In life some are given everything…

….and some are given nothing, yet what they have is something short of miraculous.  He (Sung-Bong Choi) was orphaned and left homeless. Nothing matters because when you listen, the gift is there.

Note from UW: If you can’t cry during this one, you can’t cry.

  1. aha, a beautiful voice, a few iffy notes, but a love of singing. With more lessons this guy will be very very good. Music truly is the language of God. This kid was given very little material advantages in life but he was given a voice and the love of music/singing…… he should be just fine now.

  2. Beautiful, heartbreaking, amazing, inspirational. And definitely have tissues around.

  3. Leave it to McNorman to find either the most heart-wrenching video or the funniest damned video on earth. I never know when she’s gonna strike.

I gotta go blow my nose.

  4. Found this in the youtube info box:

English translation to Nella Fantasia (the Italian song that he sings):

In my imagination I see a fair world,
Everyone lives in peace and in honesty there.
I dream of souls that are always free,
    Like the clouds that fly,
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

In my imagination I see a bright world,
Even the night is less dark there.
I dream of souls that are always free,
    Like clouds that fly.

In my imagination there exists a warm wind,
That breathes on the cities, like a friend.
I dream of souls that are always free,
    Like clouds that fly,
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

  5. Karen, that translation makes viewing him even more poignant. Thanks for the translation.

  6. Thank you Karen for the translation.

  7. Gotta love our Karen! Always on the job and always in your fridge!

  8. The Who were prophets- meet the new boss, same as the old boss:

Al-Zawahri has been in hiding for nearly 10 years and is widely believed to be near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He has appeared in dozens of videos and audiotapes in recent years, increasingly becoming the face of al-Qaida as bin Laden kept a lower profile.

Most of his pronouncements on the videos and audiotapes show him to be a man consumed by deep hatred for the West, particularly the United States, and Israel.

  9. Fridge yes, but your pantry isn’t bad either.

  10. Would you let this guy perform surgery on you? I’d rather bleed to death, thanks all the same. Oh and, hide your goats.

  11. Aw God. She’s seen the pantry.

  12. Like I said, Al-Zawahri replaced Bin Forgotten long ago. Killing Osama Bin Laden was too little too late and useless. I guess Barack will save killing Al-Zawahri for October 2012.

  13. You didn’t actually believe that she would stop at the fridge now, did you? lol

  14. Can the freezer be far behind?

  15. Al-Zawahri, who turns 60 on Sunday and has a $25 million bounty on his head, has been behind the use of suicide bombings and the independent militant cells that have become the network’s trademarks. But U.S. intelligence officials have said that some al-Qaida members find al-Zawahri to be a controlling micromanager who lacks bin Laden’s populist appeal.
He also faces significant challenges in promoting al-Qaida’s agenda of a religiously led state spanning the Muslim world after finding itself sidelined in the wake of popular revolts that have been driven by aspirations for Western-style democracy instead.

Does anyone else find it weird that the media is speaking of these people as if they were heads of state? It as if the media were trying to elevate them and I know that is not the case, but I am finding it very weird and creepy. I also can not believe the media still thinks the “Arab Spring” is about creating western style democracies. We shall see……

  16. Got duct tape UW? OT Weiner about to step down.

  17. fixit fairy hit the go away button on that comment 🙂

  18. Thank you Hillary. From McN’s link:

“Mr. Weiner, a Democrat, came to the conclusion that he could no longer serve after having long discussions with his wife, Huma Abedin, when she returned home on Tuesday after traveling abroad with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. “

  19. hopefully this will send a message to all those other congress critters…(clean up your act)

  20. Can’t read that McN. I refuse to register to read NY times shit and give them a headcount so that later they can charge people to read their crap.

  21. How ineffective can he be? He’s been behind every attack on this country for several years. He’s mastered the internet, where he can hook disturbed young people to do his bidding. They can pretend to marginalize him but it’s all just the same bullshit W handed us over Bin Laden. al zawahri promotes AQ’s agenda just fine. None of these freaks has a personality so that’s no big news if he had a charisma bypass.

  22. Thank you, Huma.

  23. Can’t read that McN

You aren’t missing much. He called Nancy last night and told her that he was leaving.

  24. Such a dreary day, that piece was very uplifting what with the story behind the young man. Good on him and the judge that offered him classes regardless of the competition’s outcome….awesome!

  25. Beautiful!

  26. I was stationed in Korea. I saw the living conditions at a Korean orphanage and I ate what the children ate. You don’t want to know.

The bleakness and the silence was overwhelming. I don’t think those kids were abused because we GIs made regular trips to check on them. You know how testy we can be about these things.

I thought to myself “Well I can feel sorry for these orphans or I can help them”. Let’s just say a fundraiser was organized. I just hope we made those children’s lives a little bit better.

Oh yeah if this didn’t bring tears to your eyes it’s true you have no soul.

  27. Wow Candy. Do tell, please.

  28. Uppity, our Commander and 1st Sgt asked for volunteers to visit this the orphanage so I volunteered to go. It wasn’t just me there were several of us.

The buildings were unpainted and made of gray stone. The children were so quiet. We were given a tour of the place as the children trailed silently behind us. We saw the place where they slept. Let’s just say it made me ashamed I ever complained about military barracks.

We played with them and I tried to talked to some of them. Then one little boy smiled at me and it was as though something ripped open in my chest.

I tried to get him to smile again and look at me. I sat next to him as he ate. He wouldn’t even smile again. We ate a thin soup with mystery greens a bowl of rice and a potato or two. I managed to keep it together until we left. But I didn’t cry I got angry on the way back to our base. I said “Something has to be done”.. So I involved my troops and other duty sections and we all did a fund raiser.

Yeah we GIs aren’t all hate mongering idiots. Where do you think our PTSD comes from?

These are children for God’s sake. The thought of anyone cheering on the death of children, ally or no, makes my stomach turn.

These are the innocents we need to think about as we prepare to bomb and bomb and bomb. I don’t sleep well these days. But heck, at least I’m alive to mourn. So many on both sides are not.

  29. These are the innocents we need to think about as we prepare to bomb and bomb and bomb. I don’t sleep well these days. But heck, at least I’m alive to mourn. So many on both sides are not.

Thank you for being a kind human who touched the soul of a child. We. must never forget that children suffer terribly. Every one of us has the capacity to touch someone. We must act on that moment when we are allowed into the heart of a child.

  30. Stay well candymarl, the world needs more of your leadership.

  31. candy, blessed be. You are one who has shown the rest of us the way, and for that I thank you.

  32. Candymarl, that was just so touching. I can’t even imagine how you all felt for those children. What you did was just plain wonderful and typical of the Above And Beyond so many military people go that no one ever knows about.

  33. Damn you, Uppity. I have tears rolling down my face. It just proves that people who are truly gifted and truly love their art, will find a way to do it.

    Incredibly inspirational.

And candymarl, I’m crying because of you too.

    Stupid PMS. (snurfle)
