  1. Uppity – a picture of Teh One would have delivered the same message.

BUSY day today – BBL. Save a place for me!

  2. Is that a picture of the Oval Office Uppity?
Saw your last comment in the thread below and you are, as usual, absolutely correct. As for me, I gave up being afraid of those pricks in DC a while ago. I decided I will personally term limit every one. No more voting in the same privileged few over and over again. Balance in all things. One party for the exec and competing party for the legislative. Keeps them fighting each other.
As you said, they care not one whit for us. It’s all about them. Like two year olds- “me me me! mine mine mine!”
Excellent point on the interest rates too Uppity. It is no longer worth having a savings account with interest less than one percent in most cases. The market goes up and down- but we have 6 yrs til hubby retires so whatever happens this year we have time to get it back.
They do need to be afraid of us. A few more elections like the mid-terms and perhaps we can jar them (and the voting populace) back to the reality that they – according to the law- represent US!
Sheesh- if I had turned in the kind of performance at work that the clowns in DC do I would have been fired.
So- as we- the voters- are supposed to be the human resources directors and hiring managers for DC- let’s get on it.
    As Dad always said
    Kick the Bums Out!

  3. To plainjane,
Unfortunately, you clicked on a photo in the sidebar and then commented under the photo. This means your comment will not appear in any thread and will probably not be seen by anybody . I tell you this so you do not assume your comment disappeared for any reason other than it’s not in a thread and not answerable or viewable once it leaves the “Recent comments” stream.

  4. I may not be around much today- I have to try and reclaim my yard- which has not been weeded since I left- every one of my flower beds is full of teasel and thistle. AARRRGGHHHHHH

  5. Oh lookie! You found Obama’s resume and posted it!

  6. Great !!
You found Obama’s State and Congressional records!

  7. Been crazy busy but reading everyday. Love the comments on the blank space today. It could be Obama’s mind, the oval office or the Congress. They are all blank.

  8. Kick the Bums Out!
    good advise 🙂

  9. Good morning from the land of no sleep and no rain…

    1. Yes indeed, kick the bums out.

    2. Tired. Tired emotionally, tired physically, and more than these, so damn tired of the vindictive, selfish, partisan sh*t. Just pass the GD thing already!

    3. Haven’t had time to read the previous thread, but I got a chain email re Warren Buffett on CNBC. If it’s real, I’m all for it.

    4. PMM – I’ve given up on my yard this summer. Between hitting 100 in March and a blistering summer with no monsoon rains, then Boy getting sick, then throwing my back out, it’s brown and sere. I just gave up.😦 I’ll start over in October.

  10. Thanks Uppity..I realized that the other comments were old and few…doesn’t matter. I’ll think of something else to say…and in the right place.

  11. It is unforgivable for any democratic party president to put medicare and social security on the table. That should have been the line in the sand for every democrat in public office. These are our insurance funds, paid for by our taxes. They are not welfare programs used by “entitled” people sucking up the government resources.
This is another example of the elite setting us up to do battle with each other while they rob us blind, passing out huge government contracts to family and friends and big donors.
Screw Obama and all who voted for him in the primary. He TOLD US what he was going to do. Why weren’t they listening?

  12. alli, what about Warren Buffet?

  13. standing up and applauding Teresainpa!!!

  14. V E T O = Vote Every Turkey Out

  15. thank you imust. I get so frustrated because I know that even if we did have a champion, the media would destroy that person.

  16. Oh geez, I saw a post today on a lefty blog saying “Impeach George W. Obama”

LMAO! Sorry, too late you foolish, foolish people who fell for the feel goodie messages and the tingly legs. We told you he’d be a third term Bush. Incredible stupidity from people who say they are cynical about the media. Right!

  17. OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK

  18. My wish is that every politician in DC, especially the one, step in dog sh__ every day when they get out of their cars. The blank space above is all of the Americans who are truely happy with the one.

  19. Mt. Laurel, g. and more!

  20. It’s the blank slate we’re supposed to project our hopes and dreams.

  21. Anthony at 6:20 pm –
good catch. I watched this episode when it aired. Outrageous. Go Judge Judy!

  22. bravo everyone.

imustagreewithimustprotest. TehOne said exactly that. It was perhaps the only time he wasn’t lying.

  23. Well off to roller blade again. Not sore surprisingly but I am sure I can fix that. Hey Uppity just wanted to let you know my brother got adopted by two cats after he lost his remember ? He was at a resteraunt having a meal and low and behold cat # 1 finds him then out shopping and well along came kitty # 2. Both beautiful greys look like Russian Blues but who knows. I do know they are darn lucky cats they will live the life of kings.

  24. Anthony that’s unfreaking believable.

  25. Some great answers as to what was left blank, gang! Let me just add, “Everything Obama knows about leadership”.

Hey Utah, glad he got furry friends. They knew there was an opening. Cats are like that. I just fished you out of email spam too. lol. Let’s just say I’m a little late. Thank heavens I’m not pregnant!

  26. Foxy said it already. No primary. Obama will just have to cheat at other things this time. But if he is primaried by one of those kossack, movey oney woman-abusing Regressive freaks, I am not voting in primary.

  27. It is kind of interesting we never hear from any of Barry’s childhood friends? His description of his childhood in his book has been proven to be false. I think he was raised by “handlers” who planned to get him into politics, and eventually the white house. He has no friends that do not believe as he does. Even I have liberal buddies!

  28. Anthony – I watched the Judge Judy video you posted. Wow. Then I watched another. And another. And…..

OMG. I sure hope these people aren’t our “future”. SCARY!

  29. Good Morning Uppityites! Utah you take care- good on you learning new things! As long as we are learning we are alive! Just beware the thistles!
    Music for a Summer Sunday!

  30. Well this particular fear mongering budget thing only has two more days to go before they are onto the NEXT chaos subject. It’s been this way for three damned years. Fear Fear Fear Fear. These people are sickening. Just sickening. And they are all batshit crazy too. It’s like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

  31. One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest! How very apt!
    Or The Snake Pit!

  32. Like I said, Midnight on August 2nd it’s “settled”and then onto the next Fear Subject. Or he does the 14th amendment schtick and he can officially be King then.

  33. How about this one? “We will control all you are about to see…..”

  34. AMEN on that one Uppity! It’s always that- and giving them a pack of smokes or a 25 dollar gift card to vote!

  35. Obama’s second term economy.

  36. Words of wisdom- I could post Carlin’s monologues all day! So much of what he said is spot on!

  37. Bitter clingers

  38. I love open threads! BB after church!

  39. Everything old is new again?

“The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”
    ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero

  40. I think Ann Reinking clearly qualified as having the longest legs in the world.

  41. Looking, looking, looking. I think it’s a picture of the heart of the Political and Mega Corporate Slum-Lords who are controlling America?

Like the value of the Social Security Trust Fund that belongs to the American People, here’s what else “they” want to have absolute control over, even if it kills Middle Class America, Seniors and the truly “poor.”

How important are small businesses to the U.S. economy?

    Small firms:

Represent 99.7 percent of all employer firms.

Employ just over half of all private sector employees.

Pay 44 percent of total U.S. private payroll.

Have generated 64 percent of net new jobs over the past 15 years.

Create more than half of the nonfarm private gross domestic product (GDP).

Hire 40 percent of high tech workers (such as scientists, engineers, and computer programmers).

Are 52 percent home-based and 2 percent franchises.

Made up 97.3 percent of all identified exporters and produced 30.2 percent of the known export value in FY 2007.

Produce 13 times more patents per employee than large patenting firms; these patents are twice as likely as large firm patents to be among the one percent most cited.

“WE WILL ENDURE! We are America! It’s what we DO! But in the process we will make sure criminals and morally bankrupt freaks who have taken over this country’s “leadership” won’t endure. Clean house! Don’t let them scare you. Scare THEM INSTEAD!”

  44. He has no friends that do not believe as he does. Even I have liberal buddies!

Uncle Sam’s , I am a liberal and I live with a conservative. Of course I am right and he is wrong….no just kidding. But of course, we all have friends who we disagree with on politics and social issues. Obamamessiah has a very sketchy past AND present. I think his handlers just eliminated everyone who was not an asset. Then I think the corporate media was given it’s orders not to vet him, just like they followed their orders not to vet dubya and to destroy Gore.

In the category of “hell just froze over”, I just listened to Ben Stein on CBS Sunday Morning. I agreed with him, or rather he agreed with me. He dissed supply side economics, Complimented Bill Clinton, blamed Bush and Obama and said, “if you spend a lot, you have to tax a lot”. Amen

  45. Oh, I was at the previous thread copying the above excerpt from your most excellent comment. I wanted to re-post the whole thing!

  46. I also want to ask this:

WHY did the Republican Party prefer Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton?

    a. They knew they could make mincemeat out him?
    b. They knew, based upon his HISTORY that he could be bought?
    c. Hillary would have the popularity, worldwide, to ACTUALLY CHANGE Washington, inspire Americans to rise up and fight and rally support to reverse the Bush-Cheney, Corporate takeover of the single, greatest American Democratic Principle of People First?

  47. whynot…. thank you for the stats on small business. I am going to use them later. Wouldn’t it be great if we could release small business from having to worry about medical insurance for their employees much less themselves? I think it would be a huge business boom in this nation if we had medicare for all and people could leave their corporate jobs and create even more small businesses? What if we could tell businesses you take 75 percent of what you are now spending on Medical Insurance, pay it in taxes and keep the other 25 percent and in exchange you and all of your employees, including part timers, will have healthcare”?

  48. I know what that blank space is…
    it,s a ex ray of Obamas head… 😆 😆

  49. the blank space could be the Oval Office during a typical day.

why oh why hasn’t Obama yet declared he will not seek and will not accept the nomination for President of the USA for a second term? When is his LBJ moment coming?

  50. The “We Endure” post was great, Upps — I missed it at the time of its posting. The sentiment expressed is always front-and-center in my mind.

  51. You must be dreaming, teresa! He loves him his perks and the glory of the office.

  52. teresainpa @10:58 ~ the PTB don’t want small business to exist, let alone multiply.

I watched the George Carlin video and got furious all over again. He’s right, of course. And I feel like once again, we are going to pound our heads against the great wall of Wall Street, etc. as we watch TehOne run away with the (s)election and take this nation over the rest of the cliff in 2012.

  53. That Cicero quote has been doctored from his original. It sounded fishy so I looked it up and found “snopes” type corrections.

The actual quote is: “The arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and assistance to foreign hands should be curtailed, lest Rome fall.”

  54. TehOne will have himself an LBJ moment if and when his owners tell him to.

  55. The blank space is his teleprompter acting up. Without it he cannot speak.

  56. Modow scores against Obama: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/31/opinion/sunday/dowd-tempest-in-a-tea-party.html?_r=1

Mind you, like other fauxgressives, she doesn’t get the fundamental appeal of the TP, but she does understand that they won the war.

  57. Got word this morning that my Mother in law passed away around 5am. Poor soul has been in the nursing home with Alzheimer’s for years – so a blessing really. Waiting on word about funeral arrangements- in Florida. Will check in- but if I disappear you all know why.

  58. teresainpa, on July 31, 2011 at 10:58 AM

Thinking about your ideas on Small Business and funding Health Care Insurance.

I do believe that Small Business has been left with the total burden of funding heath care coverage for people seeking “quality” care in an overburdened health care system.

I think this scenario will only become worse now under the Obama Care Plan. Consider the numbers of large corporations that are applying for the exemption, the “opt-out” loophole. What a surprise that “provision” (pay-to-play) was put in at the last moment?

I believed in the Single-Payer Plan, calculated by percentage of earnings to contribution, but your ideas are probably the most practical when it comes to administration of the HC system The problem is how heavily invested Big Insurance is in the profiteering off of the system, as it is now.

Preventative Health Care models work, when people have the “coverage” to pursue them, which seems to greatly help alleviate the “critical care” burden on the system.

Well, reading that today brought tears. Thank you for inspiring me to remember again and again that WE DO NOT HAVE TO ROLL OVER for all of this!

  60. Mom = sorry to hear about the MIL, although it sounds like you feel om with it. Hope Mr. PMM is doing alright too.

Where will you be in Fla?

  61. God, I hate this keyboard

  62. Condolences, Mom.

  63. Condolences also, PMM.

  64. NoEmptySuits:

    Thanks for the interesting reads.

Is there ANY hope for the day that Moderates rule?

  65. I have to (get to) go to work.

  66. Bless you and yours Mom.

  67. FF- Jax. Funeral not til next weekend to give everybody time to get there. Road trip. Ugh. Hubby will not fly (can’t smoke) It is going to cost just as much in gas to drive as it would to fly. Just talked to sister in law and I will be handling all the music for the Mass- as soon as she gets a time from the church and a number for the organist or pianist. Long distance planning. Yay!
You and DE are over on the other side of FL? Not close to Jax?

  68. De nada, WhyNot.
Glad to see you’ve joined the band of regular commenters here.

  69. wyhnot, moderates rule will come back soon. However when it does I hope it is about more than compromise. I think those on the right and the left can agree that people have lost power and corporations and the wealthy few have bent the country to their advantage alone. It has been done by both parties and there is no one to speak for the rest of us.

  70. Sorry PMM.

As for the blank slate? Well, that might as well be Bam’s transcripts.

  71. Mom – DE is on the East Coast but south of Jax – I am on the west coast about the middle. Somebody is near (or in Jax)

  72. “Super Congress”

Am I overreacting to think that creation of a “Super Congress” simply means that they are constructing a means to further insulate themselves from “we don;t give a damn what we promised our constituents” voter backlash?

If we are coming down to twelve (all men, most likely) who will construct policy for the rest of Congress to vote on, what’s the point in electing “representatives”?

“The Super Congress will be made up of six Democrats and six Republicans from both chambers. Under the reported framework, legislation the new congressional committee writes would be fast-tracked through the regular Congress and could not be filibustered or amended.

The parties are negotiating the outlines of the super panel’s mandate, deciding roughly how much in cuts must come from defense spending, how much from seniors, how much from veterans, etc.”

  73. Anyone seen Lorac?

  74. BBL – gotta drive Charlotte to the airport to pick up her great-nephew.

  75. More “Fundamental Transformation” WhyNot?

    Super Congress = Politburo Chieftains

We are becoming more and more what we SAY we despise in our ‘enemies’. The Founders would have these people sent to the gallows.

  76. Super Congress is a misnomer. You can’t have a Super Congress when all we have in Congress are Mediocre people. Perhaps they mean 12 who are less mediocre, but mediocre nonetheless. Face it folks, we don’t have anybody in congress worthy of admiring, particularly when you consider any one of them from the neck up.

The vast majority of these leeches have been on the government teet most of their lives. Ironically, the longest running ones tend to be the most ready to shaft everybody else and exempt themselves.

  77. Congress: The longest running and most lucrative Entitlement Program of All.

    Agree with everything said.

“Overwhelmed” Americans is what they have been capitalizing on since 9/11.

How do we shut down the game?

Personally, I think we should pick a symbolic vice grip once a month (like gasoline or big banks, or internet media outlets – and all products “made in China”) and refuse to purchase, or switch from banks to a credit union, or cancel accounts, etc.

Like Uppity said, we need to freak THEM out for a change. It wouldn’t take long to rock the world that’s paying them to play, now would it?

  79. Uppity – TWEET THAT

Congress: The longest running and most lucrative Entitlement Program of All.

it will get retweeted in droves

    OK, gotta go now

  80. FF – been incredibly busy lately. I’ll send you an email a little later!

  81. Sorry about your Mother in-law PMM. I’m in south florida on the east coast.

  82. Mom, condolences to you and your family on your loss.

“Fast tracked” and “could not be filibustered or amended.”

  85. Condolences PMM.

  86. Thanks everybody!
    As for this
“Congress: The longest running and most lucrative Entitlement Program of All.”

I tweeted it! Let’s see where it goes!

  87. I have no clue how to do the hashtag thing on Twitter. So some more techno savvy person will have to jumpstart that tweet lol.

  88. may I add my Condolences PMM.

  89. PMM, it is hard to lose anyone even when it is a blessing. When a parent dies I always think it separates us from out younger self. Nothing can make that easier.
My best to you and your family. I will remember you all in my prayers today.

  90. PMM:

I think you do a hastagged tweet like this.

When you create the tweet message, embed the words or phrase that you want the message to “trend” on, with the hashtag symbol (#) before it, like this:

Congress: The longest running and most lucrative Entitlement Program of All. #entitlementmyass

You can also do more than one hastag, if you like – but no more than three is recommended, like this:

Congress: The longest running and most lucrative #EntitlementProgram of All. #entitlementmyass

  91. Anyone on the board from Ohio? I’ve been interested in Rep. Marcy Kaptur. She seems to be on the side of the working class. Thoughts?

  92. Condolences to you & your family, Mom. What teresa says is right, we’ve had two parents die from Alz in the last 2 years, my Dad & my Mom in law. You’re relieved for them, but its still sad they’re gone. Also, like your twitter comment. So true.

Has Greenconsciousness been around lately? I remember she was really sick in the hosp, then came home, but I don’t remember seeing her of late.

Uppity, my market had the san marzano tomatoes (the real ones) on sales for 40% off this weekend. I bought a bunch!

  93. Mods…help…in spam!

  94. socal you have been rescued- spammy seems to be working OT while Uppity is on vacay!

  95. Whynot! Thanks going over to repost it that way on twitter!

  96. Support New Balance, still manufacturing in the US:
    http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102×4941772

  97. plainjane- I have been buying New Balance for a long time- and it is great that they still make things HERE in the USA! And they make a better, more affordable product than Reebok and Nike imo.

  98. Thanks Mom! Hubbie’s been wearing New Balance for years. I have been buying laker “kobe” basketball shoes the past two years (I think made by NIke) becuz they have a wide flange around the outside and keep his foot from supinating, so he doesn’t have to wear his leg braces now except at night. (he has a mild form of muscular dystrophy)

  99. I got this in an email from my Senator, Mary Landrieu:

We ought to be able to work across party lines on a solution to raise the debt ceiling, while making significant and necessary cuts to spending, reforms to entitlement programs and tax reform to make the system fairer to middle class families and small businesses. Such a proposal was put forth by the ‘Gang of Six Plus,’ a bipartisan group of senators of which I am proud to be a part, who developed a balanced approach to addressing out fiscal crisis.

    (bolding mine)

I’m calling one of her offices tomorrow to ask which of the *entitlements* she wants to reform, and how so. If they dare say Social Security, I’m going to unload big time. Mary is one of only 2 Dems in the Louisiana delegation. She’s trying to play to the middle and the indies like Barry and it ain’t gonna fly.

  100. Condolences Mom. My Uncle died from Alz. As socal wrote, it’s tough. On one hand you’re glad they have found release but on the other, you miss them. Take care of yourself and PMhubby (despite the mess you had to come home to!)
P.S. love the tweet – Uppity and Mom and whynot.

  101. HT- thanks- though it seems we have been missing her for years. She was in FL and quite a few years ago the nursing home rushed her to the hospital because she was losing so much weight. The hospital put in a feeding tube- GRRRRRR. Who the hell are we to interfere when it is time to go?
I have it written down- “Put me on any machines and I WILL haunt your sorry ass! Do NOT prolong my life to avoid grief- it will come in it’s own time.”

  102. Mom sorry to hear about your MIL. Ditto on prolonging life to avoid grief. No way. I have a living will about that. Most people, given the choice, would never want to vegetate like that and the rest is nobody’s business. But if a person doesn’t define their wishes in writing, hospitals are notorious for keeping people “alive’ like zombies. Till Medicare or other insurance runs out. Then mysteriously, they die on cue.

  103. ONLY in Washington DC is a “Landlord” a VENDOR (ie, Government Contractor) TO the Government!.

ONLY in Washington DC, does the VICE PRESIDENT charge the friggin’ Secret Service friggin RENT!

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/jul/31/biden-charging-secret-service-cottage-rental/

And these people want to know why we hate what they TELL US we can do?

  104. I was just going to post that,,,,unbelievable.

  105. My husband and I have been buying New Balance for some time now, too, but I really wasn’t aware that they are the last of the athletic footwear companies to manufacture in the US…
How can there be jobs if we don’t make anything? Why doesn’t the government know that?

  106. My Dad had done a POA, and said he didn’t want to be kept alive after his Alz got bad, so they didn’t give him the feeding tube. It was hard watching him waste away though, and I wavered a few times about whether I should ask for it, but my sibs told me to buck up & not do it.

  107. They DO know it PlainJane. They want us all to be beholdin, groveling in our pathetic little lives just trying to survive, while they take It All

  108. Oh! Hey Lorac. Just wanted to make sure you were alright. California is funny that way sometimes…

  109. Uppity- you’ve got mail.

  110. socal, I know what you mean. My Aunt, bless her, was 95 – not Alz, but she didn’t want to live as everyone of her contemporaries had died. The hospital put in a feeding tube, until we told them to take it out, but they insisted on keeping in a tube for fluids regardless of her and our wishes. We were there every day and took turns spending the night in a chair by her side. She lasted three weeks but not because she wanted to – her incredible constitution kept her going well beyond what her mind wanted. Sad and quite frankly, brutal when a shot or a additive to her intravenous could have stopped her suffering.

  111. Here’s a specimen that should have been eliminated from the gene pool before he was allowed to spawn.
Drunk father lets 8-year-old son drive pickup: police
When Louisiana state troopers pulled over the truck in Livingston Parish, they found the 8 year-old boy behind the wheel and interviewed the father, 28 year-old Billy Joe Madden of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, police said.

Police said they determined Madden was drunk and that he had been sleeping while his son drove the vehicle, en-route to Dallas, Texas.
    http://news.yahoo.com/drunk-father-lets-8-old-son-drive-pickup-234912764.html

  112. HT, we didn’t have that, we took my Dad here to our home, when he had a bad stroke & got hospice. At first I was able to feed him, then he was just on fluids, then he was in a coma at the end. Hospice doesn’t usually try to prolong their lives like hospitals do, as Uppity pointed out upthread. Anyway, my Dad died here.

  113. socal my mother was in a coma as well and I had to Hospice her. Her wishes were VERY clear.

  114. Mom, got the mail and answered.

  115. Thanks for the info on hospice care – I’ll have to look into that. My kids know what I want and I’ve threatened to come back and haunt them if they don’t follow my instructions to the letter.

  116. HT if you go into a coma and nobody has durable POA and you haven’t made your wishes clear, they will drag you on until they suck your insurance bone dry and take the rest out of your estate. And you will lie there in a vegetative state while your family watches you wither away. None of us would do that to a pet. I’ve known too many families in that dilemma, where the kids felt too guilty to hospice. Had their loved one made things clear, it would still be hard but at least they would know it’s what their loved one wanted.

  117. Uppity, thanks. I do have a living will, so that should take care of it, I hope.

  118. Looks like Bo will be getting his way….that the agreement with the House will run through 2013…so he can get by the next election cycle without taking off any time from electioneering.
That is galling enough without that Committee of Twelve’s being able to decide our future without any input from the rest of Congress.

“The new congressional committee writes would be fast-tracked through the regular Congress and could not be filibustered or amended”.

  119. plainjane, a new version of the Star Chamber – meets in secret, decides law, implements with no input from the people whatsoever.

  120. Origin of the term “Star Chamber”
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Chamber

“In modern usage, legal or administrative bodies with strict, arbitrary rulings and secretive proceedings are sometimes called, metaphorically or poetically, star chambers. This is a pejorative term and intended to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the proceedings. The inherent lack of objectivity of any politically motivated charges has led to substantial reforms in English law in most jurisdictions since that time.”

  121. Got this link from murphy’s recent post. Islamofascism is wimminz fault. The Norway killer killed because it’s wimminz fault. No kidding. You can’t make this shit up.

  122. plainjaine we have 3 pairs of New Balance and they all say made in china on the tongue tag.

  123. From our Afghan “Partners”

NYT’s “Quote of the day” in this morning online edition:

    QUOTATION OF THE DAY

“We are all human. God created us from one dirt. Why can we not marry each other, or love each other?”

HALIMA MOHAMMEDI, an Afghan teenager whose love for another teenager, Rafi Mohammed, set off a riot by flouting their village’s tradition of arranged marriages.

“What we would ask is that the government should kill both of them.”
    KHER MOHAMMED, her father.

  124. DE New Balance had a huge law suit in China against counterfeiting. China has been doing knockoffs of their shoes for years. The Chinese manufacturing industry is criminal, really. I have their track shoes and they are “made” here. I put that in quotes because they are “Assembled” here. People do not realize that Made In America and Assembled In America are two different things. Assembled in America means this is where they put all the materials together. It does not mean the materials came from America.

  125. The thing with sports shoes is, they have to feel right on your feet. New Balance for the most part, just aren’t made for me. I prefer merrell shoes and they also claim to be made in the USA, Chinese thievery notwithstanding.

  126. That was very brave of you, socal. I imagine it must’ve been very hard.

  127. PJane, they have have all the committees of 12 they want. They still have to get the majority to vote Yes. It’s just some more Kabuki.

  128. My sincere condolences PMM.

  129. Debt Ceiling Solved. America pre-approved for a MasterCard! (29.4% APR)

  130. According to Fortune Magazine, 75% of New Balance shoes are made in China and Vietnam. Perhaps an even more interesting aspect of the Fortune article are the shoes that many of those Asian factories produce on their “Third Shift” or “Ghost Shift”. These shoes, produced in New Balance’s foreign factories, aren’t exactly counterfeits, but they aren’t exactly genuine New Balance shoes either.

  131. New Balance continues to make some (but not many) of its shoes in five U.S. factories; New Balance has 1600 U.S. workers. Most of their shoes are made in China.

  132. My condolences, PMM

Socal, you were such a blessing to your father.

  133. It all makes you wonder if the Republicans have been holding evidence of “the Real Barack Obama” cards all along?

  134. PMM, thinking of you and yours; SoCal, I’ve been through it myself, tho’ the circumstances were different. God bless both of you.

I’ve been off the radar – busier than a one armed paperhanger.

Here’s what was making the rounds via an email chain letter:

“I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.” – Warren Buffett, in a CNBC interview.

Now, did he say that? Don’t know, don’t have time to verify it, especially as it’s undated. But I like the principle of it… too bad it will never be implemented.

Plus, now, it’s a moot point… I’d have loved to have been a fly on the wall and find out what kind of buttkissing and destructive deals were made to push this through.😦

  135. I am very sorry for your loss PMM. My thoughts are with you and your family. Safe trip.

  136. I bought a Rubbermaid bath mat at, I think, amazon, you can’t find them much in stores, the chinese make those dangerous cheap mats that look real but you slip and die because the mats don’t stay put. Anyways, they had Rubbermaid and Rubber Maid mats. People were buying the Rubber Maid thinking it was Rubbermaid and complaining all over the place that the company didn’t respond, some fell and got hurt, etc etc. They all called Rubbermaid and Rubbermaid told them it wasn’t made by them. This is the kind of shit China pulls and It’s just too bad we keep borrowing money from these criminals because they really should be cut off from selling anything in the USA without a hefty tariff and a warning label.

  137. You mean like that town named Usa China.

  138. I always check these days for point of origin for everything I spend my paltry money on, mainly because of what you’ve documented Uppity. One reason among many that I do not shop at WalMart. That being said, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find anything that has been manufactured in North America.

  139. DE, thats a bummer about the NB shoes. Uppity is right, Merrell shoes are great.

Does anyone know what the budget cuts will pertain to? I looked but couldn’t see, one article talked about defense.

  140. Does anyone know what the budget cuts will pertain to?

I’ll take a shot in the dark. Old people and middle class. But definitely NOT any congressional perks. Social security but not that free 100% pension Congress Critter Screwyouall will get after serving one term. Medicare, but not that golden health insurance Congress Critter Fuckyouall is getting for practically free.

Anybody want to bet against my guess?

  141. socal they claim that the medicare cuts will not be for benefits, but for providers. That means the doctors and hospital must take a cut. But the problem is, will they? Or will they just stop accepting Medicare? I mean, if Medicare isn’t going to pay…..why should they accept Medicare? Why not just accept private insurance?

  142. How can they possibly reconcile Obamacare (UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE FOR EVERYONE!!!) with cuts to Medicare????? It.Does.Not.Make.Sense

  143. As the debt ceiling/budget debate concludes:

some with their own eyes watering, Clinton went on. “We do it, each one of us, against difficult odds. We do it because we care about our country. Some of us are right, and some of us are not. Some of us are ready, and some of us are not…. “Some of us know what we will do on day one, and some of us haven’t thought that through.”

“This is one of the most important elections we’ll ever face,” Clinton continued after a long pause, her cracking voice barely audible at times over the clicking shutters. “So as tired as I am and as difficult as it is to keep up what I try to do on the road, like occasionally exercise, trying to eat right—it’s tough when the easiest thing is pizza…. “I just believe…. “…so strongly in who we are as a nation. I’m going to do everything I can to make my case, and then the voters get to decide.”

We are about to see the final gasps of breath for the New Deal….elections do have consequences.

  144. I really have a desire to go to KOS and HUFF-PO and other sites and scream and swear and spew all over their blogs!! Alas, their moderators would never let me through. They and they alone are responsible. I am obviously very angry.

  145. Exactly right about their moderators. Although moderators is too polite a term. Censors seems about right.

  146. Obama to FDR and LBJ…”F off”.

  147. Now all over the TV and internets democrats are crying about how the President gave in. Ha, well you old people and sick people and middle class people, he doesn’t need your actual vote as long as he has the media to tell you he won. He will “win” again exactly the same way.

  148. Imust, do you read Glenn Greenwald? You’ll like him, I think: http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/
The first two pieces set out his view of how BO sold out liberal-Dem ideals.

  149. Greenwald’s email responding to someone who claimed BO had no choice: http://ggdrafts.blogspot.com/2011/08/email-to-john-cole.html

  150. Obama in trouble with his base — http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/60343_Page3.html

Anyone think his base will abandon him over this? I don’t.

  151. NES- what did they say a few weeks ago? They sent a message they were disappointed but would still, reluctantly, vote for him.
    Putzes!
