Time Warner shows Playboy porn channel for two hours on Kids On Demand Preschool channel

This is like an episode of That’s Incredible. But then, as a customer of Time Warner, I can honestly say I am not surprised at their bad taste, lack of interest and downright shabbiness.

Some North Carolina toddlers whose parents subscribe to Time Warner Cable television got a surprise recently when they tuned in to the Kids On Demand Preschool channels. Instead of promos for SpongeBob SquarePants, they saw nude women from the Playboy Channel dishing dirt about sex.

Mommy, does Big Bird have boobies too?

Apparently, Time Warner just didn’t want to be outdone by that other bastion of Customer DisSatisfaction, Comcast.

This was not, sadly, a singular event. In 2007, Comcast broadcast porn to kids in New Jersey who had tuned in the Disney Network.

But of course, TW apologized. All of us are accustomed to their wooden apologies, which are usually followed up by no change or improvement.

In true Murphy’s law fashion, the glitch occurred from 6:15AM to 8:15AM – hours that many young children are watching TV unsupervised while parents are getting ready for work or just waking up.  ”We’re very, very sorry it happened – we know parents are concerned,” spokesman Keith Poston told local news station WRAL.

Gee, ya think, Keith?

It’s gets even more Time-Warner Stupid. The show kept going an hour after TW found out about it. While they worked on correcting the problem, they didn’t even have the good sense to shut the porn show down.

”It took about an hour or so once we were notified of the problem to actually get it fixed.  It was a technical glitch and unfortunately it hit at the worst possible time on the worst possible channels.

I’d like to say that I think this is about as low as Time Warner can go, but to be honest, I bet they can  trump even this in the future.

You can see some of what the preschoolers saw here.

  1. Uppity: Your closing statement is absolutely right on. I know Time-Warner from both vendor and customer perspectives. In fact I knew Warner Communications and Time, Inc. before they became Time-Warner and both had unsavory cultures. The merger simply brought dual-decadency together.

I’m not suggesting that T-W deliberately put porn on a kid’s channel but I know the company’s corporate indifference to customer and vendor problems permeates the whole outfit and I know that shit only runs downhill. Their problems didn’t start at the bottom.

  2. Yup Frank. They are pretty much the pits. They bought up a corporate training program company that was stellar. An outstanding company that turned to shit in six short months.

  3. Get off of her SPONGE BOB….you don’t know where she’s been.

  4. LOL, too funny, DE!

  5. right on Upp..

  6. I hate Time Warner. They doubled my Dad’s cable bill after only 1 year. I called them & tried to get them to bring the bill back down & they refused, a elderly WW2 vet in an assisted living home, they want to gouge. Despicable.

Uppity, thanks for the weekend posts! 🙂
