You vill “volunteer” und Like it!

tomorrowbelongstomeCount Us Out has the concise explanation of the new mandatory meaning of the word “volunteer”. For all the little Comrades who shouted YES WE CAN!,  well guess what? YES YOU WILL!. Here’s what Congress has been up to while they were diverting our attention to AIG:

The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act, was passed yesterday by a 321-105 margin and now goes to the Senate.

Under section 6104 of the bill,
entitled “Duties,” in subsection B6, the legislation states that a
commission will be set up to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair,
and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able
young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be
implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the
Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from
diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Section 120 of the bill also discusses the “Youth Engagement Zone Program” and states that “service learning” will be “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”

“The legislation, slated to cost $6
billion over five years, would create 175,000 “new service
opportunities” under AmeriCorps, bringing the number of participants in
the national volunteer program to 250,000. It would also create
additional “corps” to expand the reach of volunteerism into new
sectors, including a Clean Energy Corps, Education Corps, Healthy
Futures Corps and Veterans Service Corps, and it expands the National
Civilian Community Corps to focus on additional areas like disaster
relief and energy conservation,” reports Fox News.

The Senate is also considering a similar piece of legislation known as the “Serve America Act,” which also includes language about “Youth Engagement Zones”.

Got it, little Comrades?

  1. Yeah..I’ll volunteer. I’ll be the one to go to the White House and kick ass.

  2. Mandatory volunteerism. Two words that don’t go together, but the government doesn’t care about that. They may as well call it the Draft! Which I wouldn’t doubt will be raising it’s head soon.

  3. This is what they do with the left hand while distracting us with the right. They are playing three card monte with the press over who’s at fault with AIG, all the while robbing us blind behind the curtain.

UW reading your post I’m scrolling down and see this

The legislation, slated to cost $6

Boy was I surprised by the next line, I thought it would be trillion.

    And what up with “Corps”?

  4. Astra, the draft would certainly reduce the unemployment numbers, eh?

  5. Uppity, that’s what I’ve been thinking about the draft. That at some point Obama is going to put it back into action to “employ” some of those needing jobs – mostly, the kids who voted him in. My gut feeling the entire time he was running and speaking of his volunteer programs he wanted was that we’d see the return of the draft. I think the above legislation is just the first step.

  6. ASTRA,i believe you are right..hope all those kids that voted for him get to serve….

  7. I can’t believe that we didn’t hear anything about this before it passed the Senate!

  8. They were busy diverting our attention to AIG.

  9. The govt, already way too large, is now marching towards the only place big govt can go. We the people have been handing them all kinds of power for decades now, thus they think we exist for their benefit-not the other way around. Thus mandatory service….err volunteerism.

  10. Ah, God–they are already doing the Obama Jungen…I can’t keep up–and WE are trying to!

  11. I see the word “baby boomers” written all over that bill. It appears to be very important to put the baby boomers to work. I had to laugh about this because I have a friend who was all excited about Obama and now she’s just getting kind of pissed off. She wanted “change” but apparently she was hoping somebody else would pay for it and somebody else would work in the forced labor camps.

  12. Funny line. Thanks, I needed that. I think a lot of people thought change was an attitude change–not have a Texas accent, not act dorky, not start a bunch of wars, not lie so much….but not this!

  13. Isn’t it an “amazing” coincidence that the AIG bonus furor erupts while Congress is passing a “mandatory volunteer” [oxymoron anyone?] bill, the Feds pump in $1 trillion dollars to Treasury to pay off debt and fund programs we don’t have the money for, and Obama is looking for hugs on a 3.55 trillion dollar budget?

Funny how that happens! Distraction and smokescreen. Sort of like bread and circuses [except at least the Romans offered something that you could actually eat--but maybe that's next].

We’re being scammed by the boldest Ponzi scheme makers in the Universe. And they’re not interested in money alone. They want power, too. All of it.

Americans need to wake up, quick!

  14. You are so right, Peggy Sue. I’m over the whole lot of them. It’s amazing, alright. All this change and transparency is more than I can bear.

  15. Why volunteer?

    There are jobs out there:

  16. “…by bringing together people from
diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds…” — read: your youngest daughter gets to meets inner city youth –

P.S. “Forced to volunteer” — something wrong with that phrase?

  17. Brown Shirt Act of 2009

  18. All this dilly dally. Zer0 and clan ought to just call it what it is. A draft. For all the, as Star calls it, Obama Jungen who supported him, serve it up with glee as they goosestep along their community service.

  19. And while all this was going on, he was beginning work on implementing his volunteer civilian defense–aka, 0′s private army loyal to him, not the Constitution– which is really what all this volunteerism is about.

An army of obots and inner-city gang bangers, and all fanatically, hysterically loyal to their Fuhrer.

  20. Any bets on what happens to those who are too old or disabled to “volunteer?” I’ll say that their Social Security and Medicare will be cut off, and then they’ll be cut off– permanently.

  21. With the help of CNN encouraging viewers to volunteer. they have become an arm of the Obama administration. I don’t watch CNN but can’t help but hear some of it because my husband still does . They have been talking up volunteering alot lately.

The diversions they are putting out to the public and passing one amendment after another more quickly than anytime in history there IS NO WAY we can keep up with it all and try to put out the fires.

And that I beleive is the goal. to have people so scattered trying to react to so many differant amendments at one time there is no way to effectually stop anything they are doing.

Create chaos, Alinsky tactics and it’s working beautifully for them , MSM concentrates on creating class war fare to divert attention. Welcome to socialism comrades.

These days I feel if I started to cry I wouldn’t be able to stop to see how my Country is being syistimatacly destroyed by these Neo-Liberals . I won’t refer to them as Democrats because they are not ….they have taken over the party just like the Neo-Cons took over the Republican Party .

Now we need to try and stop this before the Senate votes on it. Please contact all your Senators by email, fax, and Calls with your outrage at this UnAmerican bill.

And thank you Uppity for reporting on this, which I was already aware of but many were not.

I remember how many bloggers called us conspiracy theorist during the elections for even beleiving that Obama and the Neo-Liberals in charge would follow through on this if he was elected.

I’m hoping enough of them are waking up , hereing about this and rethinking their support of Obama and get on board to hold him and Congress accountable .

  22. [...] Shhhhh. Don’t wake them. While they are sleeping, the GIVE Act will be passed Posted on March 26, 2009 by Uppity Woman While everybody was bumping into walls screaming about AIG and Tim Geithner, your House of No Representatives passed the GIVE act, AKA You Vill Volunteer Und Like It Act.
