One thing Congress is good at: Kabuki. Tony Hayward is today’s show.

The show has begun.

Tony Hayward is being roasted by Congress today. 

Not that the prick doesn’t deserve a roasting.  Personally, I like the idea that one woman had. Throw some gulf oil on him, throw the feathers of dead birds at him and toss him into the Gulf to see how well he swims.

Tony is a real elitist creep as is his hockey-executive Board Chairman who “cares about the small people”. They are the living examples of why people despise corporations, and living proof that, when left on their own honor, corporations have no honor.

All that is true. But quite frankly, Congress is just full of blowasses who can’t wait for their time in front of the cameras to show everybody how they “care”. There is precious little difference between them and the guy they are roasting today. Except they get to sit Higher Up and run the Show. As I watch each one of these Congressional creatures speak and throw barbs, all I can think is: You Should Talk.

Congress cares so much and is so competent that the only damned thing they ever do is put on their Kabuki shows when something horrible happens. Ever on the search for that perfect sound bite they can use in their next election, ever on the hunt for that one line that makes it to prime time. Ever useless. That’s our Congress. 

They will skewer Tony Hayward today. Nothing useful will come of it. The people in the Gulf will continue to be on the outside looking in. The wildlife in the Gulf will continue to die horrible deaths. These animals are so sickened they are actually trying to escape their own habitats and gather at shores in agony.

The Gusher will continue today while these people blow smoke out of every major orifice,  a Gusher that is equivalent to one Valdez every five days.

Congress could do some good for a change if the whole lot of these phony out- of -touch, arrogant, useless entrenched snobs would put on some rubber boots and go clean up a beach.  A beach that incidentally wouldn’t be harboring black goo if the detached, lobbyist-loving, stockholding ”leaders”  in DC had accepted offers for skimmers a month and a half ago. But that’s not what Congress does well. But they sure can put on a  Kabuki show. Today will be no different.

They will carry out the Kabuki show. They will secretly drool over that $20 billion account BP will set up, and they will dream of ways to raid it, just like they raided the social security pot.

Then they will all go to lunch.

Expect a “Bill” to soon appear that does nothing for the people in the Gulf, that does nothing for the wildlife in the Gulf and that does nothing to stop the gusher. But it sure will cost too much, and I can almost guarantee that some major corporations who wrote the bill will be on board supporting it and plenty of election accounts will suddenly get bigger.
