I will live blog this. Madoff has entered the courtroom. I do know that the Probation people have recommended 50 years, his defense attorneys are asking for 12 years and the prosecution is asking for 150 years.
I myself recommend they shoot him in the head and feed him to a pack of wild dogs, which is probably why I am not a judge.
Bernie is such a thief, it’s a wonder he didn’t run for Congress.

Update: Poor Ruthie Madoff will now be forced to live on a $2.5 million lump sum, which is “all” she will have left. The poor thing even had to sell her $48k mink coat. Oh the inhumanity of it all.
The first thing to note is that the cash doesn’t come completely free and clear. She may still face claims from the Securities & Exchange Commission, the Securities Investor Protection Corporation, and the trustees liquidating her husband’s business and estate. It is also unclear how much Social Security she will have to live on as well.
Hundreds of Madoff victims are hanging around waiting for his sentencing. Most of them would prefer if they would just chain him to a wall in a sound proof room while they attend to him.

I saw one of his bilked investors on the news this week being asked what he thought the penalty should be. Very nice older man, white haired, looked very reasonable.
He pondered for a moment, then in the calmest way imaginable said that while he originally thought he’d like to beat him to death with a baseball bat, he had reconsidered. Now he’d like to do it with his hands – his bare hands.
There was also an interview with an 80 year old guy who said he is wiped out and he and his wife are going to have to sell their home.
There’s also that elderly couple who went back to work.
Do you know the IRS is robbing all of these people too? They paid taxes for decades on money they never had and the IRS refuses to give them their tax money back except for the last three years. SOme of them have been paying taxes on “capital gains” and “dividends” since the 80s.

ME says Billy Mays had arterioslorosis and enlarged heart, plaque build up…as in cholestoral. He had some meds in him inlcuding oxycontin, however, he did not abuse the drugs. the amount in his system appeared consistent with following physician instructions on taking the pills. Number of plls left in bottle compared to prescription date also confirmed this.
NO evidence of hematoma. In other words, he died in his sleep of heart failure.
The 911 call from his wife was really heart breaking.

dying like that at 50, I’ll bet his father died young too. There’s usually a family history. You look at him and he wasn’t morbidly obese so you have to think genetics.
My cousin was pretty much wiped out by Madoff. He sold his business in the late ’90s and invested the money for retirement. His largest was with Madoff. He selected Madoff because of his reputation and the fact that on paper the Madoff investments were conservative and the returns were “believable” ~10-12% year. He was also paying taxes on the fictional income. He had also put money in several other investment funds, one of which was investing the money with Madoff and didn’t make that fact know to the investors.

Most likely you will be required to show proof of vaccination upon leaving or entering the country and entering any other country.

Exactly what I did ask myself, UW, and how Icame o spin my “What if…”story. I simply cannot believe that Madoff ran the Ponzi scheme all by himsefl. No, not to the tune of $50 billion. I’m guessing here that he’s got proof of various people’s complicity stashed with lawyers in different cities, maybe even countries, along with orders that if anything happens to him, the information be made public. A little blackmail would be right up his alley.

Creeper, the vast majority of the people he destroyed were regular people like you and me. Most of them didn’t even know their IRAs or mutual funds were invested in Madoff. We hear about the rich stories, but the majority of these people were not rich and they are destroyed. Thousands of them. Many of them are elderly, some in their 80s, and they are nearing homelessness. Entire charities invested in him and tanked. There was a story of one elderly couple who went back to work just to live. There were people who interited a little money from parents and invested and lost it all. Most of these people were doing it “right”, saving against their own futures. The man is raw evil. You are right, however, that the wall street scam is very similar. The same type of people got ruined. They TOOK our money. As with madoff, some rich people tanked, but most of the people whose money was STOLEN by Goldman and friends are just regular people. It’s ludicrous that anyone gave them a dime much less double dipping the taxpayers who were screwed by them and then telling the screwed to give them more money besides. Overall, crime pays in America now. Not only does crime pay, but the victims get to give the thieves the rest of what they have.
