The Obama they “used to know”, or: Ignorance. If you’ve got it, flaunt it!

.. h/t John Smart

Now and then I think of that election day, November When you won I felt so happy I could die Chugged a fifth, paraded in the street And I thanked God that Palin wasn’t Veep It felt like change and it’s a hope I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of message Like this is change we can believe in, yes we can But college ended, had to pay my rent At least you’re the first gay president But the change I got was that I moved in with my mother

Because you won and then you cut me off Now your speeches never soar as high as unemployment You took Obamacare so far But you left me like a dog strapped on Romney’s car Even the shirt that was on my back Is owned by China or being arbitraged by Goldman Sachs Just send in a Predator Drone ‘Cause now you’re not Obama that I used to know

Now you’re not Obama that I used to know Now I need Obama that I used to know

Sometimes I think that Peace Prize winners shouldn’t have a kill list But you dumped Bin Laden in the sea so maybe it’s all good Said you’d rouse my economy Your big package didn’t stimulate me Still my American Idol, though When you sang, “I’m so in love with you”…Obama that I used to know

But you won and then you cut me off Made out like you’d close Guantanamo and we got nothing Relocation shouldn’t be that hard Just strap the prisoners in on top of Romney’s car No, I don’t need you to legalize Just keep the feds away from folks like you when you were younger There’s nothing that you didn’t toke But now that’s just Obama that I used to know

Obama That I used to know Obama That I used to know Obama That I used to know

In 2012 I need Obama that I used to know
..

Pretty creative, no?  Do you think there’s any symbolism intended by the two people becoming part of the Obama mural, pulling away, and then becoming part of it again at the end of the song?  On the thread that John Smart posted this video, a commenter named fembotsforObama posted this comment:

I loved how the supporters are part of the sign, are trying to break from the sign, and then become slowly reabsorbed into the sign.s They can’t escape.

So why can’t they “escape”?  One thing it suggests to me is that their identities became so intertwined with their perception of who Obama was – basically, with the symbolism of Obama’s media-fueled public persona itself.

I’m so glad so many people are waking up to the empty suit, politician (ie, liar), and opportunist that is Obama.  But what gets me, and it’s exemplified by this video, is that so many of them seem to think that Obama has changed!  They want back the Obama that “they used to know”.    Really?  When Obama came on the scene, they researched him, knowing that the best predictor of future behavior, is past behavior?  And their research showed him to be all that they thought that he was?  It wasn’t just words???  They had evidence, a history of behavior that assured them how he would act in the future, that comforted them that they knew who he was?

..

Nonsense.  They didn’t bother to look into the history or reality of Obama at all.  If they made any attempt, they just listened to OLDER words he uttered – nothing about actions.  They had some differing reasons, for sure – he was black, he wasn’t a woman, he was HISTORIC (oh wait, that’s synonymous with “black” – and ONLY “black”), he was cool, he was young.  But I think for most, a shared underlying reason was that the speeches someone was writing for him to read off his teleprompters made them feel good about themselves.  Yes, by him tooting his own narcissistic, non-reality-based horn, they thought they themselves were special.  He was high on himself, they got high on him and themselves.  He felt good, they  felt good.  Face it, it was just one big drugged up orgy!

So maybe another reason these obots can’t fully escape the Obama mural/world is because they can’t accept that he was never what they thought he was.  If he changed, as they imply in this video, then it’s his fault that he isn’t living up to his words – not their fault for not vetting him.  Not their fault for choosing an orgy over a sober, adult appraisal of a potential leader of the free world.  If they truly accepted responsibility for their poor judgment and adolescent approach to making important decisions, they could walk away from the mural.  Some OA meetings – Obots Anonymous – would do them wonders – and remember, 90 meetings in 90 days!  (that would get us just past the elections!)

..

  1. We admitted we were powerless over the Obama Narrative—that our lives had become unmanageable.
  2. Came to believe that only intelligence greater than our emotions could restore us to sanity.
  3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to being guided by reality as defined by evidence.
  4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
  5. Admitted to ourselves and to all PUMAs the exact nature of our wrongs – and shouted it from every rooftop, newspaper column, and TV news show.
  6. Were entirely ready to remove all these defects of character, and to learn the difference between infatuation and real love.
  7. Humbly asked all PUMAs to forgive us for defacing their property, locking them out of caucuses, allowing Black Panthers to intimidate them from voting, calling them racists, threatening their lives, being total misogynist pigs, stealing Hillary’s delegates, and harassing them online.
  8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all by vowing to start making well-thought-out decisions and thinking before we act.
  9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
  10. Continued to take personal inventory, and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
  11. Sought through introspection and self-flagellation to improve our conscious contact with the real world - and vowed to feel more pain than we have caused the country to feel.
  12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to non-recovering obots, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

It’s so scary that someone like Obama could be elected.  But really, what has long hit me, is that the most frightening thing is that there are so many people in our country who are so…  well – capable of being obotted!

Ignorance….

  1. …sigh…

Sometimes the photos and words just have a mind of their own, and won’t stay where I put them!

  2. lorac:

Use a line before and after each picture and the text

type hr / with a doohickey before and after.

    Like this:

  3. That refinery only produces about 2% of the fuel consumed in California. That means gas will only go up about $1 gallon.

  4. FYI:

These are not last night’s winning lottery numbers:

    05 14 36 37 46 mega 24

  5. Thanks for posting the lyrics Lorac. I tried- really I did- to listen to it yesterday- even tried listening to the one DE posted- Just. Could. Not. force myself to listen to bad bad music. Nope. Can’t do it.
You have it exactly correct. Obama has not changed at all. Not one bit. Had they bothered to do their homework, or listen to those of us who did, they would have known in 08 what a cheating lying self obsessed thug they were selecting.

  6. I know from the people that I speak to, that many who sat in HRC’s camp are also the type of voter that we have in Texas called a “straight ticket” voter. I’ve seen them do this quite often, and it makes me sick. They are lazy imo.

We’ve had some of the most inept, corrupt politicians get revoted into office because of a “free” breakfast or ride. They always seem to have selective memory when it comes to what they have done in the past. So, I don’t mind sounding like a broken record when it comes to kicking criminal politicians in the knees. It’s almost as if my friends go into a trance like state when they arrive to vote.

Just call me mayhem when it comes to knee capping those with selective memory. No, I’m not mean about it either.

  7. @ Oswald

“special blend” of gas. We have that crap here too. Interesting thing is that the country next door doesn’t have it so we still get financially butt kicked by the EPA (cuz ya know air has no boundary). They said 30 cents + in a few days. That usually means $+ by the end of the week.

  8. It’s really kind of off-topic, but since I keep reading all kinds of happy claptrap everywhere about how Romney is going to beat Obama and blah blah blah, I don’t see it. I don’t see it because, except for the YOU DIDN”T BUILD THAT, which Obama HANDED to them, the GOP is doing nothing of real impact except that. If that’s enough, then he’s a winner. I don’t think it is. They are busy talking about things that don’t really resonate with normal people. I just don’t understand why they don’t pull quotes of Obama from four years ago and point out he has done everything to keep prices up on everything everywhere. I remember him saying that high prices on gas and energy will force people to use less. He’s done that. He’s got people freezing their effing asses in winter, humping to fill their tanks and worrying about the grocery bill. Just like he promised. I don’t see why they don’t point out that on January first, the democrats will be taking their lightbulbs that throw light for a buck away from them, and forcing them to use mercury-laden light bulbs that throw limp, putrid light, cause migraines, come with their own EPA hazmat cleanup page and cost $6. Why the hell don’t they just say, we will get this reversed before you all go blind and your wallets are ripped off from purchasing bulbs that cost 5 cents made in China, for which you will pay $5.99 every single time you need light. You might laugh but these are things people can actually relate to. THere are tons of them in Obama’s closet that fell out the day he got elected. They just can’t get down to the level of the voters they really need to come out and vote. The people who were once comfortable and are now circling the drain, being nickled and dimed and dollared to death, bit by bit.

  9. They are busy talking about things that don’t really resonate with normal people.

So true Upps. I don’t know why the conversation is not being moved in this direction either. I presume (like AntKnee said) that is is because he is the presumptive nominee right now.

The average person needs to have some major recall promo done.

  10. Home depot is selling Phillips bulbs 12 for $3.99 40,60,or 100 watt.

  11. There are enough photos of Obama with his ass in the air bowing to people who want us dead……..enough to sink the Queen Mary. Use them you A Holes. The majority of America does NOT support goatfuckers. NO pollster has been able to change that data.

Show him telling Putin to wait till he’s re-elected so he can give what is really the USSR again a better grip.

  12. Phillips bulbs are shit. They blow up. They don’t work out of the package. Or they last a few hours. I had a go round with them and made them pay me back a few months ago. They are the worst of the light bulb world and they are all Home Depot carries. They think you will go away because it isn’t worth complaining. I won’t buy a Phillips bulb, and I only bought them last time because that’s all HD had. Never again. I have been burnt by phillips one too many times in my lifetime. I hunt down sylvania and have an attic full of incandescents, shoring up for the disgusting law that tells me I have to live with yellow light that requires special cleanup with they explode. You yourself almost had your house catch fire with those CFLs DE.

  13. C’mon Uppity. You know darn well that Obama’s energy failure is because of people like you that failed to maintain the proper tire pressure at all times. Truth be known, I didn’t either, so it’s my fault too.

    /s

  14. I remember when the filaments in light bulbs were significantly heavier and thus the bulbs didn’t die so quickly. Today you can’t even get them home safely half the time. It’s deliberate of course. Just like all the appliances are designed to croak now. The washing machines are shit, they lock up and you can’t even throw something in there while they are filling, they don’t last, and all of this is thanks to the far left and their stupid assinine ideas. Hot water heaters tripled in prices because some asshole dicked around with his hot water heater and didn’t know what he was doing, central air units costs are out of sight now too thanks to my party extermists, as IF they are so important they can actually control normal weather shifts. It’s all just breaking everyone. Making them poor. WHile our congress invests in the ripoffs.

Four more years of Barack Obama will mean no more middle class at all, poverty everywhere, more unemployment and more dependency on government just to eat. And that’s his goal. Any fool can see it. He promised it. There are videos everywhere of his intent. And the GOP is too busy checking out vaginas and thinking of their next pork project to realize they are not in touch any longer and not resonating in this campaign. Talking about trashing social security and medicare is not the path to endearment, for chrissakes. Calling a forced insurance an “entitlement” isn’t either. It’s all just another John McCain, only he can walk better and move faster, and looks better in clothes. WTF is wrong with these people. Where is the ad that tells people how many more people landed on food stamps under Barack Obama? How many jobs were ‘added’ vs how many were lost? The ad that says, do you wake up wondering if YOU are NEXT?

  15. August 1, 2008, lol Sophie.
Inflate your damed tires and everything will be fine.
    http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/obama-inflate-your-damned-tires-and-everything-will-be-fine/

  16. And you wonder why women run from the GOP? They ask for it. They are going to need women’s votes and this is what they promise more of.

“Plan for rape like you would a flat tire”.
    http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com/2011/05/27/rep-pete-degraff-r-religious-crackpot-plan-ahead-for-rape-like-you-would-a-flat-tire-get-rape-triple-a/

  17. I’m sorry gang, but this is a 2008 rerun and Obama will win. I hope I’m wrong.

  18. Why aren’t they using his words!

Don’t drive. Don’t eat. Freeze your butt off.

It’s all there, who and what this horrible man is, yet the GOP once again will dance around him beause he’s black.
An entire country is being sacrificed at the hands of GOP cowards. Romney called him a “Nice Guy”. He is NOT a nice guy. And there’s your tip off as to how this campaign will roll out. It’s late and he doesn’t even have a frigging VP pick.
    http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com/2008/05/19/obama-dont-drive-dont-eat-freeze-your-butt-off/

  19. Why doesn’t romney say he isn’t going to tell people what to eat, how warm or cold to keep their homes, for chrissakes! His own staff said he could grow orchids in his office. For thee nor for me! These are things Americans are just plain SICK of.

The GOP has better take stock and do it NOW.

  20. Screw thosr frigging light bulbs from hell. Not only do they not give off decent light and cost too damn much- they cause cancer.
Yes I am cranky. I see the political class doing nothing at all to help we, the people.
And I put my back in spasm. Thank God I have some Flexeril stashed. SCREW fall cleaning!

  21. I appreciate your very righteous rant and to some degree agree with you. Where we part ways is on the efficacy of the response from Romney.

I’ve noticed an immediate and effective response from the Romney camp within 24 hours after each shot OmamaKamp took at them. There are a few examples below, but may I remind you it is still August and nobody rolls anything out then. All the good stuff is saved for after Labor Day, when the MSM and pols think we’re finally paying attention….. Those examples:

For instance – the famous “Seamus on the roof of the car” story. That had been used against him since it happened (mid or early 80′s) and even though the facts are quite different than what most people were told to remember, it was still trotted out during THIS campaign once again.

Axelwhore tweeted a pic of the POTUS in the back of his limo with his arm around Bo, both of them looking out the opposite window. Very charming, really, seeing the back of both of their heads, the man’s arm around the shoulder of his best friend and companion. The caption read “How a dog lover treats their pet”. Within 24 hours, the Romney Rapid Response team tweeted the same picture with an audio link to Obama’s voice reading verbatim from his book, saying how dog tastes when you eat it. Their caption under the same picture was “In retrospect, a chilling photo”.

Seamus’s Summer Vacation immediately lost credibility, and I doubt it could ever be used again without a vision of Obama chomping down on one of Woofie’s tender thighs.

Just recently, Harry Reid quoted some insane ravings from his imaginary friend. Romney’s surrogates responded immediately with this ad:

I could list a few more, but I don’t want to bore anyone.

  22. Anthony I hope you are correct. I pray every dirty secret about Obama and his thugs comes flooding out starting around labor day and building to an overwhelming tsunami by Hallowe’en.
As Uppity points out- there is enough video of Obama and his own words to sink the Queen Mary. If Romney does not make use of it- then we will know for sure it is all a damn game to both sides and that we are well and truly alone.

  23. Love ya Ant Knee, but I was just waiting for someone to mention Reebus Preebus. The Romney camp is not Romney. I would be willing to bet that 90% of Americans don’t even know who reebus preebus is. They change leaders constantly in the GOP and he’s not running for President. It’s NOT effective IMO. It’s just some guy with a wierd name, as in who names his kid Reance, and it’s simply not going to resonate with the average guy. We make the mistake all the time of looking at things from our persepective, when we are not the norm when it comes to following elections. We keep on top of things, we are addicts. The VAST majority of the USA is not like us. Reebus Preeebus is meaningless to them. Even I can’t remember his name half the time. Thus, he’s reebus preebus to me.

We have to be realistic. What resonates with us does not resonate with most of America. Most of America isn’t looking at politics, they are looking at their own lives only. You know how this LOOKS to them It LOOKS like Romney can’t be bothered.

  24. Romney is going to stay on message: The economy, overhauling Obamacare, etc. His surrogates and VP are going to do the heavy lifting, just as Obama isn’t going to be seen getting his hands dirty when there’s always some crazy shitbag willing to exploit his own wife’s death and blame it on Romney even after proof that it was a pile of bullshit to begin with.

You all know how I feel about this coming election, and you all know I’m planning to vote for Romney, barring some FACTUAL evidence that would convince me not to.

I’m not going to bore anyone with the details of my choice, and I’m certainly not going to write a post about it because I’m respectful of Uppity’s readers, and so far I’ve seen no indication that a story about that would be well received.

What I AM going to say is that both of these men have records that they are running on. A simple comparison of their accomplishments was enough for me to make a choice. I’m not concerned that he’s (gasp) a Republican – especially after the way the Dems stuck it up our asses in 2008. At that moment, I felt completely betrayed but strangely liberated. I reminded myself that I had never been affiliated with either party even though I always voted for the Dem on the ticket. Now, they’ve become as shady as the GOP, so I’m on my own. I voted for McCain in 2008, and I’m voting for Romney in 2012. Both of them have shown themselves to be more trustworthy and capable than Obama. I don’t need any more than that.

  25. Romney’s dog and Obama’s dinner is a perfect example of what I am saying. That resonated because it’s basic and it’s simple and pet owners everywhere could relate to it. It isn’t happening enough. You didn’t build that is getting old fast. In the end, it’s meaningless to the average working, laid off, mortgage sinking, holding-down-two-jobs-for-half-of-what-I-used-to-make Americans. It’s meaningless to the guy who has to drive 40 miles two ways every day to work and sees his car eating up his family’s food money. It’s worthless to the average American who can’t afford their single pay health insurance and see no difference in ‘reform’ except that it costs them more while more peole enter this country and use the emergency room as their first checkup stop. It’s worthless to the people who see a loaf of bread cost four dollars and it’s worthless to people who can’t afford to heat their homes and eat concurrently. It’s worthless to the guy who gave up looking for a job but he was removed from the unemployment rolls by the government. It’s worthless to the formerly middle class people who are too ashamed to get food stamps. It’s worthless to most Americans when you think about it. They don’t see the connect even though it’s there. Because they are too busy trying to stay above water. Somebody needs to tell them WHY they have this struggle, show them they have a president who WANTS gas prices high, heating costs high, food costs high. Using his OWN words.

  26. Most of America isn’t looking at politics, they are looking at their own lives only.

And the Romney camp needs to get on that and start asking the old question- Are you better off than you were four years ago. They need to start harping on the ridiculous unemployment numbers, the lack of jobs, the extreme cost of gasoline (and use that clip over and over and over again of O being oh so very honest when he said energy prices would skyrocket)
There is an advantage I think in waiting a bit though. I can imagine just how different things would have been had the Rev Wright vids come out in late Oct 08. It was wasted because it came out too early. The media and their 24 hour news cycle crap feeds right in to our fellow citizens inability to pay attention for more than two days.
The country needs a kick in the ass- and obama’s own words should be enough to sink him if the R’s have the guts to use them.

  27. I don’t need any more than that.

But most of America wants to know other things. They want to know they can be safe, that things will get better not worse, that they aren’t going to sink the rest of the way under Romney. If they were watching as closely as you the poll numbers would have Obama tanking into low double digits. But the polls are not showing this. Instead they are showing 2008 numbers, because the majority of people aren’t even expectiing ‘trustworthy’ any longer. They think all politicians are crooks. What they want is to know that the crook in charge won’t tank them further.

  28. All I can say is wait. After the conventions, both sides will be able to use the war chest from their respective parties. That’s when all the shit is going to hit the fan.

I have to go to the doctor now, but I would love to come back and continue this discussion if you think its cool.

And I apologize if I’ve taken anything away from lorac’s excellent, excellent post about voter malaise, which has sparked this discussion.

    XO

    Outta here!

  29. I want to be wrong.

But I am not going to make the 2008 mistake of seeing what I want to see instead of what’s there.

  30. Oh hell Anthony, Off Topic is Us. We do it everyday. And besides I started it.

I ‘waited’ in 2008 and it never came. I want to be wrong.

  31. http://www.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/tight-national-race-freezes-electoral-college-map/

I always read sabato because I get the sense he is totally uninterested in politics and purely interested in analysis.

  32. Well you can expect me to pop in and out. Took a flexeril (thank god I had some left) and have a salon pas patch on the back. Just had husband bring the board and slide it under the mattress on the twin in the guest room. Here I be for the foreseeable future.
Please oh please the flexeril knocks me out and when I wake up the spasm has resolved itself.

  33. Ah jeez PMM, I hope you can get those spasms under control quick.

  34. I’m sorry gang, but this is a 2008 rerun and Obama will win. I hope I’m wrong.
I hope so too Upps. ;)

  35. Please oh please the flexeril knocks me out and when I wake up the spasm has resolved itself.
sending Prayers and good thoughts Mom. :)

  36. Wonderful post Lorac.like always :)

  37. Great post, Lorac! To me its fairly obvious that they are getting reabsorbed into the image of the empty suit because as you said: “If they truly accepted responsibility for their poor judgment and adolescent approach to making important decisions, they could walk away from the mural.” “You can get addicted to a certain kind of message.” They have, and they choose to stay with their illusion rather than face their truth and become empowered. They have no one to blame but themselves.

Obots Anonymous — ROTFLMFAO — please someone start a webpage (or facebook page) for this!!!!!!!! It could start like this: Are you addicted to Hopium? Here are the 12 steps we follow to free you from your obotted state, leaving you free to pursue your own thoughts, and ultimately empowering you to be a strong citizen undeterred by BS.

  38. Good post. Blogho shared this video on TCH yesterday, and I posted it around the internet, including John Smart’s new FB page. TCH also has a FB page. For those who want to join either, the links:

Hope the double link doesn’t send me to moderation oblivion….

  39. and so far I’ve seen no indication that a story about that would be well received.

Well, it might be vigorously debated, but you’re still entitled to your opinion. Odds are high that I personally won’t agree with your opinion but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about it anyway. I completely understand how people could arrive at a decision to vote for Romney and I would never attempt to bully someone out of their vote. On the other hand, I also cannot abide people giving Romney wonderful attributes that he does not possess simply because he is not Obama–same for rationalizing things that we would have slammed Bush or Obama for doing.

Anyone who reads here knows I have no love for either guy. I don’t think either one would make a good president. But one of them will win and either way, I need to come to terms with the unhappiness I will feel about having to wait through yet another four years hoping one of the two parties might give us someone worthy the next time around.

Romney has a slight edge at the possibility of being a better president than Obama IF he has a 60% or higher Dem Congress. Sadly, I don’t see any massive ground swell to make that happen. So IMHO, they will be exactly the same and we will end up with Eric Cantor’s budget and a weekly introductions of orifice-probing bills among other things that will make life suck for regular people.

The only thing that gives me any comfort is the long shot that the Mayans were right and that the winner in November will never see January. (Note to Uppity: it is my fantasy and I beg you not to ruin it for me.)

  40. I agree with the malaise. People feeling let down by Obama are probably more likely to just stay home than vote for Romney. If the Right is not energized to GOTV then Obama could squeak out a win.

  41. lol lola, occasionally the poor soul who has more than one link to share makes it to the forum before spam eats it. I never understood that, but hey, wordpress is free. lol.

I don’t myself participate in facebook due to my feelings about security, my allergy to cookies and web bugs, and definitely not since those two guys found ways to screw America once they went public. Little ingrates.

Anyways, as a blogger I am at a serious crossroads and it shows. I have a visceral reaction to these two candidates and I’m not good at hiding it. I have no idea where the majority of the regulars on this blog want to do with it or even whether i can go there if I do know. My heart’s just not in this and I do have to admit that staying home in November is my most likely option, although I am sure my Mother will reach down from the sky and smack me for it. I am just sick of holding my nose and voting. Whatever happens, I do hope that neither of these hijacked parties carry both the Oval Black Hole and both houses of congress, because the extremists in these parties are the most dangerous thing that has ever happened to America, barring none.

I am so moderate, my bones are breaking. I just can’t pretend I feel save with these two parties any longer. It’s a really crappy place to be but there you have it.

  42. I know imust. It so reminds me of Carter years. I do think Obama will win if the GOP doesn’t get more real. It all feels like 2008 to me in redux. Because I dislike them both, I feel I am being a bit more objective than I was in 2008. Meanwhile, I am at a crossroads here for sure. I am more tempted every day to write about ANYTHING except politics.

I think Anthony is recognizing that rah rah Romney won’t go over well with ME. To cheer for either one of these two horrid candidates is just more than I can take. Maybe that’s not fair to the rest of you.

  43. Same here Uppity. And here I am in PA- a swing not swing state. Will my vote count? Is it going to be close enough that I should vote to keep that fraud from a second term? If he looks to lose, do I vote D down ticket to keep the fundiegelicals in check? If o looks like winning, do I vote R to keep the libegelicals in check?
I get a headache just thinking about it all.
At this point, if I have to vote it will be R – not because I think Romney is all that and a cupcake too- but AGAINST O. But then I have to have a strategy for the downticket races.
    sigh

  44. I defer to the longtime hardcore regulars on this blog. What do you want? I want you all to think about this. I will do a post on it for tomorrow. Think about what you want, longtime commenters and lurkers. And I will give it to you.

Sadly, if Hillary were running, I would be writing three posts a day like the old days. I just don’t feel the love.

  45. Uppity, completely OT but…

Last week (or maybe the week before) I was poking around in some of your older posts lamenting the fact that I’d missed them because I didn’t hang out here back then. There’s a lot of good stuff in there! As it happens, there’s usually one or more occasions on any given day where you get to pull something from the archives because it’s prescient or just as relevant today.

Can I convince you to do a weekly post called From the Uppity Vault?

  46. Yes Sophie, I can do that if that is what people want. Or better yet, perhaps you can be a poster and pluck them, reprint them with a forward comment as to why it’s prescient. Would you like to do that?

  47. It wouldn’t be much work, sophie, mostly copy and paste from the editor, but probably more objective than if I pluck them.

  48. Sis I couldn’t agree more. I feel exactly the same way. I. too, would get a huge slap from above if I don’t vote. I envision myself at the voting booth, frozen, not being able to create a hanging chad. The choice of these two candidates is like asking someone if they would rather be shot or stabbed.

  49. I would give it a try, Uppity, and see if I have the kind of discipline required. The thing is–I don’t really have a sense of the full inventory and when I “went in,” I got lost in there for hours!

  50. I also cannot abide people giving Romney wonderful attributes that he does not possess simply because he is not Obama

Point taken, and I hope I didn’t give you that impression. I made my decision to vote for Romney based on what he was able to accomplish legislatively as a Republican Governor in MA, which is more liberal than any other blue state. That shows true bi-partisanship, and with that ability to compromise, everybody wins. I am also impressed (like Bill Clinton is ) with his tenure at Bain Capital and a 80something percent success ratio.

My remark about it “not being received well” was meant more out of respect for the sentiments I’ve observed here rather than concern about debate. I just don’t want to write something that is not going to be interesting to this particular population.

I respect everyone here, and I LOVE that we can debate as vigorously as we do and still show respect for different opinions. That’s why in my first post, I called this a Great Good Place!

  51. And we wonder what’s wrong with the world today……….
    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/xbox-marathon-boy-collapse-150928818.html

A 15-year-old Ohio boy collapsed after a four-day Xbox marathon, his parents say.
The boy was holed up in his bedroom for the majority of the weekend playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, a “first-person shooter” game.
According to NBC’s Columbus affiliate, the boy collapsed several times on Tuesday, hours after emerging from his room. He was hospitalized and treated for severe dehydration.

  52. After day one, why was the xbox still in his room? One should not need a child to collapse in order to realize ,duh, maybe we should set limits. And as much as people made fun of Tipper Gore and her music tirade, do parents buy this stuff for kids without knowing what is what. Parents need to be parents. And no, the government/schools/watch dog groups should not be doing this for them.

I have not yet made a decision on Romney. I will, once again, not vote for that useless piece of nothing formerly known as The One. If I lived in Virginia, rather than work here, my vote might make a difference. However, the probability that Maryland will not stick with O is infinitesimal.

  53. Go play outside.

  54. Alas I took your advice, DE. I went for a nice long walk with Der Nadel and asked her what SHE wanted, and she said she just wants some biscuits and a frizbee and a couple of “Good girl”s. She did what she always does and led me into two homes along the way to say hello to people who give her things like ham and fresh water and fawn all over her. She charmed any kids she saw along the way. She always puts things in their proper place for me and makes me smile. We could learn so much from cats and dogs. WHen I ask Joe what he wants, he says, I just wanna lie here okay? Mind scratching my chin? When you gonna make me some chicken livers? Clean this place up!

  55. I hate to say this, but I think we need to stop “protecting” minors who commit crimes. Their names should be revealed.
    http://gma.yahoo.com/boy-10-young-friends-beat-handicapped-immigrant-woman-145106756–abc-news-topstories.html

A 10-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with the assault. Two younger children who allegedly took part in the attack on the woman cannot be charged under Pennsylvania state law because they are uner age 10.
The boys broke into Minh Tran’s house and beat her with sticks, rocks, and items from the home, including a potted plant they threw at her face, according to Philadelphia police Lt. Harold Lloyd. Tran, 51, was found cowering in her backyard by neighbors after the attack.

  56. Keep weighing in folks. Let’s do it right here. Tell me what you want.

    I’ll give it to you.

(NES that is not an invitation, lol).

I’m open, just so long as this place doesn’t attract the junk yard dogs I have already gotten rid of. There are more of them. And so long as it doesn’t erode into a place of snipers and name callers and people who threaten others into shutting up. Any of this happens, and I start vacuuming up the place, you know that. ALways remember this place is a respite from shit like that and it will never be tolerated. You got a personal gripe with somebody? I don’t give a rat’s ass where you take it, just don’t bring it here.

So far, I am going to open up Sophie’s membership to contributor so she can do her thing once a week. Sophie, pick a day, any day. It’s going to be fun to see what you pick. There are only a couple of thousand of those posts. lolol. And have fun!

Next time you login you will notice some privileges, sniff around the dashboard and see your rewards.

  57. imust I have long felt that with these horrible violent offenders. They should also all be tried as adults. We have some real psychos that age. Time to stop giving them chances. Those ten year old and younger bastards deserve the worst we can give them. The world is not a better place with them in it. This is bullshit. If they are mean enough to do this they are already dangerous to society. Too bad that poor woman didn’t have a dog to rip the little shits to shreds.

as for the nutcase who collapsed, it’s easy to see why he’s a nutcase. His parents let him hole up in his room playing violent games. Apple, meet tree.

  58. Stone, honey!!!! Good to see you!

  59. Uppity, I’m unclear on what you are asking for input on. Are you asking if you should do any more political posts? Or posts on Romney? Or Romney vs Obama?

  60. Oh and if anybody wants to do any guest posts, just ask.

Do you want Anthony to write Romney posts? Yes or no.

  61. Oh, yes. I like Anthony’s posts. He’s very thoughtful and respectful and I think he will do a well-researched, balanced job.

  62. I’d vote for Ann’s horse though.

  63. Trojan is handing out $30 for free in NYC off hot dog carts. The picture of two clean cut girls made me laugh. The video is funny too. The news duo had fun with it. Do they come in purple?

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2012/08/condom-maker-passes-out-10000-vibrators-on-streets/

  64. 10,000 vibrators must sound like bees swarming!

  65. Would be hard to hear over the moaning.

  66. Bees. ROFL!

  67. upps, on that old thread about the tire pressure there is a post from a person I’m sure you remember well before you told him to take a hike. The initials are PL (I don’t want to print out the name in case the person looks for references to himself) and I clicked on his website to see if he is still doing the insane videos he used to bombard us with. (No Q too till Larry told him off as well.) His current website is totally nuts. Lots of gun stuff. Spooky and creepy back then and even moreso now.

  68. One reason bandied about for Romney not going for the jugular yet is that he isn’t even the official candidate yet. They say he will show some teeth and they will attack after the convention. I don’t know if it will be too little too late or if it will have more of an impact if he saves the barracuda lines for debates. It might be more effective to see mild mannered Mitt go from Clark Kent to ballsy Superman.

  69. Yeah same story as 2008, and that’s the truth. We thought they would go for the jugular and instead they gave him pass after pass and looked like idiots. It was so bad it was embarrassing.

  70. Oh yeah that other nutcase. lol.

  71. I enjoy watching all the people I dumped crapping all over other people’s blogs. I can almost predict with 100 percent accuracy where they are going to land lol.

  72. Sophie, I wish I could have a bumper sticker made that says “Mayan’s 2012″ and looks like a typical political red, white and blue sticker.

  73. The Mayan’s will save us from Obama.

  74. I wonder if it is his second term that they saw was the end of the world.

  75. Hahaha you’re on a roll, DE.

  76. Yet another crock of religious mumbo jumbo shit.

  77. Uppityites, Sophie is now an official contributor and is going to be posting Prescient and interesting past posts.

  78. Yea Sophie!!!

  79. Read about us Hillaryites and let Obama weep.
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/08/05/can_obama_keep_clinton_dems_in_2012_115006.html

And I Do wish they would stop with the we are “flyover people’ shit. It’s bullshit.

  80. I stole this from Oswald at TCH

  81. imust said “This woman is voting for Obama “period”!”

    LOL!

Hooray for Sophie and assistant TL.

  82. Yeah. Hillary WON the primary in California. It was the caucuses of states like Utah, Kansas….and Iowa that help give us Obama! Also, ftr, I’m not a Reagan Democrat either.

This is exactly where I am and have been, Anthony. I’m a social liberal and fiscal conservative at the end of every day, and as far as I’m concerned, we’ve made ample progress in the social arena. Are we done yet? No, but financial security is a human rights issue too, and right now and for over 2 years my butt has been flapping in the wind. I’m taken almost right back to where I started, which is having to eat pancakes the day before payday twice a month. And having to feed my kid that. I have to save money to buy BLEACH, for crying out loud. This is serious. We need to be liberated from this economy, IMHO. Romney can do that, and he doesn’t scare me on social issues in the slightest.

I have all the reproductive freedom I need. What I don’t have is fair pay or a fair shot at opportunity, and Democrats have not delivered on either of those things for women in some time, never on equal pay, quite frankly. I limited my children, but for what? So I could work part time without benefits, even though I have a bachelor’s degree? I think it’s time to balance the needs of this country. Maybe when the Obamacrats (and there’s a distinction to be made between traditional Dems and Obamacrats, IMO) of today have hit bottom, maybe then we can get back to being on the same page. The only way that happens is serious disempowerment at the national level. So they’re disappointed; it’s not enough to make them change their behavior, and that’s ultimately the problem. Lorac hit the nail on the head with that one. This is not the party I grew up with and voted for 20 years. My 2 cents, hope you good folks don’t mind.

  84. Of course we don’t mind, Lola. I’m a fiscal conservative and Democratic moderate with a left lean on women’s rights. A HUGE left lean. I believe in the death penalty for chrissakes, I don’t want these left cliff quacks in my party any longer, I want them to go back to their failure fringe parties and stop hijacking my party… and ditto for the right wing religious crackpots who hijacked the other party. I want some SENSE in my government.

  85. What Anthony, Lola and Upps said.

In 2008 after obama put up his styrofoam columns and possum seal, I was dragging my feet about McCain. I got madder than a hornet at the obama campaign and ended up with Lady Lynn in Scranton and Wilkes Barre at the Dems for McCain office that she bequeathed. (Harriet Christian came in with bus loads of New Yorkers for a day too to knock on doors for McCain too.)

Surely obama will piss me off between now and November and make me enthusiastic for Romney!

  86. I used to call myself a Fiscal Conservative but I don’t know what it means anymore. I certainly would not call starting two wars on our Chinese credit card “fiscally conservative.” I would never call Eric Cantor’s budget sane, so if that’s fiscally conservative, I’m not. As far as I’m concerned, austerity is not a winning proposition.

I am for the responsible use of money and I’m not getting that from either guy. This election has nothing to do with who is the next president–the best hope is down-ticket.

  87. Remember Cockroach award winner Lawrence clement? The guy who worked for the funeral home and molested a dead woman?
    http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com/2012/03/20/cockroach-of-the-week-award-goes-to-scumball-lawrence-clement/

Well he got sentenced today. Want to know for how long? One year.

    http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Ohio-judge-sentences-man-in-corpse-abuse-case-3771817.php
    There is no justice.

  88. One year?! I am completely disgusted.

  89. Your definition and rejections are exactly correct, Sophie.

  90. Justice may still be served. “I got your soap right here”

  91. Wow. Hi Upps & Co. That is huge that they did a parody of that song and used the symbolism of the poster they all got a s a free download. The lyrics they used make an incredible statement. Here is the orig song by Gotye. It’s about the breakup of a relationship? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY

  92. What if that corpse were male…do we even need to ask what would have happened?

  93. P.S. I think those addicted to Obama need more than 12 steps…although I love this post!

  94. several of you note the threat from Mothers in the hereafter who can still kick your asses into the voting booth: plenty of wise (Italian) mothers have driven elections by “advising” family members to and how to vote. They’ve sat out the last few letting the brats make their own beds. But we all know organized crime when we see it, and in our Country’s Government, we see it. The Republicans had the fear of the People kicked into them by the Tea Party who, while extreme, are the “limits” the Rove/Cheyney/Rumsfeld NeoCons need to learn. Romney is NOT an establishment Republican. Rove is not an advisor to his campaign, merely a cheerleader. Romney came in to save the Olympics because the criminal element had FUBAR’d it and he had the gravitas AND THE PATRIOTISM to turn it around. I personally have had my ass kicked all over the East Coast from job after job by hackers like Raum Emmanuel who expedite their climb up the ladder by eliminating me. We’ve seen that Obama is competition averse: he ELIMINATES his competition. Romney grasps the reigns, steers the ship and knows how to handle dogs, respects Women, is a Master of not a slave to money. Ceasar Millan pointed out that outside the USA, everybody could recognize how weak Obama is by the way BO controlled him, A DOG! When the campaign reaches October, we will compare the two side-by-side in the debates where the Full-of-Himself Obama will have only his slipshod, half-assed college crowd to do his research for him. Against legitimate, accomplished competition in the debates he will be exposed, just as he was by Hillary. PS: Let’s wait and see what Bill has to say in Charlotte, and why is Hillary letting herself be tagged with the 2nd Amendment claims about her signing a UN Treaty limiting the right to own guns? The Clintons are doing what the shallow Obats always feared. I believe Dick Morris when he says Bill Clinton will be voting for Romney. The stitching is done, now all that remains is the pressure on the string to form the ruffles and flourish.

  95. Lorac, I enjoyed your post!

Uppity, I would like to read more posts of Anthony weighing in on Romney. Like many of you, I am a conservative on fiscal issues and moderate plus on social issues.

Sophie, great news that you will be contributing Uppity’s posts in archives!

  96. The Republican party needs to get rid of people like Rush Limbag.

  97. Sophie, I wish I could have a bumper sticker made that says “Mayan’s 2012″ and looks like a typical political red, white and blue sticker.

Karen – From your lips, etc

    GO MAYANS!

  98. Very cute, Anthony.

  99. Not the right colors, but…
    2012

  100. Hi Valentine. Sorry you landed in WP hell, I just fished ya out, girl.

  101. Well yeah MB, if it had been a male corpse that would have been serious.

  102. Oh please I have a whole directory on that blowass Limbaugh.

  103. Oh shit, are we gonna have another rapture? I mean because I’m tired of sitting around waiting to be yanked out of my shoes in the twinkling of an eye, ya know?

  104. UW: If you would have packed and prepared the first time they announced one, you’d have been ready for all the rest, including this one.

  105. Okay thats two votes for Anthony’s Romney posts. Come on gang. Yes or no FCS

  106. My vote was yes, albeit implied in one of my comments.

  107. Geez — I have this thing stuck on my computer that I can’t get off. I have tried everything…

    Lily

  108. Bahahaha Lily!

  109. I counted you Sophie.

  110. Sophie, I WAS packed and prepared for the last two. I even live blogged it. Nada.

  111. The perfect poster about Obama:

    http://despair.com/incompetence.html

  112. UW: I do recall…hmmm…maybe you’re one of the ones that’s supposed to see neatly folded piles of our clothing where we once stood.

  113. Tony–I have to disagree…I have yet to see Obama double his efforts!

  114. Sophie-Oh he will, once he’s in his second term and has no one to answer to, at least that’s what he told the Russkies.

  115. Oh, right, Tony. I forgot, we have to re-elect him to see what’s in him.

  116. SophieCT – what’s the issue? She’s being protective of you – she saw the laptop mouse and sat on it to keep you safe! lol

  117. Well, my plan is to vote for Romney, because I want O out, and I really fear what he might do (or not do) in a second term. Of course, I live in CA, so my vote won’t count anyway.

As far as Anthony and Romney posts, it wouldn’t bother me. Perhaps I’m just projecting, but I don’t get the feeling that anyone here is in love with Ronney

  118. Awwwwwww. She is so precious. And clearly she is aware of that.

  119. lorac, Yeah, that must be it. My shero!

  120. By the way, lorac, I have been having resentful feelings about those people in the video ever since I first saw it. They were the ones that messed up 2008 and they still don’t have the sense to realize they were had. Hoodwinked. Bamboozled. Nope, they are still hoping they can change Barky back to the Barky they knew. They have no idea how they were played and Effed up the historical trajectory in the worst way. We could be enjoying the best president evah.

  121. Anthony should say what he thinks and the rest of us will do likewise.

  122. k 3 votes For
    0 votes against mittens posts.

  123. grrr
I don’t get the feeling that anyone is in love with Romney – they’re just trying to figure out the best of our choices. And I don’t personally really see 3rd party as a choice, because other than sending a momentary message, it will have no actual effect on the election or our lives.

I guess I just don”t see Romney as a huge threat. He’s not the ideal candidate I would create, but when will we EVER have a choice like that? We did have that, and it was stolen from us. So, I don’t have any urge to sit home just because neither choice is great, because I think that’s a very rare occurence that we have one, let alone two good choice(s). I’d never get to vote lol

If I felt like someone was trying to turn me into a republican, I wouldn’t loike that. But I don’t think that would be the case here.

And, speaking as an agnostic, I feel pretty comfortable with Romney’s Mormonism. Unless he’s a really good hider of some terrible stuff, I think maybe religion for him is a personal thing – I don’t feel that he is going to subject us to it, proselytize, etc, or do any really weird things. Of course, I could be wrong – I just don’t see any red flags. Maybe he wears some “special” long underwear – I don’t care. That’s far milder than what some people in other religions do lol And I don’t get the feeling he’s some far right republican.

Mostly I get the feeling that he is hardworking and competent. And I really want that. So, I’m not in love with him, not excited about him. I want some boring competence to lead us out of the economic darkness.

  124. Karen: she so knows that she’s cute! And she’s got like a dozen Uppity Godmothers so she knows no fear!

  125. I want to bite her!

  126. Anthony – every post turns into an open thread. Matter of fact, whenever I write a post and I come home from work to see lots of comments, I know someone must have brought up the subject of food lol

  127. From the article about the age 10 and younger hoodlums who beat up the Vietnamese lady, a ray of hope:

The 10-year-old boy was taken into custody after his mother called police to turn him in.

  128. Yea well his mother is probably afraid of the little psycho.

  129. Hey! Food holds us together!

  130. 11. Sought through introspection and self-flagellation to improve our conscious contact with the real world – and vowed to feel more pain than we have caused the country to feel.

lorac, I really like this one. Maybe I can design a cat-o-nine tails with Hillary’s face on the handle. Make them never forget.

  131. Oh, I forgot one more reason I wouldn’t be bothered by a pro-Romney post that wasn’t trying to turn me into a republican – because if Romney wins, then the “normal” left will start speaking up again about our real principles and calling out atrocities – something obots refuse to do with their president who has continued many of Bush’s policies. 4 more years of Obama means 4 more years of many republican policies – so why not have a moderate republican and leftists who speak out against anything too far right?! :)

  132. Anthony – the self-flagellation reminded me of that Albino guy in the movie with Tom Hanks who kept whipping his own back and legs – a Hillary face on the handle would fit in just fine!

  133. Lorac,

But I think for most, a shared underlying reason was that the speeches someone was writing for him to read off his teleprompters made them feel good about themselves. Yes, by him tooting his own narcissistic, non-reality-based horn, they thought they themselves were special

Right your are, lorac! Hopeychangey has always been about stroking the innards of those who have not and/or will not, pay attention to the real problems and their complex etiologies that have this country in dire strits.

It is too hard to think and analyze. Therefore, let someone else paint a wishful picture and dole out colorful prose. It’s a lot easier to swallow that which comes off a teleprompter from a speechwriter,

  134. that Albino guy in the movie with Tom Hanks

   Thats EXACTLY who I was thinking of when I read that in your post! omg, this is getting sick….

  135. I want to bite her!

And she wants to bite you too! This is one of the biting-est kitties I’ve ever had. She always wants to fight. My two big girls just back off (scoff and hiss while they’re at it), but generally don’t engage (unless they’re ambushed). When they won’t play, she tries to get me to play.

  136. She’s probably teething Sophie. I know you know you have to let her know you don’t like it so she doesn’t do it when she’s older. Little snot.

  137. No probs. It was really interesting about that song. Hugs.

  138. lorac @ 11:59, good point!

  139. Looking forward to Sophies posts. Also, will be happy to read anything of Anthony’s, even abt Romney. Does anyone think that if Romney wins, Hillary will run in 16? Is that just a pipe dream?

  140. ott, & not to be persnickety, by I disagree w/ the timeline on your sidebar :”..Using women, gays, lesbians, and seniors as bargaining chips since 2009″ I think Obama’s been exploiting people since he could walk & talk.

  141. ott yet again, when did dead enders become a private blog & why? I missed the soap opera drama.

  142. ott one last time & the original reason I came hear but got sidetracked & forgot, allegeldy your favorite Kennedy (caroline) now feels the same way about Obama that I’ve always felt:

    http://clashdaily.com/2012/08/caroline-kennedy-i-cant-stand-to-hear-obamas-voice/

  143. ok, absolutely last ott post, promise, seriously, but I mirror your feeling concerning Romney, but still view him as lesser of 2 evils, as per:

“OK, Romney is a murdering tax cheat bully wimp weird Mormon billionaire who straps dogs to the top of his car. He’s still an improvement.”

  144. Adagio, caroline is pissed because she actually thought he would keep his promise and help make her a Senator in exchange for shamefully pimping her father’s name in connection to a huckster. Instead he stood by and watched her skewered. Boo Effing Hoo, Caroline. If you think you got screwed, try imagining the millions of people you helped screw by pretending Barack Obama was worth attaching your father’s name to. You were better off when you kept a low profile, Caroline…considering people could still envision the cute little girl on the horsey without being exposed to the wincingly awful reality that you are really a dumbo who can’t string a sentence together with a wire.

Deadenders didn’t have the time for the blog any longer. His kiln videos are exciting though.

While it’s probably true Obama has been using anything that inhales and exhales most of his life, never has he had the power to screw so many so badly.

  145. LOL On Tiger Lily. Is she looking for her other moms? She KNOWS we’re in here somewhere.
Count me in for having more Anthony posts.

  146. They must have rubbed Mayor Bloomberg the wrong way.

Pleasure seekers told to buzz off.

    Oh, these writers are gooooooooooooooood.

    Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/city_kos_good_vibrations_Rtc8Up7hrIGqlC63E3J1fK#ixzz2336aC7aj

  147. Yep, they refuses to stroke his ego.

  148. Woot Sophie. Warning, Lily is gonna help you write some posts.

  149. Absolutely count me in for AntKnee posts as well.

  150. Mostly I get the feeling that he is hardworking and competent. And I really want that. So, I’m not in love with him, not excited about him. I want some boring competence to lead us out of the economic darkness.

    JOIN!

Also, KILLER post, lorac. (FF tweeted it to the Romneys.)

  151. Yessssssss for Anthony posts!

  152. Yeah LOLA is here!

  153. Yeah SophieCT!

  154. Ok, I’ll say it. At the risk of being a stick in the mud, I completely fail to see the relevance of the singer in the post video being naked —other than he just wanted to be naked and show somebody a little of what “they can’t have”.. I think it took away from a very real message and overshadowed it in places with a sexual message.

  155. The video is awesome!

  156. Northeir (daniel), this winter when I am bitching and moaning about the snow, I will remember that you are indeed Northier than I.

  157. Need a bumper sticker: Staying Home 2012

  158. Just keep on preaching, please. Please!!!
