Sunday Moon Music Open Thread

Sunday. Relax.  I thought a thread with songs with “moon” in the title would be a nice tribute to Mr. Armstrong. Here’s one

Did you know there is a Blue Moon coming up?

Any others?  This is your open thread. And be sure to be here tomorrow too! Mcnorman has a great post lined up with some information that is very important to us all!

  1. LOL a certain penguin “stole” my idea! At least he picked different songs! Get out of my head Oswald!

  2. ‘Digital pil’l with chip inside gets the “yes” nod from the FDA

    http://money.cnn.com/2012/08/03/technology/startups/ingestible-sensor-proteus/index.htm?source=cnn_bin

I see a lot of use for something like this and much of it is not good.

  3. mcnorman, some of the comments over at that link are spot-on. I also doubt that “forgetting to take your pills” is the primary use for this technology. Someone raised an interesting point:

How long do they retain their memory? Is it solid state where literally millions of them will accumulate at waste water treatment plants retaining identifying and medical information of every person who took a number 2 in their district?

  4. One of my mom’s favorites:

  5. Oh yeah? Well my grandfather liked this one:

  6. Believe me Sophie, I see nothing good in this.

  7. Everything will be documented and monitored.

  8. I love my relaxing Sunday’s.
The gk starts back to School Tuesday. No busse’s this time..😯

  9. oh yeah? Well…..I always liked these!

(but we call them Scooter Pies here.)

  10. Surprised you missed this:

  11. Another oldie:

  12. If your gonna have deep fried Moon Pies you might as well have some beer to wash them down.

  13. Ok, I am getting hungry looking at the MoonPies. Also need an RC cola with peanuts.

  14. How about the #1 song in July 1969?

  15. Scooter Pies! Yummy! Haven’t had one in years.
    How about this one?

  16. Whoo Hoo!! Way to go, imust, posting Elton John!!

  17. Couldn’t resist throwing in the Eric Clapton/Jeff Beck version of Blue Moon

  18. Yes Sophie! Love Elton! Also love CCR, thanks PMM!

  19. What a summer that was. Imagine, the moon landing happened right after Woodstock:

  20. Drive by…!!!

Ok. How about an Uppityite Virtual Dance?!

Go on, get up and dance with me, I dare you….

  21. So many great old songs! Love them all. imust, my Mom always loved that Andy Williams song also. Love that Van Morrison song, so jazzy. lakerwade says that Van Morrison & Jim Morrison actually sang together on stage once. They did Gloria. Anthony, laker put up a Clapton/John Mayall song last nite.

  22. WhyNot? glad to see you. Hope all is well.

  23. I LOVE that one, Why Not! Good to see you.

  24. Well, I’ve been absent – and here’s the story –

When Whynot was driving around looking for Uppity, the car was acting up a little. So she picked me up, and whenever the car stalled, she had me push it from behind! So I’m back home now – I really needed a shower!

haha actually my computer worked fine at my mom’s house, but I got home on Wednesday morning, and I could no longer connect tothe internet. I researched and checked all the steps they told me to. Didn’t work I went out and bought a new modem. Didn’twork. I went back out and bought a new router. Didn’t work. = – said something about I needed to enable javascript (which I must have!) in IE. So I tried firefox and could get on line. What a process!!!

  25. Thanks socal – and everyone…

Yep, I’m FINE. “Freedom is just another word for nothin’ left to lose.”

(Took long enough for me to get that. lol.) I’m even breathing “free” today, it seems. I like it!

Thanks again. It and I will be just FINE.

  26. Just thought I would drop by and announce it’s raining like hell and Angi’s making creme brulee.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

  27. So she picked me up, and whenever the car stalled, she had me push it from behind! So I’m back home now – I really needed a shower!

…damned, Lorac, we had a deal! You weren’t going to tell them about me having YOU push the car… and I wasn’t going to tell them about how you have some of the best sweat glands I’ve come across – in my whole life!

  28. DE are you in the path of the hurricane?

  29. P.S. NES will be so j. lol.

  30. A storm is coming up here too. Guess I’d better log off and get back to some things I need to get done.

  31. socal – Didn’t see that. GREAT vid! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Guess we Clapton fans just can’t resist posting his vids

  32. Thank you, PMM, for the “moon tribute to Mr Armstrong.”

He made the moon real for me that day and I have never forgotten that moment – when I marveled at the reality of that.

All of the songs sure bring back memories.

  33. Angi’s making creme brulee.

While this is probably sacrilegious to post here and will likely get me dumped into moderation, imustadmit, I like creme brulee better than pie. DE, you are so very lucky.

  34. Creme Brulee.
    I am SOOO jealous DE.

  35. whynot – lol!

  36. imustadmit, I like creme brulee better than pie.

    Now you’ve done it…….

  37. Consider it a warning……………..

  38. Creme brulee PIE

  39. Damn it. How did I forget? Today is woman’s equality day. Nice of them to pass a resolution and do not one damn thing to advance actual EQUALITY.
    http://www.nwhp.org/resourcecenter/equalityday.php

Wish I had the energy and snark skills to write a post. Sorry. 92 years since we won the vote and still we have not equality.

  40. On Women’s Equality Day:

  41. Well….at least we’re equal for one day…..NOW GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN AND MAKE ME A SAMMICH!!

  42. And I know that everyone wants to know what our “This is What a Feminist Looks Like” President has to say about Women’s Equality Day.
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/08/24/presidential-proclamation-women-s-equality-day-2012

  43. I call upon the people of the United States to celebrate the achievements of women and recommit to realizing gender equality in this country.

    WORM: WWTBQ?

  44. Who the F*%k does he think he is??? *#&*#*#*!
The original, as proposed by Bella Abzug, does not need him- or any other pres. Dirty lying cheating sack of steaming buffalo sh*t!
    From the original declaration

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that August 26th of each year is designated as Women’s Equality Day, and the President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation annually in commemoration of that day in 1920, on which the women of America were first given the right to vote, and that day in 1970, on which a nationwide demonstration for women’s rights took place.

GRRRRRR! What a friggin nerve- he lies, he cheats, he denigrates and steals the election from Hillary and then has the NERVE! The GALL! to take it upon himself to make a declaration?????

  45. Ok then. Mcnorman has a wonderful post ready for tomorrow. Tues is the R convention- (Monday got postponed or called off or delayed lol- it got Isaaced) Anyway-
Pipe up now. The question has been put-
“Will we have live blogging of the convetnion(s)? When I
say live-blogging, I mean basically what we often do with SOTU speeches and
the like, which is to heckle in the spirit of Mystery Science Theatre 3000.”

I refer the motion to the committee, amended as follows “Keeping in mind that if we live blog- we will be making fun and heckling the speeches- NOT ONE ANOTHER.”
I am going out for dinner at a friend’s, will be back later to tally votes.

  46. PMM, for comparison, here’s Bill Clinton’s proclamation in 1993
    http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=23724

  47. I like the live blog idea. Will we pick certain speeches to live blog or the whole day/evening?

  48. Will we have live blogging of the convetnion(s)?

    Drunk-blogging could be fun

  49. Why must it always be about him?…..nevermind….I know….

  50. Obviously, I’m for the idea of live-heckling. If I recall correctly, drinking is advised.

  51. I never get tired of watching Hillary spank his scrawny ass

  52. Obviously, I’m for the idea of live-heckling. If I recall correctly, drinking is advised.

I think it should be mandatory

  53. OMG. If she ran as an independent right now, she would win in a landslide. She is the ONLY one who is speaking to the issues on the side of regular citizens.

  54. Yes, Barack, the women in my life are ready to vote. All we need is a candidate.

  55. Maybe Barry thinks the women need to “settle down” before they can vote?

  56. Yes, live blogging!

  57. Yes Sophie, she would. The obstacles would be that

    1) the (now Progressive) Dems would do all they could to prevent that from happening, and

    2) even if she succeeded because of an overwhelming majority with the popular vote, the 2 party system (🙄 ) would make sure that she (or any other third party candidate) would accomplish nothing. Ever.

It kills me that they think we actually believe their in kabuki theater.

  58. The Ayes have it! Live blogging it is then. We shall need the obligatory shot game as well.
Sophie put forward the original motion, so if you would be so kind as to take charge of that post please?
Now what words should require a shot? Free Market? Job creators?
Damn, we need a convention Bingo board!

  59. Mods- check your emails please.

Anthony- agree- the two party system will do everything they can to keep any woman, but especially the smartest one, Hillary, out of the top slot. The Progs were just so damn dumb in 08. and 09, 10, 11……..
The sad part about the kabuki theater is that there are so many who DO believe in it. They believe anything the lying msm tells them- direct from the respective party headquarters.

  60. Sending good thoughts to FF and DE- stay safe- hope Isaac passes you by and hope you don’t catch anything from all the politicians that will be wandering your state for the next two plus months. (And yes, I said “that will” instead of “who will” as I am not sure they are not all animatronics)

  61. Oooh, convention bingo board! Fun! Other words besides Moms:
vouchers, tax relief, family values, reform, Navy, missile-defense system, bloated budget, bring jobs back to America.

  62. Yes, stay safe DE & FF, and Fredster in AL.

  63. OK. PMM- I have the image and already started changing it up.

According to THIS LINK, the Monday schedule is only 10 minutes long (from what I can see here), so that will give me plenty of time to p’shop the Bingo card.

  64. The imbecile is already blaming his supporters in the event he loses….
    Here’s his latest email:

Last week, when I was in Iowa, voters told me they were feeling it. The numbers back it up: Our side is getting outspent 2-to-1 on the air there.
But the folks asking me about this don’t want an explanation — they want to know what I’m going to do about it.
And the fact is that solving this problem is up to you ….
We’re losing this air war right now.
I don’t have as much time to campaign this time as I did in 2008, so this whole thing is riding on you making it happen. (bolding mine)

  65. jobs, middle class, freedom, rights, God, repeal heath care (ObamaCare), repeal medicare, repeal welfare, deregulate, tax cut, strong military, debt ceiling, deficit

And something anti-government (not anti-American, because that would be unPatriotic).

  66. Oh my- we are on a roll already! This is going to be so much fun!
McNorman is up tomorrow- don’t miss it!
Looking forward to seeing what happens this week- and of course- we have the DNC with Big Dawg later on- definitely will be live blogging for that one!

  67. OOOH Tuesday night orange julius boo hoo boehner and Sanitary pad are speaking! I would have to be good and drunk before sanitarium- or I might kill the tv – which I definitely want to have handy for the ebst speech of the entire election season.
When exactly does Big Dawg speak? Wait, what? I have to wait another whole week? Is there football in between?

We need food for this love blogging thing. Uppity usually has the popcorn concession. I have tons of tomatoes- so Tomato, basil and fresh Mozzarella salad for sure. (though I should hold some back to get nice and rotten for the fraud’s speech- NAH- waste of good tomatoes)

  68. big government…..Ronald Reagan…..job creators…..tax and spend…..Ronald Reagan…..free enterprise….entrepreneurs…..Ronald Reagan……Obamacare….Ronald Reagan

  69. Okay, now the drinks. Good idea PMM for Tuesday night, OJ screwdrivers in honor of Boehner……what about for sanitary pad? Bloody Marys?

  70. lol, imust.

and demin, denim, denim, backpacks, and denim.

  71. Strawberry cheesecake shooters for Scott Walker.

  72. What about a drink for Chris Christie? Something Fat Tuesdayish, a Hurricane?

  73. LOL on the drink ideas.
When I saw Ronald Reagan I thought we were back to Barack Bingo again- he is always channeling Ronnie Raygun- and various other dead presidents.
Let’s not forget War on Wimminz, class warfare……
    LOL this is ALREADY fun!

  74. You know PMM, we gotta make it fun! We’ve got to take our lemons and make lemonade! Hey another drink!

  75. Exactly! When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life gives you limes, make margaritas.

Christie strikes me as a highball kind of guy.

  76. Turns out Santorum is a dark beer guy. I thought he’d prefer something more like a frothy mix.

  77. Santorum could also be Frangelico and Holy Water.

I’ll give Christie THIS ONE, now that Ted’s dead. (I used to think of Teddy Boy whenever I drank it)

  78. I tweeted Barack a few sharp blows on the Women’s Equality Day hypocrisy. Check out @NoEmptySuits if you’re so inclined. (PMM & FF, thanks xx for the retweets.)

  79. Here you go NES and Anthony:

(Forgot to to post this earlier.)

Analysis of election factors points to Romney win, University of Colorado study says

A University of Colorado analysis of state-by-state factors leading to the Electoral College selection of every U.S. president since 1980 forecasts that the 2012 winner will be Mitt Romney.

Bickers of CU-Boulder and Michael Berry of CU Denver. Their prediction model stresses economic data from the 50 states and the District of Columbia, including both state and national unemployment figures as well as changes in real per capita income, among other factors.

“Based on our forecasting model, it becomes clear that the president is in electoral trouble,” said Bickers, also director of the CU in DC Internship Program.

According to their analysis, President Barack Obama will win 218 votes in the Electoral College, short of the 270 he needs. And though they chiefly focus on the Electoral College, the political scientists predict Romney will win 52.9 percent of the popular vote to Obama’s 47.1 percent, when considering only the two major political parties.

Here’s the money shot on prediction model’s reliability

“For the last eight presidential elections, this model has correctly predicted the winner,” said Berry.
