  1. At least they didn’t taser anyone.

  2. Sounds about right for those western NY PDs! Justice moved swiftly in th case of the Muslim TV station owner in Buffalo who beheaded his wife too–as swift as molasses in Jan. Uppity, please fix this avatar for Hal….If you want to get rid of him, say so. I’m gone. It’s been nice.

  3. I’ve had this happen to me a few times in my life.

One time my ex and I had a camping van all decked out in murals and shag carpet and chrome. We were pulled over for parking and going into an all night pizza place at 3am in Flushing Queens. We’d done nothing wrong whatsoever. We were hungry because we had just finished painting and replacing stuff in a whole basement and it was the only place around that was open. The cop ripped apart our van – speakers, paneling, tires, seats, cabinets and we had to hold back our two big dogs. They took my ex into custody and let me drive home hysterical crying. They let him go the next day and we were furious to say the least. Both of our families showed up at the court house threatening law suits. The main cop, “Tex” was a horror show. After that day he had our address, and although we had done NOTHING wrong he harassed us till we moved. We got tickets for headlights, balding tires, noise after hours, littering, walking our dogs with no leashes, standing on corners loitering when we were just talking to our neighbors. We moved.

Later a friend who was a cop was transferred there and worked with Tex and told us he was always like that and his fellow cops thought he was funny.

Real laugh riot. Yup. My friend said he was an asshole and a real character from hell. We knew that already. We were scared to death every time we saw a cop car! We were in our early twenties and had a young daughter. What a pig he was.

    Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

  4. Another time in the days before George Bush went to war and peace ruled in the land thanks to Bill Clinton, I went to an organizers meeting for an anti-war group I worked with for decades. We were petitioning congress to not allow this whole mess to start. (10 years ago, I guess…) We went out for a cigarette and saw cops all over the parking lot and street near the church writing tickets on LEGALLY parked cars.

These bozos thought we were anti-AMERICAN Saddam huggers. They made that clear when we went up and asked them what the hell we did wrong. That same night they arrested the director of Greenpeace for walking down the street and minding his own business. It made the news in NYC.

  5. WTF? Hal if that’s you, I don’t give people avatars. The system gives them out IF you don’t take the time to upload your own into Gravatar. If you have a gravatar and it’s not showing up here it’s something YOU did not something I did. I may be forceful but I don’t conrol avatars. That’s above my pay grade. Goodness, Hal, you have known me long enough to know if I wanted to get rid of you I would just tell you to get lost. And why on earth would I want to do that?

  6. Karen, why you little hippy freak, you!

  7. Obama enacts the Dream Act by executive order…I wonder if he used the AutoPen again. Maybe the AutoPen and TOTUS could take over the presidency and barry could spend all his time playing golf.

“This is outright lawlessness on the part of the administration,” argued syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer on a discussion panel with Fox News’ anchor Chris Wallace. “Whatever the politics of this, we do have a Constitution. And under it, the Legislature, the Congress enacts the laws and the executive executes them. It doesn’t make them up.
“The DREAM Act was rejected by Congress,” Krauthammer continued. “It is now being enacted by the executive, despite the express will of the Congress. That is lawless. It may not be an explicit executive order; it’s an implicit one.”

  8. Damn MyIQ! I KNEW something was missing to round out the picture. Tasers. These guys blew it. They could have had their subjects bouncing around screaming on the ground. I bet they regret not thinking of it.

  9. Yeah I saw that dream act thing. I think I sent people to green’s place to read about it. I am just so sick of this Narcissistic, Despot Prick I can’t even deal with most of his bullshit any longer. W Bush is starting to look like a nice guy next to this president.

  10. I remember when I felt safe around cops. I don’t any longer. I have seen too many times a collective dissasociative thing going on with these younger cops. They treat victims like dog shit and have no empathy whatsoever. They make people afraid to approach them. They have an aura around them that makes you feel insecure and like a criminal for just existing. They pull their caps over their eyes and have a tone of disdain and “suck up to me because I have the power and the gun”. I gave up on police long ago. They are just on a power trip now and it shows. We put more time into picking out a new car than PDs put into selecting police officers now.

  11. Guilty as charged.

Here comes a cop, all dressed in green…

I bet Uppity can finish that line! She had a bong!

  12. The dream act. He acts like the whole damn thing is a dream, and so do his supporters. They want their hopey-changey and he is convincing them that they will get it but he needs 4 more years.

Uh huh. Sure. He would announce his Imelda has decided they should become mormons if it will get him votes. He needs a billion in his coffers for bribe money. It is going to cost him more than last time. He will still be getting that Gaza Strip money and the offices for his army of supporters that barely speak and write English who live there. He’ll have more names like xyz, rrtbl23, zoogo, ergoigo as his contributors with locations in normal places like War Trench, Idaboop, Egypt.

  13. The only reason Obama and the Obamacats care about the Dream act is they want the Hispanic vote.

  14. Maybe this was Rochester, Iran?

  15. Thank God executive orders can be torn up and burned by subsequent presidents.

  16. Andrew has his father’s voice but not his father’s oratory skills. Looks like he might have his heart though, and that is good. I had reached a point where I would have just been happy to have a governor who wasn’t so immorally transparent, you could tell where his mistresses were by the grant money, or a governor who wasn’s BFFs with Al “I wanna be Don Corleone” D’Amato. Think Pataki. I had reached the point also where I would have been happy to have governor who didn’t get caught humping women in the very prostitution business he was purporting to bust. Think Eliot. I stopped holding out hope. Looks like I got more than I expect in Andrew. For a change. I have decided I like him, even though I can’t help comparing him to his marvelous and brilliant father whose company I was lucky enough to be graced with on several occassions. Kudos, Andrew. You just might be my kind of Democrat. We are so rare ever since crackpots hijacked our party.

  17. My mother has been in a nursing home for several years. She was a strong Hillary supporter in 2008. Yes, she was one of us! She enjoyed hearing about the Hillary blogs I was on. I kept her informed about the tricks the Obama campaign was playing with the vote, among other things. When she got her absentee ballot application, I had to fight to keep her from registering her name as “Jive Turkey”. She thought that would be a hoot. Alas, her dementia is so advanced now, she will probably not be able to vote in 2012.

  18. Jive Turkey. ROFL. (((Beata))).

  19. So-o-o glad you’ve brought up the ‘nightmare’ act in conjunction with krauthammer; my nose had been twitching to mail postcards on the topic. That was Friday, & there appeared to be no good references & then the weekend came & I forgot. Until now. Like I said, thanks. Many thanks.

  20. I loved Andrew Cuomo’s speech following the passage of the same-sex marriage bill. An excellent speech, but I couldn’t help thinking that his voice does not have the passion or power that his father’s did. That is unfortunate. Still, I see Andrew as a real hope for the future.

  21. Postcard Pamela. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

  22. Beata, thanks for saying what I was trying to say in way more words than you used.

  23. And the winner is……………JW Smart:

Obama feels very much like the obnoxious, intrusive host at a party we aren’t allowed to leave.

  24. Great line by JWS!

  25. Did I say, I really like the current header? It’s as eye-catching as it is mysterious. I wish FF would explain it to us: e.g., what is MKB doing in Russia (I think she identified that as the location…)? What is he doing in the sewer? Will he bathe before returning to Aunt Uppity’s?

Speak to us, MKB! If you’re in some trouble (e.g., with the Russian mafia) we can help you. Twitter us your secret.

  26. Alas NES, only FF and Bill know these answers. That is the joy and mystery of the Living Header.

  27. Now mind you, I am not privy to what is coming next on the header. I do not commisserate. however IMO, it looks to me as if Bill has found an underground way over the border.

  28. BtW many of you see he new headers before even I do. FF and I have a complete trusting partnership here. I control the context, she controls the header in all ways. And so, I look forward to finding out what’s next too!

  29. MKB’s a drug mule? Naaah. .. More like a drug kingpin.

  30. No. I think he hopped the border to birth an American Citizen litter.

  31. Aha!! Or, as Utah would say, to remove his (his paramor’s) bun from the oven here.

  32. Yes. and then they would get the full benefit of free veterinary care.

Perhaps bill intends to populate all corners of the world. Kinda like Barack’s father.

Or perhaps he is running catnip.

  33. I believe MKB is in post-WWII Vienna, seaching the sewers for Harry Lime. A very brave and noble kitteh. I can hear the zither playing in the background.

  34. But there is snow in the header – maybe it was the Canadian border – he found a way out of the party/country with the obnoxious host!

  35. Is that snow, lorac? Perhaps it’s Barry’s favorite nasal cleanser.

  36. There! You see how fertile Bill makes our imaginations?

  37. Zither. I’m dying here.

  38. Fertile is exactly the word that comes to mind in describing Bill.

  39. Fertile is exactly the word that comes to mind in describing Bill.

    Well yeah, there’s that too…..

  40. Perhaps he’s in Russia for the remake of Dr. Zhivago.

  41. Yesssssss, that’s it — he is terribly handsome, in the mold of the young Omar Sharif.

You liked that movie, Upps? I thought it most YUM.

  42. As UW might caution, the GOP could still lose ’12 if they nominate the wrong person:

The identity of the GOP nominee matters

  43. Julie Christie as Lara…WOW!

  44. Thank the lord, the Dutch are finally getting it, albeit with their country on the verge of being flushed down the toilet of PC.

    Acquitted of Political Incorrectitudes

  45. Yes I did love Zhivago. I thought Omar was simply gorgeous. However, he aged very poorly. As he greyed, he looked like a skeletal avatar. Now of course, he looks much worse, since he is old. But he was a VERY sexy man. Do you know he almost lost his egyptian citizenship because the Egyptian press discovered his affair with Streisand and she was outspoken…as a supporter of Israel. I was also surprised to note that the Islamofascist pig who is dead and in hell, Edward Said was his school mate and referred to Omar as sadistic and rather cruel. I thought, Whoa, Said should talk. Anyways, his marriage to his egyptian wife ended because he felt he could not return to egypt between movies, due to their restrictions for citizens to leave the country at the time. He did convert to Islam before marrying her, but was not particularly religious — and he never remarried, saying he could never fall in love with a woman who was not Egyptian. Whatever. He was One. Very. Sexy. Man, adding an entire new meaning to the word “Swarthy” methinks.

  46. Wilders aquitted. Good. I saw some harrowing segmens of Fitna. Islam is frightening. they will kill him eventually. It’s what they do.

  47. As UW might caution, the GOP could still lose ’12 if they nominate the wrong person:

I firmly believe that the further right socially they pick, the lesser their chances, for they shall never get the vote of disinfranchised feminist Democrats like myself, of which there are many, and the Independents will roundly reject that candidate.

  48. Yes, NES, Julie Christie was simply gorgeous.

  49. By the way, Omar is a highly educated man as well.

  50. Mercy, I have 59 unopened emails. Somebody shoot me.

  51. I like Andrew, as well.

I voted for him, just as I voted for his father.

I guess I was predisposed to vote for Andrew, since my dear departed mother loved Mario. Loved. I mean, it was a major crush. lol. Mom was never much into politics, but whenever Mario was speaking, she would say…

“I could listen to that man talk all day”. And she always did.

While Andrew does sound almost exactly like his dad, he doesn’t quite reach the heights of oratorical eloquence where Mario once stood so high; but, then again, few modern politicians have ever achieved that summit, in my opinion.

Andrew Cuomo seems to be a REAL Democrat. And, in these times of exile for many of us, that is enough.

Hey, Uppity, regarding Senator Grisanti and your earlier reply to me in a previous thread…

“RW Vet. Don’t you just LOVE when you take a chance and then the person comes through for you?”

Yes, I do! It’s refreshing, and gives one hope. But I think what I love even more is the fact that I am still quite WILLING to take that chance. Not too old or too jaded (yet). lol. Ya know? Happily, I have thus far never allowed myself to be haunted by Emerson’s hobgoblin.

  52. Tried to leave a previous comment, but no luck.

Julie Christie is still gorgeous, and sublimely talented. Has anyone seen “Away from Her”? IT a marvelous, sad story about the effect that Alzheimers has on a community – it’s brilliant and Christie was nominated for an Academy Award.

  53. Wow. Pat Condell hits it out of the park…

  54. In honor of your Mom, Vet:

  55. So what’s changed since 1984???? Might as well be giving his speech to Barack. I’m putting this up.

  56. Excellent find, Lorac. Thanks.

  57. Blackie just finished a can of Fancy Feast in record time and is now asleep on my porch. This is the first time I have seen her in days. No sign of Nasty Raccoon.

  58. Ah I was wondering and was going to ask you about Blackie. Good on you and good on Blackie!!!! Are you able to pet him yet?

  59. Hey why not put a sturdy box with a blankey out there for him? that should step things up by weeks.

  60. Uppity… I do think there is a hidden cat in your kitchen? have you checked? 😯 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 🙂

  61. I KNOW casper. I just goofed. Its coming though! I got so busy I actually scraped for something for this morning, and now I remember what I REALLY wanted to put up!!! SHows you how far I’ve lost my mind. I shall put it up in the AM and trash the thing I had written till later.

  67. my time, girl.

  68. The TSA makes a 95 year old cancer patient take off her diaper. What country are we in..not the same one I was born in.

  69. Fucking TSA. A lot of people are suing them. Hopefully, it will catch on. Does anyone know what happened to the lady in the post? My God, this country is going straight to the crapper.

  70. It looks like she has to appear in court tomorrow (Monday).

  71. Her case was dismissed:
