  1. Wracking sobs here.

Here is what we could have had.
    Look at what we got.

And the toll has been taken for four years.

How can we possibly ever forget or forgive?

  2. Wow. What amazing things she has done and when I consider how much she has to tolerate just for the privilege of serving.

I know I will never forget.

  3. Maher continues to rigorously defend Rush. You would think the women on the left would Get it.

  4. I also had NO idea that Hillary keeps some of these women alive just by being there and watching.

  5. “That photo is my bullet-proof vest”.

    …….shiver.

  6. Ah, you beat me to it lol

Yes, this Meryl Streep video, as well as Hillary’s own, are so moving and beautiful.

Instead of a compassionate, hardworking public servant who looks at the big picture, we got a narcissistic politician’s politician. Instead of gold we got tin foil.

  7. Yay! You put it up! Hillary will always be MY President!

  8. Oh, gross. There’s an old Murder she Wrote on, and a young Bill Maher is on it. OMG.

  9. Okay. I am a crying, blithering mess now! What Meryl said was spot on — she recognized how closely Hillary is scutinized and how tough women in particular are on her. It is an unspeakable burden to do your job while having to be the container for so many people’s projections.

    Go Hillary! Go Meryl

It was lovely to see these ladies together, and to see Meryl Streep speak in such glowing terms about our Secretary of State, understanding her value without thinking that she has to apologize in any way for her unabashed support of a great woman, leader, and courageous role model.

  10. Meryl’s cool. She donating all her salary for The Iron Woman to the new Women’s History Museum in Washington.

  11. lorac if you have hillary’s video add it to the post!

  12. Glad you put this up. When I watched it last nite I was moved to tears. Wasn’t sure if you guys had already discussed it or not.

  13. Uppity, I looked and could not find the video of Hillary. All I could find was this:

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/women-in-the-world.html

  14. That link goes right to her video. Of course, “all” she does is talk about how great other women are. Can you even imagine BO doing anything like that? ROFL

  15. Thanks lorac!

  16. While I’m glad that Hillary is doing so much for women in other countries – it makes me sad. Obama’s theft of the nomination and her joining his administration both handicap her ability to speak freely about the sexism in THIS country. The world’s gain is kind of our loss.

  17. I don’t know if y’all posted this anywhere or not so I’ll put it here.

  18. Need sleep. Must have sleep. Time change bad.

  19. The link I posted above of Hillary is around 27 minutes long. I can’t find it yet on youtube, as Meryl’s is on youtube

  20. Obama wouldn’t give up ten cents for women.

  21. Aren’t those pengys cute???????????????????

  22. The world’s gain is kind of our loss

This is so true. But she is dumping him after this term, so if anybody thinks she’s going to be silent and invisible, well good luck with that.

  23. Oswald going on spring break with his BFF.

  24. That’s not Oswald. No ankle bracelet.

  25. Aren’t those pengys cute???????????????????

Too bad they’re on Delta. :-(
(only because of *one* bad experience with them)

  26. Uppityite Cooks: can you freeze mashed potatoes?

  27. Oswald only flies by ConAir.

  28. How can we possibly ever forget or forgive?

NEVER will I forget or forgive.

  29. Yep Ani, I was a crying, blithering mess too. Streep appreciates Hillary in the same way we do. We cant let Hill go because, well,…she’s us.

  30. And the toll has been taken for four years.

How can we possibly ever forget or forgive?

Exactly, We can’t forget or forgive. I’ll go one further — we have to defeat Obama in Nov…tho’ the very heavens come crashing down.

  31. Yes NES, that is it. And no, I will never forget or forgive.

  32. Hi Uppityites! I was otherwise engaged for the entire weekend. I sure did miss everyone. What a fabulous post to come back to!

That’s her! That’s my President! And no, I will never give up and never give in!

socal: Yes, you can freeze mashed potatoes.

  33. That was soooooo beautiful!! Thank you for posting it.

    djmm

  34. Exactly, We can’t forget or forgive. I’ll go one further — we have to defeat Obama in Nov…tho’ the very heavens come crashing down.

And replace him with *what* NES?

Show me a *good* alternative. I mean for women, gays and the 99%.
And now, you *know* I’m not an Obie supporter.

  35. But how is status quo good for all of the above? That’s the problem. I think we need to purge the Democratic party of Obamaites. That is our only hope of getting our party back. Obama needs to lose and his people need to be sent packing back to Chi Town.

  36. imust, I agree. But I would include we also need to purse ALL the misogynists – they don’t only exist in the Obama party – they existed before. Our needs have been thrown out to us as bread crumbs stringing us along for far longer than Obama has been around. And misogynistic comedians on both sides of the aisle have existed before Obama. I think the Obama misogynists were just able to capitalize and expand on it all, because they could hide behind “the party of women”.

And shame on all the women in power and female voters/worshippers who let this all happen.

Obama’s numbers with women are now going up. We really, really, really need to push back, and keep showing and telling everyone how misogyny is on both sides of the aisle. Otherwise he’ll succeed in painting it as a republican thing, and manipulate the women to vote for him again.

  37. Fredster and imust–you raise the dilemma of the year. Barky has to go, but the Repug alternatives totally disgust me. No sense rewarding that horrendous behavior.

I really do think that there are people on both sides who would vote 3rd party this time if they could be convinced that their vote wouldn’t be wasted. Can we mount a massive effort and be effective? Because this is something, that if it could be pulled off, would liberate the reasonable folks on both sides of the aisle.

  38. Watch the Hillary one, as well!

  39. FYI – if anyone from here emails me, if you think of it, give me a hint here (lorac, you have mail!) – because I look here more frequently than I look at my email (unless I know there is something there!) thx in advance!

  40. But how is status quo good for all of the above? That’s the problem

That’s the damned quandary! But I don’t see how it’s any better with Mitten, Sanatorium, or Newt. And God or Goddess forbid if the Repubs get the Senate also, we’d be triple screwed.

  41. lorac, I’m watching the Hillary video as we speak.

  42. The video just makes me even more angry at how we were all cheated of a great President of the United States in 2008 and a much better future than the one we find ourselves mired in now.

  43. Cheated is right Tony, in more ways than one.

  44. And replace him with *what* NES?

Show me a *good* alternative. I mean for women, gays and the 99%.
And now, you *know* I’m not an Obie supporter.

That’s what I’m saying, Fredster — I don’t care what we replace him with. That’s what I meant by “though the Heavens come crashing down.” I want revenge — his electoral defeat — pure and simple.

  45. I really do think that there are people on both sides who would vote 3rd party this time if they could be convinced that their vote wouldn’t be wasted. Can we mount a massive effort and be effective? Because this is something, that if it could be pulled off, would liberate the reasonable folks on both sides of the aisle.

It’s too late to organize a 3rd party for this election cycle, SophieCT. All for a 3rd party for next election cycle. But for now, I have only one person responsible for Hillary not being prez, and it ain’t any of the Repubs running.

  46. That’s the damned quandary! But I don’t see how it’s any better with Mitten, Sanatorium, or Newt. And God or Goddess forbid if the Repubs get the Senate also, we’d be triple screwed.

It’s better because they didn’t kill our girl, electorally.

  47. Cheated is right Tony, in more ways than one.

Quite right, imust. And, not just cheated, but brought low. “Bros before Hos” — effectively that was the Obama campaign’s calling card. I don’t ever forget that; it can’t go unpunished.

  48. That’s what I’m saying, Fredster — I don’t care what we replace him with. That’s what I meant by “though the Heavens come crashing down.” I want revenge — his electoral defeat — pure and simple.

No, I can’t go quite that far. A repub in the white house and possibly repubs taking the Senate. Well, I’ll put it this way: it depends on who Mittens picks for veep. Don’t forget: the veep presides over the Senate. Remember Cheney? I may not vote for Obama, depending on who is running for a 3rd party, but I can’t *not care* about who goes in the W.H.

  49. I’ve got to finish my post for tomorrow.

    BBL

  50. I may not vote for Obama, depending on who is running for a 3rd party, but I can’t *not care* about who goes in the W.H.

Then you’re a bigger MAN than I, Fredster. (Emphasis on “man,” bien sur.)
Fair enuf…I don’t expect people to be as crazy as I. I don’t mince words for myself, though.

PS–VPs don’t have any power in the modern presidency. When they cast the 51st vote in the Senate, they do it on directions from the Oval.

  51. What we lost when the Dems and 0 cheated and lied and manipulated him into our White House is almost unmeasurable, and is definitely unbearable.

Thank you for posting Meryl’s tribute. It was heartfelt and spot on and brought up a lot of feelings. We were robbed, but still Hillary goes on doing her incredible work and saving lives around the globe. Her story is far from over, and that’s the only consolation I see.

Will watch her part of that conversation tomorrow when I’ve recovered from this one!

  52. Then you’re a bigger MAN than I, Fredster. (Emphasis on “man,” bien sur.)

I’d like to explain this further. You, Fredster, are a (lovely) man and you mourn the loss of a great soul and candidate in the defeat of Hillary Clinton. For women (particularly Boomer women) the quality and the magnitude of the loss is greater, much greater. She is us — and the rejection of her in favor of a shallow, callow, unqualified man is a wound that cannot be binded, ever.

  53. NES, I think I cry more because of the horrid way she was painted and misjudged. The injustice of the brainwashing was more infuriating than anything. She was accused of the very things the man we now call President is guilty of. Ironic at the very least.

  54. Ani, how do we find your book when it comes out next month? Online? Bookstore? I’m so excited!

  55. Yes, Ani, the injustice cuts deep too.

Thank you for a stupendously good post today. I just tweeted it with a RT request.

  56. For women (particularly Boomer women) the quality and the magnitude of the loss is greater, much greater. She is us — and the rejection of her in favor of a shallow, callow, unqualified man is a wound that cannot be binded, ever.

Oh I definitely understand where you’re coming from. In fact, I’ve been waiting and holding my breath when I’ve done a post on feminist issues for someone to say “well *you* haven’t been through these things* or something like that. And the only response I can have is to say that I can kind of identify from the aspect of being a gay man, another oppressed group. I’m not knocking what you wrote above. I can only imagine that the identification is a lot stronger for women.

When they cast the 51st vote in the Senate, they do it on directions from the Oval.

Yeah, but imagine if that veep is Santorum or Rubio or gawd forbid Jindal. (Supposedly he’s looking better and better to the national repubs. I’d love to get rid of him but hate to inflict him upon the nation). If the Repubs get all three branches and Mitt is prez, he’ll go along with whatever Congress wants; he’s just a pushover imho. If, however, he has one of the legislative bodies in Dem hands he might not be quite so amenable to all of the crackpot shit the repubs can come up with.

  57. I’m more than a little bothered by Obama and his remark that the solidier who killed people in Afghanistan was “Shocking and Troubling”. NOt because it isn’t troubling so much as when that goatfucker at Fort Hood killed people (by the way where IS that piece of shit and why hasn’t he been executed for treason yet?), all Obama could say about Ft. Hood was “Let’s not jump to conclusions”. There is a definite disconnect and disloyalty to America with this guy and he’s President. And that alone is enough to frighten the shit out of anyone with a brain.

And by the way, I am sure the orders from the Grand Water Buffalo that soldiers are to hold their fire even when being shot at by a bunch of savages didn’t do much for the mental health of that soldier. Just saying. We talk about bullying?

  58. NES, while you are right that none of the Republican pukefaces harmed Hillary electorally, that is so only at face value. Newt Gingrich did plenty of damage to Hillary before he went down to where he belonged…in disgrace. He more than anyone set the stage for 15 years of bludgeoning of Hillary that led people to the licence to finish her off in 2008.

But I will predict that Obama will go down in shame long before Hillary won’t still be standing proudly to fight another day. That’s what karma does.

  59. by the way where IS that piece of shit and why hasn’t he been executed for treason yet?

I think they are still trying to make a decision as to whether he’s crazy or not.

Upps I hope you understood what I was trying to say. I understand NES’ point.

  60. Upps I hope you understood what I was trying to say. I understand NES’ point

Not sure what you are referring to Fredster. But then it’s early :)

  61. Yeah they are trying to decide if that goatfucker is crazy or not but they won’t do the same for the soldier. His trial will come and go and the Ft. Hood Jihad freak will still be hanging around waiting for them to “decide”.

  62. I regret my new post isn’t up yet. As usual, I spent 15 minutes to write a post and 45 f***ing minutes trying to get an image in the post. I have had it. I am not going to fight to get a post done every goddamned day and I am not loading IE 9 or another version of firefox for ANYBODY.

Somebody please find me another place to go blog. I cannot do this every day. I am ready to throw this laptop at the wall.

  63. the veep presides over the Senate.

When Sarah Palin said that they called her stoopid.

  64. Somebody please find me another place to go blog.

Maybe you could subcontract the graphics to someone else?

  65. I am not loading IE 9 or another version of firefox for ANYBODY.
    ————
“amen”. We wimminz gotta do what we gotta do.

  66. Post is up. Only had to load the photo 7 times and play play play.

  67. Fredster, I understand your position too. And, I meant it when I said you’re a lovely fella.

I think, though, that you can rest easy on the Senate. All the pundits seem to agree that that body will stay in Dem hands for this cycle. I, too, don’t want all three power centers to be in one party’s control.

  68. We cant let Hill go because, well,…she’s us.
    our better half :)

  69. Upps, I’m using Firefox 3.6.25 and I’m getting images loaded okay. Of course I”m saving them to my laptop and then uploading them.

  70. and the rejection of her in favor of a shallow, callow, unqualified man is a wound that cannot be binded, ever.

because he is an actress and she is the real deal.

  71. because he is an actress and she is the real deal

    Priceless.
