Geithner is a thief? I’m shocked! Shocked I tell you!

Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) — The Federal Reserve Bank of New York then led by Timothy Geithner, told American International Group Inc. to withhold details from the public about the bailed-out insurer’s payments to banks during the depths of the financial crisis, e-mails between the company and its regulator show.

No! Say it isn’t so! The man who is the “Perfect person for the job” did this?

AIG said in a draft of a regulatory filing that the insurer paid banks, which included Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Societe Generale SA, 100 cents on the dollar for credit-default swaps they bought from the firm. The New York Fed crossed out the reference, according to the e-mails, and AIG excluded the language when the filing was made public on Dec. 24, 2008. The e-mails were obtained by Representative Darrell Issa, ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.mpany and its regulator show.

No! This sweet man couldn’t possibly have a part in this!

“It appears that the New York Fed deliberately pressured AIG to restrict and delay the disclosure of important information,” said Issa, a California Republican. Taxpayers “deserve full and complete disclosure under our nation’s securities laws, not the withholding of politically inconvenient information.”

Gasp! Lies! Time Geithner doesn’t know a thing abou this! Just like he didn’t know a thing about Turbo Tax.

“Secretary Geithner played no role in these decisions,” Meg Reilly, a Treasury spokeswoman, said in an e-mail. “He was recused from working on issues involving specific companies, including AIG,” after his nomination for Treasury secretary on Nov. 24, 2008. Geithner “began to insulate himself weeks earlier in anticipation of his nomination,” she said in a separate statement.

See? I told you he’s innocent. His spokesperson Meg Reilly says so. So it must be so.

  1. Robert Gibbs said so too. In his Press Briefing. Yesterday. I saw it with my own eyes. In fact, he became quite testy about it. Said Geithner’s name was not on the emails, so he didn’t have a thing to do with it. It’s worth finding.

  2. Oh yeah, FF, he was just in charge of the NY Fed, so how could have possibly have anything to do with the NY Fed doing this?

    Cough.

  3. When pressed about the ‘alleged’ THOUSANDS of emails related to this robbery and fraud, Gibbs got insolent at any implications by REPORTERS who were asking, and then dismissed them in his usual style.

  4. FF Gibbs is doing more damage to Obama than he could ever do to himself. He is truly pissing off the press. I have been trolling CNN and they are not in a good Obama mood. I saw it as a dirty job to even watch them, but somebody has to do it. They are turning on Obama, so Gibbs had better cut this smug crap. He is typical of the emotional adolescents in the white house and the adults are getting tired of it. I didn’t even try with MSNBC, but it looks like they are standing alone right now.

  5. Well- when Gibbs summarily dismisses Geithner’s involvement with a declarative statement “Secretary Geithner had nothing to do with this” (or something like that….) he is sure setting himself up.

I have been tuning in to CNN more too, and alI have seen is blather. I get stupefied and change the channel.

  6. Yep someone in the press corp needs to tell Gibbys to cut the condescending, self righteous, demeaning bullshit and start telling the truth.

  7. Gibbs was the slovenly kid standing on the corner, his shirt hanging out and snot running down his nose. They made fun of him. He swore to grow up to exact revenge. I see the same in Newt and Rush. Gibbs is a snotty child who never grew up. He’s got the break of his life and now he imagines he can compensate for his otherwise unpleasant appearance by acting like an elite. He’s an infant, reliving his childhood and everybody around him is a subject of disdain to him. He’s a real study, that one. I predict his envelope-pushing will be his end. He’s really pissing off the press and everyone who isn’t just like him watching his snotty press conferances day in and day out.

  8. Hey FF are you ready for tonight?
We have to install vinyl graphics outdoors on a customers trucks tomorrow in the AM it’s gonna suck big time.

  9. I always laugh when I see Gibbs get cornered and he says, “I didn’t see that e-mail”. He’s such an ass. I wonder how much longer he’ll last on that job.

  10. He has no worries about his job Nunly he is the prefect mouth piece for oilsoc.

  11. DE when the press starts escalating, Gibbs’s is going to have rug burn when they drag his ass off the camera permanently. He’s going to take the fall.

Burton is an even bigger idiot. Do you remember when Megan Kelly spit him out? Oh i gotta find that video…

Got it. Look at thsi crooked mouthed sweating snot.

  12. Yes they all need a silkwood shower. But firing the messenger doesn’t change the message. He’s just saying what he’s being told to say. If they do fire him they will put an AA into the position so he can fall into the racism protection club.

  13. Gibbs…

  14. I guess “he began to insulate himself”, is the new, “I was out of the loop” in the Washington crowd. As for Gibbsy, his arrogant dismissals of questions and or reporters he doesn’t like make my blood boil. I just want to wipe the smug smirk right off his face.

  15. Giblet continues to chip away at the patience of the press corp and those who follow his nonsensical presentations. He is paid to do this after all. After he is taken to the pillory and pelted, and then put out to pasture, he will still be babbling to protect his kindred of ilk.

  16. Timmy Head of NY Fed obviously could not have been managing his store AT ALL, if those emails show the children were running amok without him. The very thought…

  17. On a very sad note, the man who made Gumby, Art Clokey, has died. 😦

  18. Gibbys is an ass. Yes, he was the kid in the corner who mumbled to himself (and twisted his pencil in the sharpener a bit too long in order to look down the teacher’s dress jmo).

He is having so much fun now. Really stupid on his part, these people come and go. He is expendable and that grin will turn into a frown when they begin throwing rocks at him. That evil little Bill Burton will follow suit as well.

  19. and throw rocks they will..the fickle media

  20. Megyn Kelly rocks! She is one smart lady. She is no one’s fool and takes no crap off anyone. She earns my respect over and over.

  21. Gee, who would a thought some overpaid, under-worked man who cheats massively on his legally-owed Federal Income Taxes would steal?

    We would!

  22. Timmy was in charge of the NY Fed, it’s as simple as that. If something this big went on without his knowledge then he should be fired for that……but he’s a crook along with the rest of them. The whole thing was probably his idea. If he did know he was up for Treasury Secretary why would he “insulate” himself……exactly why would he need to “insulate” himself. That in and of itself implies guilt.

  23. UGH Bill Burton what a laugh….. The house of cards are falling from Gibbs, Burton, Ried, Dodd and the rest.
Nothing like eating your own. Hows that “Hope & Change” working out for them??

  24. and Geithner, must be the one giving them all lessons.

  25. I make FIRE!
