it still wont make him a Clinton.
The only change Obama wants is to Change into Bill Clinton!

  9. Then he can be the SECOND black President.

  10. Offering someone a job and adding impossible conditions is no job offer at all. Could it be that barffo regets listing Hillary as a possiblr appointee, undertands he can’t renege now that, according to Fox, Hillary leaked the news, so is trying to force her into declining? Never his fault, of course, always Hillary’s.

Hillary, if you take any position in bobo’s administration, you are, in a word , nuts!

  11. Indy, I hope you’re right. Obama is a coward, but he has a lot of thugs surrounding him to fight his battles for him. As you say, the Clinton’s may be able to handle him and his gang as they do have brains on their side.

  12. Gee. What a surprise. Narcissist – elect wants to be
and control the man he despises? Lemme get this straight= He offers the SOS job to Hillary, with
“conditions?” Is this a frigging prenup? Outlandish
and a very dumb move by BOzo. Who ever heard of “approving” speeches by a former president? Anyone? Better idea would be to permanently zip the loose lips of Biden.

Randall, very funny! BO can’t even lay claim to be the FIRST black president. That distinction belongs to Bill, who was overwhelmingly supported by blacks. Must grate on him terribly, being the narcissist O is. Aww.

  13. Off-topic but the Washington Timeks published
a very good editorial today about Sarah Palin being everywoman….some of us (even my female hormones) said as much. Read it here:

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/nov/19/why-they-hate-her/

  14. Trying to “control” Bill Clinton’s speeches is far, far over the line. Freedom of speech is afforded to every American former president or not. This is nonsense.

Hillary would make a great SoS. She is NOT her husband. Throughout this entire thing one issue has really bothered me. She is portrayed as a symbiotic creature and not as a human being on her own. With her own actions, history, work and career. She believe or not obots is NOT “Bill” Her name is “Hillary”

Obama is treating this as a way to render her responsible for everything with zero power…and it’s mostly Bill he wants rendered powerless in his OWN LIFE.

He’s a ridiculous and dangerous man. As most narcissists are. This is only the beginning. We’ll soon see him try to control every aspect of American life he disagrees with OR most especially any aspect that threatens HIS total and utter control of any and ALL issues. In other words, he will do as he pleases and not be allowed any questioning on it. AT ALL.

  15. Uh. Awful!!

“…the Obama Team seems to think it can demand that the former president abide by the restrictions put on a general government official,…”

“There has even been talk of the Obama White House wanting to approve every speech the former President Gives gives, or any new source of income.”

Now I wish Hillary had never even considered. A-rod at work again!!

On a side note: Hmmm…I wonder if this has EEOC complaint merit…

Does Bambi require his MALE employees to muzzle their spouses and deny their spouses of their main source of income??

Also – $6 million in debt still…oh, Hillary ! *sigh*

  16. Hey beethovenqueen,

That was a great piece you wrote yesterday!

Methinks Baroque isn’t giving the press much access, and in keeping with their stupidity, instead of resenting it, they are busy holding him up some more and shooting at Hillary. Let’s face it, they haven’t covered him much directly since he got selected. I’m laughing here. The guy is a mental hermit. I knew it long ago. No friends to speak of. Secretive.

I recall that they trashed Geraldine over her husband too. Some things NEVER change. I just think O wants to gag Bill, and imagines he is powerful enough to do it. This will be his undoing.

  17. The $6 mil in debt is interesting, since the Clinton’s loaned the DNC $13 million they haven’t been paid back yet. The news just said if she takes the SoS job she can kiss getting that money back goodbye.

  18. This just keeps getting uglier and uglier.
I’m grabbin’ more coffee and a morning song just to shake off the DC ugliness….feel free to join me…

  19. Who’d a thunk? Gee, let me see… That would be basically everybody!

    Hal,

Great article (except for the line about feminists who don’t have time for a man or family).

  20. DE,

When did the Clintons loan the DNC $13 M? I missed that one!

Of course the good news is that the $6 M figure means she’s paid back everyone except herself. Given the way things have gone since the “nomination”, I think I can live with that. According to her e-mails asking me for more money to pay back the little guys she owed, so can she.

  21. Diff subj…I read this AM that they float these names and even ask Sens if the person could get confirmed before putting them out as appointments. That’s really gutsy. As for Holder–a friend and I remember him from DC–she said didn’t get have some role as the prosecutor in a bombing. I said, not Letelier! She said yes! I studied that Letelier assassination for a novel I was writing. Spent yrs on it. There is no novel, but a big file. Holder was involved in trying to get Pinochet extradited, I think. So that will only help him, I think. But weird how stuff comes back around. Small world. I think the Mark Rich thing will tarnish him more–and maybe (ooo-paranoid) is one reason he is being floated–to throw the Rich thing at Bill.

  22. If you ever want to know more about the Letelier story, get Assassination on Embassy Row by John Dinges. I even tried to option that book at one pt. Reads like a novel!

  23. imustprotest, on November 19th, 2008 at 1:52 am

Well, I hope I am right too. I just think the Clinton’s have more friends in the right places than BO does. He’s the new guy, and it doesn’t appear he has many friends at all-at least those fit for government positions. My confidence scale is still recovering from the election where I learned that common sense is now a minority demographic in the country.

  24. I bet Randi Rhodes is going crazy today since she was the one on Air America Radio who began the chant of the Clintons being evil. I wonder how she is trying to justify these moves by Obama of trying to control what Bill makes or says. Tee Hee Hee

Not even in office yet, and the O is starting to unravel. It will be interesting to see how the neo-progressives justify all this.

  25. Hal, interesting article. But as a Liberal I don’t agree with the points made except as they are an analysis from a more conservative view point. I do wholeheartedly agree that the vast “Liberal” establishment ran a nasty and personal attack against Palin and her family (even her kids) because of her accomplishments and simply being McCain’s choice as VP, which was a brilliant political move. I also agree with the overall idea that there is something wrong with Liberals who now seem to believe that you can’t be one unless you agree with every point they expound as well as be anti-religious. While I wouldn’t call myself a religious person, I grew up as one and have met many Liberals who are as well, especially Catholics. Some Catholics and other religious members are pro-choice.

I wish the media would start calling these so-called liberals what they really are neo-progressives, because they have bastardized the true meaning of liberalism just as the neo-conservatives did republican conservativism.

Palin appeals to me personally, because she reminds me a lot of myself. She came from humble roots and worked hard to obtain her goals and despite her lack of traditional intellectualism pursued politics because of her passion. I could have tried the beauty pagent route, but was personally deeply against that stuff, even though my mother and sisters worked on me all the time to pursue it. I commend Palin for working her way up from the bottom fighting from the trenches; and that is what real grassroots is, not the corporate led one that ran Obama’s campaign.

Also, like GG, I don’t agree with the anti-feminist remark. I grew up in a very religiously strict household with a mother who deeply resented her kids and told us often. This formulated my own desires to wait until I had pursued a career and lived a life until I was ready to have my own.

What I like most about Palin is she is true to beliefs and yet is not one of those women who believes that a man must be their daddy.

A final remark: Palin had remarked that she didn’t join the Assembly of God church in Wasilla because it was too radical for her. We were AOG members, and that was the least radical of churches we had attended, so I knew Palin was no rabid Christian conservative like the media was trying to portray her as.

  26. I don’t seem to remember this technique of leaking a name, letting the person get dragged around for awhile, then deciding….brings to mind, needing a weatherman to see which way the wind blows. I think our gov Janet was hoping for AG–but she is dead to me when she endorsed him instead of Hillary–still where’s the love?

  27. I don’t seem to remember this technique of leaking a name, letting the person get dragged around for awhile, then deciding….

    It’s reserved for Obamanation women

  28. I think O wants to gag the Clintons, but even more, just feel even more powerful over them, and therefore over the people that supported them. Having all of these people to Chicago “to see him” is to show the honor and deference they are having to show him. Part of the legacy he feels he is already building.

He is going to be his own undoing.

“common sense is now a minority demographic in the country”
Indy, so true and so sad!!

  29. Uppity, something stinky is right. But I would add “sinister”. What’s next, investigation and preapproval of anything that Chelsea does or says?

  30. This is interesting and slightly off-topic:

Bill says Chelsea is the best politician in their family and would love for her to go into politics.

    http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=081119152114.lbpajlta&show_article=1

Perhaps Bill and Hillary can see some of their future in her? I have never heard anything about Chelsea in politics.

  32. I think gagirl is right. Obama is just getting off on making demands of the Clintons. Eventually even the worst of the koolaid drinkers will see through him (whether they will admit it or not), and his legacy will be that of all petty (and unqualified) tyrants:

    http://www.englishverse.com/poems/ozymandias

  33. That was a good article about Palin. I agreed with some of what he said about the self-described feminists who attacked Palin’s family. Although I am strongly pro-choice, my definition of feminism is closer to Palin’s than to the version put forward by the most obnoxious of the third wavers.

But what got my goat was that he (like everyone else in the media) felt the need to bash Hillary Clinton. Is that a non-negotiable requirement in order to have something published these days? What he said about her was unnecessary and untrue.

  34. Good news! Hillary says she is having reservations about this job and prefers her independence.

An SOS doesn’t become a POTUS. A Senator or Governor does.

  37. I notice he is taking our governor for Homeland. I don’t even like that word Homeland…dopey. What was wrong with “Domestic”?
