The news station in AK has updated their website with an audio interview with a reporter who was at the news conference. Why don’t they have a video of it?
opps forgot to put the link:

A little more respect for Sarah than your title shows is in order, Uppity.
I’m at a loss as to the reason for this move unless it’s some kind of health related thing that she chose not to elaborate about. If this is for political purposes it’s insane and her advisors should be fired. Maybe it’s just personal because of all the crap she’s had to deal with or financial for the same reason. It certainly is political suicide as Uppity said, IMHO.
Does anyone know when her term would be up??? Exactly how early is she quitting before her term ends? Dear Lord you don’t think there is some kind of horrible blackmail involved do you??? This is truly bizarre. She will be labeled a fluke in the first place and a quitter, someone who can’t stand the heat, she’ll be painted as weak, flighty, on and on, her political career is over.
I don’t think so….WTF is about right. Political suicide or personal survival, one of the 2.
Somebody do something to end the hatred on MSNBC!!
They just never stop!
I’d love to see any of them withstand the constant abuse they dish out.
NO.
Make that: I’d love to see every one of them withstand the constant abuse they dish out.
This is a sad day. I can’t believe she just quit.
I heard someone on MSNBO say that she’d have to begin running in 2010 for her re-election in 2011. And then — IF she wanted to run for the 2012, she’d have to begin running in Iowa as soon as she took the office.
How the heck can I respect someone who did more harm to professional woman than anyone this year. Where I come from this would be a huge blow to professional women. A great opportunity for men to say women can’t stand the heat, women can’t handle family and big jobs. I don’t think she realizes what this will do to the morale of women who are working so hard to advance themselves in corporate America. Where I come from this would set women back for a long time to come. And the last thing women need is to be set back any more than they already have been in the past two years. I am all set. I did my schtick in life. But I am both saddened and incensed for all the women I know who are knowing exactly what this means for them.
If this is a clever move for Sarah somewhere in her mind, it is MOST DEFINITELY at the expense of professional women who want to advance and not listen to 1960s bullshit about how women can’t handle work and family.
It’s Pat Buchanan who is holding the fort for Palin on MSNBO.
Signing off.
I hope it’s political suicide for Romney, too. It was his people in the McCain camp that were always bad mouthing her. Pitchforks for the Romney camp, those misogynist lowlife’s
This is also just a confirmation that Hillary has the balls. She took this kind of crap for 15 years and she’s still standing. Now that’s a woman I admire.
I doesn’t make sense from a political standpoint at all. I’m sad to say that there must be other circumstances involved in her decision that we are as yet, unaware. Governors don’t just quit….she must be getting out of politics all together, for some reason.
sorry finely, I had to have a chance to express myself too. Having spent the better part of my life in corporate america I know just how BAD this looks for women, regardless of what she says.
Swell I have no doubt that her own party was crucifying her standing right next to the Regressive democrats. But you either stand the heat or you don’t. Politics is not for wimps. This really worries me for women everywhere. I mean it REALLY worries me.
Newt won. Terrific.
I hear ya Uppity. They must have something on her. They sure dug long enough.
You’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t……when Hillary stuck it out they said “she was power hungry”….now with Palin they’ll say, “see, women just can’t take it..too emotional” F#@K!!!!!!
imust~
I’m with you. There has to be more. She’s taken so much #%& from so many, that simply leaving makes no sense.
imustmakesenseofthis….
leslie
yes
imustmakesenseofthis
Did she say why she was leaving? I can’t find any links, other than imust’s.
I don’t know if you all heard greta having to go for the jugler of what’s his name on FOX making cracks about women and handling the job and family. This is just the start, ladies.
socal she’s on fox at a press conference. She’s leaving.
The penquins got her!
“sorry finely, I had to have a chance to express myself too.”
I respect your choice, even if you neither bother to understand nor respect Sarah’s.
the penguins got her…no, more like the penis’ got her, D@#NIT!!!
I’m sooooo PO’d!
I don’t know swell. She might just be telling the truth. She is frazzled, has to fend of offenses and complaints. Her enemies have won. If she even imagines she can run for president, she’s just foolish. I quit the governorship because I couldn’t take it so now make me president? In the real world, she would be finished. Never……..and I mean NEVER give up something unless you have something better to replace it. If you do, there’s going to be plenty of speculation and she’s in for a world of pain that makes what she’s been thru so far look like sandbox playing.
Maybe she figures that as governor she can’t fight back against the continuing personal attacks. She seems to hav a plan. L.A. Times has a good, short piece:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/07/alaskas-sarah-palin-is-stepping-down-as-governor-this-month.html
Palin ‘doing what’s best for Alaska’ in stepping down as governor
Sarah Palin picked a slow news day before a holiday to shake up the political world, saying she will step down as governor of Alaska but leaving open the question of her political future.
“We’ve got to put first things first. I love my job and I love Alaska. I am doing what’s best for Alaska,” Palin said at a televised news conference in her hometown of Wasilla.
Palin said she hoped people were not disappointed by the decision, which she said had been in the works for some time. She said she was taking “my fight for what’s right in a new direction.” She said she could be more effective and better serve Alaska and the country from outside the governor’s office.
At a news conference before the Fourth of July weekend, Palin said she would step aside and be replaced by Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell later this month. She said the transition of power would be smooth and took no questions.
Palin, who is very popular with the GOP’s conservative base, was considered a possibility for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination. Not being governor would free her to concentrate on accumulating resources for a national race. Palin did not say that’s what she intended to do.
Palin said she was willing to transfer power so that the current Alaska administration can continue.
“My choice is to take a stand and effect change and not just hit our head against the wall,” Palin said. She was surrounded by her family and top state officials.
“Millions of dollars go down the drain in this new political environment,” she said.
“Rather, we know we can effect positive change outside government,” she continued and “actually make a difference.”
Palin criticized recent political attacks, including one from former campaign aides of Arizona Sen. John McCain, who was the top of the GOP ticket.
“You are naive if you don’t see a full-court press from the national level picking away a good point guard,” she said, referring to criticism of her campaigning style. The most recent attack was in a magazine article in Vanity Fair magazine.

She’s not leaving….just like Uppity’s not leaving…she’s rethinking her strategy…. and she smells blood in the water…..and she loves the smell of blood….
don’t underestimate her…this is a very dangerous shark…..
I am giddy with glee and excitement…
the whole world is scared shitless of her!
Go Sarah!
finely sarah is one person. Her moves impact millions of women. I just have a hard time feeling sorry for her instead of them.
swell if she got kneecapped by her party, I am more inclined it’s newt not romney. Newt is raw sewage, swell. He is the epitome of everything that is bad about personal ambition.
Has that swine Sanford resigned???? NO! WTF! I just can’t wrap my brain around this!
I think it’s Romney x Newt. God I hate those guys. But I’m with you on the thinking that you don’t give up a Governorship then expect to run for President. Bad move, if that’s what she is thinking.
Oh No imust! Sanford’s a man. Men have to be dragged off the stage.
But what are the reasons for her choice? There is nothing in the original statement, and Uppity is correct – this will be interpreted as an inability to govern due to the XX chromosome factor., and we all know that is how it will be portrayed by the XY and collaborators’ media.
I respect her decision to withdraw if it is for her desire to protect her family from further obscene intrusion, I just wish she had done so after the election, and that she made her reasons crystal clear.
I recently discovered CNN Wire, which tends to be fairly opinion-free. Here’s something useful from them:
July 3rd, 2009
Palin stepping down as Alaska governor
Posted: 03:48 PM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Gov. Sarah Palin announced Friday that she will step down as Alaska’s chief executive by the end of the month. She will not seek election to a second gubernatorial term in 2010.
Palin, a Republican, was elected governor in 2006. She was tapped as Arizona Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential running mate last year.
Palin said she was transferring authority to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who will be sworn in on July 25.
“She thinks she has accomplished goals she has set forward,” a source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said.
“She sees what a positive influence she has had on people’s lives from traveling the country in the last year.”
A Republican source close to Palin’s political team told CNN’s John King that it was a “calculation” she made that “it was time to move on.”
The governor’s “book deal and other issues” were “causing a lot of friction up” in her home state, the source said, adding that he believes that she is “mapping out a path to 2012.”
As the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, Palin has been considered one of the front-runners for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012. Her decision not to seek another term as governor is sure to stoke speculation that Palin is seriously eyeing a run for the White House.
In an interview last month with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Palin said she was unsure about her re-election bid because she needed to focus on her state and her family.
“So, no decision yet on either 2010 or let alone 2012?” Blitzer asked.
“No decision that I’d want to announce today,” Palin responded.
Palin catapulted on the national stage last August when McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, chose her as his running mate.
– CNN’s Peter Hamby, John King, Mark Preston, and Alan Silverleib contributed to this report
OOps, posted before I read Suzanne’s post. In that case, should be an interesting time.
Do you people not listen when someone speaks and only listen to the commentators BS?????
Palin sitting as a Gov of a State cannot speak out as freely as she can outside! She said clearly in her speak about the moundng National Debt and the crap that is decending upon Americans by the present people in Washington!!
Alaska needs Fed money like every other state does and if Palin is critical of Obama and his thugs as a Gov, then Alaska suffers but as a private citizen, Palin can speak freely and cause Washingtom more grief than they could ever think that was coming their way!
Also now as a Private person, people like Letterman say something, she can sue, as Gov, she can’t. So relax and chill and QUIT with the set back theories and wait and look forward to the bombs about to drop from the Alaskan wildcat!
Men have different rules, imust, but take heart, Sanford will go bye-bye, too. Maybe the Republican’s are following Obama’s rule book, why compete when you can destroy
UW ~
I understand your stance. In my very first job I interview I was asked when I planned to have children. Rather than taking exception to this question, I responded that I wasn’t even dating. This was 1968.
In 1991, I was asked by a supervisor who I was traveling with while on vacation – I said it wasn’t anyone’s business. I was then “accused” of being a lesbian. (I was traveling with my children. And felt – as I still do, that what I do in my private hours are my own business.) and please don’t thing that I care about anyone’s sexuality because of what I just wrote.
In 2003, I had a supervisor tell my I ought to drive to work so I could put in more hours and stay later. I said that my commuting time was my own, thank you very much, and if my boss wanted to drive to and from work, well that was up to her. She continued to drive and then complain about her commute.
There is no end to what is demanded, spoken to and about professional women. You leave a job for a better one, and you’re a “quitter”. You stick it out at a bad job, and you’re seen as a “patsy”. (I’ve been seen as both.)
I’ve made plenty of decisions based on my need to be a good enough mother as well as a professional woman. Those decisions didn’t resonate well with some people, but I did what I thought was right. I’m certainly not going to judge her and set her up as someone who just ruined it for professional women
leslie MSNBC gets their reward every rating period. They are in the crapper where they belong. The only reason they are still on the air is because Immelt is using them for GE. After that, he won’t give a rat’s ass what happens to them.
Wow. I’m mindblown by this. From what she says, it sounds like she’s leaving so she can campaign for natl office. Senator in 2010? Why would she have to quit for that? The next prez camp won’t be til 2012, way too far down the road to quit her term. This is fishy. I think she was blackmailed into stepping down. She said she didn’t want to waste Alaskas money, by which I thought she meant she thought it was hypocritical of her to campaign & be gov at same time. Thats stupid. She should see how well it worked for Barky. No, I think there’s something nasty behind this. If we’re to take her words at face value, then she’s insane. Either way, I wish she’d dump the republican party.
Mel, honey, the truth is PERCEPTION is EVERYTHING.
OT, socal did you get my email?
I bet Newt is on a happy drinking binge even as we speak.
Yes, you said not to comment. I emailed you back.
Yeah, Newt’s on a drinking binge….probably with Biden yukkin’ it up in some bar.
re email: stunningly beautiful
UW~
I smile every time I think about the ratings of MSNBC. Esp Olbermann
and Shuster (the p*gs)
This is the first time in a looooong time that I turned them on. They were the only station reporting when I heard on the newsradio (which is always on).
Uppity, do you really think her own party forced her to quit? I hope she dumps them then.
Uppity said: I bet Newt is on a happy drinking binge even as we speak.
With somebody other than his presen wife, doh!
One thing’s for sure, she has certainly unnerved the Regressives more times than they care to admit.
Socal
leslie, I did the same, turned on fox & it was all talking heads, so I switched to msgny & they had her speech on. I switched off as soon as it was over.
I didn’t get your return email socal.
And Uppity hun, truth really is PERCEPTION today is disception tomorrow! Problem is everyone wants answers today, why the F*** is she quiting for, rumours are in full gear, and if you wait and cool your heels and let theinitial shock disappear, read what she said it tells a tail that people missed and the media won’t speak on.
I will bet Sarah Palin in the months to come will be the single person in America to bring Obama and his crooks down! You forget this is a woman with spunk and balls and she was held back last fall and has been since as a Gov.
OOops there it is amongst about 50 spams. Sorry!
Well I hope you are right, Mel.
Mel….
Kill Baby Kill…..
Mel~
I just hope you are right. I hope she does (bring Obama and his crooks down). But I’m in Chicago, and the way politics works here, it’s the party – yours – that puts an end to you.
Mel – I’m sorry, but no private citizen is as powerful politically as a sitting governor in the court of public opinion. Especially a private female citizen the media has dubbed a wing-nut.
We know she has a bit of work to do before she can be considered a serious contender for president, even by her own party, so my wild guess is that she’s starting now. As Mel pointed out, she would be criticized for saying and doing things to offend the current administration and bringing the O-hole’s wrath upon Alaska. She could also be accused of neglecting her duties by even speaking out on issues that don’t directly concern Alaska. (God knows, she’s criticized for continuing to exist.)
She’s got a huge following across the country–even if it is no-count non-Ivy non-elites–and it does make political sense for her to grow that base solidly over time.
My initial horror at the news has turned to an excited anticipation. We’ll just have to wait and see what she’s got planned.
Here’s is a video of at least part of Palin’s announcement…
imustleaveforanotherappointment. Be back later…
k socal you gotz mail.
Think about it Uppity, as a Gov, Palin’s hands are completely tied. Obama’s thugs spread rumours about her ethics and everything else, she is fighting from inside a wet paper bag. As a private citizen, she has the American luxury to sue.
Smart people make smart moves because they have something that gives them the power to do so, dumb people make moves that leave them sitting like lame ducks at a shooting galery.
Palin has till Nov 2010 to serve, yet in only weeks from now the races start for congress in 2010. This woman has more power that she can use as a private person than as a sitting Gov and look at the references she used in her speech, that everything Washington is now doing is distructive to America.
Something is coming and it is something that is BIG, because to say the crap being said about her is saying she is stupid, and she has proven she is not a stupid person otherwise she wouldn’t of resigned with such a short window of time to leave.
Hope she spends a lot of time showing america how much oil and natural gas we have in this country that certain crackpots are refusing to tap because they prefer to break Americans financially for their own profit.
Nope, not a good argument. If she was so concerned about “lame duck status” and she wanted to do what’s best for Alaska….then run for re-election for Governor! Nope, not buyin’ it.
I don’t know. This doesn’t seem like a good idea. John Edwards quit his senate gig to run for prez & it didn’t work out for him. I think she should have stayed where she was; although, obviously I don’t know the facts. Shocking story. Gotta run. Catch you all later.
firlight- thanks for the video, that was helpful. She looks good, upbeat. O.K. what is she up to?
socal, she might get some shots in, good ones too. But I doubt she will ever become a national elected official after what looks like quitting under pressure.
But I don’t think John Edwards quit his seat, just didn’t run for re-election. That’s what she should have done….lame duck or not. More than meets the eye here.
Swell, sorry to say, but you are dead wrong, Palin has a spotlight now, it will be there for a long while, the press is going to want to interview her for months to come and she has the mike to say EVERYTHING she wants, and with America facing the sorts of crap Obama is shoving down our throats, what better platform to say than as a private person that the media wants to hear verses a Gov who has to tread water carefully for political reasons which will be exploited by Obamas thugs.
She says as Gov anything against Obama’s crap and Alaska suffers and thus she suffers down the road, as a private person, Alaska doesn’t suffer and her bombing Obama’s waste and garbage Obama suffers and who wins public opinion?
patience grasshopper..there is more to this then we know now..
Mel – you assume the media will give her time and fair hearing. Remember Curic and Gibson?
ahhhhh….foxy….the voice of reason……..
I don’t see her quitting from pressure. It seems to me she’s:
1. Letting AK have a full-time Gov, with the chance to be effective, since she will not be seeking re-election in 2010.
2. Believes she can have a positive impact elsewhere. Even if she doesn’t run for Pres in 2012 or runs and doesn’t win, she could still have a positive impact.
Watching her in the past has been a bit like watching a “caged animal”…I’m looking forward to what she has to say in the future.
I don’t know….she’s just a private citizen now. Doesn’t she have a book in the works?? Who’s gonna buy her book now??
There’s definately more to this than we know now….but I’m not so sure it’s good news. Well, for the misogynist Obots it is of course.
I’m gonna buy her book.
Me too Swell….just don’t think many others will unless she’s a player.
Imust asked Who’s gonna buy her book now??
Those of us who will be urging her to prep for the presidency will, for sure. Do you think the NYT will ban it from their best-seller list?
But meanwhile: Grrrr… on Google Video are some really fecal videos pertaining to Sarah, including these two most recent ones (don’t watch the second if you’re hypertensive):
Krauthammer: Palin’s not a serious candidate for the presidency
02:56 – Yesterday
Mike Allen calls Palin a “Circus Act”
03:45 – 2 days ago
I do hope she’s planning to roll up her sleeves and kick some flabby white male ass. (Well, the first one’s not too bad. Krauthammer’s not indulging in ad hominem or misogynist assaults, and in fact may have given her her marching orders at the end of the snippet! Fred Barnes supports her.)
I’d like to see Sarah Palin run for governor of California. It would be a really good way to see if she can be president. However, I suppose she would not have enough time to impact California positively before having to run for president?
http://www.dailypuma.com
Exactly Foxylady! Do not forget something from last fall, Palin speaks out against Obama and was constantly reeled in. But look when she spoke out, people began to question, and after being reeled in the questions stopped.
The McCain campaign was Palin’s biggest enemy last fall because they shoved PERCEPTION over rough and tumble politics which in actuallity made McCain the war hero look like a chump by a woman!
Anyone hear the DNC’s statement, they attacked, why, you not think they are scared sh*tless?…….lol
That alone tells a big tail!
Obama’ Palin is taking aim on you and your thugs, and Letterman, you all better be careful, this lady shoots and you chickens haven’t any excuses now, since Obama has proven who really wears the clown suit!
Krauthammer is Kristol’s mouthpiece. You can’t get there without Kristol and the neo-cons. Kristol likes Newt, I think.
I’m willing to take her at her word, and I don’t think she’s gotten where she is today by worrying too much about what the old boys network is going to say about her. All this “she’s a quitter” stuff will go by the wayside if she continues to fight, and I think she will. Fox is showing video of her statement, and after seeing the whole thing, I think this is more a beginning than an end.
We shouldn’t minimize what she and her family are facing in legal costs to fight all these ethics charges being filed against her. Bill Clinton faced much the same when the Republicans were nipping at his penis, but Sarah Palin doesn’t have the deep pockets of Tom Hanks and Barbra Streisand to bail her out.
And the blatherings of these political analysts are just so much bullshit. To make another comparison to Clinton, remember when the fairly new woman on the Today show (I can’t even remember her name — she had just kicked Jane Pauley to the curb and was feeling really full of herself) pronounced Clinton’s political career toast after he gave the too-long speech at the convention in which Dukakis was nominated? She ended up on Inside Edition or one of those shows, and Clinton ended up President. And frankly I respect Palin more for saying fuck you, I’m going to do this my way than I do Hillary for going to work as Obama’s whipping girl in the Secretary of State’s office.
Running for president
Norville, Debra. Hillary is nobody’s whipping girl, didnt she just shove Obama into Putin, lol
I love a good twist in the plot. Hehehheh.
1;34 starts the money quote
“On ANOTHER SCALE” referencing “outside change.”
IMO the slap at lame ducks drawing a pay check while they ran all over the world or the country was a shot across the bow of our Senator from Illinois who DID NOT serve as promised and continued to draw a check long after he won the election
watch the start of the tape again.
Wheels are Up, me thinks
They kinda Milk It and I am not going to put Alaskans through that”
“My Choice Is To TAKE A STAND”
you don’t do that by going home
I wish I could show you how I know that this is a very problematic decision Sarah has made. You do not quit an elected slot in midstream and ever expect it to work out well for you in politics.
Speaking of California, I pretty much think that by the time Arnold finishes this mess he’s in, they will be able to run Dracula against him and Vlad will be the winner.
I think Palin is thumbing her nose at politics as usual in this country, she is saying screw you Beltway Buttholes. I play by my own rules and I represent the American People. She knows that our country will be in the crapper in 2010, there is NO WAY any for any economic recovery once Cap and Trade passes. Add to it the disaster of nationalised healthcare–I think it is a brilliant preemptive move like the Honduran military just made–she is making her OWN rules to save this country, what more could you ask of a corporateleader? What about all of the CEO’s that bent over when Obama dangled some TARP money? Sarah is not a sell-out, wait and see.
Yes, Twas an interesting trip Hillary decided not to make this past week. Hahahaha.
He got punked. ROTFL
Pass the popcorn. lol.
Hahah swell, I know. Pwnd.
uppity, has anyone stopped to think that if in 2010 she was here in the lower 48 she would take enormous flak for working for congressional candidates in swing districts by staying as the govenor as she would be far away from alaska for long periods.this way she can get in the trenches and effectivly help blunt and stop barky and his policys.go sarah
Name me one person that quit mid-stream and came back.
UW – You are probably right on several levels, but with this move, Hillary’s move, and a few other oddities, like Helen Thomas and Chip Reid, me thinks many American’s in power are seeing Obama and the Path He IS Taking for what it is and are baking away…in their respective positions
I have to go cook. At least this gave a reason for those People Over At MSNGY to stay away from their families this weeken and “work”
Their families are probably sending Palin Thanks You notes too
back in a bit
backing, not baking
Damn flippers again
Yeah this whole thing screwed up poor bill and the penguins.
I wonder how P4 is going to see this.
I didn’t read all the post, but do agree with surfergrrl!
The more hateful things MSNBC reports and more they show their “gleefullness” that she is may be done for, the more I am pulling for Sarah.
Don’t count her out yet. I think she’ll be able to do more now that she is stepping down. She needs to re-invent herself, work hard study and learn learn learn! Then I think she can make it in 2012. She will have my vote.
I was a supporter of Hillary, but when she endorsed Obama, knowing he was a “Chicago thug” (in the words of Bill), I lost respect for her and change parties for good.
I pulling for Sarah!
Delurking after over a year of reading, great blog by the way Uppity.. your decision to take a hiatus (what we’d like to think of it as) was a shock and dully mourned.
Often I think we only conceptualize the world around us and the manner in which everything works through the lens of a male-centric structure. While I would never suggest knowing exactly what Governor Palin is thinking, I do believe that viewing her choice to resign through a lens driven by this patriarchal structure is incorrect. She has taken hits from both the Democratic and Republican Party, as well as, what I would consider frivolous, lightweight journalists. Governor Palin throughout this has remained strong, fighting the 15 ethic charges and was victorious when they were dropped; she struck back at the inappropriate Letterman “joke;” along with other numerous attacks leveled at her and has shown herself to be a woman of valor. My suspicion with each of these attacks is the very structure, the scheme of patriarchal control, through insiders and the “old boys” club was threatened, very threatened.
I would suggest that now, she is moving forward with a plan but not with that “old boys” network, rather she is moving forward with something unfamiliar to the political powers-that-be.. a different voice. Time will tell.. for now she is a woman who has a vision and is moving forward toward whatever end goal she has in mind.
I am sure in the weeks … months ahead the goal will be more obvious, for now I trust her to make decisions which are correct for her. Thinking outside the old male structure of how things work may just be what this country needs. Time will tell…
Ok I’ll just watch. Then I either get to say I Told You So or you guys get to dunk me in the water.
I’m pulling for Sarah!
Mel’s perspective is right on!
hi Deborah. Lurking a whole year and posting! You know the rules don’t you? Once you comment you have to keep commenting, else we come get you with the hook.
Don’t have time to read all the comments. Did a quick search to see if anybody mentioned “third party”. Nothing came up. But that is what I am hoping. Sarah Palin and a third political party. Where do I contribute?
Wow, what a crazy coincidence, today just happens to be July 3rd. I didn’t even realize it when she announced her resignation.
That means tomorrow is July 4th.

IMHO, Governor Palin came a long way from hockey mom to Governor of Alaska. Like the gambler, she has learned when to hold up, when to fold up, when to walk away, and when to run [pun intended]. Instead of going through the motions for the next year and a half, she decided to capitalize on her status as a formidable opponent in the national arena. She is not one to just throw in the towel and pick up an apron. She is much too intelligent, talented, and competitive to do that. She has been playing with the big boys for a long time; they do not scare her. It is they who are frightened of her. She is used to aiming, calling, and executing the shots; not the other way around. As far as Newt and Romney are concerned, they are finished. They will never be able to galvanize the base, excite the Regean Democrats, and attract the Independents let alone unite the Republican Party that is as fractured as the Democratic Party. Governor Palin can and will, and I do not think she is finished politically. After all, how much time did she have to present herself when all of the players in the last election were well known? They had two years to travel the country and meet the people; she had two months! And yet, the crowds that followed her were large and enthusiastic; sometimes, larger than the Big Zero. Women can be proud of her; she did it all! Stepping down when you are at your peak is not quitting; IMHO, it is wise and prudent. She cares about the people of Alaska, and she refuses to sell them short. She makes no excuses, but she has her reasons. What they are we can only guess because she only hinted at them. IMHO, we have not seen the last of Governor Palin. Whatever she decides to do she will do with the grace and dignity with which she has lived her life thus far.
Just my HO. Thanks for listening.
Uppity,
You’ve always been right on about politics and in the traditional political paradigm that we’ve been under for so long, I would totally agree with you.
But I think we’re going to see our world change in ways that we’ve never seen before, starting with the phony flu pandemic coming, the ensuing deaths and forced vaccinations, and declaration of martial law when people start refusing to be vaccinated.
There will be record numbers of homeless, unemployed, personal wealth completely wiped out. Goldman Sachs is not even close to being done picking our bones clean. U.S. will try to to disarm the citizens.
It will be a difficult times and all bets will be off.
Obamageddon…..
Here’s the latest “tweet” from Sarah Palin’s twitter: AKGovSarahPalin
We’ll soon attach info on decision to not seek re-election… this is in Alaska’s best interest, my family’s happy… it is good, stay tuned
about 3 hours ago from TwitterBerry
That’s not the latest tweet.
True, she posted the Lt. Governor’s response. What is so funny in this is CNN. When this first happened there was some confusion b/c CNN and others had already posted that her big announcement was that she wasn’t going to run for re-election. So it was confusing when the reports trickled in that she resigned. CNN went out front with their story, before her actual press conference thinking they had the scoop! Ha! She scooped them!
Another thing. This did bump MJ off the 24/7 coverage but it also seems to have kept the penguins at bay, perhaps contemplating Sarah’s next move?? She’s even got the penguins nervous.
Supreme Court justice Souter resigns and nobody questions it.
“I profoundly respect your decision for I know the depth of character and integrity from which it springs. Rare, indeed, are such selfless acts seen in the public arena.”
I know I’m late to this thread and don’t have time to read all the comments because they are coming too fast.
I disagree that Palin is leaving because she can’t stand the heat…she’s leaving because she’s worried that her family can’t stand the heat. She mentioned the terrible things being said about her youngest child, Trig, and I’ve seen some of those things written on blogs of the so-called Progressives (Re-gressives). I can’t imagine how difficult this must be for their young daughters, to see photo-shopped pics of their mom or hearing her called a slut on national TV.
It’s not Sarah Palin who is hurting women by backing out…it’s the women’s groups who sat idly by while she was being attacked with mysogyinist remarks. They are to blame if women who want to run for a political office take it on the chin. They did nothing, and many joined in on the hate speech aimed at her.
I’m back and wanted to report the bits I heard on the radio as well as on tv before I walked out the door.
The boyz are scared out of their minds. The very first thing on the radio news was the repeat of the Katie Couric attack when she asked about what Palin reads… just to remind people of the “stupid” responses. (Of course what it reminded me of was the LACK of scrutiny CBS gave Ozer0)
On Fox, some male newsreader (British, I think) was interviewing someone from the Republican Governors group. As I’m not familiar with daytime tv news, I don’t know names. BUT the interviewee said he had known ahead of time that Palin was stepping down. The interviewer nearly had a stroke! He said that Fox had interviewed Palin’s brother who hadn’t known ahead of the announcement. He was nearly screaming. I was laughing.
Yes, Sarah is going to corner the market in coverage from now until who knows when. She is no dummy. Whatever she does.
Gee, UW, NOW you want my opinion.
Well, Sarah Palin is a quitter. She resigned an appointed position in Alaska because she was unable to do her job with a corrupt Republican machine in the state. So, she ran for governor and broke the machine.
The Democrats (and some Republicans ) in AK launch an ethics probe EVERY TIME she leaves the state. IF she stays until January of 2011, her approval rating will drop and she will be unable to be the cash machine the Republicans need in 2010.
Right now, I love my girl Sarah. She knows the Republican Party is more important than her as a governor. She will raise funds for the Congressional candidates that need to win to take back the country.
If the party knew what they were doing, Michael Steele would resign next week and Palin could be the head of the RNC.
Love ya P4P, but I don’t get it. It seems to me the republicans have treated Palin very badly. I can’t imagine how or why she stays with them. Note, I am equally disgusted by dems. I really wish we could get an independent prez. What a great thought for Independence Day!!! A truly fearless leader that doesn’t take sh*t from the D”s & R’s! That would be freedom!
My fav explanation (which is very long shot) can be found on No Quarter – this is it:
“Comment by gianni | 2009-07-03 19:27:10
By the way, one thing I heard that is intriguing is this. Perhaps Palin knows that something is cooking with regard to Obama’s ineligibility to be POTUS, and with the election being fraudulent, Biden would not become President. Instead, the person with the second number of votes and his VP candidate, namely McCain and Palin would take over as President and Vice President. Also, without the baggage of a government position Palin is now free to tell it like it is, including anything she knows about Obama. I am looking forward to some great revelations about the Fraud in Command in the days to come”
If only…
P4 interesting. I just saw a clip (a longer version) of her announcement and she did use a basketball analogy and said when the whole team is after the point guard she should keep her eye on the basket, protect the ball and pass it so someone could score and win the game….(I paraphrased and I’m not a bb fan so I apologize for the rough translation), anyway, maybe she does want to work as a fundraiser for the party or a party insider.
well.well.this is exciting.i,m getting out the snacks and drinks it.s going to be a loooooooooong night.
maybe even bake a PIE.how bout that Uppity?????????
Did someone mention PIE
Maybe she will resign from the Republican Party and run as an Indie. I would. That might be a brilliant move. Repubs and Dems both suk after all.
Could be an effective way to seperate herself from the extreme religious right .
Uppity – Couple of thoughts:
1) I think you are being way too kneejerk in deciding about 20 nanoseconds after her announcement, that her political career is now dead. I think reflection on what she said and her rationale (I LOVED the full statement she gave) is in order and time will tell whether this is a good move or a big mistake. But, way too early to pronounce it a big mistake right now.
2) I also believe that your pronouncement of her making a mistake to leave her position now is based on the type of assessment politicians always make and which is why we dislike most of them so much – always follow the path that is the least risky. Just because something hasn’t worked out in the past (and I question your history on this, in any event), doesn’t mean a bold move won’t work in the future. Bucking conventional wisdom is Palin’s forte. It is what makes people either love or hate her, but it certainly seems a very authentic part of her personality and being bold and taking risks is what we should want in a politician.
3) Just because this seems to come out of the blue to us doesn’t mean she hasn’t thought long and hard about it and has made plans for it for a while now. In fact, she said as much. It may be a risky move, but I don’t think it is a haphazard or irrational one and it is made by someone who is clearly an incredibly smart, savvy person. Perfect, no – but not stupid or lacking common sense. Maybe she made a decision you wouldn’t have made, but that’s a reason to see how this will unfold, not to act like she is now the stupidest fool ever because she took action contrary to what you would have done.
4) We all have become so used to politicians hanging onto their seats for dear life – practically only leaving until they are dragged away kicking and screaming (Norm Coleman ring a bell), unless, of course, they leave 2 years in to run for higher office – like President (cough, cough!), that we find it almost insane or insanely stupid when they resign even if it’s for the most sensible reasons possible. Not everyone in office is so narcisstic that they think they and they alone can hold it (note to Mark “god wants me to be governor” Sanford). Palin clearly is not. She sensibly concluded that her lieutenant governor was imminently able to serve, that if she did have higher ambitions for 2012 that it might hurt the welfare of the state and made a decision. Again, we’ll see how it unfolds, but I think we’ve become so used to craven politicians whose only seeming goal in life is to hold their position that we forget people do make strategic decisions to resign positions that sometimes do work out fabulously.
And, having worked in the corporate world myself (as well as in politics), I’ve seen people often leave what seem like extremely powerful positions in order to position themselves in a strategically better place in the long run. Usually, it’s to start their own firm and this can seem crazy when someone leaves a #2 or #3 position at a Fortune 50 firm to go off on their own. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. But, you know – 95% of the time, it’s a man that takes that risky step and they are usually seen as a maverick even if their first effort doesn’t work.
5) Which brings me to my last point. Let’s not feed what is going to be the MSM beast in the next few days by acting like Palin is somehow a quitter and is going to support sexist stereotypes about how women can’t “cut it” through this action. First, as I mentioned – men in the corporate world take risky steps like this all the time and they aren’t considered quitters, but risk takers. Second, I don’t think she is quitting anything. Looks like she is making a strategic move that she hopes will position herself better in the long run and will help the welfare of the state of Alaska better in the long run as well. But, she’ll still be working her ass off for the state and the country. She’s doing it in a responsible fashion and is thinking of others, almost, even above her own political ambition, which may be the one thing that helps her political career the most in the long run. (And, something, I’d expect a mom of 5 and a former point guard on a team-based sport to do almost instinctually).
So – you don’t have to agree with her decision, but I think the big mistake and a really bad message to send is to act like SHE is now the one who will be responsible for how the left and the media will characterize this. No matter what she did, they would be saying the same, so let’s not feed them ourselves. (And, please, please, please – let’s not say “her detractors have ‘won’” a few minutes after her announcement. This is a marathon, not a 100-yarder. We shall see what the months and years will bring.)
I’m kinda liking it that she’s not the typical politican.
Sorry. She is a national Republican. It’s one of the reasons she didn’t get along with the pork loving Alaska Republicans.
Some basketball teams used to play offsense against Michael Jordan by putting 3-4 players on him. In this analogy she’s like Jordan. The question is what kind of team did Palin put together?
Sarah Palin is not a quitter — my bet is she is getting ready to lay the ground for her next campaign… or rather, continue her campaign.
Also, as a professional woman all my long years, I want to say that I have always resented being told how a professional woman should behave. Run your game your own way and I’ll run mine.
Bravo Sarah — she’s going her own way, cutting a new path past the wilderness of boy’s club politics. Never underestimate HIllary or Sarah — ask Lynn Forester! — 3 women who do it THEIR way!
Well, let’s see. So far her 17 year old has been publicly ridiculed for her pregnancy, her 4 month old was accused of not being her own child (or that her actions during pregnancy caused his Downs), her 14 year old was ridiculed by an old lazy comedian (for looking too much like the aforementioned 17 year old, I guess). Maybe she’s just calling it a day before they start up on the other one – what’s she 6 years old now? Fair game for the MSM these days – shameful.
I really couldn’t blame her if she had just had enough of this crap and wanted to live a normal life – and being able to sue people’s asses if they continue this shit is just a bonus!
Run, like you, I have been involved intimately in both politics and corporations. There is one huge difference. I don’t see an elected position as a job in a company, where you can get promoted or move on in your own time. An elected postion is a commitment to serve a term. When you break the commitment, it is not the same as moving on from one job to another, laterally or through your own advancement plans. When you run for office you make a commitment to the people who elect you. It’s not about what politicians think, it’s about carrying out your commitment to the people who elected you. Other than illness or other situations beyond your control, the masses do not think highly of someone who doesn’t finish out a term.
I doubt if she can sue, seeing as the fame genie is out of the bottle. However, she can now talk about Bill Ayers and Letterman’s child bride and how Chris Matthews calls her a sideshow while begging her daily to do Hardball.
Sarah unplugged could be real dangerous, just sayin’.
“Other than illness or other situations beyond your control, the masses do not think highly of someone who doesn’t finish out a term.”
They certainly wouldn’t vote for him for President!
[Sorry Uppity, but when you second guess like that, what your really saying is "I know better than you." And maybe it's better not to say that.]
Anyway, Happy Independence Day – enjoy the fireworks!
I am hoping her child that said, “Hell Yeah!” is her eldest son and that the message is the military is fed up. Sarah did say that there will be more to come on that comment.
…hoping it was Trak.
UW,
Hillary Clinton gave up her commitment to NEW York to run for President. Oh wait, she was still a Senator. She gave it up to work for Barfy.
“It’s not Sarah Palin who is hurting women by backing out…it’s the women’s groups who sat idly by while she was being attacked with mysogyinist remarks. They are to blame if women who want to run for a political office take it on the chin. They did nothing, and many joined in on the hate speech aimed at her.”
Bravo
O/T a bit, but in this thread.
Surfergrl – “But I think we’re going to see our world change in ways that we’ve never seen before, starting with the phony flu pandemic coming, the ensuing deaths and forced vaccinations, and declaration of martial law when people start refusing to be vaccinated.”
Don’t take the vaccine but it would be irresponsible to call this flu “phony”. The conspiracy thing is a bit over wrought IMO. For some really serious RESEARCH and and REPORTING, see Pundita’s very hard work over at RBO. Although there have been several gaffes in this thing, Pandemics are not daily occurances, and with the distain we all have for Government and World Bodies, do we expect them to have THIS one right on Day One? “They are out to kill us all” just doesn’t make your argument any more believable. IMO
Hillary Clinton, P4, ran for President WHILE she was a senator, just like most senators do. She didn’t quit three years early to do……….and unexplained thing instead. When she left, she left to take a position she felt would serve the country.
But you know something, P4, this is why I do not trust republicans because they just can’t wait to shit on Hillary. If Hillary were running for president in 2012, the old Billary tricks would be back in full force.
Hey, remember I had my physcial last week? My doctor asked me if I wanted the flu shot. Can you guess what I said?
Ok finely, since you slapped me upside the head, name me one person who quit an elected position who went on to win a higher elected postion. And then tell me I don’t know better than I should.
There must be a scandal in there somewhere.
Re: women’s groups. There ARE no women’s groups left in the USA. They were hijacked years ago by pro abortion groups. They are so entrenched in politics they will all be wearing burkas before they Get It. Please do not expect anything from these people. NOW once had a half million members, now they have 60,000. These people think that abortion is only key to their freedom, while bit by bit, their other freedoms are being revoked right under ttheir noses. And since neither party gives a shit about women, they will eventually lose the right to abortion too. Then we can all just go back to the 60s. Hell we are almost there now.
LOL LR. You are soooooooooo bad. I don’t reallly think there’s a scandal. I just think it got to be too much.
Twitter, true to it’s name, is pretty much wall-to-wall with affair speculation.
Barack Obama didn’t quit his senate seat to run for president. He just collected his check and didn’t do anything. And he certainlly couldn’t quit three years early since he was only there for a year. So it’s not a comparison.
I believe Sarah could have been reelected governor on her achievements and maybe she could have run for senator, but I just don’t get how quitting her job as governor can be a plus for her.
P4, I’ll bet she slows down twitter it gets so overloaded. lol.
What do you mean affair? That I would not believe.
Uppity, I think finely was just calling you on your disrepectful language. We have no idea what Palin and Hillary Clinton have really gone through.
What really burns me is almost a year ago to the DAY we were on this blog, wondering what was gonna happen to Hillary, would she run as an Independent, should she, could she…..looking forward to Denver, trying to make sure she was on the ballot, hoping she would over taken him at the convention, that the Supers would come to their senses….then, speculating on who McCain would pick, Whitman? Fioiney (sp), Pawlenty, Romney (yuck)…….I was hoping for Sarah. And I remember that night in August, sitting on my back porch with my laptop at 2:00 am and reading somewhere on the net that a small plane from AK had landed in Iowa….and I screamed and posted to this blog when I think it was only me and Uppity still awake….the next day, watching the announcement with my husband we both cried we were soooo happy…….and here we are again, speculating, fighting off the misogyny……….
Uppity, you are absolutely right about the abortion thing. The Democratic party brainwashed women into thinking that abortion rights were the litmus test of women’s freedom. What about education, equal pay, not being physcially abused or raped, etc? We deserve the whole enchillada, we do not deserve or need crumbs from the table (to expand the food metaphor). Reproductive rights are tremendously important, but if that is the only right we have, we are still under the thumb of society.
While I am opposed to most of what Sarah says, I think that she is a pretty tough cookie and has bucked the system and got where she got under her own power. The Democratic party abandoned women when they took the Frederick Douglas approach to the Presidency, and I think that anyone who is female or gay and voted for his excellancy will get exactly what they are owed–nothing.
Sarah says,
“Peekaboo Barky”
Papoose !!!! Where the heck have you been?NES keeps looking for you.
I woke up to Sarah Palin resigning her Governorship post on 26th July.
Kim (NK’s pig) is gonna shoot more missiles…in the process, he might just wipe Asia out of this planet. Hope not.
Hmmm…I need more coffee and fruits.
Carry on with your discussions (and speculations). But…
Just maybe, MSM bringing rumours about Little Trig into political fold, could be finally be it Sarah’s: DANG THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR!!!!!!!!! Or…
She cares much more about Alaska people than we actually know..that seeing her state being torn down by MSM, is not ideal way of governing. And her continuing to governing Alaska, with all MSM blunders, maybe a setback and wasteful in her views.
Maybe….Sarah is just Sarah..she walks the talk. She has done much for Alaska than Zero has ever done for Illinois in his entire time as Senator or as politician, all within about 2 years+ Sarah knows when to run…and prolly regroup?
Nope, we haven’t heard the last of Sarah.
Oh MS UW, I see ya taking some hit from the post header..hehehe, hang in there, gal.
Carry on…….really appreciate all the insights being displayed by y’all insofar. Milk it baby, milk it!!!!
Where’s NES? I’d love to hear her take on this!
Even though CNN is a news toilet, one person made a fairly valid point. Sarah Palin is losing popularity every day in Alaska. She had to make a choice. Be the governor of Alaska, never leave the state, sit down and shut up. The other option is to get out before she looks like she couldn’t win in Alaska and become a national figure. This way she can promote her book and be a fundraiser for Republican candidates. And if you want the Party to support you, the best way is to make a lot of money for them. Why do you think the Clintons were such a force in the Democratic party for so long?
Present! Made a promise to myself that I would try to remain sane for the summer. NES makes the verrrry
Best~~
Birthday Girl…
imusthearNES
I slapped you upside the head? Where?? When??? I did no such thing, Uppity. In my eyes, you have certainly judged Sarah much more harshly than I have judged you. Maybe I’m blind….
Wiki (a little O-history):
“Obama resigned from the Illinois Senate in November 2004 following his election to the U.S. Senate.”
“In November 2008, Obama won the presidency with 52.9% of the popular vote to McCain’s 45.7%, and 365 electoral votes to 173, to become the first African American to be elected president.”
The thing I have noticed most of all in the last election cycle and in our Internet age is our complete loss of civility, in politics and as a nation.
hmm…Birthday Girl? Where is that “About” tab when you need it, eh Papoose!?
On thing’s for sure. Since I stopped blogging my heart out, we are getting more comments on the blog. Cool! Now I can just be a member and play at night instead of worrying about what to research and write tomorrow…ad nauseum.
Looks like the stories are coming to you lately UW….who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Whose birthday is it?
Hiya Pap, how are ya doin’?
Where’s NES?
Yes finely but he was only there a year or so when he started RUNNING for president. That’s what I meant. He really did not serve much, just was busy running. Missed a zillion votes, just abandoned the job. Now most senators who run show less interest but at least they show up now and then. He made sure that he especially wasn’t around for the votes that might define him.
joey, NES is probably busy with some serious case. She never loses you know.
Go upstairs everybody. New open thread. They get too long, you have to scroll too much.
Oh okies MS UW. If ya get to get intouch with her, send her my regards k. Hmmm…serious case huh.
Wait…she might be reading here right now LOL
I do EPLI all day long, so I know about a case you cannot lose….
Something with these numbers 627 / 726…birthday…I dunno…sure wish we could see the 1st About Post…I think its No Empty Suit…ABOUTwill always be where its at…i love being uppity…finally free.
imustsendlovetojoey…is it morning yet?
Happy 4th of July! I hear fifes and drums in the valley.
it’s 10:09am 4th July 2009 here, Pap. Muahhhh
Uppity, he resigned from the Illinois State Senate in 2004. He was elected in 1996. (He also effectively resigned from the US Senate in early 2007 when he announced is candidacy.) Anyway, I already made my point, even if it wasn’t received – no matter. Good night.
He didn’t resign from the US senate when he announced. Remember he was there to vote for FISA. He resigned on 11-13-08. After he was elected.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/11/13/obama-announces-resignation-from-senate-seat/
He also resigned from the Ill state senate in November 2004, after he was elected to the US senate.
Muahhh, Joweeee.
I want some of what Papoose is having.
oh, ya make me laff!!
You are going to drive me crazy Uppity!!! What is this, a moving target you’re setting me up with, again???
“name me one person who quit an elected position who went on to win a higher elected postion. And then tell me I don’t know better than I should.”
State Senate!!! Elected position!!! I named you one, and I didn’t even follow with a jab, and you still try to say “Yeah, but” and set up the moving “US Senate” target. And it wasn’t 11-13-08, Uppity – that’s when he announced he would be resigning. It was 11-16-08!!!
Yes yes yes, but he did NOT resign before he was elected. He was elected on the 5th. Therefore he is NOT an example.
Mwaaaaaaaahahahah.
The question was name me one who quit and then was elected to a higher office. I can’t think of one.
But I love you anyways, finely. Don’t go crazy.
This thread is getting too long gang. I opened a new one. I hate scrolling.
Maybe he will keep up the pattern….
let’s go upstairs…
the Penguins have beer for everyone…..
but bring your own wallet.
What pattern, FF? The next step up is pope.
Asselrod reminds me of G. Gordon Liddy.
see, don’t make me getting crazy…
Enjoy your Weekend!
Did you notice axelrod has a REALLY funny voice? Like a cartoon character?
I’ll tell NES she missed you Papoose.
[crawls back onto chair, regains composure]
He resigned in November 2004.
He was elected to a higher position in November 2008.
[crawls back onto ground, assumes fetal position]
FF give finely one of your valiums. I don’t want to lose her.
Yes. He resigned in 2004 Because he got elected. He did not resign an elected post and then hang out and run again. He won first and then resigned after he got elected, like you have to do.
[just a sucking sound]
Uppity! I don’t have valiums!
I have beer tho – Guinness! On the next thread.
Com’on Finely – I’ll buy ya a beer
What i mean is Sarah is resigning and she did not run for anything else to cause her to resign. She is now officially a resigned elected official with no slot anywhere. When you run for another position and win, you HAVE to resign from the last position.
Finely wants to smack me so hard. I’m laughing my head off. I think I will post my question on the new thread just for fun. lol.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
FF give her a baseball bat. finely I would LOVE to get snockered with you.
I don’t drink beer FF. Got any wine? The kind with a cork?
I don’t drink beer either, but the Penguins have ipened a bar up there while y’all were down here arguing about Obama! LOL
Wait till mary sees……….
damn…I gotta get that flipper fixed
Uppity – again:
It is your opinion that a committment to a political office is somehow different than a highly placed position in a corporation or in any other organization. Believe me, I’ve felt more let down by the resignation of charismatic leaders in non-profit organizations in my community than I have from most politicians resigning. I happen to disagree with you that the political committment is always somehow more of a comittment than any other. In fact, I wish to god that some politicians took the welfare of their constituents to heart more than whatever comittment they took to serve out their term. It is not always in the best interests of those constituents for them to do so – sometimes because of bad conduct, sometimes not.
It is all in HOW you leave the office, not the mere fact of whether you leave office or not. Once AGAIN – it is too early to tell whether Palin’s leaving will be positive or negative in the long run.
And again – I posit that you are judging Palin way too harshly and through the lens of your own narrow experience (and I say that only as we all have a narrow lens that is ours alone) and not allowing her to to make a thought-through decision on her own.
When you take a job how long do you take it for? Pretty much unknown, although there might be a verbal agreement.
When you run for office, you are there to serve a specific term. You wouldn’t run for an office you are saying: vote for me to serve this term. Unless you, of course, aspire to a higher office while you are serving. Constituents don’t mind that because it’s become the normal course of things. Gives them the chance to reach the Peter Principle faster.
That’s what I meant.
Mary AWOL today (now back wih 2x the RAM in this old laptop; finger crossed) and she finds this:
1. FF:, Damn flippers again
2. UW: Yeah this whole thing screwed up poor bill and the penguins.
3. Wait till mary sees……….
OK What are you two up to?
Aaarrrrgh!
What shadow is that behind Bill? Haalp.
Swell528, on July 3rd, 2009 at 4:26 PM Said:
“The penquins got her!’
That’s the spirit, Swell. Welcome!
Great fireworks on the sidebars!!!
Yes Mary. The shadow. Doesn’t look good does it?
The header has taken on a life of its own, Mary. Who knows what will happen next?
I’m worried for MKB Uppity, don’t you have a safe place for him to go tonight like say, Dick Cheny’s old bunker? No, wait, Drunk Joe’s probably in there babblin’ something about Sarah Palin….”women are like that” you know Joe.
Hell, imust, I ain’t putting poor bill in there with Joe. They would report me to the ASPCA.
LOL! Nice fireworks by the way. I think I’m the only one here.. no Joey, Mary…it sucks to be on the West Coast, it’s only 9:30 here!!!
Happy Independence Day Everyone….Happy Independence Day Palin Family.
Re: Sarah Pslin
First can we all agree that Sarah did not get to be a beloved and effective Governor because she is an airhead or a flibbertigibbet? Can we also assume that she’s fully cognizant of being the woman who does it all?
Second, can we further assume that she didn’t make her decision to resign the half-hour before she gave her speech? One month ago she was interviewed by Hannity and sounded very much like someone who was preparing to run against obama. She attacked his disastrous economic and enenrgy agendas, alluded to his weakness on national security, talked about state’s rights, and, perhaps most intriguingly, repeatedly praised our military. In rebutting recent criticism from Letterman and/or Kerry, she seemingly irrelevantly again praised the military.
So, can we assume that she had this plan to resign in mind when she made althose statements?
Doesn’t sound much like a quitter to me. She understands full well that obama, the DNC, and radicals–including those in the MSM–are scared spitless of her. For sure, she has someone reading the blogs and knows her base of grassroots support is growing, especially among women.
No, methinks she’s not a quitter. I hope she has supporters in high places who want to run her on a third party. I know, UW, about third-party candidates, but that pol this week showed that Americans disgusted with both Repubs and Dems. We must be patient to learn what she has in mind. And I hope in the meantime she’s giving 0 a stroke. Di to mrs. 0.
Yes Mary. The shadow. Doesn’t look good does it?
The header has taken on a life of its own, Mary. Who knows what will happen next?
ACK! ACK! ACK!
imustprotest
“I’m worried for MKB Uppity,”
Me too, imust. Oh, what wickedness is here! Oh, alas and alack!
I finally had a chance to watch Palin’s announcement first hand. I am going to take her resignation at face value (which I don’t see any political commentators doing). She said she is stepping down for the benefit of Alaska. The bogus ethics lawsuits are tying up too much time that should be used for governing and costing both AK and the Palin’s alot of money.
That is what she said – I believe her.
I think she is doing exactly what she wants to do . THAT IS A GOOD THING FOR WOMEN EVERYWHERE.
She has always stood up for what she believes, and has never backed down from a fight.
The best thing is that she has TOTAL CONTROL.
A great thing for women…………
Even Obama couldn’t do this:
“But she went rogue one more time yesterday afternoon, achieving the near-impossible feat of knocking the endless Michael Jackson coverage off the air.”
I think Sarah’s decision to resign was a well thought out
one and does not make her appear weak at all. She
has basically been “handcuffed” in Alaska with constant
ethics complaints with no end in sight and she does
not have the personal wealth to continue this fight. I
really don’t understand why anyone would expect her to
continue to endure this abuse. Now she is free to go anywhere
at any time and campaign for other candidates and I believe
she will do that. She can also make money on speaking
engagements and go on a book tour which she would not
have been able to do otherwise. I believe her when she
says she is doing this for the state of Alaska as well as
her family. I also would like to point out that although
Hillary experienced a large degree of abuse by the
media and others over the years it was not with the
same intensity and in the completely deranged manner
that Sarah has been attacked non-stop. I wish her the
best of luck in her future pursuits.
I don’t think it makes her appear weak either, but it doesn’t matter what I think because that is how it will be spun, over and over again until that is all she is ever known for. The media was looking for anything to spin against her, now, with this resignation, she has handed over her head on a silver platter. That is, in terms of running again for political office. If she has no intention of running again then yes, she can do speaking engagements, book tours and work behind the scenes.
I think she’s made a fabulous decision. She is refusing to be controlled and manipulated. The position she is in as governor is forcing her to play defense, to do nothing more than respond to phony ethics complaints and to try and defend herself from media assaults. Now that she’s resigned she can start playing offense. She can kick some ass. She owes nobody, she has no responsibility to the taxpayers, and she is free to be her own woman.
‘Some will question the timing. Let’s just say, this decision has been in the works for awhile…
In fact, this decision comes after much consideration, and finally polling the most important people in my life – my children (where the count was unanimous… well, in response to asking: “Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children’s future from outside the Governor’s office?” It was four “yes’s” and one “hell yeah!” The “hell yeah” sealed it – and someday I’ll talk about the details of that… I think much of it had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother Trig mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently.) Um, by the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we all could learn so much from someone like Trig – I know he needs me, but I need him even more… what a child can offer to set priorities right – that time is precious… the world needs more “Trigs”, not fewer.’
Maybe she is just tired of the WACKO MEDIA crawling through her trash and sleeping on her doorstep looking to trash her family!
yttik,
I think you’re on to something.
remember the Phoenix…………….
I think she made a good choice. On top of the fact she’s probably sick of the media attention on her, Bristol, etc etc… I doubt we’ve heard the last of her.
On the other hand Sanford doesn’t show the same sense. It’s that Y chromosome thing – I swear!
Well I am going to take the wait and see approach here. Sarah is a bomb looking for a target and she has the target in sight.
She was being inhibited by the job as Governor and I believe we will be hearing tons from her. That lady did not hurt women in America she is pissed off and did not want chains binding her. I am betting you will see her rock this administration and start to put the Republican party on the map. The only thing I hope she stops pushing is anti abortion. Let it take a back burner and go after the crooks in DC.
I fail to see where she hurt women and am betting more good will come out of this.
This to me is where I do not feel the same about Hilary I feel she sold out and would have felt better if she had refused the SOS job and fought for her constituents in the senate.
On Yahoo there is a headline saying Sarah has hinted about her future on some website today. It sounded like she has plans. I haven’t done my morning reading yet but am about to go seek that out.
Ok – according to this:

Facebook is the place to start watching.
Ok – here we go – right from the horses mouth with no MSM spin to it:

I think one of the reasons she resigned is she can now be more aggressive in her defense, as she needs to be, considering the amount of crap the fecal-flingers from Snobtown keep tossing at her and her family.
According to Legal Insurrection (and I tend to agree) a big factor of PDS has been Trig (which reminds me of the vile comments about Susan Boyle by the ‘beautiful people’)
