As you know, I have a hard time keeping up with all the bank closings and have had to update this post a number of times since last year. As it is, I’m behind again. It’s just so difficult to keep up with all the good news about our improving economy.
Considering all the good news we are hearing about how the economy is on the upswing, we’ve “turned the corner,” new temporary census jobs have been added, candy bars and lollipops are about to fall from the sky, and Happy Days Are Here Again, don’t let the fact that plenty of retail stores are closing their doors bother you. It’s not related. Right?
Here’s a comprehensive list of retailers who have or plan to close stores this year, even though things are much better now. You can read more about these companies by clicking on the link.
Ann Taylor: Closing 72 stores.
Blockbuster: 500 to 545 stores as of April 2010. Additional 76-125 by End Of Year.
Walden Books: 182 stores. (Who reads books, anyhow? How boring; Besides, soon Google will steal all the literary intellectual properties out there and nobody will even have to pay those silly authors who busted their asses to write those books).
Footlocker: 106 stores.
Home Depot: 3 stores, and laying off 1000 employees.
Crabtree and Evelyn: 35 stores.
Albertsons: 11 stores.
Sam’s Club (WHAT?): 10 stores.
Disnney Store: 24 stores in USA, 3 stores in Canada
French Connection: 17 stores
Men’s Wearhouse: 145 stores
American Eagle Outfitters: 28 Martin OSA stores and online businesses
Williams Sonoma (Uppity says GASP!): Undisclosed number of stores
Macy’s: 5 stores

They also dealt in the black African slave trade, but really prized having white slaves, which were tortured horribly. I’m reading a book about it now, White Gold. Stupid, stupid obots. BIg Lots is closing stores????? I can understand some of the high end stores closing, since many people no longer have the $ to shop at them, but Big Lots is where you go when you can’t afford to shop any where else! IWe are sooooo screwed.
