Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term “abeed al-beit,” which literally translates as “house slaves.” But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as “house negroes.”

Update: Quipster found this video of Malcolm X’s “House Negro” speech, which probably is the point of reference al-Zawahri used in his video, calling out Obama as less then Malcolm X.

Mary said it all. al Queda (and Osama bin Laden) are Sunni. Obama (via his Luo ancestry) is Shi’a. That’s why he wants to leave Iran (Shi’a) alone, and go after Afghanistan. When the Shi’a were winning in Iraq, he wanted to withdraw our troops. Now that the surge worked and the Sunnis are no longer facing total defeat, he wants to stay.
Likewise, out of the 97% of Pakistan that is Muslim, 77% Sunni, and only 20% are Shi’a. That’s why Obama wants to invade Pakistan.
al-Zawahri is damning Obama because he is from a rival sect of Islam. Taqiyya (the doctrine which allows Muslims to lie to non-Muslims and conceal their faith for self-protection) is a Shi’a concept, not Sunni.

So far as I can tell, the Shia started out centuries ago as usurpers and never stopped. Do you know if I’m close on that one?
I understand that Sunni Muslims around the world are fighting for their cultural survival and have been very nervous about barfo.
The Shi’a/Sunni split occurred around 632 CE and was basically about the right of succession after the death of the prophet Mohammed. The Shi’a claimed that the Caliphate should only extend through direct descendants of Mohammed, while the Sunni believed that Ali, while a direct descendant of the prophet, was 4th in line.
It’s all very complicated to the non-Muslim, but basically it can be boiled down to a similar debate as to whether Peter was the first Bishop of Rome by Christ’s decree or it was simply a power grab by the Vatican. It’s nothing more than a rift based on a childish temper tantrum/power struggle, except they get quite bloody about it to this day.
Not that the Christians didn’t get bloody, it’s just they seem to have gotten over it eventually. In reality, they probably just lost too much power to keep up the blood bath.

Actually, Jews and most Middle Eastern Muslims are all Semitic. It’s one of the more misused terms of all times. Palestineans, for instance, are Semitic. As are Arabs, Hebrews, and some Ethiopians.
