Wasn’t it just yesterday we were ringing in 2013? Maybe it’s me, but it really does seem like time flies, even when you’re not having fun!

So time to think about those New Year’s Resolutions! On second thought, maybe we should think about whether we fulfilled LAST YEAR’S resolutions! Toooo depressing….I know what it’s time for…….

It’s time for the Year in Review stories!

Miley Cyrus’s MTV Video Music Awards performance. The launch of “Lean In.” Apologies from Paula Deen and Lance Armstrong. Walter White’s exit and the entrance of the Netflix series “House of Cards.” What do they all have in common? More Americans say these pop culture moments were more forgettable than memorable.

What do you think? Is that list accurate? Complete? What were your most forgettable moments of 2013….if you can remember 😉

  1. My how time fly’s. 😀

  2. The good thing about time flying is that the next thing you know, the old Mayflower van will be moving the Incompetent One out of the White House so our real leader can move back in. Can’t wait!!

  3. Interesting. For New Year’s Eve plans, the article says:
    54% at home
20% friend or family member’s house.
8% bar, restaurant, other organized event.

That leaves 18% who either declined to answer or don’t know/haven’t decided.

How do Uppityites stack up with the general Yahoo polled public?
I’m with the 20% but would prefer to be with the 54.

  4. I’m with the 54% but would prefer to be with the 8%!

  5. I’m with the 54%, and wouldn’t trade for any of the other options. Nothing like a cozy, romantic home-cooked meal with the finest of wines.

  6. My New Year’s resolutions for 2014, 2015, and 2016: get Hillary elected. It is the great unfinished business.

  7. imust, Here’re some of my observations, in response to your query:
    — On the pop culture front, Breaking Bad ranks first.
    — On the historical, political front: 1) the election of the refreshing Pope “Who-Am-I-To-Judge?” Francis; and 2) the normalization of gay marriage.
    — On the hopeful front: Obama found responsible for biggest liar (“If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep your healthcare plan; period.”

  8. Please pray for the rapid implosion of Chris Christie: a recent (reputable) poll puts him even with Hillary for 2016. Un-frickin’-believable.

  9. NES, great memorable moments! Any “forgettable” moments? I like the birth of Prince George as memorable, most forgettable, Obamacare rollout, most hopeful…what you said!

Don’t worry about Crispy Cream….Hillary can beat him with both hands tied behind her back (and you can bet the press will try to do that!)

  10. i saw an article about that poll. wtf?

  11. I was with the 20% this year and it’s always an enjoyable experience and the food and drink were superb, especially the lobster tails on Christmas Eve and the lasagna on Christmas Day.

The crackpot far right will do Christie in for her. They can’t stand anybody who isn’t completely batshit insane, backwards as pithecanthropus erectus and dumb as a brick.

NES, AMC is doing a Breaking Bad marathon back to back. At noon each day they are showing all the episodes in sequence. I am watching it in deference to your recommendation and must say I am enjoying it in between winces.

As for me, I’ll be all to happy to kiss 2013 goodbye for a whole bunch of valid reasons.

  12. Breaking:
NY Times massive, comprehensive investigation into the attack in Benghazi

I just started reading it…it’s long.

  13. Breaking Bad is one of my few non guilty pleasures, it’s just so good.
Never got the Skylar hate from so many of the fans; my guess is that the haters are barely out of adolescence males who think that marriage should be a dictatorship, not a democracy.
Geez, do I have to bring feminism into everything?
    Yes, I guess I do.

  14. Ok, some of these are pretty darn funny:

    NES, Hell Yeah!

  16. Hell, Yeah is right!

  17. Upps, it’s terrific you’re watching and enjoying Brealng Bad. Seasons 3-6 are especially great. You won’t be disappointed — not if you like the substance and skilfullness of Shakespearan tragedies (and I know you do!). Envy you the marathon sessions.

  18. imust, in response to your query: the most forgettable moment of 2013 was the reelection of O.

  19. Yayyyy freespirit and Sweet Sue!

  20. Sophie, that link was hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.

  21. @NES, don’t we wish we could forget about that. At least he’s been on vacation and has his pravda on vaca as well.

  22. Y’know, no matter how many years I’ve been here seeing this picture, Civil Disobedience Cat never gets old.

  23. I would like to say here and not that they ONLY thing we learned from the whole Phil Robertson (Duck Dynasty) fiasco is that most people in America who use the Internet have no fucking clue what the right to free of speech entails.

  24. Sounds interesting. I think I understand what you are saying, but can you expand on that thought a bit? (A post would be most excellent!)

  25. AS you wish, Your Pieness.
