This is so good, I …I…don’t even know what to say.
It doesn’t matter whether you love or hate the candidate, or the party, or the agenda. It’s Real. And more importantly, it’s more real when other women join in. Men love this, trust me. It meets their goals and reinforces oppression all in one swipe. This kind of treatment is reserved for women in politics, in the workplace….and then eventually, in the home.
If you don’t demand respect, you will never get respect. You don’t ask for it. You demand it. You don’t demand it when it suits you. You demand it for All Time. Or next time it will be YOUR turn. The truth is, if you don’t respect me, chances are I’m not going to respect you either. It’s human nature. But there are other ways to fight back without being sexist. “Do Me ‘Feminism’” isn’t one of them in case you haven’t noticed. Nor is Father “Knows Best ‘Feminism’” either. Both are enabling this behavior.
It’s very simple. If you are an object of derision, your rights have been taken. Take them back and don’t wait for somebody else to do it “for” you —or pretend they are going to do it for you (read Politicians). It’s Your body. Your life. Your dignity. YOUR rights.
In short, you reap what you sow. This is why it doesn’t really matter what the political agenda is when it comes to this disgusting trend. You don’t have to like the agenda, you don’t even have to vote for the agenda. But like I said, there are other ways to fight back, and calling someone a Bitch or a Whore or a C*nt isn’t one of them that should be accepted by ANY WOMAN.
Sexism and disrespect for women is growing daily: You have to be blind not to see it and, if you are a women, you have to be stupid to participate in it. Truly stupid. There is no other word to describe it. It’s in politics, in the press, in TV and magazine ads, on the internet. It’s everywhere. That’s called erosion.
When they talk down to a woman, they are talking down to you. Condescention is a very handy tool. So, what are you going to do about it?
Take back your rights or lose them forever. Start by not participating and demanding that others do the same. Because this will NEVER work unless it comes from both extremes. One-sided respect never works.

This is a truly great film but Uppity is the only one who is talking about what to do about it (other than joining up) Still this film is a great CR tool and I will share it.
Green, I have to give Amy credit for doing what I would never do. Don’t ask me how, but she is able to put politics aside and just DEMAND that this shit stops. I admire her for that. i am still one of those people who are sick and tired of one sided slop and “coming together” meaning I take all the shit I can from someone who offends me, and then just forgive, but I dare not do the same. But one thing I try to be very diligent about is sexism. I have made my own personal pledge not to participate and it’s not such a hard pledge at all, since I have been vigiliant on behalf of myself and other women on this issue most of my life. But I cannot compare this little blog t what Siskind is doing. I’m not sure i could even keep my cool doing it.

Roman Polanski should be executed for the slimy child molestor that he is. I would regard it as karma if he got gigged for this. Uppity- you give words to much of what I feel. I have done what I can in my own little corner of the world. Educating my children- and their friends. Educating the staff in my position as manager. Not allowing sexist jokes or crude remarks (from the men OR the women) who worked with/for me. Pointing out the sexism in advertising. Refusing to buy clothing for my children from companies whose advertising I consider offensive- and explaining WHY to my children. Not dressing my daughter in clothes I wouldn’t want to see on a sex worker.
What I do is not much- but in the grander scheme of things- perhaps it helps and perhaps, like a pebble thrown into a pond, it ripples out.

This is SUPPOSED to be NOW’s job. If you ask me, Amy has done more in the past year than NOW has done in the last decade. They take NO ONE on. They just get suckered in by creatures like Reid and his bullshit about the Paycheck Fairness Act DAYS before the election. How powerful were they at that one? Or at running that sack of shit Alan Simpson out of the White House. They brought him a bag of rubber tits and then he walked all over them on camera.
One thing is for sure. If the far right and far left don’t like you, you’re doing the job. So let these freaks do their tricky Non Apologies and let the public see how doing it that way only confirms the accusation. In this video, Joy looked like a fool. So did Letterman. So did Obama. So did Matthews. They all blew off the truth , and the truth is they are sexist — and it showed.

mom, what you do is great. We all encouraged each other during the primaries at all the Hill sites to contact the offensive womanizing companies of the media, etc. I recall that magazine cover with Hillary tied to the tracks, the nutcracker, the constant comments from political pundits that were so over the top their remarks made our jaws drop. To hit them in the pocket book is one way they will comprehend. Writing them, boycotting their product, not clicking on their video or watching their sites, not turning your TV to their channel, etc. is all a great way to protest. Just look how MSNBO’s ratings tanked! They sure deserved it for their horrific and ignorant bo ass-kissing coverage.

Well that little group of young men and I had a VERY long discussion about how MTV portrayed women.
Then I got on the phone with the cable provider and told them to get MTV the hell out of my house. And WHY. The cable company claimed there was no way they could block that channel, it was part of the package. So I told them to come get their equipment out of my house. Amazing! It was an instant MIRACLE I tell you! They found a way to block MTV from my package.
To this day MTV, VH-1 and CMTV are banned from my home. As far as I am concerned showing women half naked does not enhance the music.
My oldest daughter thought I was the wicked witch when I refused to let her go to a Mick Jagger concert when she was a teenager. He had exposed himself on stage and there was no way I would contribute to his pocket when he showed such disrespect for the audience that paid to see him.
I also never found Don Rickles funny for the same reason.
Now that she is older and a mother she understands my position.
I called a employee for work one night and when he answered the phone he used such profanity that I was shocked.I knew him for years and never heard any thing like that from him. I replied
” I do not know who your are talking to clown , but it better not be me”. He was so apologetic here his wife had just gotten two obscene phone calls and I was the third caller. That man was so sorry for a long time.

Loved the TNA vid, thanks for posting that! I remember when she started it and did a few posts on NQ, and took some flack from a couple of posters there becuz she was trying to bring together all women from the right & left and table the abortion issue so they could fight against sexism in general. Anyway, that pissed off some of the more hardcore lefties and they thought she should add pro choice to her platform, which at that time anyway, she did not want to do. Anyway, I like her and think she is doing a great job. I hope that somehow, someway, Joy Behar gets to see that vid.

Helen, I’ve been called for jury duty every four years for as far back as I can remember, and I have never served, Corporate America made sure of that for a number of years and then when the new laws kicked in and you had NO excuse, I figured out how to beat them. You can reschedule within a certain window. I always pick a national holiday week because I know all the lawyers and judges are making a long long LONG weekend of it. So if you pick 4th of July week or Thanksgiving week, jury is not in session. It has never failed me.
Thanks for the tip. I had to get a note from lakers Dr when I got it last winter (it was right after his grand mal).

Hmmm. I’m half Greek (my Dad, RIP) and told my mom when I was little I would never marry a Greek. They’re very domineering, great cooks, good at doing lots of things, but think they need to rule the roost. My Dad did mellow out with age though, thank God.

He would love it) and then our whole group is going to my nieces house afterwards and we’re having a Greek feast and opening a bottle of Napoleon cognac that my Dad bought over 30 years ago!

I was given a bottle of grand armagnac what was over 40 years old and it was so wonderful that when I opened the bottle the bouquet filled the room. Let me tell you we did NOT share it with ANYONE! You are going to love that cognac. Look for the bouquet when opening, a gift from your Dad.

Yes, I’ve been thinking about that actually. We’re making huge batch of it the day before the funeral, so I’m going to write down the amounts and then cut it down, so I can post it for you. We don’t have it written down, my aunt taught my mom & dad how to make it, they taught me, and my mom also taught my sisinlaw. It has a very distinctive (and wonderful) taste and smell, and if somethings off, I know instinctively how to adjust it. I don’t know how to convey that in a recipe, but I will do my best. Also, so sorry haven’t gotten his baklava recipe posted yet. Will try to finish that later tonite. I’m trying to write down all my recipes and keep them on the computer, but its a project.
Socal, I’m pretty seasoned at following recipes that are not exact. I’m Italian. That’s how I learned too. So don’t worry about it.

Yup Mom, I crisped some pitas. We ate a boatload of hummus. I never over-make it, because it’s SO much better fresh. It’s just so easy to make and so overpriced in stores. I like to roast the garlic I use. I just roast a boatload of garlic and keep it in the fridge. I am perpetually making hummus.
The weather blows here too. Temp not so low but wind chill is brutal. We’ve got some snow but nothing really major. The Colliewog is overjoyed of course.
Mom I have a recipe for home made pita bread. I’ll let you know how it is and if it’s a hit I’ll give you the recipe. Looks really easy.
