looks like he might lose Florida in the next election…lolol…
I forced myself into a self imposed sabbatical due to the depression that it caused from keeping up on current events. The Gulf spill just added to my already broiling funk so I turned off the computer for long spells, avoided the news and talk shows, and just gave my brain a rest.
But little has changed on the current landscape. No one in the role of “authority” is doing much to ease the plight of the nation who suffers from lack of employment, an economical disaster whose long term results are still unknown, a political landscape crowded with morons who wish to insert “god’s will” into the dialogue, a group of pols playing “gotcha” with the lives of those who they were sent to represent, and a president who is incapable of leading.
Where he was only 2 years ago compared to the heroics of FDR and Lincoln, who was touted as the new face of leadership owing to his biracial background, who was given a Noble Prize for absolutely nothing but a “fingers crossed” meme, who has failed to insist on accountability from the 2% who take advantage of us on a daily basis, and who was elected to cure the ills that were incurred by the dubious antics of the previous administration, he merely plays at the role as the rest of us attempt to just maintain.
The malaise that we are presently feeling is due in a large part to the failure of this man to take on the “heavy lifting” needed to keep this nation from becoming another third world country where the oligarchy reign supreme and we scramble to live under those rules.
Withholding unemployment benefits from people who are unable to find work due to the policies of the last 10 years is the latest abomination to come out of DC in ages. The suffering of the people should be first and foremost on this idiot’s agenda but from where I sit he has no more interest in setting it to rights than Lindsay Lohan does in clearing her head.
Sad.
Pat Johnson, we’ve missed you and your pithy commentary. I hope you’re back for awhile..
Thanks, HT. But it is redundant to keep saying how bad things are with no end in sight. As far as I am concerned, there are only a handful of people in elected positions who truly give a damn. The rest are either in the thrall of corporate interests or on a determined path to block anything that may serve the common good in the quest to regain power.
For the few who actually are there to serve, it must be as frustrating as what I feel having to go up against “nitwits” carrying their own agenda without regard to the populace at large.
But I have managed to catch up on my reading, gardening and my housework. And I have yet to resort to wearing a wig from pulling my hair out by the handful watching this parade of morons lurch across the landscape and calling themselves public servants.
Pat, there are no public servants anymore. They are all in it for the moolah. However we need everyone we can get to amalgamate and try to make a difference. You are a much needed voice, as are Uppity and all the Uppityvillagers. We don’t speak from the same ideology, but we respect one another. Please think about staying around.

Pat glad to see that you are writing again. I will send you the strawberries.

{{PAT}} I was asking after you a week or so ago. I sympathize with your self-imposed internet exile. However, I find it helps immensely to come here and know I have not lost my mind and that I am not alone. These days I turn on only the local news to catch the weather forecast- and they are not very good even at that. As far as “news” goes- well- I click to the BBC from here and the other Uppityites keep me informed.
FF asked on another thread- “What do we DO?”
The same things we have been doing since the 08- educate as many voters as we can. Speak truth to madness. Try to empower ourselves and others.
And keep your victory garden going and stock up the pantry in case of the worst case scenario. And for those of us who are believers in a higher power- PRAY!
Never give up, never give in, don’t let the bastards win without at least putting up the fight we can.
Pat, it sure helps to speak our minds even though it surely has been a very long time of ranting and raving and feeling awful about the situations we’ve watched.
The Guld was the point I hit overload, too. I skipped reading and watching the video on the last three threads. I avoid pictures, stories, news items, etc. on the subject. I just totally lose it when I see the death and suffering of animals. I know it is happening every minute of the day for months now and will continue for God knows how long and that they are doing little to stop the slaughter. It just tears me up inside deeply.
The plankton, the sand fleas, the jelly fish are all equal in importance to the whales. Without one the whole chain collapses. Without the swampy marshland wetlands there is no life.
We new nothing good would come from this man who gave many red flag warnings about who he really was as neon signs flashed not to trust him.
The obots were just too blind to see. Amazingly.
I think our senses can only take so much. It feels like we are on rudderless ship and the pirates (corporations) are climbing onboard without much resistance from those in the position of fighting back.
It is one thing to say “throw the bums out” but look at what is waiting in the wings to replace them. Another round of third stringers who are either fighting against equality or consumed with striking deals with the same sponsors who backed their opponents. You cannot listen to the crapola spewing out of the mouths of these people and not come away wanting to take a shower.
There is little to count on these days as integrity seems to have disappeared altogether and we have come to accept lies as truth.
I know, I am a Debbie Downer these days, but if I thought for a minute that there was someone, somewhere who truly understood what it takes to be a “voice of the people” and speak on behalf of the majority of us who are simply trying to do the best we can under the circumstances, I would feel a little lighter in the depression department. But so far I am unable to see or hear anyone whose primary function is to adhere to the Constitution, serve the public to the best of their ability, and has a desire to just do the right thing.
If someone is aware of that person please clue me in. My local taxes are rising due to the ineptness of the past and current administrations whose sole aim is to win elections. Govern? Not so much.
Well, personally, I’m all for Uppity for President, however, she’d shoot me if I suggested it so forget I said anything.
People cope in different ways, and goodness knows, we all have a whole bunch of coping to do. Please do stay around Pat. We do have fun, and those of us who know you on the net have missed you.
Hi Upp…
I watched a few of his vids too. Very scary that bubbling? When you live at the ocean’s edge you can really tell if something is off — just like his vids. I think what they dumped in has mixed with the sea and the gas and made this huge reaction… you might want to read this?

The ‘Debbie Downer’ terms fits most of the American population these days. And there is a psychiatric category known as “depressive realism”, i.e., you feel depressed because reality is pretty much of a sh*t. We seem to be living under a psy-ops operation that is directed against American citizens, designed to divide, defeat and demoralize. I think PMM’s advice (above) to “never give up, never give in” is right on target and crucial to our recovery.

Is it true that the Senate is planning on passing a bil that will outlaw the growth and trading of food grown in our backyards, or is that doomsday nonsense? I got some email from one of my friends who is one of my favorite wingnuts and it claims that growing your own food in your own backyard will become criminal. Does anyone know?
AnneE- there are numerous bills before Congress trying to regulate food supply. Uppity is the expert here- but let’s just say that Monsanto is not our friend- they are trying to patent our food. I know not which bill it is- but yes it exists- sanitation standards, Monsanto owning the rights to the seeds etc etc etc
I picked up a video from this Greg person last night. It was right after or during high tide in Pensacola and the images were disgusting–just enormous swaths of scum and muck coming in with the surf. The fact that whatever images we’re getting are from independent sources [rather than the traditional media] goes a long way in boosting the belief that this is a concerted attempt at an info blackout. These suckers are hiding the damage, blocking news outlets and/or intimidating those journalists still interested in doing their jobs [far and few between, I realize].
Btw, Pat J., I did the same thing several months ago. I fashioned my own media blackout. I unplugged everything for a full month. Because the news was driving me crazy. And then I came back . Mental health days, weeks, months are important in this atmosphere.
And the bad news? It just keeps on coming.
Mom, I think it’s HR875, and yes Monsanto is a big backer.
Peggy Sue, yeah, every day brings one more outrage.
HT- thanks- I just went and ferreted it out- I was out with the new goat- getting new animals acclimated is time consuming- anyway- turns out there are THREE bills-
So AnneE- here yu go
As per HT the first is HR875 The Food Safety Modernization Act
Second is HR759 The Food and Drug Administration Globalization Act. (Don’t you just love the sound of it?? NOT!)
Third is HR1332 Safe Food Enforcement, Assessment, Standards, and Targeting Act of 2009 or the Safe FEAST Act of 2009
All supposedly aiming to protect us from the salmonella and e-coli the mega farms give away free with the lettuce, spinach, chicken etc oh and to prevent mass murder by peanut cross contamination.
Me? I think they are all so Monsanto can charge crazy money for the right to grow their genetically modified patented food and so the govt knows where to go to confiscate supplies (redistribute the wealth to lazy bastards.)
If we did not have mega farms things would be a lot more expensive- but we would not have the alarming incidents of fecal born bacteria in our food.
Uppity is going to teach me how to save seeds this year!
Mom, how’s the goat today – has he settled down?
As mentioned previously, my farmer friend is opening his roadside stand tomorrow, so I’ll be there buying good, fresh, locally grown produce – tomato and mushroom vinaigrette for lunch, whoo hoo.
Yes, Peggy Sue, the bad news just keeps on coming. I am at “sensory overload” myself and have given up watching the news. I still read the blogs so I stay informed, but truly this administration is beyond anything I’ve seen in the past. Even the last resident in the WH waived the Jones Act and belatedly took an interest in the Hurricane Katrina survivors. This one just wants a full media black out. And then there’s the economy and lack of jobs and the skyrocketing foreclosures. Few in Washington truly care as most are bought by the corporations. We are indeed living in a third world country.
So I guess no one watched The One campaigning in Missouri today? He was fired up and ready to go!!!!!
ObiOne was campaigning for Robin Carnahan……and what was Uppity saying about family dynasties?? Take a lookie at this family:
Carnahan’s father was posthumously elected to the Senate; he died in a plane crash during the campaign in 2000, leaving her mother to fill the seat for a few years. Her brother Russ is a U.S. representative from the St. Louis area. Blunt was Missouri’s secretary of state before being elected to Congress in 1997. His son Matt was recently the state’s governor.
Seems to me if you want to run for office in Missouri, your last name better be Carnahan.
or Blunt…
Buttered just did an unassisted drive by at deadenders. 8 comments in 8 minutes.
Whoa! That’s a comment a minute, is that a record?
HT- Miss Josie is settling in well- eating and drinking well. Two eggs today from the chickens- I was surprised- thought they would all suspend production for about a week.
Nice when the roadside stands open isn’t it? We had the first of the cucumbers today and looks like it won’t be long for tomatoes! The earliest are already starting to blush! I have to find my garden salt and pepper shakers- I eat them right there in the garden out of hand! Does your farmer friend grow his own mushrooms?
The deer and turkeys are getting most of the raspberries- but I get a handful every day for myself! LOL
imust- so that confirms our suspicion- dead people get elected just like they vote.
I heard a blurb that Rendell signed the budget- something about Murtha and Specter’s papers being enshrined.
ah yes- the lame duck Gov here in PA signed a budget that cuts funding for libraries- while at the same time approving a brand new library named after the almost dead party switching yahoo Specter.
Rendell also says this in defending the move
“Rendell defended the economic development project, saying the money is used to help energize a sluggish economy and create jobs.
“That’s one of the reasons we have a good economy,” Rendell said”
http://www.wgal.com/money/24163499/detail.html
WTF? Where is this good economy? Our county is at 10% unemployment and has been for a long long time.
Mom, glad that the hens are producing – it means they must be comfortable with you. I love my farmer – he and his wife have been coming in from the Niagara peninsula for the last 7 or 8 years, and I eagerly await their open for business sign. And yes, they do grow their own mushrooms.
Raspberries – now those I would fight the deer and turkeys for. I haven’t had fresh ones for too many years.
HT- the raspberries- red and black grow wild along the edges of the fields here- also blackberries- but they come in August. The black raspberries have been slow this year- normally have them for the 4th of July- by the basket full- still only coming in handfuls – and they wild critters are getting them before me. Oh well- keeps them out of the garden I suppose.
Hot as blazes here again today- off to the shower!
Ah God, I was just on the phone with SONY for …….are you ready………….more than four hours. Their freaking software was all screwed up and I couldn’t make a backup OR a restoration disk. It was horrible. But the GOOD news is, the guy was great.
Anne yes there is such a bill and it’s designed to get rid of small farmers for their buddy, Monsanto. Sponsored by a congresswomen whose husband is a Monanto consultant.
I discussed it here.
https://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com/2009/03/19/he-appears-to-giveth-but-will-they-taketh-away-instead/
Anne you should also know that Mosanto has infiltrated the USDA. Barack put this guy there.
https://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com/2009/04/21/monsanto-plants-its-mutant-seeds-in-the-usda/
Wow- four hours! I have a sony video camera- takes great pics and videos but the software was always a nightmare to get it to talk to the computer. Haven’t tried it on this one – For as many pics as I take (not many) it is easier to just upload the photos from the little card. The videos can just stay on tapes which i send to my middle son- he has a recording studio and pro software- he puts them on disc for me. lol He is also taking all the old audio tapes I have of the family song fests and putting those on cd’s for me. Now those are very precious to me- all my aunts and uncles, my Mom, siblings and cousins- we had the King Family beat I tell you! Most of the older generation has passed- so I treasure those audio tapes!
When your on the phone with India so long you’re worried the battery in the phone is going to die it’s too long.
I have nothing written for tomorrow and I am not capable of writing anything at this point. SO you guys will have to live with what;’s up. I’m going to bed. Far as I can see, the problem isn’t even solved now that we’ve hung up..
Night UW! You’ll figure it out in your sleep- you are way smarter than those guys in India! Or we can have a blog a thon for you if the whole thing goes flooey.
I am going to bed as well- too hot to stay up!
Damn computers!
I have that same feeling I had the morning of 9/11 – BEFORE the attacks by Insane Followers of Allah.
I just got in a short time ago and all that is on TeeVee is Lindsay Lohan and LeBron James.
The morning of 9/11 before the attacks I was so fed up with the “news”. All anyone was talking about was Michael Jordon returning to Basketball. Israel was in flames, Bush has just given his stupid speech about the Stem Cell Research Ban and so much was going on in the world. I got mad, turned off the TeeVee and took the dogs to the beach. About 20 minutes later a friend in Tampa called and asked if I had the TeeVee on. I related my frustration of the “news” and then she told me about the Attacks.
There is so much destruction going on and all they an talk about is Lohan and LeBron James.
We are screwed.
I can’t believe you guys are hot! It’s been in the sixties here for a couple of weeks. I’m about to turn on the space heater, I keep shaking! (and I don’t want to close the window, because I like the breeze lol)
Hi lorac. 🙂
I have my windows and doors open too
but it’s hot anyway
but not as bad as it has been
(I really do need to get that canned air for the keyboard!)
“C” is still stiking
Criminy FF it’s too damn hot for that! We keep it at 85 during the day and 79 at night keeping the humidity out of the house mostly. The electric bill is too high but the house doesn’t get moldy.
I do the 85 SC setting to DE – sometimes i splurge and set it down to 83!
I can’t afford the big bills either.
Darn – SC=AC
Anyway – I’m off to bed.
I think I have to do an Uppity Post in the morning
😮
Do you use a laptop, FF? When I used to have a desktop, I liked that I cccould periodically pull off the letters and ccclean underneath. I don’t think you cccan do that with a laptop – at least, I haven’t had the nerve to try lol
(I typed in solidarity with you and your “c” key 🙂 )
LOL Lorac
yes, its a laptop
and the sticking keys are spreading
cat hair – and pie, no doubt
Ooops I think I posted too late…. FF has gone off to cccccrash in her bed!
Imust wrote a Russian sentence last week with the word “pie” – I was impressed lol
lorac – my ‘c’ key goes on strike
it just refused to typw at all
and now (as you will see in the above typo ‘type’)
it is typing what it wants at time. I had this happen years ago with another laptop. I would be tyoing and suddenly they characters on the screen would not at all resemble what I was strinking on the keyboard (all typos stet)
Here, FF, I’ve done your post for tomorrow:
Obama Sucks
I don’t even want to picture MO sucking
Islam and Shariah suck
Holder sucks
We can see November from our houses
Earthquakes are scary
Sticky letters are a pain in the ***
Hurting animals is very, very wrong and I can’t watch the videos
Hillary is our Hero and sole hope
It’s good we have Uppityville
Cats and penguins (and GOATS) are good.
The end. 🙂
but NOW I am going to bed!
Will post in the AM Lorac (and I am not kidding!)
THANKS!
I’ll add (un photoshopped) pitures too!
Geez, in the old days of typewriters, I’d say you had some “arms” stuck together.
IOn a laptop, if it’s typing the wrong letter, would that be more an electrical problem….?
OH stop it, it was a joke ROFL
(puts Glen Beck’s pipe in her mouth – yuk) I touched on a few of the most salient points, but the ideas still need to be fleshed out, the precise wording needs to be refined. It’s not worth a Smarty Pants Dance lol
‘night!
Lorac, brilliant! Good night to Uppity denizens. See ya tomorrow.
O contraire lorac! Your summation was definitely worth a Smarty Pants Dance. I shall go find one for you and be right back.
Here you go lorac….just for you!
LOL imust – what in the world was THAT? lol
Was this yet one more fashion trend that I have been unaware of since I checked out of the mainstream scene in 1985?
The dad who was having his toddler do the “smarty pants dance” – did it come from this video?
I can’t believe you found this video! lol thanks!
Kitties rescued by US Marine soldiers:
http://www.uniquescoop.com/2010/06/kitties-rescued-by-us-marine-soldiers.html
Lots of great photos.
Ron, that is such a great way to start the day, thanks.
lorac, the video is from a PBS children’s reading education program called, “Between the Lions”. It’s kinda like Sesame Street. I don’t know if the smarty pants dad knew about it, but it’s possible. If he was teaching his toddler geography!
