Obama meets opposition among Democratic Senators on his tax cut plan

Usually you get to have a honeymoon. I mean give the guy at least one day of honeymoon. Barack Obama isn’t even in office yet and he is meeting up with criticism from his own party on his proposed tax cuts.

They were especially critical of a proposed $3,000 tax credit for companies that hire or retrain workers.
“If I’m a business person, it’s unlikely if you give me a several-thousand-dollar credit that I’m going to hire people if I can’t sell the products they’re producing,” said Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., a member of the committee.

“That to me is just misdirected,” Conrad said.

Rut Roh. Conrad called Teh One misdirected.  This can’t be good. I mean, it can’t be good for Conrad.  He’ll get a call.

But the real surprise comes from guess who?

Sen John Kerry, D-Mass., said, “I’d rather spend the money on the infrastructure, on direct investment, on energy conversion, on other kinds of things that much more directly, much more rapidly and much more certainly create a real job.”

kerryobamadeletePoor John still grapples with the concept of simple sentences, doesn’t he?

No cabinet appointment for you John.  Why the long face, dude?? Are you being spiteful? I mean just a few short months ago you were dancing together.  He doesn’t really need you anymore, John. This is pretty clear to everyone else so why not you?  So be a good boy, k? Go get Teresa some coffee and cut it out. It doesn’t look good.

So what really is the point of these guys speaking out like this at this moment? I am not saying that they should be rubber stamping things, but you mean to tell me they couldn’t make a call to Barack Obama and discuss it with him? Surely he must be taking his strong supporter John Kerry’s calls, right?

You just have to laugh because nothing ever changes there in the Senate does it? Just the party in charge changes once every few years, but nothing else. If they aren’t behaving like children, harassing a Junior Senator from Illinois– or making a deal for themselves or a friend, they are getting themselves a little publicity.  They say that the most dangerous place in DC is between a Senator and a camera.

  1. JK just coming to senses, that’s all. Must hurt to have stumped so hard for a spoiled turd noser, and then have the prize yanked hard.

  2. I say bring it, senators. You are paid to balance the executive. I am not comfortable with another fear-driven bum’s rush on this–a la the Patriot Act or the other eight “trill” out there someplace doing something.

  3. Kerry is either a coward or he sells his soul. What other explanation is there for what he did in 2004. I’m glad he got shafted. He deserves it.

  4. So JK walked into a bar and the bartender said, “Why the long face?”

Ba-dump-bump. Be sure and try the veal. I;ll be here all week.

  5. Good one Jimbo! :)

  6. Even some Dems, including our ubiqitous Nobelista, are thinking it’s not enough, his plan, or maybe the wrong mix, or… I see he has it up to “saving” 3 million jobs–not creating…and it used to be fewer. In all fairness (I am so fair, as you know), I don’t think anyone knows. Spaghetti meet wall.
