Happy 4th of July!

This is the most moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that we’ve heard in quite a while.

That’s because Marlana Vanhoose is no ordinary teen. According to Kentucky Sports, the Paintsville high school student is blind and was born with Cytomegalovirus, a virus that can cause developmental disabilities.

When she sang the anthem at a University of Kentucky women’s basketball game last February at the age of 16, the audience wasn’t prepared for her colossal talent.

Happy 4th of July Uppityites! Hope you all enjoy your BBQs, parades, picnics and patriotic pyrotechnic displays! After all of that, don’t forget to have yourself a nice big slice of good ol’, All-American Apple PIE!

Or two slices……

  1. TY imust. You’ve covered it all. The video starts slow and builds very nicely to show a spirit of America which resides resolutely within peoples’ hearts; and obviously the pie is done to perfection, and pc.

    Happy 4th Uppities!

  2. When I was in high school, there were Bicentennial Minutes on TV. Every night for about 2-1/2 years before 7/4/76, we would get a minute of: 200 years ago today…

I guess they were hoping that with a short history lesson every night, most Americans could celebrate the bicentennial slightly less ignorantly. Yes, even than as now, you could take a mic on the street and ask anyone what we celebrate today and they’d give anything but the right answer!

  3. I never pass up a chance to post Elton John!

  4. I love this one too. About (OMG) 30 years ago, I saw him at MSG, and when he did this live, I felt chills.
