It’s all Bernie’s Fault

Not because he ran against Hillary (or even how he ran against Hillary although that is an excellent argument for another post) but because he is a failure as a leader.

Here’s a guy who started out with a massive social media following of the Professional Left and those who followed them. It wasn’t as large as Takei, but still large and similar followers.

Without the pre-existing 25-year feud the media’s been having with Hillary, Bernie was free to campaign unfettered and un-vetted. The media only stepped in to accuse Hillary people of not knowing the meaning of Socialism and of red-baiting (because obviously, if you’re for universal health care and roads, you also want an authoritarian leader and to wait in line for toilet paper).

Bernie’s rallies were just like Trump’s—where he’d continuously remind you that your life is miserable and the Democratic party and your country sucked and how there was something inherently wrong with you if you were happy or satisfied. Status quo people are happy and satisfied. If you had ever worked on a political project in your life, you were the establishment. Those people who for decades had phone-banked and stuffed envelopes, who now provided the very forums where he could speak, were establishment scum. The people of Planned Parenthood and Human Rights Campaign, who had worked their asses off for decades to get a seat at the table were now, because they had a seat at the table, establishment. It was important for Bernie to get and keep people angry and he is very good at that.

He taught them nothing. To this day, they remain vastly ignorant about our political process. They didn’t know that parties select their nominees through primaries that are largely limited to members of the party. Even though a volunteer group set up a website that explained how to vote for Bernie. It contained detailed instructions on where and how to register and provided deadlines, by state. Bernie could have taken some time out of being jealous over Clinton’s speeches to explain how that worked. Instead of flocking to rallies like people used to go to Grateful Dead concerts, they could have missed just one to go register to vote. Not one to let an opportunity go unexploited, Bernie instead claimed that the primaries were rigged. For that, may he Bern In Hell.

Bernie was the guy who ran for class president by promising free ice cream for lunch and Friday afternoons off. His followers never asked him how. The media never asked him how. It wasn’t until the NY primary rolled around and the NY Daily News got around to asking him how and he stammered and then admitted he hadn’t thought that far. But it was too late. His followers were already true believers who thought reciting a bunch of acronyms and bumper stickers was indeed issues-based policy discussion. Meanwhile, even though Hillary had a website packed with sound, achievable policies on all of the issues, they said she had no positions on the issues and her supporters were just voting their vaginas. (No one does sexism and misogyny quite like the Left of the Left.) To this day, a good 80% of them don’t know what TPP stands for or what about it they don’t like. (Fun fact: they adore PM Justin Trudeau of Canada and laud him as a True Progressive™ yet Trudeau is for both TPP and the Keystone XL Pipeline!)

He failed to teach them about coalition building and how to organize. They were merely insufferable purity trolls running on Red Bull. Although, because they are adept at social media, had a few assists from the right wing, and weren’t bound by tired old rules of common decency, they were able to get pretty far.

He fanned the flames of poor sportsmanship and team playing. A party he spent a lifetime criticizing graciously allowed him to run as one of us. He even admitted he was using us for the money, the infrastructure, and the media exposure. For our largess, he stole our data and turned around and sued us for noticing. Things only deteriorated from there. Not once did Hillary go after him with a negative smear or ad.

Bernie promised them a revolution. Evolution takes time. Revolution is instant gratification. He reinforced their belief that the process was stupid, wrong, or rigged and must change to their demands without anyone needing to do any of the work to effect that change. And only a set of rules that would benefit Bernie and no one else would be gratifying. That’s why Bernie is for open primaries, against Super delegates but sadly silent on the most undemocratic process of all: caucuses.

In the end, all Bernie taught them was to keep their anger hot. For that, we can always count on them to show up for a rally or a protest, although the risk of a misspelled sign or a violent riot is high.

He taught them nothing about the big picture or the greater good or seven generations ahead or about coalitions and dancing with them who brung you.

For years, we have been threatened with SCOTUS and The End Civilization As We Know It over far more benign opponents. Look where we are now. The presidency will be occupied by a buffoon who ran literally using Hitler as a model and who hires the least qualified, most rapacious people. Both houses of Congress remain controlled by the Stupid Party. SCOTUS is hosed for 30 years. We are one state legislature away from a Constitutional amendment by people who believe in Alex Jones. This is that nightmare they have always threatened us with. The one upside is: we are now impervious to their threats. None are as dangerous as those who have nothing to lose. Or as free. For example, I am free to vote against every single candidate Bernie or his fans endorse for the rest of my life. And I will.

Many factors went into giving us Herr Buffoon and IMHO, the media was the worst (I’ll address them at another time). But here was a guy who did no small amount of unnecessary damage in service to his ego. I cannot do enough to repay him.

  1. Bernie certainly needs to shut the hell up.

  2. It was sexism and misogyny from the get go.

  3. Excellent post Sophie and I’m with you all the way.

If the Dem party lets Sanders anywhere near a leadership position in the party then I’m done with them. He needs to be primaried in 2018 for his Senate seat by a real Democrat.

  4. Frankly Bernie’s Movement always struck me as more of a Gathering of the Vibes club–that his followers didn’t want his candidacy to end because they wanted to continue to have rallies and bonfires with guitars.

  5. Superb post, Sophie.

  6. Bernie who?

I think that white pigeon took him away to Netherlands.

Bernie should run for El Presidente of Cooobah.

  7. Good news for once. (I know this was posted above, here are some more details.)

    One for the good guys!!

Army Halts Construction Of Dakota Access Pipeline
The “historic” decision comes as thousands of protesters gather on the Standing Rock Sioux reservation.

OCETI SAKOWIN CAMPGROUND, N.D. ― Federal authorities have halted construction of the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline amid growing protests that were expected to draw some 2,000 U.S. military veterans.

The Department of the Army has denied the final easement required for the $3.8 billion project to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota, it announced Sunday. Instead, it will conduct an Environmental Impact Statement to examine the impacts and explore alternative routes, it said.

  8. Thank you Sophie and a strong YES is Bernie’s fault…

Shadow: “Bernie… El Presidente of Cooobah”….

  9. Bernie was and is all words, yells, and no details, no accomplishments.
His followers were and are mean-spirited attention-seeking bullies. And sexist from the get-go, as is their idol. He used the Democratic Party for his own ends and repeatedly backstabbed the best candidate in our lifetimes. Then he poodles up to #tRump for a $10 minimum wage yet he’d screamed at Hillary for her $12 proposal.

    He should be shunned.

  10. Excellent post. You didn’t say it but I will — Fuck Bernie and his minions.

Gray-days, yes. people should run for office (apparently Nikki Haley got inspired to run after listening to Hillary speak at her univ. Wrong party —

trixta, yes, people who voted for him are despicable and should assume responsibility for their choice. Italy’s referendum went south; the white nationalist people won. Everywhere in Europe there is a rise in white nationalism and anti-refugee/immigrant attitudes. I never thought it would come here so fast and be successful so quickly. There need not have been the desperation that those people feel at the moment here. Yet, people here voted for a buffoon like Trump and showed their depravity toward the non-whites who by and large function well and contribute to this society. Especially now that we understand that economic anxiety was not the prime reason that made them vote for the Buffoon, we know that they wanted to stick it to the non-whites.

  11. Shadow, good news! Do you have an URL for the quote you posted?

  12. Shadow, I read somewhere that if Obama made Standing Rock a national monument, this issue would not rise again. Would he?

  13. Bernie Sanders: another opportunist, narcissist and under qualified penis. Just like the BO and the Trump…

boy!, they seem to spawn fairly easy these days in the political arena…or maybe through the centuries, they always have…

  14. Ah Sophie, so much of what I’m thinking, so eloquently stated.

  15. Now you know why Ivanka was sitting in on the buffoon’s meeting withe Jap. PM.

  16. Great essay, Sophie. I think that in some ways Sanders was the worst element of this campaign, simply because he was an unnecessary element. The media is awful, but they are just there. The far Right is awful, but we knew that. What we didn’t need was a self-serving windbag who decided that this would be a great time to launch a campaign to demonize Hillary Clinton, whom he knew, and had voted with about 96% of the time. And we should not think that he wasn’t goaded on by the usual far Left CDS people in the party.

I wrote something at the end of the last thread about a few pages I happened to read today in Philip Roth’s ‘I Married a Communist.”. It is 1948, and the young narrator of the story is arguing with his father because he wants to vote for Henry Wallace, and the father keeps telling him that this is a big mistake, that he should vote for Truman; that a third party vote is a waste of time. He tells him that he doesn’t realize how absolutely awful it was to have Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover;; to have soulless Republicans running the country. Here was a man who, like so many at the time, knew how much of a difference there was between the parties, because he had gone through the Depression, and had seen how much FDR had done to alleviate it. My father once was telling me about that election; and I asked how Truman surprised everyone by winning; and he said that he thought that enough people stopped to realize that they really didn’t want the Republicans back in the White House. But that was a different era; and no one seems to remember five minutes ago, much less back to the George W. Bush Administration.

Sanders had no interest in the Democratic Party, except as a vehicle for his ego-filled run. Any halfway perceptive person could have seen that. And he would not stop, would he? Rant afer rant against Hillary, providing the argument that Trump would never have thought of on his own; poisoning the minds of ignorant and credulous young and even older people against Hillary. After all the horrible damage he did, which we certainly have talked about for months here, he gleefully seizes on the Trump victory as a vindication of him, as he tries to drive the Democratic Party off a final cliff. He was the absolutely perfect vehicle for the Russians and Assange and the Far Right Republicans. No Democrat would have ever attacked Hillary like that, and stay in the race months after it was over, just to keep doing it. His supporters were the perfect dupes for those forces. Unlike the father in Roth’s novel, they know nothing about history, or how bad it can really get. Sanders is veritably insane; not on a clinical level, but in his doctrinaire worldview, and his pathological quest for to prove himself right, at the cost of everything else. If you want to find the one factor, which if it had been absent, would have guaranteed Hillary’s victory, it was Sanders. And he’s even now trying to make things worse.

  17. I agree, excellent post Sophie…

  18. More on what I mentioned in the previous thread about Comet pizzeria in DC. Incident from a Trump crazy who believed the fake stories out of FB and repeated by Trump surrogates like Flynn and took matters into his own hands. That is a family restaurant with kids in there, for God’s sake. What have they done to this country?

  19. Austria, yes AUSTRIA, did what we could not do here at home. There is hope, pm.

“Austrian voters roundly rejected on Sunday a candidate vying to become the first freely elected far-right head of state in Europe since World War Two, halting at least temporarily the wave of populism sweeping Western democracies.”

  20. trixta, Austria goes by the popular vote.

  21. Sophie:
You just said it, we do not have a democracy as long as we don’t go with the popular vote…
    EC got to go…

  22. I read more on that pizzagate and it is highly disturbing. It is as though all the poorly educated nutjobs mental cases in the US have congregated on place like FB, Reddit, and other conspiracy mongering places and voted for Trump. This is a zombie explosion and they have keys to the WH or at least they think so. Regular Republicans should denounce this trend completely if they want to keep this country from imploding. This whole thing is crazy led by crazy people (Trump, Flynn, Jones, Bannon, Conway, and every other Trump surrogate).

  23. Excellent and spot on post – he lost by a big margin and yet he stayed in the race well beyond his time and acted like he was doing Hillary and the country a favor by getting out. He never once told his supporters to stop the nonsense to stop the hate online and stop heckling Hillary’s speeches. His asinine supporters voted for Jill Stein, Gary Johnson & wrote him in. I know some of these personally. Most of them are white men (shocker) Hillary won the popular vote had a much more valid argument for a contested convention in 08 and she conceded sooner than Bernie. Let that sink in

  24. Epic, Sophie. Epic.

  25. “Austria goes by the popular vote.”

  26. So, the guy with the gun terrorizing Comet Pizzeria is “deranged”. When will the media admit that Trump, Flynn and all their ratfuckers are too? They gave us the deranged guy with the gun. Thankfully, no one was physically harmed.

  27. pm, that pizzagate story is one that has emerged from the fringiest of conspiracy theory communities. It’s only the tip of the iceberg. The crazy people you mention who are part of Trump’s inner circle have been spewing out this and other fantastical stories for years. This is why I said in a past thread that the outrageous platform of the Republican Party and the vile rhetoric during the convention did not surprise me one bit.

About Bernie…he did a lot of damage to Hillary in some of the swing states and provided Trump with ammunition for the GE. FK Bernie!

  28. Thanks Fixit Fairy!

  29. PM

    Would he?

    My guess is, no.

I’m not sure but maybe Congress has to approve our natl. monuments too? Obama will be out of office in less than a month…oh, the thought makes me panic.

  30. Excellent post, Sophie. Every bit of it is well deserved by that traitor Sanders.

Another thing I wish the current amnesiac Dem. leadership would remember, is that Sanders raised almost nothing at all for any other Dem. candidate, while his favorite target, Hillary, raised tens of millions. How can they even be considering giving this parasite any voice or place at all in the party?

  31. Sophie, excellent post. Bernie and his minions owe a debt their sorriness will never be able to repay.

  32. OMG, that pizza place is a few blocks from where my daughter lives. And the gunman is from Salisbury, Elizabeth Dole’s hometown. I’m just nauseous.

  33. The spineless Dems in Congress made Sanders head of Dem Party Outreach. We should all keep calling and emailing our Congresscritters to demand they kick him out.

The Vermont independent will be the chair of “outreach” for Senate Democrats next Congress, Senate Democratic Leader-elect Chuck Schumer of New York announced Wednesday. He will be the first independent to hold a party leadership position since the modern leadership structure began in the early 20th Century, according to the Senate Historical Office.

“Real change doesn’t take place on Capitol Hill,” Sanders said in a statement. “It takes place in grassroots America. It takes place when millions of working people, young people and senior citizens come together to demand that our government works for all of us and not just the 1 percent. When the people lead, the leaders follow.”

Hey Bernie, the people voted, but the leaders didn’t follow. And you damn well are supposed to make some change on Capitol Hill.

  34. Vote count for our girl.

    Hillary 65,316,724

    Douche 62,682,863

Hillary leads now with 2,597,156 votes. The winner!

  35. I’m not sure Schumer didn’t put Bernie in that position so that he could be watched. Either way somebody needs to start bringing the hammer down on Bernie and tell him to shut his mouth. I truly hope that the Dems eliminate Bernie in 2018, pull all his funding and everything. It might be worth having a liberal Republican from Vermont instead of Bernie.

  36. Agree 1,000% Bernie’s nasty attacks on Hillary to blame.
Agree 1,000% misogyny was underlying Bernie and enough rural/urban Americans to make a difference in votes.

  37. If you want to truly understand the depth of craziness on the Pizzagate nonsense, have a look at this link which was posted on FB by my own bloody NEPHEW!!! He is in the UK but definitely a conspiracy theorist about all sorts of things. I reported it to Facebook as false news.

  38. re: trixta at 11:05 PM

Yes, isn’t it bizarre that Austria (birthplace of Hitler) is now of the last holdouts against this rising tide of the extreme right wing in Europe? I’m hoping that Angela Merkel is re-elected in Germany, but I have a German friend who insists that it’s not likely given the sentiment of most people there about her welcoming so many immigrants.

  39. britgirls, what is even more disturbingly insane is that Flynn (picked for Nat. Sec. Advisor for Trump) tweeted about this fake news week before election and last night his lunatic son is tweeting ‘prove it false’. People purported to be involved in this conspiracy are all honorable people and the Trump supporters spreading this fake news are crazy. I hope the restaurant owner, the Podesta brothers and the Clintons(?), bring a law suit against these mfers such as Flynn and bleed them dry.

  40. Xenophobia is the new Austerity.
Where the miserly believe they are losing out and they must protect what they have at all costs.
Like children in a sandbox hoarding sand never realizing the sandbox is actually located on a beach.

  41. Trump Chump “Deplorable Jeff” now worries about losing Medicare.

Yep, DJ, it looks like you may spend your golden years eating Fancy Feast, and bartering for health care from the local unlicensed quack.

But hey, dude, you Trumped That B!+&#, and showed those uppity wimmin and uppity coloreds and arrogant libtards that White Doodz Rool, and isn’t that the most important thing? 😈

  42. I was looking at DU and found this: Philadelphia launches voluntary recount after finding major vote total discrepancies…

Since there has been such a hubbub on ‘fake news’ lately, I tried to avoid posting their link to the Palmer Report and googled it for a MSM source…and I could only find less than MSM sources.

Voting, you said it is true in your state? Do you have a good link to post? THX.

  43. At this point I am ready to accept a Kasich or Jeb or Rubio from the electoral college on Dec. 19. I don’t think they will be brave enough to reverse the results and go with the popular vote winner Hillary, for fear all hell will break lose; may be we should take that chance. If not, put someone sane (relatively speaking) like Kasich in there. Get this buffoon and the sewer rats he brought in, out of our lives. 4 years is too long to give him and his crazy nutjobs to ruin the country.

  44. Look at the offspring of the Trump sewer rat appointed at Nat Sec… not any better than the Uday or Qusay Trump offsprings.

  45. Kick ass post Sophie!

  46. Federal judge orders recount of presidential vote in Michigan
By JOSH GERSTEIN 12/05/16 06:10 AM EST

A federal judge acting on a suit brought by Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein has ordered Michigan officials to begin a recount of the votes in that state in last month’s presidential election.

U.S. District Court Judge Mark Goldsmith issued the order Monday morning, just after midnight, insisting that the recount begin by noon Monday.

Stein had followed procedures to demand a recount, but an objection by president-elect Donald Trump triggered a provision in state law that would have delayed the beginning of the recount until Tuesday or Wednesday, possibly jeopardizing its completion by the December end of a critical window for states to transmit the names of electors to the federal government.

  47. With all due respect to William, I think the #1 factor in HRC’s losing the EC vote (though not the popular vote) was the gutting of the Voting Rights Act in 2013. Obama would have lost if he’d had to run under the same conditions in 2008 or 2012 that Hillary did this year.

  48. pm, I love you, but I most certainly am NOT ready to accept a Kasich, a Jeb, or a Rubio. None were on the ballot. Installing someone in the presidency who was not in any way chosen by the people–and didn’t even survive the primary–is not my idea of democracy. And I don’t accept that any of the three are “moderate” just because they seem sane compared to Trump. They would all have very similar agendas to Trump’s and would be especially terrible for women. I think this dude bro move by some electors to vote for a “moderate” Republican is another giant FU to Hillary and all of us who voted for her. Nope.

  49. Brassy, agree with what you say that they are Republicans with an agenda that does not suit us. But Trump and the people he has brought in are far, far more dangerous than these other people and will irreparably harm this country. And the fact that he won the electoral votes the way he did with Russian influence and other shenanigans will be to some extent muted/negated if it is a different republican showing dissension by the EC. That is a good thing. The reality is that there are more Republican EC electors than the Dem ones and they will never go for Hillary despite her popular vote win. It may be easier to convince them to pick another Republican who also ran (I think that is a pre-condition).

  50. The GOP Establishment (GOPe hereafter) may indeed try to maneuver one of their own into the Oval Office, instead of Pumpkinhead, through the EC.

If that fails, I wonder if Pence is their backup plan–the GOPe is sitting on something devastating, and when the time is right, they’ll impeach Pumpkinhead and throw him out of office, and their boy Pence will become Prez. As Brassy would note, that won’t be all that much better for us Hillarians, but it would be great from the GOPe view.

If some of Pumpkinhead’s sandbox fascists riot? That’s why we have the militarized police and the National Guard–and the regular Army if it comes to that, but I doubt it would come to that; most of the Trump Chumps would just grumble in their beer, or other preferred beverages.

  51. And FTR I want the EC to pick Hillary if that is at all possible.

  52. Like Brassy said, None of them are moderate. Let’s not confuse relatively more sane with moderate. Pence actually scares me more than Trump.

However, if your argument is that at least with sane we can go back to our old feuds without the fear of nuclear annihilation, that would be a plausible argument.

My feeling is, if they aren’t going to replace Trump with Hillary, then they (along with us) should be made to suffer Trump.

  53. Though a few of the more extreme Trump Chumps might take the Timothy McVeigh route. 😮

Of course, the “respectable” Right would deny any and all responsibility for encouraging such violent fools. 👿

  54. Yes, I am with Sarandon and Nina Turner now–blow it all the fuck up!

  55. At this point, we need to get rid of Trump and his sewer rats, Russian or otherwise. Everyday that passes by, if his election is let stand, it is acceding our country to a foreign power and a dangerous megalomaniac and kleptocrat. He and his minions will make a mockery of every law you have and the constitution setting precedence. Nip this in the bud while we still have a choice.

  56. Finally some good news for NC!

    McCrory Concedes!

  57. Yes, I am with Sarandon and Nina Turner now–blow it all the fuck up!

I really Sophie is probably speaking metaphorically, and just blowing off steam to boot, but NO!

Too many bozos just want to break stuff already, not so different from that squirrel-bait who wanted to shoot up the pizzeria.

That spirit is much of how Pumpkinhead got elected (apparently elected, at least).

  58. Take a good look at this Trump supporter. He personifies every single one of them and some others who seem reasonable but are not and who used these rubes to perpetuate their nefarious agenda. EC, nip this election result in the bud.

  59. I think that there is a pretty good chance that the Michigan recount, if it includes countimg legitimate provisional ballots, would have Hillary winning. That would be 248 Electoral Votes, with Trump at 290, of course pending the PA, WI, and FL recounts. Even just with the 248, that would provide an opportunity to deny Trump the electoral win, if 25 Republicans switched their vote to Hillary. If enough Republican electors insisted on voting for another Republican, that would create an interesting chaos. There is no way that 249 of them are going to vote for such a person. One of the many dreadful problems which exist in this country, is that Republicans simply refuse to vote for any Democrat, meaning that Hillary cannot get to 270, even with a 2.7 popular million vote margin to support her being President. Now, if some miracle occurred and she won Florida…But I cannot imagine an over 100,000 vote margin possibly being reversed by recount.

  61. It is truly disturbing that the Democrats are joyfully embracing Bernie Sanders. We are truly living in an openly sexist, racist, homophobic, bigoted and xenophobic world. Trump ran and won on a deplorable platform of sexism, racism, homophobia, bigotry and xenophobia. Sanders embraced this message by refusing to acknowledge that sexsim, racism, homophobia, bigotry and xenophobia exists in any real way. It’s not all about income inequality. For example, Wisconsin’s unemployment rate is around 4.1%. The WWC there did not vote for Trump due to economic instability. The Trump vote was all about “Make America White Again.” This unfortunately, is also Bernie’s voter base in the primary. They want to go back to a world of isolationism and all that goes with it. Bernie and his supporters have no problem catering to the sexist, racist, homophobic, bigoted and xenophobia WWC. Like the Clinton team said during that forum, I would rather lose than win using those tactics.

Not everything is based on income inequality. Even the wealthiest minority is still treated as a second class citizen by many whites. That is why Bernie’s revolution failed during the Democratic Primary. That is why he wanted open primaries. The base of the Democratic Party are women, African Americans, immigrants, hispanics and other minorities. All the Democrats will accomplish with a Bernie coup is making sure that no Democrat will be elected to office in the near future. The Democrats need women, African Americans, hispanics, immigrants and other minorities to vote for them in large numbers. This will not happen so long as they follow Bernie Sanders down the WWC income inequality rabbit hole.

I am at the point where I no longer give a damn any more. No party gives a sh!t about what’s important to people like me. For years I have been living in a fantasy world where I beilieved serious inroads were made in the quest for equality. The playing feild is not level for women or minorities and I refuse to pretend that it is to placate some white people in the rust belt that don’t even consider me a human being.

The Democrats last hope is for Obama to take control of the Democratic Party and push Sanders out once and for all.

  62. I have had a Google search set for Hillary for years. The past few days most of the stories are downright horrible about her. I won’t post them.

I just had to stop some women at work, blaming the loss on Hillary, because she was the ‘wrong candidate’. My guess is she was a Bernie supporter. I stopped her right in her tracks and set her straight with facts.

  63. Ivory
Obama would have lost if he’d had to run under the same conditions in 2008 or 2012 that Hillary did this year.

    I agree.

  64. Today at the NYT:
    a must read…

    Where Unfair Voting Practices Begin

  65. Shadowfax, on December 5, 2016 at 11:58 AM said:

“…Philadelphia launches voluntary recount after finding major vote total discrepancies…Voting, you said it is true in your state? Do you have a good link to post? THX.”

The voluntary precinct recount could bring the 0.8 % votes down to the 0.5% required by law for the State to order a full recount throughout …

Voting is it possible? How is it looking?

  66. Any news (but not Faux please) on the lawsuit for recount in FL?

  67. So Hillary spent 18 months of her life campaigning till she dropped (literally), and now, some of the electors that she worked so hard to win are just going to abandon her for John Kasich (apparently the agreed upon savior) who drove every single abortion facility out of Ohio so that it is now impossible for a woman to obtain an abortion for any reason in the entire state. And so far, not a single Trump elector has signed on to this cockamamie “plan”. So he keeps his electors, and she loses some. Perfect. This is what she gave up a year and a half of her life for. This is what we donated and volunteered for.

Women are nothing in this society. Tell me this would even be a thing if Hillary were a man who received 2.7 million more votes than his opponent. Tell me these electors would even THINK of treating a man and his voters like this. This is just infuriating. People who voted for Trump should have to live with the consequences. Unfortunately, we will too, but I would rather DIE than see Hillary disrespected any more. And that is what this is–a big, old FU to Hillary and women everywhere.

  68. So many strange things, as regards Michigan. Jennifer Granholm, former governor there, and strong Hillary supporter, has indicated that there were 75,000 ballots cast in that state which left the topline vote, the Presidential vote, blank, but apparently voted for Democrats down the ticket.

Now, this shows one of two things. Either these votes were not counted correctly, or there were 75,000 people who were so brainwashed by Russians and by Sanders, that they not only did not vote for Stein (she got 51,000 worthless votes), or Johnson (he got more than that), but either just refused to vote for President, or maybe wrote in someone? Usually. people who decide they are so disgusted that they don’t want to vote for President, do not turn out to vote for the other races. 75,000 write-in votes? For Sanders? I doubt it, because that many write-in votes would show up in the count, since it would have beaten Stein’s total, and thus be about 1.5% of the vote. So they just decided, of their own volition, to not vote for anyone for President?

Another thing. both strange and depressing, is that every time I look at some Twitter feed where a reasonable Democrat or journalist criticizes the Sanders supporters, there are a whole bunch of people angrily responding that Hillary fixed the primaries, that she is corrupt, unlikeable, etc. Are these Russian trolls still earning their immoral salaries, or are there that many insane Sanders people who not only cost Hillary the election, but keep reveling in it at a point where it should be obvious even to idiots, that Trump is going to destroy every value which they liked to pretend was important to them? Whatever actually went on in this state’s election, and what is going on now, is more than disturbing. Of course, Michigan and Wisconsin were big Sanders states, so maybe there are indeed that many truly deranged Sanders people there who are proud of helpng fascism win.

  69. And, btw, Kasich was a managing partner at Lehman’s when they tanked, but, hey, let’s drain the swamp.

  70. so maybe there are indeed that many truly deranged Sanders people there who are proud of helpng fascism win.

I can find many such dip$#!+s on a blog I used to post on.

They put faith in the old “heightening the contradictions” strategy.

    “Nach Drumpf, uns!”

Hey, dip$#!+s, how well did that strategy work for its original users?

Has it ever worked? Anywhere? Anytime? Bueller?

  71. The Democrats last hope is for Obama to take control of the Democratic Party and push Sanders out once and for all.

Forget it; that would require a confrontation, and Mr. No-Drama doesn’t do confrontations. :/

  72. “The Dangerous Myth That Hillary Clinton Ignored the Working Class”

To many white Trump voters, the problem wasn’t her economic stance, but the larger vision—a multi-ethnic social democracy—that it was a part of.

  73. Ivory– Agree!

  74. That was about the Voting Rights Act being gutted, but also about Mr. No-Drama.

  75. Sophie, I look at the picture that you posted above and I see workmen building a gibbet for American democracy.

  76. Brassy
And that is what this is–a big, old FU to Hillary and women everywhere.

Agreed. This is what it was in 2008, while she was SOS and ever since the penis clan decided that THIS woman could never change men’s rights of power in our country.

Women need to stand up on their own two feet and quit being babies about what is happening to their damn gender.

I am so damn sick of Bernie and Trump women I could scream at all of them.

  78. I can’t partake in the Bernie rants. Once I start, I might go into a stroke. Between the Media, BernieGoat and El Douche…….I just can’t take it much longer.

I am so damn angry at what happened to Hillary I can’t even enjoy the holiday season. I am just on autopilot right now…trying to keep it together.

  79. More planned screw you’s to the Native American’s…
The sharks are sharpening their teeth…

Trump advisors aim to privatize oil-rich Indian reservations

Native American reservations cover just 2 percent of the United States, but they may contain about a fifth of the nation’s oil and gas, along with vast coal reserves.

Now, a group of advisors to President-elect Donald Trump on Native American issues wants to free those resources from what they call a suffocating federal bureaucracy that holds title to 56 million acres of tribal lands, two chairmen of the coalition told Reuters in exclusive interviews.

The group proposes to put those lands into private ownership – a politically explosive idea that could upend more than century of policy designed to preserve Indian tribes on U.S.-owned reservations, which are governed by tribal leaders as sovereign nations.

The tribes have rights to use the land, but they do not own it. They can drill it and reap the profits, but only under regulations that are far more burdensome than those applied to private property.

“We should take tribal land away from public treatment,” said Markwayne Mullin, a Republican U.S. Representative from Oklahoma and a Cherokee tribe member who is co-chairing Trump’s Native American Affairs Coalition. “As long as we can do it without unintended consequences, I think we will have broad support around Indian country.”

Trump’s transition team did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The plan dovetails with Trump’s larger aim of slashing regulation to boost energy production. It could deeply divide Native American leaders, who hold a range of opinions on the proper balance between development and conservation.

The proposed path to deregulated drilling – privatizing reservations – could prove even more divisive. Many Native Americans view such efforts as a violation of tribal self-determination and culture.

“Our spiritual leaders are opposed to the privatization of our lands, which means the commoditization of the nature, water, air we hold sacred,” said Tom Goldtooth, a member of both the Navajo and the Dakota tribes who runs the Indigenous Environmental Network. “Privatization has been the goal since colonization – to strip Native Nations of their sovereignty.”

Reservations governed by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs are intended in part to keep Native American lands off the private real estate market, preventing sales to non-Indians. An official at the Bureau of Indian Affairs did not respond to a request for comment.

The legal underpinnings for reservations date to treaties made between 1778 and 1871 to end wars between indigenous Indians and European settlers. Tribal governments decide how land and resources are allotted among tribe members.

  80. Not sure why we think so, but we are NOT a Democracy. We are a Democratic REPUBLIC. We function by rule of law not rule of “The People”. In other words, we don’t subscribe to Mob Rule. Ironically, that is why the Electoral College exists…to keep a crazed despot from becoming President. Unfortunately, it backfired this time, as you witnessed toward the end of the campaigns when they focused on the swing states only. That and God Knows what kind of trickery, with or without the help of Putin, gave it an extra push along with the push throughout the campaigns. Toss in an FBI director who did what heretofore was not only Not Protocol, but totally Unthinkable. And there you have it. And yup, the Electoral College, there to prevent this very thing, Prevails in spite of the thing it was meant to prevent.

Truth will eventually come out. You know it. I know it. Trump knows it too, but the fact remains, he doesn’t care. Because he will be the President and will well be able to pin any potential rap onto someone else.

And so, we carry on. We are the USA. We Endure. It’s what we do. This is a manchild who is accustomed to slipping under the Law radar. The more he does it, the more he does more of it. It’s who he is. And no, in spite of what Richard Nixon said, and now Donald Trump says, it’s not Okay just because you are President. Nobody will Undo Donald J Trump as effectively as Donald J Trump will do it himself.

Take some deep breaths. Live your lives, don’t let another four or eight years go by preoccupied over it. It’s not healthy. Timing. It’s everything. I have never seen a difficult situation that Timing didn’t take care of.

Forget Sanders. He’s spent his entire adult life bitching, moaning and carping, but never actually doing anything. He’s a waste and one thing everyone hates is a constant complainer who doesn’t lift a finger.

  81. Lillian Gish as Rachel Cooper in “The Night Of The Hunter” said it all:
    “We endure and we abide.”
    That’s good advice, Uppity.

  82. I think we will have broad support around Indian country.

Note the “around” but not “in” Indian country.

  83. Uppity, if anything this is a lesson how easily corruptible EC system is. The Republicans did it in one or two states before but this is wholesale multiple swing states corruption because she was ahead (and would have won) and the buffoon was to lose in multiple states.

  84. VotingHillary, on December 5, 2016 at 6:49 PM

Thanks for the links Voting. Does this mean that only 4% of PA’s votes will be recounted?

Because they needed 3 voters from each district to come forward to get the recount?

  85. If you’re remaining in the party, get active, bring friends.

From a Hillary Volunteer and Dem Party Volunteer:

After our MO State Party meeting yesterday I would like to make a suggestion, not sure it’s possible for anyone but wish I had thought of it sooner. Our Women’s Caucus is a great group. We have had some Bernie Dems in the group and we all worked together great. A long Democrat formed the group several years ago and stepped down as chair this year, which meant we held elections. Needless to say the meeting was packed. The Bernie supporters turned out in full force. Most of them paid their Party dues online the night before or that day (a requirement for voting). Needless to say, they swept the elections. Every single one of the women elected has never been to a meeting. One of our DNC Reps has been touting a complete Bernie slate as a success. Clearly party unity is not high on the agenda.
My suggestion, which I thought of too late for us, is this: Have a clause in your Bylaws that to be an officer you must have been involved with the respective Caucus for at least one year, term, whatever you deem appropriate. I don’t know if you have a way to vote on this prior to the meeting, or if it’s too late, but we should’ve seriously planned ahead. They also organized a Progressive Caucus which met yesterday. This entire concept, planning, meeting, etc. happened in closed Bernie groups.
If not, do all you can to turn out the Hillary supporters. Our state party is woefully pitiful about letting democrats know about these meetings. As in, they simply don’t tell anyone! If yours is the same, post the dates in your social media groups. Shore up votes in advance. Get confirmation people will attend, remind them, carpool! I had three people confirm they were going & they didn’t show. For some reason we can get people energized around the national elections, but the state party, the one that can truly impact our lives the most, they are disengaged. Think State Conventions 2.0! We need to be organized and fight to be engaged so we don’t lose our party!

  86. This goes well for the Fuck Bernie post. The tweeter is a Bernie or Bust fucker wishing that Comet Pizzeria be ruined because they are Democrats.

You are absolutely right, we are Democratic Republic. Yet, the EC is not a democratic process; it lends itself for more gerrymandering, even within own party.
Case in point the 2008 democratic primaries, when Hillary won the popular vote against the BO and with the delegates manipulation they awarded the presidential candidacy to Mr. No-Drama supreme.

  91. sophie, agree and he has a couple of hundred followers and not a major player. There may be as you say, Trump supporters who may be posing as Berniebots just to divide us more.

  92. Another insightful tweet on the Naderites of 2016:

In 2006, I unwittingly emailed a Naderite who’d moved to Canada after the 2004 election about this exact thing and got back a shovelful of excuses and outrage. Nothing changes, it seems.

  93. media does not want to accept their part in this but we should keep holding them responsible.

  94. No to Manipulate crats. EC got to go…

Name the 38 states that will ratify this. I submit that there aren’t 38 states that will.

That’s after somebody finds a boatload of people who are going to quit their jobs and dedicate full time to finding people in all the states who will circulate the petitions and get the signatures by the deadline to get it on the ballot.

Changing the constitution is made as difficult as possible for a reason. Otherwise, Marxists like Bernie Sanders would have us living like Nicaraguans by now.

  95. Upps, pleazee don´t mention that Cooobanoh name in my presence…

  97. Trixta, I could have written that! so so infuriating.

  98. Yeah, Pm. Me too.

  99. Sophie — Yrch! This is exactly what the Berniebots did at the caucuses to F things up.

  100. Yes, excellent article by Brock. Of course we know all of that, and are just as angry. His list can actually be summarized in a couple of themes.. One is that while Republicans are true believers who will do anything to get their various agendas accomplished, too many Democrats (or more accurately, the Left, since not all of them are Democrats) have this absolutely destructive tendency to care more about some kind of political puritanism than in actually gaining power and doing things. I suppose one could write a book about where this comes from. As we know, many Democrats never are satisifed with the candidate. As Hillary lightly said in an interview, Republicans fall in line, Democrats want to fall in love. So while Republicans wil ultimatelyl vote for any Republican; far too many Democrats, Lefist Indies, carp and complain about the candidate; and seem to think, like faux wine connoisseurs, that turning up their noses at the mainstream candidate, and voting for some obscure unelectable third party candidate, or sitting out entirely, is a mark of their acute discernment and intellectual superiority.

The other major theme is that Democrats keep acting as if the Republican officeholders are mostly decent people, when they are not. Someone should make up a comprehensive list of various things that the Republicans would have done had they been in the Democrats’ position. Win the popular vote, and lose the electoral vote, and they literally would be threatening armed insurrection. Have a Democratic Senate refuse to even hold hearings on the Republican President’s Supreme Court nominee, and they would cry treason, turn every news channel into a 24-hour a day condemnation of the evil the Democrats are doing by not holding the hearing. There are endless examples to think of. And we know that they would indeed have done this. So the ultimate question is, how does this change? Because if it doesn’t; if every single matter has two sets of rules, wherein the Republicans get to condemn, threaten, shut down the government; while the Democrats are always playing the role of the gracious loser, it will never get better. One side plays hardline gut-punching streetball, and the other side clucks and says, good try, lads, we’ll try to do better next time. I know that being as corrupt, hypocritical and deceiful as Republicans, is not a good thing. But can we at least start screaming about it, going all over the country, on media and other places, telling the people what is going on, while it is happening?? Republicans have gotten away with this for many decades; and it has culminated in the most viciously deceitful, cheating, corrupt, racist, sexist, anti-semitic, despicable series of actions I have ever seen. But they will never stop, if the best we can do is is only to have decent people like Brock be upset after the damage is done.

  101. And a follow-up and dispositive question: If you are the Democratic Party, and there is an opening on the Supreme Court, particularly for the swing seat; and the Republicans who control the Senate Judiciary Commitee simply refuse to bring your nominee to even a hearing, for 300 DAYS, what do you do? Here are some choices:

    1. The Democratic President, after waiting 250 days or so, appoints the Justice in a recess session, saying that “advise and consent,” is an affirmative duty under the Constitution. The Republicans file suit, and you hope that the judicial system indeed finds that one party indeed cannot make a mockery of advise and consent by doing nothing for a year; and thus your nominee does take the bench.

    2. The Democratic President uses the bully pulpit to excoriate the Republicans on a daily basis for this, so that everybody in the country is aware of it. The Democratic Senators go on every talk show available and call the Republicans fascists who do not believe in the Constitution.

    3. The Democratic President starts redlining every single appropriations bill which might benefit a state which any Republican Judiiciary member represents.

    4. The Democratic President does nothing, other than grouse a bit. No repercussions. no tit for tat, no appointment. At the end of this, Democratic Senators complain that Republicans stole the seat from them. Republicans are triumphantly gleeful that they have maintained control of the Supreme Court for another 40 years.

  104. Thanks, Bellecat.

  105. Sander’s and his moronic supporters did a tremendous amount of harm to Hillary and allowed an opening for Trump to run on this fake populist theme. Sander’s and guys like Ellison have driven the democratic party into the ground. I had left the party after Hillary was cheated in 08 and other than being permanently heartbroken she will not be my president, I hope the dems lose everything Trump will govern by twitter and I think the biggest issue for all of us will be the SCOTUS as that will have lasting impact. Truthfully, Trump ois so out of his depth, I would not be surprised if he secretly talks to Bill and or Hillary when something as he would say “big” happens.

  106. An Orlando lawyer has officially filed a lawsuit for a statewide recount in the presidential race. Donald Trump was named the winner in Florida but by a razor-thin margin. The attorney filed the 549-page complaint Friday in Leon County. Courts will decide whether recount will take place.

  107. Sorry, William, but it appears that choice #1 is not an option for a permanent appointment to SCOTUS. An appointment without senate approval can only serve until the end of the next session. Then he/she gets the boot.

President Obama may ponder the possibility of putting on the Court a new Justice of his choosing, to serve temporarily. The problem, though, is that less than two years ago, the Supreme Court severely narrowed the flexibility of such temporary appointment power, and strengthened the Senate’s capacity to frustrate such a presidential maneuver.

It is true that one of the Justices regarded as a giant on the Court’s history, William J. Brennan, Jr., actually began his lengthy career with just such a short-term appointment. The chances of that happening again today seem to have diminished markedly.

The presidential authority at issue in this possible scenario exists, according to Article II, when the Senate has gone into recess and the vacancy a president seeks to fill remains. Such an appointment requires no action at all by the Senate, but the appointee can only serve until the end of the following Senate session. The president (if still in office) can then try again during a new Senate session, by making a new nomination, and that must be reviewed by the Senate.

Also, more on when a recess actually is a recess here:

  108. Uppity!!! Lakerwade told me today that he heard that the Dem/Indy Broz want Joe Biden & Bernie Sanders to run together in 2020! Can you imagine? Idiotic old fossils. No thanks.

William, good comment @ 11:59. I so wish Obama would grow a pair and just appoint him. Let the thugs fight it out. What would it hurt?

  109. Yeah just what we need, 80 year old President and VP. Great idea.

  110. Hey Socal! Remember when I wrote this in 2010? Prescient I tell you. Congress is officially a retirement home.

  111. Have I mentioned that I’m still not past the anger stage of grief? I don’t plan to move past it anytime soon.

The fifth and final stage of grief is acceptance.

Well I have been at the anger stage since Nov 8th. Swept past the sock and denial on the drive home from the election, and lept in a single bound right into the anger stage and have been there ever since.

I don’t plan to reach the acceptance stage in the next four years. Just like I didn’t reach it for the past eight year.

Am I politically an angry women, you betcha I am! I will never forgive or forget. I will never accept El Douche, never ever.

  112. Upps, thats another oldie but goodie. We need reasonable term limits.

Shadow, I’m numb on the outside and simmering underneath. Am working a lot to try to take my mind off it, but then I still usually come here everyday to see whats going on. Its hard to just disengage.

  113. SoCal,

I’m in the same boat. I have tried to disengage but I simply can’t. Too much is happening and everyday this man further proves why he’s so unfit and unstable to be president. I think people are underestimating it. I just watched a word war 2 movie and the similarilities between what they said when Hitler took over is the same think they are saying about Trump “you will be fine/ok” “everything will be fine” “it’s not that bad” “he is going to be a change”

  114. Sorry for the typos. Peter Daou said Hillary is on track to winning more votes than anyone in US history. And it counts for nothing!? The dems should be out there screaming and demanding the EC vote for Hillary.

  115. No, instead there are Dems screaming that the EC vote for John Kasich. In 2008, the party gave Hillary’s votes and delegates to a man that wasn’t on the ballot. In 2016, they want to give her electoral votes to a man not on the ballot. I sense a pattern here.

Sanders and Biden ticket? That would be very funny–the scourge of the bankers and the bankers’ best friend. You always know where the bros are coming from when they start telling you how great Biden is compared to Hillary. All those years in the Senate carrying water for the banks and credit card companies doesn’t bother them one bit when it comes to old Joe. But Hillary is a Wall St. puppet even though they can’t name a single thing she ever did for them. It’s the misogyny, stupid.

  116. Ivanka is de facto president? Read somewhere that in a post-election call from Pelosi, when she started talking about women and children issues, the buffoon handed the phone over to Ivanka. Now Gore is praising her for her climate change commitment? It is clear he does not trust his sons and weird that he needs her by his side for all these meetings.

  117. Yes, everybody needs to work to keep the Bernie Bros from taking over the party with all their misogyny.

  118. Do you all realize these are the same Bernie Bros who stole the nomination from Hillary to give to the less qualified Obama in 2008 (caucuses anyone?) and tried to do the same now? These are the same sexist pigs and should be rooted out the party.

  119. A few new photos of Hillary in casual mode.

  120. This might be a BFD…

US elections: broken machines could throw Michigan recount into chaos

Over half of Detroit and nearly one-third of Wayne County could be affected, and the recount won’t happen if discrepancies can’t be solved by recounting by hand
Broken polling machines may have put vote counts in question in more than half of Detroit’s precincts and nearly one-third of surrounding Wayne County, possibly throwing the Michigan recount into chaos.

If the discrepancies can’t be solved by recounting every paper ballot in question by hand, a recount in those precincts simply won’t happen.

Donald Trump’s slim margin over Hillary Clinton means any chance of the state flipping on a recount likely hinges on Wayne County, where the Democrat won by a landslide. Clinton lost by 10,704 votes in Michigan; Wayne’s population of 1,759,335 makes it the likeliest candidate to contain errors bigger than that margin.

Eighty-seven of Wayne County’s decade-old voting machines broke on election day, according to Detroit’s elections director, Daniel Baxter. He told the Detroit News, which first reported the story, that ballot scanners often jammed when polling place workers were trying to operate them. Every time a jammed ballot was removed and reinserted, he suspects the machine may have re-counted it.

Preliminary investigation by election officials in Wayne County found that 610 of the area’s 1,680 precincts could not reconcile the number of votes cast according to the machines with the number of ballots issued according to the electoral rolls. Detroit contains 662 of Wayne’s precincts; in 392 of those, the number of votes didn’t match up.

Baxter told the News he was confident a recount would match the ballots issued to the paper records, which are sealed and stored under guard. “I don’t think it’s going to be 100%,” he said, “but it never is with a recount.”

If hand-tallied ballots can’t resolve all the mismatches, the votes will stand in the counties where the errors remain.

State law rejects a recount in places where the two figures don’t match up: a precinct is ineligible to be recounted if the “number of ballots to be recounted and the number of ballots issued on election day as shown on the poll list or the computer printout do not match and the difference is not explained to the satisfaction of the board of canvassers,” the law says.

Jill Stein has raised millions of dollars for recounts, but it remains unclear whether the costly process will make a difference after Donald Trump’s victory

The recount was triggered by Green party candidate Jill Stein in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. On Monday, Stein asked a federal court to intervene in Pennsylvania after state courts demanded a million-dollar bond before it would proceed.

Computer scientists have been sounding the alarm about shoddily made, insecure and incompatible voting machines for several years. The only way to find out whether technical problems or even malicious hacking have contributed large errors to the electoral tally is to audit the vote, wrote the University of Michigan’s J Alex Halderman in an affidavit supporting Stein’s call for a recount. Now that a recount is under way, Michigan officials are indeed finding major technical problems.

Jeremy J Epstein, a researcher with SRI, successfully campaigned in 2015 to have Virginia’s WinVote machines decertified when he discovered that the factory-set network passwords for WinVote voting machines were often “abcde” and “admin”.

  121. Trump supports Dakota pipeline – but claims it’s not due to his investment in it

Transition team says that the president-elect’s endorsement of the controversial Dakota Access pipeline ‘has nothing to do with his personal investments’

  122. Actually, I don’t think that most of the Sanders supporters care about the country, or even their supposed issues. They just love the idea of being important, and winning the virtual reality game they are playing. I never heard a coherent idea of how to improve things come out of Sanders’ mouth. Anyone who read his interview with the NYDN editorial board would see that he just talks, has no idea how to actually accomplish anything. He is an ideological demagogue, pure and simple; the kind of person I used to hear yelling into a microphone during lunch on Bruin Walk at UCLA. Sounds halfway good, particularly if you are a teenager who doesn’t really understand how government works.

I think that for the vast majority of his supporters, Sanders is a wish fulfilllment projecction, like a magic invisible friend. He makes them feel important because they think he is talking just to them. If we had millions of years to try everything out, it would be interesting to see how ridiculous he would look and be as President. King Lear inveighing as the storm rages.. But we don’t; and Sanders is a colossal waste of time, and he is also the person who could lead the Democratic Party into permanent irrelevance, as the evil Republicans take over everything. This is so obvious, that one wonders if the right wing is paying him to do all of this. Probably not, he is just an arrogant and foolish man who finally found a generation of suckers to listen to his spiel.

  123. William @ 1:04pm: well said! I wish we never had to hear about him again.

  124. William I think it might be even more simple. Sanders people are upset that nobody is going to pay for their dumbed-down college education that half of them probably shouldn’t have bothered getting. Their ‘Us, Not Me” meme was bullshit from the get-go. It was Me Me Me, Not Us. They’ve been fed a romantic view of Socialism and Marxism, and many of the bros have already adopted the Women and Minorities Are Shit attitude that comes with it. The young women are part of the “new” Feminism. You know, where they redefined Feminism so as not to hurt the boys’ fee fees. And of course, the rest of the loss of their lack of stewardship of the rights that were handed to them is already history. Paying strict attention to how your rights are being whittled away by degrees just gets in the way of that weekly mani and pedi and all those shopping hauls.

They all need to spend a summer in Nicaragua. Where Bernie lovingly attended the Anniversary Of The Revolution. Or maybe they need summer camp in Venezuela, where they not get to stand in line for silly things like meds, and electricity is a luxury not a necessity. That would cure them, but they will be cured anyways, when Donald’s big stupid mouth gets us into a war and they all find that job he promised. In a trench crying for their mothers. Where cell phones aren’t worth shit and there’s no time to threaten people on Twitter, what with the need to keep their asses alive.

You’ll see how quick they come back and kiss our soil.

By the way, it isn’t just Bernie who blew smoke up their asses about Socialism. It started in school, where so many teachers are students of and loving readers of Bill Ayers’ books.

  125. Uppity, yes; it is worthwhile to note that while JFK certainlly had his personal flaws, he did encourage a generation of young people to contribute to society; and some traveled to impoverished and dangerous third world countries to help, Of course there are exceptions, but I don’t see the millennials doing anything except yelling, “Bernie.” at rallies. If I thought they were actively engaged in trying to make things better, I would feel more optimistic; but I don’t think they are. And I wonder if any of the Bernie voters ever sent HIllary a dime, or volunteered any of their time for her. I think most of them thought they were participating in a Marvel Comics movie, fighting against various dark forces, which to some of them included Hillary. Those silly movies always end, though, and there are always sequels. Not so much with real life, however.

  126. The one Berniebro I know is a dreck who posted nasty articles about how he’d like to spit on Hillary and that she’s no better than Trump, blah blah blah. Now he’s writing about how we need to “organize,” and fight for the “revolution.” I unfollowed him long ago. All show.

While I believe in expanded social services more than ever since technology is rapidly improving, anyone with sense would have voted for the woman who would work to reasonably improve things for everyone rather than a morally and mentally bankrupt man.

Wall Street is full of terrible hacks and people and I’m not opposed to additional taxes and regulation, but it’s pretty clear that Wall Street has bought both parties. Obama appointed Wall Street People, and so did Bush. The field of economics is strangely biased, and if you watch the documentary “Inside Job,” you see how much excess there is there.

Free college works in Europe because most people don’t attend college and taxes are higher. Giving everyone a college degree would not restore jobs or make American workers more competitive. Hillary’s plan was very reasonable and smarter than Bernie’s. Even in Canada, where we have more college grads because the tuition is significantly less for public universities, unemployment persists. The country needs to be competitive, and that requires diversification and entrepreneurship, not sticking your fingers in your ear and pretending that oil is going to be a thing forever, or that coal is going to come back etc. etc.

  127. I’m adopting the …”It’s the misogyny, stupid.” mantra. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE is talking about this as a factor in election results. ( So,OK, here @ Uppity’s,but few other places.)
May have to add a disclaimer, the person I’m talking to doesn’t take it too personally. Then again, maybe I don’t care anymore if they do take it personally.

Am struggling w/how to deal w/my family during these holidays. Most of them are Trump supporters..there’s no reasoning or discussing things rationally with them and they are over the moon w./the Repub monopoly of government. Can’t explain to them why,how I feel so personally threatened by these election results..more to the point they’re not well enough informed ( or only FOX news informed) to understand how Trump threatens their livelihoods and even our democracy. Right now I’m going w/avoidance..I don’t know what else to do.Makes me feel sad, angry and kind of hoping this is just a temporary lull in energies and clarity.

  128. Kasich asks presidential electors not to vote for him

    By Kyle Cheney

    12/06/16 02:47 PM EST

  129. Msdsal

Jipes, I don’t envy you with spending the holidays with family members that are all in for El Douche.

    I couldn’t handle it.

  130. I’m glad Kasich did that. Hopefully, the idiot “Hamilton” electors will realize that its Hillary or Trump, and if they vote for some nonexistent reasonable rethug they will be throwing their vote away as much as the dunderheads that voted for Jill Nader or her cousin Gary Nader.

  131. That’s scary about Dump and Boeing. God knows how much damage he will cause to us all.

  132. Neuro17, wonder who was buying it up after it tanked? Somebody made some fast money. That’s just the way it works… the rich get richer.

  133. Belle @ 4:05 PM. What the hell? The DEMOCRATIC electors are coalescing around Kasich as the most broadly acceptable choice???? Why aren’t they fighting for Hillary who has millions more votes than the Dumpster or any other candidate NOT on the ballot. What is wrong with those people?

  134. Cats, because she doesn’t have 2 balls with a tiny bat in the middle.

  135. Lots of them are Bernie dudes and dudettes, cats. Their reasoning that they have to find a “consensus” Republican because Republican electors will never vote for Hillary is bassackward.Of course, they should be making the case for the candidate on the ballot who received the most votes. That would be HRC by more than 2.7 million. But that would require logic and rational decision making of which they are incapable.

  136. And Kasich has been trying to ingratiate himself with Trump ever since the election. Thus–Don’t vote for me. He’s no different than the rest.

  137. i think Uppity is right. Those Bernie voters are nothing but a bunch of spoiled brats who don’t have a clue as to what is coming their way and they will continue to blame Hillary for their own foolishness. Bernie couldn’t even get them to come out and vote for him only come to rallies. I guess filling out a form was too much trouble. It was reported that 70% of the people that caucused for Bernie in Nebraska nobody ever heard from again despite the party trying to contact them.

  138. So upon reflection I’ve decided to say the following to my father, with adjustments in language for other family members..
” Donald Trump is not the kind of person you raised me to respect. He’s a bully, a narcissist ,a bigot and a sexual predator. He lies repeatedly and frequently ; he has broken all kinds of laws both state and federal and gone on to brag about it. Don’t expect me to support his administration. He may be the oligarch I have to live under but he’s not my president.”

I’m hoping this will divert the conversation to a discussion of morality and remind my father (maybe the rest of the family, too) of what our moral center used to be..and that we are better than this.
    Or not…:0

  139. “Madonna: Women Betrayed Us by Voting Donald Trump, Not Hillary Clinton”

    Tufayel Ahmed

“Madonna has said she feels betrayed by women who voted Donald Trump president of the United States.

The singer, who was outspoken in her objection to Trump in the lead-up to November’s election, told Billboard that the outcome of the race “felt like someone died.”

She criticized the “insanely high” volume of women that voted for the businessman, who faced staunch criticism for his objectification of women in the weeks before election day, instead of supporting female candidate Hillary Clinton.”

  140. Do you all realize these are the same Bernie Bros…

    Yes, PM317, I do.

  141. “Bernie, what happened to you?”
    Natalia Munoz

“Sen. Bernie Sanders, you divided liberals and made a cottage industry of it: social media bots and trolls, fake news, now a book about how you and your angry followers can ignite a revolution, part 2.

Clouded by mean ambition, you traded in your admirable principles by denigrating Hillary Clinton, a longtime public servant with a public record, books and Senate votes that show a stateswoman at work.

Most of your “revolutionaries” settled lazily on being spoon-fed lies and distortions that national media pop stars served up irresponsibly.

You’re still trying to sell Marxism to a country that barely accepts public schools.

You proclaimed that the Democratic Party primaries were rigged, Hillary was unworthy, and her supporters were confused by “identity politics.” Sen. Sanders, four million more voted for her over you because she is smarter than you, more compassionate and really nice.”

  142. It is clear he does not trust his sons and weird that he needs her by his side for all these meetings.

Uday and Qusay are both dolts. Ivanka has her mother’s brains.

  143. Without the media/press doing its job, it is very difficult to sustain fairness and justice on as large a scale as an election in a democracy like this one. They were not fair and not just and they are even worse now. Nothing about the buffoon is normal and they treated him and still treat him that way. We are fucked. This is how countries fall. {India has better press/media than here}

There’s at least one journalist who agrees with you (and me, as well, since I think this was the main factor) – Lynn Sherr.

  145. it is so strange that Melania T is being hidden the way she is. She is not even going to be the FL, is she? She should divorce the buffoon.

  146. Uppity, I thoroughly enjoyed your Congress retirement home essay. I needed a good laugh.

  147. LOL WLM, I forgot about that post and had a good chuckle too. Prescient! that was 2010!

  148. Hate to say it PM, but it looks like Melanoma’s job to to keep Barron under wraps. Any teacher worth their salt will tell you that boy has as a minimum, Flat Affect Disorder or/and Autistism. You would have thought he would have looked human and come clean about his son. But nope, he would rather pretend. Because Barron is not “Perfect” like Mr. Superior Genes is, therefore he is something to be ashamed off. And that is just disgusting. There is no shame in Autism. The real shame is Donald Trump. There are a number of very nice Autistic people on twitter and I felt confirmed when two of them tweeted about Barron. So nice job, asshole, keeping that boy out of sight. Shame on horrible you.

Old men having babies and thinking they are studs have weakened genes. Even “perfect” Aryans like Heir Donald thinks he is.

  149. I didn’t even really think about people buying the stocks. Darn, a bunch of portfolios, retirements, et al. were probably badly hurt then.

The thing about previous Republicans is that they had the veneer of decency, and expertise. Orangutang has none of this, and his Trumpkins snap it up. I’m honestly scared for the next four years. He cannot sit for a second and is going to turn the US into a banana republic.

  150. I was watching a show and there was a scene of a huge building with an enormous glass ceiling. It reminded me of the night of the election when our Hillary was due to give her historic speech.

It breaks my heart, can’t imagine how it hurts her.

    ❤ Hillary

  151. It’s getting worse: Ohio’s state house has just passed a bill outlawing abortion at 6 wks. Next stop: Gov Kasich for signature.

The election of Donald Trump emboldened majority Republicans in the Ohio General Assembly to pass the strictest abortion law in the nation Tuesday. In a surprise move in the final days of the lame-duck session, the Senate and House adopted the Heartbeat Bill — long sought by some abortion opponents — to outlaw abortions once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, generally about six weeks into pregnancy.

….Ohio Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Kathy DiCristofaro said “this bill — which was tacked on as a last-minute amendment to a child abuse prevention bill — makes no exceptions for rape or incest victims. It is cruel and plainly unconstitutional — but it seems like Ohio Republicans don’t care about the Constitution. Trump’s vision for America is already alive and well in the Buckeye State.”

Just to be clear, 6 wks is approx 1-2 wks after a missed menstrual period, maybe less depending on the individual.

  152. Early Nerd, thanks for the link and a bit more hope. Also thanks for the support from Shadowfax.Looks like we’ve all survived one more day.

Still have to believe in Karma;may we all be a witness.

  153. Hillary Clinton now has 2.7 million more votes than Donald Trump. She may end up with 3 million more votes.

She has only 400,000i less votes than Barack Obama received in 2012. Further, in that election, there were only about 2.6 million votes for third part candidates, while in this election, it is around 7.3 million.

This tells us that Hillary should be President, because no one who wins a national election by about 3 million votes, should not be President. She will possibly end up with the largest popular vote of all time. People are people, no matter what state they happen to reside in.

What all this shows us is that this is worse than an injustice; it is a nightmare, a travesty, a mockery of democracy; an election system turned into a bizarre pinball game.

It also shows us that those who voted third party are worse than idiots.

Finally, you cannot govern a country in which you lost the election by 3 million votes. You and your party can try to game it, and ram things through, and play every corrupt angle, but you can’t govern–unless you are willing to kill people the way Hitler and Stalin did. You have no moral authority, and all but your minority of supporters and your media sycophants, know it. No one is going to fall in line. There is going to be massive civil resistance, hopefully non-violent.

The electoral college, if it has any positive value at all, must pick the person who has the popular authority to govern; and that is not even mentioning the personal and intellectual flaws and the conflicts of interest of the other candidate. If they don’t, the entire system is a worthless sham; and no one is going to respect or accede to any of it, now, or in the future. It is, to coin a phrase, a Republican bridge too far.

  154. Losing the popular vote by 3.0 million votes, Trump will be the first and only Commander-in-Chief to be a deliberate p***y grabber and an accidental President.

  155. To add to the list of Sanders’ sellouts, Amy Goodwin of Democracy Now:

This is from just before the disaster. Still, she and all her confrères at NPR should be given their full amount of credit.

  156. Connecting the dots, there was a video circulating of a guy from a small company denouncing the buffoon on Fox (don’t remember if it was before or after election) and in the replies, many were saying they should ‘short’ his company. I don’t understand that particular usage — ‘short’ a company (educate me!) but is that what the buffoon did with Boeing yesterday? He and his minions are evil (look at what went on with the pizzagate).

  157. If the press/media worked in this country the way they should have, there would big headlines about Hillary’s huge popular vote lead and raising questions about election integrity; there would be headlines about what the Rs did; there would be questions about EC and whether it can work in environment where one party and a candidate could completely corrupt the system… on and on…

Also I wish I had noted that tweet I saw on election night in Goldie Taylor’s twitter TL someone tweeting breaking news and discrepancy about votes counted and votes cast. Her twitter account is a mess and I just checked and it won’t load beyond a certain point.

  158. William, the Trumpsters get very defensive about losing the popular vote, even resorting to the old argument about how many counties he won. As if trees and empty acreage could vote. The fact that Hillary won where PEOPLE live doesn’t interest them and they dismiss the popular vote as if it’s a shameful concept to go by that. They even say, She lost Middle America. In fact, she won urban America everywhere. If not for winner take all in the EC (itself a violation of the 14th amendment’s equal protection clause), she would be president.

    Farewell, America
No matter how the rest of the world looked at us on Nov. 7, they will now look at us differently.

    By Neal Gabler | November 10, 2016

  161. I am supposed to go to a little Christmas party at work, later on…and I am in a really foul mood about this election/recount/ and Hillary being buried alive.

I try really hard to shake it off but I am not doing that well at it.

I would love for Hillary’s people to do everything they should do to fight for recounts……..freakin’ 2,775,035 million votes over Rump should make it a BFD!

    The vote count:

    Hillary – 65,525,364

    El Douche – 62,850,329

  162. BTW, they are still counting votes……..

  163. How many freakin’ votes over El Douche would it take for the Clinton people to fight for her???

    3 million more? 4 million, 5 million, 10 million???

Being a good loser isn’t giving into the person that lost, that is just unjust to voters, to Hillary, to our entire election.

It is going to be war anyway, when Rump’s pawns start ripping apart our safety net for everyone at risk.

  164. Shadow:
    don’t feel lonely…
I’m not going to visit my relatives abroad in Spain for the winter…
I don’t feel like traveling the distance not knowing what going to happen here…
and the need to fight this travesty…

  165. ((Bellecat)) I certainly understand.

  166. Looks like it may be Romney for SOS. A complete sell out and fraud, but better than Guiliani

  167. Belle: Thanks for the Gabler link. The only comfort I have right now is that I am not the only one who feels this heartbreak. It is so hard to be with people who didn’t vote for Hillary this year, which is about 95% of my friends.

Sorry you have to miss out on your winter in Spain. I have a friend who visited two years ago and loved the country and the people she met in her wanderings. Her only complaint was the lack of vegetables, what’s up with that?

  168. I’m not sure if anyone else feels this way but seeing how the recount is going in MI & WI & PA and there are roadbloacks at every turn we take, I feel like we are all being abused. We’ve all been lied to and have been just abused. It’s not enough to say we will fight back in 4 years, it’s not enough to raise millions of dollars for a recount, nothing seems to work. I feel we are all collared & caged. And no one is held accountable but the American people and leaders who dare to fight (Hillary) it’s hard to find solid ground these days…

  169. Shadowfax I’m with you. I get it. Many people are feeling the same it’s just some aren’t showing it. Hell some don’t even know it yet!

  170. WTF??

Half of Detroit votes may be ineligible for recount
One-third of precincts in Wayne County could be disqualified from an unprecedented statewide recount of presidential election results because of problems with ballots.

Michigan’s largest county voted overwhelmingly for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, but officials couldn’t reconcile vote totals for 610 of 1,680 precincts during a countywide canvass of vote results late last month.

Most of those are in heavily Democratic Detroit, where the number of ballots in precinct poll books did not match those of voting machine printout reports in 59 percent of precincts, 392 of 662.

According to state law, precincts whose poll books don’t match with ballots can’t be recounted. If that happens, original election results stand.

Were are the Clinton lawyers on this bs?????????

    What is this…some Communist country????

  171. Shadow @ 4:38 PM: When you read the comments, the prevalent opinion is that the there was definitely voter fraud in Detroit…. in Hillary’s favor. Even now, every article I read has way more negative comments aimed at Hillary and her supporters than at Trump and his. Most of them sound like school yard bullies or rabid HS dropouts.

I am stunned at the many ways one can tamper with or just screw up the vote counts and negate any chance at a recount.

  172. We are a third world country, Shadow. Especially in places like Detroit where, apparently, the voting machines are so old that they malfunctioned. There was a report the other day that when officials tried to test them they jammed, meaning voters had to try multiple times to get them to accept their ballots. Thus, the discrepancy. It’s a scandal that we are so backward in this once great nation that we can’t even have an election without it turning into a major clusterf*ck.

There was no voter fraud of course, just folks trying to vote once, but the comments at Detroit News are no surprise. It’s a real right wing rag and has been for decades. Caters to affluent suburbanites. I was born and raised in Detroit.

  173. Brasstm

I was born there too, but never raised in Detroit…in the burbs.

  174. Need to get something off my chest..please ignore the following if I go on too long and send out to the world if you’d like.

    Dear Electors of the Electoral College;

Every day in this country people put their lives on the line to protect the country;it’s your turn. You are the last line of defense we have from a Trump administration.
Pretend for just a minute that you’re not a Republican( or apparently a Democrat from Washington state)..would you ever want to see in the White House a man who is a bully,a frequent and pathological liar,a man who brags about his sexual exploits and with the attention span of a fruit fly? Someone who’s refused to let the American people see his tax returns so we can monitor any conflicts of interest?
The constitution gives you the right to vote your conscience ;so now you must ask yourself if you’ll vote to make yourself feel better or vote on behalf of the majority of the American a real democracy does.Dropping out, voting for another Republican candidate may feel better to you than voting for Hillary, but if Trump doesn’t get his 270,it just goes to the House where they’ll vote him in anyway. You and Hillary are our last best hope to avoid four long years of chaos.

What will you tell your grandchildren you did when the survival of our democracy was on the line? Don’t be a Republican or a Democrat when you an American.Surely there are 40 of you who will step up.

    Thanks for your service.

OK, I feel a bit better now. This site will help us all get through the next couple of months/years.

  175. Msdsal: is there address where we can actually send our pleas?

  176. On a “happening now” topic, I have watched several interviewers over the last couple weeks asking Turnipp advocates about his packing the Cabinet with Generals. (CNN, MSNBC, NPR) All of the advocates reply with glowing comments about how wonderful the particular general is.

NO interviewer follows with “but I asked you about the fact that the Cabinet will have three generals, not how nice they are as people”. Where are the policy people? Generals and billionaires as a Cabinet???
Again, I see no outcry from Democrats. One claimed they are waiting for the appearance before their committees but I call bs on that.

On the vote counts, it feels like there is no fight left in anyone who actually could make some noise. Are the afraid of what Turnipp may do to them after Jan. 20?

  177. CatsCC.I think all these delegates meet in their various states,so there wouldn’t be just one address. I realized it was an exercise in futility ( had my fill of those, lately). But,on the other hand,it’s important to put things out never know where they’ll end up.Or what idea it might strike in another person.
I am fond of saying that I usually know where I am because I’ve been lost there before. New territory now.

  178. Sophie.. good article. I wonder if this is a good idea — a sort of campaign. Make a copy of it and write our own list/grievance/resistance about this election and mail it to all of our congress gritters, especially if they are Republican.

  179. Mentioning the popular vote fries the brains of both Bernie Bros and pumpkin heads. It’s worth mentioning over and over for that reason alone and the fact that Hillary got the most votes means that her agenda was the most popular one not the GOP or Trump’s agenda. Fight the Banana Republicans until the end. Start working on 2018 now.

  180. Many of you who grew up here already know this. But this election has been a revelation to me. Republicans are morally bankrupt and reprehensible people. They are sexist, racist, xenophobic; they belong in another past century dragging this country regressively into some medieval times especially where women’s rights are concerned. They are anti-intellectual, not smart, and easily led. They are vile and disgusting. They have put this country in grave danger handing it to the fringe elements (the buffoon is one of them) of this society. The fake news, the conspiracies smearing honorable people including the Clintons, the lewd, the vulgar, and the obnoxious behavior in the rallies and elsewhere, and the buffoon himself participating and encouraging it at every turn and now all the sewer rats populating his cabinet and his administration, tearing the constitution into shreds and making a mockery of rule of law. Media/TV were full enablers and co-conspirators in this election outcome. They sold this country and their soul for a few pieces of gold.

I would have said all this even if Hillary had won the EC. But I will say it now and that it is orders of magnitude worse in the way they won. This is a clear and present danger to this society and this country. I would spit on these mfers if ever I see one.

  181. JBjb

PM you don’t have to wonder. In the same state that this pre-forgiven male white Christianist hails from, a jury of his peers has just forgiven the state’s lawfully armed police for their shooting of an unarmed black man. (I am inescapably reminded of Susan Glaspell). This loon is getting that same forgiveness from WaPo, as quoted in this stellar example of Southern invective. When they get it right, Southerners have few equals:

WaPo and NYT won’t feature that picture, though it does say it all: this “sweet” young man posing with an assault rifle. Men armed with weapons solely intended to kill a great number of people are so common here that billboards featuring these weapons line the highway into the Smokies, this country’s most visited National Park.

  195. Disgraceful and scary. Does he have an alert of some kind that goes off when somebody somewhere says something negative about him? This buffoon is a lunatic.

  196. Rather stupid dumb fuckers voted for this lunatic because smart and discerning people didn’t and could see that he was not normal. He is a lunatic tweeting to other loons who are threatening that union leader now. A FL woman was charged with assaulting(?) a Sandy Hook parent after listening to conspiracy theories, Comet pizzeria has a shooting incident after a loon believed in conspiracy about it, on and on. Time for the Rs to own their fucking vote and correct the course.

  197. Fuck the dumb Trump voters for hoisting this menace on an otherwise stable country.

  198. I think people should stop getting surprised, shocked, even disturbed at the buffoon. They should start focusing on turning around his supporters, wean them away, at least the ones that still have some decency and fairness left in them.

  199. So Time gave Hillary a consolation prize. Fuck them!

  200. I’m not bothering with Trump’s supporters. Not the kind of people I want to hang out with. Unless I had a gun and my dog with me.

You know you’re scum when every pedophile and rapist supports you. See Brock Turner’s Twitter account.

  201. Not talking about those kind of supporters, Uppity. The kind I see are the ones who pose like you and me, seen many like that on Althouse and know people like that personally. They all ought to have some remorse.

  202. You know, people constantly criticize Hillary for allegedly being too cautious, inauthentic, and not saying what she really believes. Then she said you could put half of Trump’s supporters in “a basket of deplorables”, and her critics jumped all over her for that. So, she can’t win no matter what. But the “deplorables” comment wasn’t far off the mark.

I saw an article about Trump voters in a certain county in Pennsylvania a few days ago. No, they’re not bad people, for the most part. No openly white supremacists among them. Of course, they find it easy to get past the open racism in Trump’s campaign. But what really struck me was that they all seemed to be ignorant as dirt. Ignorance can be overcome, if the ignorant persin takes the trouble to educate themselves. Ckearly, that didn’t happen here. They all believe globalism is a deliberate conspiracy by “elites” (and they define anyone who is educated and educates themselves as elite) to destroy all those factory jobs that have supported unskilled workers. It never enters their heads that technology has shrunk the world so that we now must compete with poorer nations, and unskilled workers are at risk in an economy which now requires everyone to have a skill. And many factory jobs and mining jobs were back-breaking, soul killing endeavors in the first place. Jobs not outsourced are rapidly being replaced by automation. Not entirely a bad thing. Yet, they buy Trump’s con that he can restore these unskilled jobs, kick out all the immigrants–illegal and legal, and “Make America Great Again”. Willful ignorance is as dangerous as outright racism and nativism.

  203. Apologize for typos. Too rushed to proof read thoroughly.

  204. pm317
So Time gave Hillary a consolation prize. Fuck them!

    I totally agree!

  205. So far, I only know 3 El Douche supporters personally. I got in a semi-screaming match with two of them, way before Nov 8th and the third I refuse to even talk about politics with her.

I will not waste my time on any Douche supporter, they are rabid…can’t wait until all his supporters feel the massive pain he will rain down on all of us…and I will start pointing a big fat finger at all of them. “YOU did this to yourself and to our country! You’re hero did not win the votes of the American public, he scammed the system and you got what you voted for”.

  206. Shadowfax, I am amazed that you only know three Trump supporters. I wish I could say the same. I am surrounded by Trump voters here in Georgia. I know more Trump voters than Clinton voters. It’s depressing.

  207. Every time I read the news I just want to scream.

  208. Dear Uppities – As an avid and devoted follower of your site, maybe I have something of value to offer at last. Here is a link to a way to communicate to the electors. I think it is reliable. I found out about it from and reliable source. And I also wrote them.

  209. i.e. Clinton as most admired woman from a Gallop poll taken in 2015 (linked above). I think she’ll easily take this ranking again in 2016.

  210. Pretty strong words by General Barry McCaffrey who is now speaking out against Michael Flynn and his “demented” tweets. (Video worth seeing.)

  211. With all the various awful things that have gone on in this campaign and election, it seems that the ultimately dispositive one was the voter supprression. Specifically, “Operation Crosscheck,” which apparently got about a million voters kicked off the rolls simply because they had the same first and last (not middle) names as people in other states, cost Hillary wins in MI, WI, and PA, and hence the election.

I am no expert in various legal challenges to suppressive voting rights laws, but I do not understand why the DOJ and the President were not on this a couple of years ago, when the VRA was essentially dismantled by the Supreme Court, allowing states to pass laws to substantially reduce the Democratic vote. This should have been a daily story, even if it took President Obama to make it one. I know there were some challenges, but they seemed haphazard and ineffective. I remember when, after WI required IDs, it was found that people were requesting and not getting them from DMV. And a court in that state ordered WI to provide them. But they stalled, and nothing was done. How is that allowed to happen? 300,000 people not allowed to vote because they lacked new IDs, and Hillary maybe loses the state by 20,000.

Now of course it is going to be much, much harder, with the Repuplicans controlling the Supreme Court, because Obama didn’t feel inclined to really fight for his choice, thus apparently unwittingly setting the incredible precedent that a Senate controlled by one party never has to even bring to hearing a Court nominee appointed by a president from the other party. But every resource the Democratic Party has, whatever that may be, has to be focused on the voter suppression laws. Taking over state legislatures is paramount. If it was said that Republicans could not win national election with the demographics, we have now learned that Democrats cannot win with the voter suppression laws which are going to get much worse. So if Democrats even intend to compete, they and their supporters have to spend money and time to fight against these laws. All the other nonsense written about “Democrats need to do this, or concentrate on these voters,” is ridiculous, compared to the fact that we win easily if it were not for legitimate eligible voters being robbed of their constitutional voting rights.

  212. I agree that the voter suppression was the #1 cause of this disaster.

As I’ve said before, if the Voting Rights Act had been gutted in 2005 instead of 2013, we would be discussing the winding-down of the McCain presidency.

Make it 2009, and we’d be discussing the upcoming second term of Romney.

Meanwhile, the Pure Left will keep insisting that if Senator Unicorn had been nominated instead, he’d have won, because Teh Evul Clinton was so uniquely repugnant (never mind that she actually won the popular vote).

If I belonged to one of the faiths which believed in reincarnation, I would wonder what horrid sins I had committed in a previous life, to be cursed to be reborn among such a miserable lot of self-destructive knuckle-walkers as the Great White Murkan Booboisie. 😡

  213. “Holocaust attorney sues FBI over election interference that could ‘lead to impeachment’ of Trump”
    David Edwards
    08 DEC 2016 AT 10:18 ET

“E. Randol Schoenberg, an attorney renowned for recovering artworks stolen by Nazis during the Holocaust, filed a lawsuit against the FBI this week to get answers about why Director James Comey falsely suggested that Hillary Clinton committed a crime just days before the 2016 election.

“I filed a lawsuit today against the US Department of Justice seeking immediate disclosure of the FBI search warrant for the e-mails of Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin on Anthony Weiner’s laptop,” Schoenberg wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday. “I think we need to see what ‘probable cause’ was shown for obtaining the search warrant, because whoever thought there was going to be evidence of a crime was obviously mistaken. And that mistake probably changed the outcome of the election.”

  214. By George,William,I think you’ve synthesized the chaos down to THE essential issue!! The road back to the Dems in power ( the success of a myriad of left leaning, even centrist issues and the salvation of our democracy and country) runs right through the voter suppression issue. Without that issue being resolved none of the rest can be resolved! Huzzah..some clarity.

Not an issue here in my state of Washington,we vote by mail. So where do we start the fight and how? Ideas anyone?

  215. I think voter suppression is the reason the Clinton camp is so skeptical about recounts. You can’t recount votes never cast. You can’t count them in the first place.

The very first step to ending voter suppression should be the adoption of national voting AND voting machine standards. Of course, Republicans would never agree to this or anything else which reformed a chaotic and corrupt system which benefits them.

  216. WLM,
Shadowfax, I am amazed that you only know three Trump supporters. I wish I could say the same. I am surrounded by Trump voters here in Georgia. I know more Trump voters than Clinton voters. It’s depressing.

I am so sorry for you WLM and other’s that are surrounded by the cult of El Douche, I really am.

I can’t imagine living outside of the CA bubble and having to deal with them on a daily basis. Thank God you have us here to help you keep your sanity.

  217. Okay, I stand corrected if the Time Magazine actually said things like this:

Time mag brands Trump a ‘huckster,’ calls Clinton ‘an American Moses’

  218. ‘All the other nonsense written about “Democrats need to do this, or concentrate on these voters,” is ridiculous, compared to the fact that we win easily if it were not for legitimate eligible voters being robbed of their constitutional voting rights.’

    What you said, wlm.

  219. Obviously, there is a tidal wave of anger and frustration among us, and the 66 milllion people who voted for Hillary; and somehow that has to be channeled as soon as possible into an immense effort to recapture state legislatures, in time for the 2020 census and redistricting.

People always feel at least somewhat better when there is at least a purpose and goal they can help to work toward. I hope it is more than on a state by state basis, and that there is some kind of national Democratic oommitee set up to help in these state races. So many of us sent hard-earned money to Hillary, and it is difficult to think of sending more so soon, but I think it has to be done. Now, it is possible that the population is so confused and fact-deprived that they don’t care, or don’t realize the implications. But Hillary did get 3 million more votes than Trump; and would have won but not for voter suppression. So we can hope that if the electorate actually gets to vote; and if some of those very stupid people who didn’t think it was worth voting, decide that maybe it is, we can reverse this dreadful course; even though it is truly tragic that Hillary did not become President. I think that turning it around becomes harder each year, so I hope an all-out effort is made to win back many state legislatures, which would probably mean the throwing out of the voting rights restrictions. The right-wing Supreme Court of the last decades has favored “states’ rights” over national rights, so we have to go after the states first. Apparently President Obama and his lauded team of campaign advisors never figured that out, or thought he could magically soar above such petty concerns .

  220. Of course it will amost certainly not get acted upon, but it is interesting, though of course so dreadfully frustrating, that E. Randol Schoenberg, portrayed in the very moving film, ‘The Woman in Gold,” who helped recover artworks stolen by the Nazis from Jewish families, is suing to investigate the causes of the warrant issued to grab Anthony Weiner’s laptop. I always wondered about that; how did the FBI get a warrant based on probable cause of a crime being committed? Some people made up some nonsense about Weiner’s “sexting” with a 15-year old girl. But where did that information come from? Anyway, once they grabbed the laptop, they held it for a month or so (of course they illegally looked at things which had nothing to do with sextingj, and then suddenly a warrant is obtained to do what? Because there is probable cause that Hillary Clinton committed a crime? That is absurd on many levels. No crime was committed, no prosecutor would ever even bring such a case, is what Comey had said earlier. So why would there be probable cause here? No halfway intelligent judge would ever grant a warrant on these circumstances.

This was such a set-up job, a complete trampling of legal and constitutional norms. The FBI very suspiciously takes a laptop owned by the husband of Hillarys’ long-time aide. That itself was probably illegal, based on vague allegations of “sexting.” Then the director tells the world that there might be something germane to the Hillary emails there. Then they get a warrant to investigate a crime based on probable cause standards? Lies and corruption everywhere in this matter. A complete violaton of civil rights, but of course done only with one purpose, to swing the election. In a fair world, Comey, the person who lied on the warrant, Giulani, Christie. all would go to jail for this. I’m glad that Schoenberg, who fought the Nazi sympathizers, is at least fighting here.

  221. Wlm, I didn’t know Schoenberg is the famed attorney from the movie (I still haven’t seen it.) I, too, am glad someone is trying to get to the bottom of Comeygate.

Schoenberg suspects three Trump allies–“New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — might have provided the false information to the FBI,” and in so doing broke the law when getting the warrant. I would love to see Comey and any of these three in jail for it.

  222. I’d give up a week of vacation time to know what is being discussed between Hillary and Bill right now. Has Hillary already thrown in the towel on this election or is anything ever going to happen for the better???

  223. Trixta, it is a fine movie, very heartfelt; gives one some hope for humanity.

  224. Thank you Voting for that little speech by our girl today.

    It’s hard not to cry…

  225. Her little angel haircut is cute.

  226. Thanks so much Voting for the Hillary speech video…

  227. Almost no votes have been counted, added to the tally today.

  228. John Glenn died today at age, 95.

  229. My question still is: why the DOJ has not done a thing regarding the Comey’s interference?
Why all this hands off from the government still in power?

    OK. Mr. No-Drama…su mama…

  230. I look forward to seeing that film, wlm (6:33pm).

Great video, Voting! Hillary is ever gracious and still wearing purple.

“Purple—halfway between red and blue—is considered the color of American bipartisanship and many commentators praised the color choice as a graceful way to emphasize her message of unity. Vanity Fair notes that there were a few alternative theories, with some suggesting she wore purple because it was one of the colors of the suffragettes—or because it is the Methodist color of “penitence and royalty.”

  231. Shadow:
    Why are not finish counting?
    do you know?

  232. We have a right to know what Comey knew and when he knew it and what the extent was of the Russians interfering in the election. Obama can solve that last one easily and he probably can solve the Comey problem too but alas relying on Obama to do something is a fool’s errand.

  233. Is this a Faux News or WTF?

“The state attorney general’s office, representing Secretary of State Pedro Cortes, a Democrat, attacked the recount effort by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein as an effort to undo the presidential election won by Republican Donald Trump.”

Pennsylvania fights Green Party recount bid in federal court

  234. Rip John Glenn…a true American hero.

  235. So William got me to thinking today and this is where I am:

    Republican Recipe for Stealing Elections;
    !) Takeover state legislatures.
    2) Write voter id laws that target minorities and students who primarily vote Democratic.
    3) Put in place any other obstacles that will reduce voter turn out in those groups.( Ignore court orders if necessary or at least delay past voting deadlines)
    4) Disseminate as much false news and display as many shiny objects as possible to distract the media from the fact that you’re doing these things and that your Emperor has no clothes ( or policies).

Repeat until you take over the US government..after that none of this matters anymore.

Democratic Recipe for Taking It All Back:
    1) Short term send new Freedom Riders to various states that have the most Electoral votes and the most onerous and restrictive voter suppression laws ( Hint: check all the states w/Republican Governors and majority Repub state houses). Label these laws modern Jim Crow laws. Do it during slow news times so the media will feel obliged to cover. This should also appeal to young activists.
    2) Lobby in those states to go to vote by mail because it’s:
    a) Cheaper b) harder to hack c) completely goes around the voter ID ,broken down equipment and long lines ways of suppressing vote d) INCREASES voter participation e) Is easier to monitor for voter fraud w/all the counting machines in one place. ( I’m hoping the Repubs would get on board because of cost savings and only after it’s too late figure out it goes against their best interest.)
    3) Have the DNC set up an Action Alliance Group where people can submit action proposals for things they want to do either locally or against some of Trump’s legislative moves. Could be funded a la GoFund me like website.

Is this too off the wall? I was trying to figure out the quickest way to get back the majority which we’ll never do as long as the Repubs control voting restriction laws in crucial states. I thought the vote by mail thingy was a sneaky way to get around their agenda. IMHO

    Thoughts? Opinions? Bueller?

  236. Cambridge Analytica, data company first used by Cruz campaign and later by the buffoon. Well, I don’t need Big Data to analyze the psychographics of Trump supporters. The rubes were fed red meat to dumb them down further. But the ones who should have known better also fell for the buffoon. This video is before the election and I read somewhere they used tool for MI, WI, PA. Also read some 91% GOP turnout without GOTV, no field operations, nothing. But how much of it is fraud, how much of it is third party to screw the popular vote winner? This is ‘FAKE’ election.

  237. Another link on Cambridge Analytica. A cursory look makes me think these are the real FAKE news people pumping fake news/ads to easily led, gullible people. Another form of voter suppression and they tried to suppress Hillary’s voters with their ads and ‘psychographic’ persuasion in MI, WI, PA. Again the rubes that are Trump supporters have simple psychography and don’t need much persuasion. Dumb fuckers.

  238. Click on the tweet to see what the pic says.

  239. Here is a cleaner version of that list from Sarah’s tweet:

  240. These are all crooks preying the mentally weak and unstable people. This is going to be a nightmare administration.

  241. Trixta

Hillary is ever gracious and still wearing purple.

I noticed that too, wonder exactly what message she is trying to give us. I know purple was one of the colors the Suffragettes wore. Could that be her message?

In an age before telephones, radio, and television, the use of color served as an instant means of visual recognition and became vividly symbolic in the suffrage movement. Two major color themes were used throughout American suffrage imagery:

The indigenous American tradition using gold or yellow coupled with a variety of subordinate colors
The imported use of the British suffrage colors – purple, white, and green, and its American variant purple, white, and gold.

  242. pm317, on December 8, 2016 at 10:10 PM

WTF. Where the Hell are Clinton lawyers??????????????????

  243. Watched Hillary’s speech. She understands and is again warning people. But everyone around her is interested in their own self-interest and self-preservation, (Schumer is a joke). What a loss for this once great country!

  244. Shadow, I don’t think Hillary is interested in fighting this battle and I don’t blame her. If I were her, I would be disgusted.

  245. pm317 at 10:10 PM…
That tweet from Rebecca Soinit says it all.

America, the orange Demon -the Trump, has grabbed by the pussy.

  246. People will remember what an abomination this election was till they die.

  247. Msdsal, I think you have analyzed it well. And your suggestions would be a very good way to start. The absolute imperative of voting has to be made clear. and then whatever can be done to fight the voting suppression laws, which certainly includes winning at the state legislature and governor level. North Carolina was at least one step in that direction. A lot of 2010 Republican governors are going to be termed out in the midterms, and we have to win many of those.

  248. Perhaps she’s practicing as the poem suggests.

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

  249. A lot of 2010 Republican governors are going to be termed out in the midterms, and we have to win many of those..

  250. Good for Schoenberg to go after ratfucker Comey. btw, we loved “Woman in Gold.”

  251. Greg Lake also died today. Cancer. God I hate this year.

  252. pm, that tweet by Monica Alba is heartbreaking.

  253. More on Pizzagate and these Republicans are beyond evil. They should be scarred for life. But it was also perpetrated by some woman in Belleville, Ont. (is that Canada? yeah, it is) who helped spread it to the Republican rubes in this country. I hope the restaurant owner and the Podesta brothers sue the fuck out of these people.

  254. Msdal, your ideas are good. I like voting by mail. Restoring voting rights and election integrity should be first on agenda. I’m sickened by what is going on with the recounts.

That slimy looking Jared K is creepy bastard.

  255. Is there karma, schadenfreude in this world?

  256. Oh that another thing that pisses me off to no end–this pizza-fucking-gate? Why didn’t Hillary sue these assholes for libel? Why can’t she sue them now?

  257. Or, why doesn’t the Pizza restaurant sue?

  258. Patreaus was a poke in the eye for us, Hillary supporters. This is an evil, demented man.

  259. pm @ 12:21pm: we can only hope these days…

  260. This is how a dictator governs – already in fear of the governed. The women’s march has been banned, along with any other protests in the area, for up to weeks before, during and after the installation:

(from a link further down the page in the Rebecca Soinit tweet posted by pm317)

  261. socalannie, Hillary and Podesta brothers should sue. Remember how Peter Theil helped Hulk Hogan suing Gawker and running them to the ground. I think some of these lefty billionaires should help Podesta brothers and the pizza restaurant owner and go after Jones, Flynn, this Canadian woman and every other sucker who spreads fake news for a living on the Internet. This is a fundamental challenge of our times to gain back control of the Internet. Especially and more so when democratic processes are fundamentally destroyed. She lost the election because of this. I don’t think this is a 1st amendment issue and certainly not after how Gawker was ruined and run to the ground.

  262. Yep, Earlynerd, I saw that and this is very bad.

  263. msdal, good list of ideas! I’m in WA state too. Any local groups to work with that you’d recommend?

  264. Shadow, that’s funny what Time said about Dump & Hillary. They also said that the “devils horns” over his head (the letter “M”) was accidental. But they also didn’t retouch his photo and put him in a shabby chair.

  265. pm @ 12:30, excellent idea.

  266. Fuck you, bitch!

  267. Thank you lucyk. I’ll try it.

  268. BOYCOTT FACEBOOK!! Start a campaign. Mass deletion of accounts even for a short time just to make a point.

  269. I retweeted the Wrap tweet with a nastyish message to Sandberg.

  270. Thanks for the feedback William and Socal. NWluna;I’m thinking of typing these ideas up into a better format and going to Patty Murray’s office in Everett;see if I can get someone to listen..or at least pretend to.Don’t really know any local groups to work with;more looking for a back door to slip through.Or an ear that has access to another ear that might know a person who knows a person who can get me access to…

Also am beginning to feel like Trump’s cabinet picks are a big middle finger to the American people. The man does like to get even, doesn’t he?

  271. The right of free association and protest has been a part of our society since its inception, with the exception of John Adams’ infamous Alien and Sedition Acts. I think that a case should be brought to the Supreme Court in regard to these protests. Let’s see what rationale the Court would be able to come up with to overturn two centuries of permitting protest marches. People died for tht right. I would hope that they do not give it up willingly just because Trump and his people try to take it away.

  272. Shadow, perhaps Hillary’s purple means the struggle to break that highest glass ceiling continues. Or perhaps Uppity’s poem says it all. Great poem btw, Uppity!

I came across an interesting link about a new website (by former Clinton staffer) that deals with Trump’s mounting conflicts of interest and corruption. The website is the following:

  273. Thanks! socalannie, on December 9, 2016 at 12:53 AM said:

  274. trixta, that site, already has so much, so much… he is showing everyone he can do whatever he wants. Why is everyone so powerless? Not even a single group of lawmakers, a President and his administration, a party, nothing can take him on? Why? or how is that possible?

  275. If I may speculate:

    *dons chapeau de Reynolds Wrap*

Perhaps Pence is a mole for the GOP Establishment (GOPe hereafter).

Maybe the GOPe is sitting on proof that, for example, Russia did hack the elections. It could be one or more of many other things as well.

Once Pumpkinhead and Pence are inaugurated, the GOPe, through a third party, can leak the truth.

The GOP House and Senate will be shocked, shocked, that Pumpkinhead could be so corrupt! They’ll impeach him and remove him, Pence will become Prez, and Pumpkinhead’s legions of dumb@$$es will be left holding the bag again.

Most of the dumb@$$es will just grumble in their beer. The militarized police, and if necessary, the National Guard, can deal with the few who will riot.

  276. If Trump has been compromised with Russia then Pence has been too so I’m not sure how that works. It would seem they would have to get rid of Pence too. Maybe the ultimate plan is to have Paul Ryan as President.

  277. After the Reid event, Hillary Clinton greeted several Kaine staffers and young supporters, some of whom can be heard sobbing in this video

I bet it was really hard for Hillary to not cry at this event. What a hero for so many women and men.

  278. Uppity Woman,
Perhaps she’s practicing as the poem suggests.

What a sweet poem. I have already started some of these suggestions 😉

Sometimes I wear a little purple, I do like little boxes and containers to keep my art stuff in. I do raise Hell more often and louder than I did before 2007. Make-up is optional now, but more of a conscious thought than a daily habit.

Good for Hillary, doing things HER way for many, many public years.

  279. Another day late and a dollar short by the anything but wise, Obama.
He waits until it’s too damn late to affect the election.

Obama orders ‘full review’ of election-related hacking

  280. re Hillary suing defamers, especially the pedophile lies. This question was asked on Chris Cilizza’s chat today (washpost) and here is his response:

“The problem is figuring out who the “author” is. These Internet rumors are incredibly difficult to trace. Remember that this isn’t like a news story with a byline etc. This is just clip and paste rumor mongering where the origins are very hard to figure out.”

  281. Maybe she just likes purple.

  282. Hey, Sheryl Sandberg, lean in and kiss my ass.

  283. Ivory Bill, I have come to the conclusion that there is no “cleverness” in what the Republicans do. they just want the power and the money. Ryan sits there and professes not to care if there are any Trump conflicts of interest, says that Trump can work them out. He is so anxious to get to his life’s work of destroying the safety net for tens of millions of Americans, that Trump is simply the agent through which he can accomplish it. And so for the people who want to get rid of government, take away a woman’s choice, despoil all of our natural resources.

Trump is fine with them. Anyone who won would be. In a perceptive country and with a responsible media, the Russian interferences would be horrifying, and it would have destroyed Trump’s candidacy. But everyone just let it go. All the Republican and media hammering away about “the Clinton Foundation, bad optics,” and the relentless probing into every email that Podesta might have written, was just in order to win the election for Trump, not because it reflected standards. Trump will be the most financially and ethicall compromised president imaginable, and no one cares much.. Most of his advisors have clear Russian connections, no one cares. But they were just horrified that a Nobel Prize winner foreign official got to meet with Hillary, because, wow, he also gave to the Clinton Foundation! What I have learned, is that nothing the media says reflects anything but their political agenda. And the Republicans are like carnival barkers who will change their pitch every few minutes, if they think it might con some more people into the tent. Finally, the Republicans will never impeach their own candidate, it might hurt their brand. They will try to impeach any Democratic President, though. It’s “just business” to them; there is not one shred of moral fabric there. They might prefer Pence, but they are imimensely grateful to Trump for “winning,” and they did everything they couuld to suppress and fix the vote for him. I don’t know if there is anything that Trump could do that would ever cause them to consider impeachment. Their only slight regret is that they couldn’t get to do hundreds of hearings on Hillary, that is always a lot of fun for them.

  284. “Maybe she just likes purple.”

): As Freud once said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

  285. “[T]hat site, already has so much, so much.”

Truly, pm. I noticed that too–and Trumpzilla hasn’t even been sworn in!

  286. Hillary may like purple, but she is making a huge point of it now.

Just like her wearing white for her nomination, and red, white and blue in each of her debates.

    I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

  287. I agree the Republicans will never impeach Trump regardless of what he does. He can charge heads of state a fee whenever they enter the WH. They won’t care. The ordinary Republican voter has shown they will vote for anyone the party nominates–no matter if he is a sociopath and brings a lot of sociopaths with him. At the same time, the party establishment doesn’t want to alienate all the new knuckle draggers Trump brought in by impeaching him. The only concern people like Paul Ryan ever had about Trump was that he’d drive out as many traditional Republicans as he’d bring in. Obviously, they overestimated the number of mainstream Republicans with a moral compass.

  288. Purple can signify mourning and in the US it signifies bravery (purple heart). I think it suits her well.

    December 5, 2016 / John Pavlovitz

In a land where the states are united, they claim,
in a sky-scraping tower adorned with his name,
lived a terrible, horrible, devious chump,
the bright orange miscreant known as the Trump.

This Trump he was mean, such a mean little man,
with the tiniest heart and two tinier hands,
and a thin set of lips etched in permanent curl,
and a sneer and a scowl and contempt for the world.

He looked down from his perch and he grinned ear to ear,
and he thought, “I could steal the election this year!
It’d be rather simple, it’s so easily won,
I’ll just make them believe that their best days are done!
Yes, I’ll make them believe that it’s all gone to Hell,
and I’ll be Jerk Messiah and their souls they will sell.

And I’ll use lots of words disconnected from truth,
but I’ll say them with style so they won’t ask for proof.
I’ll speak random platitudes, phrases, and such,
They’re so raised on fake news that it won’t matter much!
They won’t question the how to, the what, why, or when,
I will make their America great once again!”

The Trump told them to fear, they should fear he would say,
“They’ve all come for your jobs, they’ll all take them away.
You should fear every Muslim and Mexican too,
every brown, black, and tan one, everyone who votes blue.”

And he fooled all the Christians, he fooled them indeed,
He just trotted out Jesus, that’s all Jesus folk need.
And celebrity preachers they crowned him as king,
Tripping over themselves just to kiss the Trump’s ring.

And he spoke only lies just as if they were true,
Until they believed all of those lies were true too.
He repeated and Tweeted and he blustered and spit,
And he mislead and fibbed—and he just made up sh*t.

And the media laughed but they printed each line,
thinking “He’ll never will win, in the end we’ll be fine.”
So they chased every headline, bold typed every claim,
‘Till the fake news and real news they looked just the same.

And the scared folk who listened, they devoured each word,
Yes, they ate it all up every word that they heard,
petrified that their freedom was under attack,
trusting Trump he would take their America back.
from the gays and from ISIS, he’d take it all back,
Take it back from the Democrats, fat cats, and blacks.
And so hook, line, and sinker they all took the bait,
all his lies about making America great.

Now the Pantsuited One she was smart and prepared,
she was brilliant and steady but none of them cared,
no they cared not to see all the work that she’d done,
or the fact that the Trump had not yet done thing one.
They could only shout “Emails!”, yes “Emails!” they’d shout,
because Fox News had told them—and Fox News had clout.
And the Pantsuited One she was slandered no end,
and a lie became truth she could never defend.
And the Trump watched it all go according to plan—
a strong woman eclipsed by an insecure man.

And November the 8th arrived, finally it came,
like a slow-moving storm but it came just the same.
And Tuesday became Wednesday as those days will do,
And the night turned to morning and the nightmare came true,
With millions of non-voters still in their beds,
Yes, the Trump he had done it, just like he had said.

And the Trumpers they trumped, how they trumped when he won,
All the racists and bigots; deplorable ones,
they crawled out from the woodwork, came out to raise Hell,
they came out to be hateful and hurtful as well.
With slurs and with road signs, with spray paint and Tweets,
with death threats to neighbors and taunts on the street.
And the grossest of grossness they hurled on their peers,
while the Trump he said zilch—for the first time in years.

But he Tweeted at Hamilton, he Tweeted the Times,
And he trolled Alec Baldwin a few hundred times,
and he pouted a pout like a petulant kid,
thinking this is what Presidents actually did,
thinking he could still be a perpetual jerk,
terrified to learn he had to actually work,
work for every American, not just for a few,
not just for the white ones—there was much more to do.
He now worked for the Muslims and Mexicans too,
for the brown, black, and tan ones, and the ones who vote blue.
They were all now his bosses, now they all had a say,
and those nasty pantsuited ones were here to stay.
And the Trump he soon realized that he didn’t win,
He had gotten the thing—and the thing now had him.

And it turned out the Trump was a little too late,
for America was already more than quite great,
not because of the sameness, the opposite’s true,
It’s greatness far more than just red, white, and blue,
It’s straight, gay, and female—it’s Gentile and Jew,
It’s Transgender and Christian and Atheist too.
It’s Asians, Caucasians of every kind,
The disabled and abled, the deaf and the blind,
It’s immigrants, Muslims, and brave refugees,
It’s Liberals with bleeding hearts fixed to their sleeves.
And we are all staying, we’re staying right here,
and we’ll be the great bane of the Trump for four years.
And we’ll be twice as loud as the loudness of hate,
be the greatness that makes our America great.
And the Trump’s loudest boasts they won’t ever obscure,
over two million more of us—voted for her.

If There’s No Presidential Vote Recount, What Happens To The Money Jill Stein Raised?

  295. Aw, Neetabug, that is a great poem! It brought tears to my eyes, with its optimism toward the end, though it may be just wishful. Consistent meter, too! Sort of like a Lewis Carroll type of metered verse, but less whimsical. I hope that goes out on the internet to many people, including the media.

  296. I’m with you Shadow. Obama’s always a day late and a dollar short no matter what happens. WTF has been wrong with him for 8 years? It took him 6 years to finally figure out that the GOP was not going to work with him. He called Comey “honorable”. Did he want Hillary to lose or what? Sometimes I wonder.

  297. “Rudy Giuliani Won’t Be Trump’s Secretary Of State”
Remaining contenders for secretary of state include Mitt Romney and an Exxon Mobil CEO.

  298. Trixta: Did you see Maddow’s piece on the Exxon CEO? Decades of experience at Exxon, nothing else. Was close to finalizing a $500 Billion deal with Russians when it came to a halt due to Obama’s sanctions against Russia for invading Crimea. The swamp is getting way too crowded and incestuous.

  299. Exxon Mobile CEO for SOS? Look at his Cabinet of billionaires and CEO’s. Most are utterly unqualified, just wealthy elitists. Middle class people who voted for Trump thinking he was a populist have to be the dumbest people on the planet.

  300. Shadow, I don’t think Hillary is interested in fighting this battle and I don’t blame her. If I were her, I would be disgusted.

OK, but where at least are Stein’s lawyers? She’s the one who filed for these recounts.

Besides, if somebody doesn’t fight these battles, then THEY win.

Partly OT, but I’m on Medicaid and I might need heart surgery. If Trump becomes president I honestly think it might put my life in danger.

  301. Brassy, I suspect many Trump supporters couldn’t care less who he appoints. Either that or they believe that their wealth and connections make them good choices for cabinet positions. Trump knows how to hire and fire, they’ve seen it on TV.

  302. Where did Palin, Rudy, Newt go wrong (and we know about Christie) ? They didn’t lick his foot enough? But Rudy — he helped him with Comey and NYPD, Comey! — so why didn’t he get what he wanted?

  303. He said he would appoint all big m/billionaires (and crooks) — in his warped view of this world, that is how things get done and he is executing that plan. If only he aimed his crookedness not on American people but the bad players in this world like ISIS or Russia or China, but he does not have the courage or smartness to take those mfers on. He will steal, plunder, and enrich himself and his other sewer rats and along the way, stick it to women, minorities, immigrants, and maybe even the white majority at some point.

  304. Neetabug @ 4:06 pm That was fantastic!

A pitch perfect replication of the Grinch – it’s going up on my door, right next to “Axial Tilt Is The Reason For The Season”.

  305. oops.. this is the one. So is this an internal skirmish between CIA and FBI to expose Russia? Since Rudy is under the bus, FBI may have lost this one.

  306. A few rogue FBI agents from New York were quick to “leak” erroneous informatoin to the media, that the FBI had determined that Russia was not trying to influence the election for Trump, just cause some chaos in general. That was completely untrue, but the ever reliable CNN ran that as a chyron for a couple of days, and no more was said. Why any responsible journalist would not investigate the source of this ‘FBI information” is unfathomable–except that they are not responsible journalists, they are partisans pretending to be journalists.

Much as one would like to hope that Obama is finally doing something, it is very likely that the only reason he is calling for this investigation, too late to change the resutls, is because the Democratic Senators on the Intelligence Committee wrote a letter to him requesting “release of explosive information.” He didn’t release any information, just called for an investigation which likely will never be finished before January, and then will of course dissipate after that. It’s better than nothing, I guess, but it should have been done three months ago, and Hillary would be preparing for her inaugural. I have completely stopped watching all cable news, but I am assuming that this is not even being covered by any of them; they are breathlessly talking about cabinet picks and how the stock market has gone up (it is mostly bank stocks, as bankers salivate over a return to the good old days of the bubbles).

  307. Something is fishy about Rudy being dropped like a hot potato.

  308. “Did you see Maddow’s piece on the Exxon CEO? Decades of experience at Exxon, nothing else.”

Cats, I haven’t seen Maddow’s show today, but I get the sense this Exxon guy is very bad news.

Branjor, Pelosi and the Dem’s plan to keep Trump’s gubby little hands off of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc., by implementing the same tactics they used to fight off GWB and the Repubs from trying to gut these programs.

  309. So, when is Obama going to call for another election, now that critical facts are out? And will Congress refuse to allow a fair election?

  310. The buffoon’s continuing EP gig on The Apprentice show…I think this article misses something my cynical mind is screaming inside. He wants control of that product for eternity. CONTROL. Can’t let those videos surface inconveniently at any point.

  311. Good question Gray @ 10:19 PM

Has there ever been a repeat of the election and do our laws allow for it?

Inquiring minds would like to know and aren’t sure how to search for it.

  312. Gray: I’d rather see Trump and Pence concede and have Hillary declared the winner. I don’t think any of us could handle another election, plus we need to get Obama out of there. He’s had his shot, let the lady play her hand.

  313. Neetabug, thank you so much for sharing the poem.. Loved it!

  314. “Here’s one of the biggest questions Democrats face in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s loss: Did Clinton have an Electoral College problem or does the Democratic Party have an Electoral College problem?”

  315. Cats, Trump /Pence will never step down. Their team already put out a stupid statement about the washpost report.
Trump just told his crowd that he doesn’t need them anymore! I really think he is insane. Seriously. Maybe not in a schizophrenic way but definitely some serious personality disorder that is equally debilitating.

  316. trixta, without reading the article, I will hazard a guess that the Democratic party has a EC problem because all you need is a few 100 more votes in a few critical precincts in a red state. With voter suppression at the voter rolls and polling places, it is made even more easy.

  317. Branjor, Pelosi and the Dem’s plan to keep Trump’s gubby little hands off of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc., by implementing the same tactics they used to fight off GWB and the Repubs from trying to gut these programs.

Good, that’s a relief! May they be successful! Thanks, trixta!

I’m so heartbroken about this election. I can’t even begin to touch the enormity of it all. It was Hillary’s time. It was our time. What was done to her and to all of us to deprive us of her leadership and guidance was unspeakably evil.

  318. Apparently Obama let the Republicans talk him out of releasing the CIA report, because it was “too explosive.” Then a week or so later, the FBI wrote the letter to the House Repubicans. Then a few days after that, there was the bogus FBI “leak” which said that the Russians were not trying to sway the election. Obama knows that this is untrue, but still does nothing. He lets Hillary sit there and have to fend off day after day of carefully selected wikileaks/Russian hacked mails, which the media treats as if they were given to them by the Clinton campaign, not clear evidence of foreign tampering in the election. And he still does nothing. He lets her have to deal with the FBI’s clear corrupt partisanship, and all he says is that Comey is an honorable man. It is as if he blames her in some way. and thinks that she has to deal with this all on her own, rather than do his job as President, and inform the American people what is going on.

So Trump “wins,” and we don’t know what kind of hacking there was on election day along with everything else. And Russia has now essentially taken over the country, at least for its purposes. And Obama still didn’t want to release anything, except some Senators demanded that he do so. And he does it way too late to affect even a vote recount. He let Hillary fight the FBI, the Russians, the wikileaks, all on her own, because he didn’t want to get involved, didn’t want to give up his carefully protected aura of nonpartisanship. He never fought the Republicans when it mattered, not even when they wouldn’t give his Supreme Court nominee a hearing for a year. And at the very end, he let Republicans convince him not to tell the nation that the CIA had clear evidence that the Russians were trying to swing the election. He instead just let them do it. Oh, he thought Hillary would win, and he unquestionably wanted her to win, but that is not the point at all. I don’t even know how to characterize all of this. I know that Obama will be viewed by tens of millions of people, and that some will blame Hiillary for this “loss.” I blame Obama and I believe that he let the country and the people down in one o the worst ways that a President ever could. The Russians chose their opponent well, and I do not mean Hillary Clinton.

Hillary is now up by 2.83 million votes, and 2.1%.

  319. pm317,
oops.. this is the one. So is this an internal skirmish between CIA and FBI to expose Russia? Since Rudy is under the bus, FBI may have lost this one.

So yes, this is a BFD. I think you’re right pm, the CIA might be exposing the T-corruption in the FBI that Commie belonged to, that prompted the Congress to get Obama to release the info they were recently privy to, to the public. In turn, Obama says he wants an investigation after the horse has already left the damn barn. He wants the evidence by the time he is ready to leave office.

He is a damn coward and had better get crackin’…he owes Hillary his entire legacy.

  320. William, on December 10, 2016 at 12:06 AM

I totally agree with EVERYTHING you said!

  321. Thanks William and Voting for the vote updates.

Looks like they did count more votes today and finally posted them.

I want to see Hillary pass the 3 million votes ahead mark.

She kicked his ass and he is a BIG, FAT LOSER!!!!!

  322. Shadow, remember that August letter to Comey from Reid. They knew it then but Obama sat on it. Since August! Reid goaded Comey again in October after Comey did the illegal act.

  323. According to this, CA has FINALLY finished their vote count on the election a month ago.

I wish that we knew how many votes in our country are still uncounted.

  324. pm317,
Shadow, remember that August letter to Comey from Reid.

I do remember that and that might be why Hillary was raving for Harry yesterday, knowing that he is the one defending her, in the end.

Obama has let this all happen, he is a total failure in my book.

  325. Do we have any intelligent legal patriots in this country that are smart enough to stop this train wreck and defend Hillary???

Almost 3 million votes and all the boyz were lined up to rip her to shreds.

Hillary is our Joan of Arc and the old white men hate her because she is more intelligent and genuine than all of them put together.

  326. I think we should have a new thread displaying Hillary winning vote lead and blaming all the outside factors that are preventing her from being the People’s President.

  327. What I just saw in the vote report is:

    2, 841, 862 votes more for Hillary…

  328. total popular vote:

  329. My best guess is that Obama thought Hillary was going to win and didn’t want to rock the boat if he didn’t have to. Then his excuse was maybe Trump will be OK after all,if he appoints some good people and listens to them.
In the past few weeks,Trump has demonstrated that he intends for the white nationalists,Koch/Mercer/Devos /Wall Street /Russian associated clan to run roughshod over the American people..their healthcare, social security and medicare/aid.
Maybe Obama finally got the picture that Russia has arranged a COUP in this country.
My tin foil hat hope is that ,since the CIA “assessment” is essentially already in place;he will use that as a reason to have the DOJ force WI,MI and PA to have hand recounts in all counties and a forensic investigation of the voting machines in PA,that have no paper trail.

I remember wondering if,even though the individual voting machines weren’t connected to the internet;if the machines that reported their results to the states WERE connected to the internet..very vulnerable for hacking there. Tonight in a letter written by a recount lawyer re: the WI recount ( found this on the Palmer Report) he indicated that some of these machines did contain “modems” that were connected to the internet and, therefore, vulnerable to hacking.

Maybe Obama will grow a pair, call the election results into question and order the recounts. Seriously,Hillary’s won the popular vote by 2% which coincides with her reported lead prior to the election. Clearly some people’s votes didn’t get counted as they should have.Let’s find out why BEFORE Jan.20,prior to our descent into hell.

  330. People on Twitter are comparing this Russian cyber attack to Pearl Harbor. Actually, horrible as Pearl Harbor was as a military loss, this is worse. Japan did not take over our government. And our president did more than order a review and a report months after the attack.

  331. I am wondering what the bigger threat will be; Russia attacking us, or Russia getting us to attack China; or China attacking us first? This is a deadly serious business. The people who let it come to this are variously evil, abysmally stupid, corrupt, ineffectual, and cowardly.Like this colossal impending train wreck that some people wanted, others thought was amusing that it might happen, others didn’t want to make the effort to stop; others were paralyzed with fear, or confident that it wouldn’t actually happen. And the train wreck still can somehow be avoided, but that would take immense courage, decency, and intelligence among various parties, but it looks as if everyone will say that the wreck is too far along to risk trying to avert it, so let’s just see what happens now.

  332. Per William’s comment, I strongly advise you all read the book “The Rape of Nanking”. It reveals all the Japanese horrors done to China in WW2, some far worse than Hitler’s Germany. Yet, Japan, courtesy of the US, has the “peaceful” reputation while Germany is still equated with the Nazis. Prior to WW2, the only country to never wage war against another was…China. What happened to Nanking and Shang-Hai opened the door for Ho Chi Min and his reign of terror.

Weakening our country takes out the lone player to keep China and Russia at bay. And China has a score to setttle with Japan.

  333. Trump’s call to Taiwan’s leader surely made Putin smile and may have been his idea. Vlad can’t believe his good fortune. In his wildest dreams, Putin probably never expected to pull this off so smoothly.

  334. Yep, I was thinking about this too.

  335. There is a lot going on but Obama may have sat on his hands again for far too long. His legacy will be one of handing over power to an illegitimate president-elect, a true Manchurian candidate.

    Rudy who got Comey to send that letter is under the bus;
Newt who wrote a novel entitled “Treason” with a plot that has a foreign player embedded in the American government is left behind — no gig for him; Flynn the Russian stooge got what they wanted, access to all things national security.

Of all the pieces of the puzzle, Rudy under the bus and this big CIA revelation coming at the same time seems to be saying a lot.

  336. If you remember Hillary told the American people that 17 different Intelligence Community Agencies were reporting on Russia’s interference with the election process. It was during a debate yet I don’t remember a single media story following up on that claim or investigating what those agencies were saying and who they were.
I couldn’t believe it when I’d turn on CNN to find them just showing Trump campaign rallies in their entirety from start to finish without comment. Never once did I see them do that for Hillary.
I still blame the media for normalizing what we are seeing happen right now as Trump places all the deplorables in charge of our government. We’ll eventually see outrage from Trump supporters as their lives a turned upside down (see Social Security and Medicare, skyrocketing insurance premiums, tax cuts for the rich meaning tax revenue reducing services and no damn jobs) but it will be too late.

  337. Maybe Tsar Vlad has some kompromat (blackmail material) on Obummer?

  338. Reid was the canary in the coal mines in August. Nobody pushed to get to the bottom of it. Here we are.

  339. lildoggu4u, this is the debate snippet you are talking about…

  340. Idiot Trump supporters, read/see and weep or burn in hell.

  341. That occurred to me too, Ivory Bill. Obama seemed to lose interest in the Russian interference sometime in the fall.

  342. COMEY + NYT; this from Reid’s Dep. Chief of Staff:

  343. There are still some idiots, media or Berniebots who are saying that if the Dem candidate had resiliency she would have weathered the emails better. Fuck them.

  344. Huh, look at this. Was the server talking to the Russians was on this floor too?

  345. Of course, if playing politics is to save the nation and its democracy…

  346. Even down here in GA the headlines are screaming that Russia intervened in the election on behalf of Trump. Too bad there are not enough people in the GOP with some cojones to do something about it.

  347. Slightly off topic: If Pumpkinhead really wants to restore American greatness, let him revitalize the space program. (The recent death of John Glenn made me think of this.)

  348. I think there should be a rousing rebellion asking Trump to concede BEFORE Dec 19 and the EC giving it to Hillary, the monumental popular vote victor. That is the only way this can be resolved. The perpetrator has to own up or pushed to own up to this travesty in the interest of the country. Trump should be made to think which is better — impeachment later or concession now.

  349. Now it’s looking like the Russkies hacked the Republican National Committee as well–and released nada, zip, zilch from the GOP.

Of course, if Tsar Vlad had decided to tilt the election to Hillary instead, we would hear about NOTHING ELSE from the “objective”, “professional”media operatives. 😡

  350. We have to understand that- above all- Obama wants to hobnob with the very hedge fund billionaires who are celebrating Trump’s “win.”
He dreams of sitting on corporate boards, rubbing elbows with the super rich, being feted and paid enormous sums of money.
Did anyone really think he’d rock that boat?

  351. Quoth Driftglass:

“Once you start to notice that a depressingly large number of our fellow citizens have become reprogrammable Orwellian meat-puppets, the rise of Trump is not hard to understand at all.”

Yep. Democracy only works if a majority of citizens are at least moderately intelligent and accurately educated.

“Accurately” because most of the problem with our fellow citizens is not what they don’t know, but what they think they DO know that isn’t so.

  352. The Russians hacked the RNC so that they would have material to threaten to use against Republican leaders after they got Trump elected. The Russians are apparentlly using all kinds of cyber attacks against Merkel in Germany, as Russia wants to destroy all of Europe, with the help of their puppet in Washington.

It does me no good to attack Obama, but as far as I am concerned, what he did not do, regarding informing the American people of this very real threat to sovereignty and democracy, was abhorrent, a true case of appeasement, and failure to defend the country. There is no legitimate excuse that I can see for this. Now he only asks for an investigation because Democratic senators and a couple of Republican senators demanded it. And it is way too late. December 13 is “safe harbor” day for counting votes; December 19 is electoral college voting day. And nothing will change. The only reason he wants the investigation finished before inauguration is because he knows Trump will kill it.

But what great good is it going to do, if none of this stops Trump from becoming President? He appears to be a complete tool of Russia, will do everything Russia tells him. His NSA chief is probablly employed by Russia. So Obama has essentially given our country to the Russians. Hillary was the hero, the person who tried to tell people what was going on, only to be drowned out by the evil media, and basicallly left out in the cold by Obama, to sound as if she were justs being partisan, or complaining. And so, like in a momentous tragedy play, Obama’s failings, the ones that made us all think that he should not be President, certainly not over Hillary, manifested themselves, to cost us Hillary and the country. But the media, always Obama’s protectors, and Hillary’s attackers, will spin the story in his favor, and blame Hillary for the election loss, because it is part of their overarching narrative which has gone on at least since 2007. I’ve read stories like that, too, and they always leave one with a feeling of anger and helplessness. But this is real.

  353. Everything bad that will happen now is OK with the Trump Chumps, just so they showed us uppity know-it-all Libtards and them uppity wimmin and uppity culluds who was boss.

The Trump Chumps may have surpassed jihadi suicide bombers for the title of Dumbest Mo-Fos on Planet Earth.

    Take it away, Captain.

  354. Sweet Sue has a point; I was overlooking the most obvious explanation for the appeasement policy by President Barack Chamberlain Obama.

  355. “I will hazard a guess that the Democratic party has a EC problem.”

Yes. And they also need to do something about vote suppression and vote protection.

  357. Can someone teach me how to color hi-light quotes?

  358. bellecat, type this example below but don’t type the quotemarks, and with no spaces between:

I think there should be a rousing rebellion asking Trump to concede BEFORE Dec 19 and the EC giving it to Hillary, the monumental popular vote victor. That is the only way this can be resolved. The perpetrator has to own up or pushed to own up to this travesty in the interest of the country. Trump should be made to think which is better — impeachment later or concession now.

  365. oops, the right link:

  366. If you think about it (not so long and hard), all, repeat ALL they had on Hillary was the email server (and the foundation), both of which even after bludgeoning to death for 18 months, there was no there there. They (media and the rightwing nutcases) had to resort to conspiracy and fake stories (pizzagate?) of ridiculous proportion to create negative news on Hillary. Now, look at the buffoon and his cadre of sewer rats, Flynn, that new SoS Exxon guy with his Russian connections, .. this is the Putin’s cabinet. Shame on the Republicans!

  367. When Teen Vogue does better than NYT

  368. Putin’s cabinet indeed…

  369. This nomination news came after the CIA Russian meddling release. Trump/Putin and his sewer rats don’t care. They are daring Obama, the congress and ultimately the people of the USA. If let stand, this is going to be a very bad precedent for the country and all downhill from here because they will populate (infect) the system with their people at all levels.

  370. It is infuriating to see the dumb idiots talking about Hillary and CGF and her nominations won’t be much different. They are still peddling the fake news about the foundation and her SoS tenure. Fuck them. She was never ever going to be a Russian puppet, you dumb mfers, like your guy is.

  371. Only way out of this,to insure little/no continued Russian influence in our federal government, is to use EC to put Hillary in as President. Trump’s own fault for placing obvious Russian supporters in his cabinet and other positions.Russians can’t manipulate Hillary, they’ve already aired all of her dirty laundry;she’s immune to all but fake news.
Trump compromised and VERY VULNERABLE to Russian influence.

Also, again, could vote counting machines be vulnerable to hacking when reporting their results to an internet connected site? Some say,”Yes”. So will investigation into Russian hacking re: election include a forensic review of these machines and their reporting mechanisms? If can’t be proven then let me quote Flynn ,Jr. here..”Prove they weren’t.” I know, hand counts in WI,MI and PA might help.

Only way to “cleanse” election doubts and insure our country isn’t being run by Kremlin puppets is to put Hillary in.Can you say,” Constitutional Crisis?”

  372. This is true not just for Sanders but for everyone else too. No passive aggressive whining. Just say directly what is wrong with it and a hell of a lot is wrong with the current political situation.

  373. “”test””

  374. Today, of all days, I’ve been trying to fight back any sense of hope for Hillary to become our legitimate President.

Why today? Why with the recent released info from the CIA?

The only reason I can think of for me to be fighting with this issue is that NO ONE of substance, with ‘standing’ and honor has been willing or able to defend our voting rights and Constitution in this entire election.

What ever is brought forth, has either be shut down by Obama, ignored by the media, or lied about by El Douche and the GOP.

Everything, including an almost 3 million vote lead by Hillary has been mocked, discarded and ignored. Her supporters have been told to give up, shut up and go to the back of the bus.

Thank you CIA for finally telling the truth.

  375. pm

It is infuriating to see the dumb idiots talking about Hillary and CGF and her nominations won’t be much different. They are still peddling the fake news about the foundation and her SoS tenure. Fuck them. She was never ever going to be a Russian puppet, you dumb mfers, like your guy is.

I couldn’t have said it better.

  376. Bellecat, it’s hard to show how because WordPress hunts down and translates ANYTHING surrounded by carets – those are the little “greater than” and “less than” symbols on the same keys, but just above, the comma and period on the keyboard.

So what got taken out of Luna’s comment was this:

less-than symbol THE WORD blockquote greater-than symbol “your text here” less-than symbol forward-slash THE WORD blockquote greater-than symbol

Take out the words THE WORD, and put your quoted text, without quotes, where “your text here” is. It’s really hard to show if an example can’t be posted but really simple when written out normally.

The right-left pair of carets (less-than, greater-than symbols) with the word “blockquote” in between indicate the beginning of the quoted text, the same thing with a forward slash before the word “blockquote” indicates the end of the quoted text.

  377. Argh! Sorry, bellecat, I went off-line right away and didn’t check on how that posted — And thanks Early!

  378. I’m going to see if this works (if nothing else, maybe it’ll give WordPress fits and make my day):

    attempting quote within quote:

    Quoted text would go here

    end of attempt

  379. No problem, Luna. My quote-within-quote attempt didn’t work either, but I did accidentally discover how to reverse the color block within quoted text 🙂

  380. Moderators, I see my use of a different email address has caused problems. Please just delete the two comments in the spam filter. I’ll find some other way to get around WP forcing me to log in and run its buggy scripts.

  381. Luna @ 6:33 – no problem!

  382. Ok here I go…

    Hillary is awesome

  383. Thanks a bunch Early, now

    I’m gonna look like a real Pro…

  384. Weapons of Electoral Destruction

    December 10, 2016 by still4hill

  385. Good article, if the Dems in the blue states can get their act together. Time for calling and emailing Congresscritters!

Through the relic of the Electoral College, it is our shame to have elected, once again, the runner-up as president of the United States. By doing so, “We the People” have disgraced ourselves in front of the whole world. Consider all the forms of rigging in which the electorate is now entangled.

  386. The only way we can insure that Russia isn’t running this country from now on is to have Hillary put in the White House via EC votes. Russians have no leverage over her because they’ve already aired all her dirty laundry.Trump apologists are making off point lame, distracting arguments about Russian influence while appointing Russian buddies to the cabinet or giving them space in the White House.

Am wondering if looking @ how Russia impacted the election includes looking @ a forensic evaluation of the voting machines, insisting on hand recounts in ALL counties in WI,MI and those, where it’s possible, in PA. Trump people w/their state Repub minions have been going nuts trying to prevent this from happening.
Again some recount lawyers are saying that some of these voting machines are vulnerable to hacking..some contain modems and/or could be vulnerable when sending vote tallies to state central locations.

I keep smelling Russian/Trumpian rats. The only way the numbers and polls and Hillary’s popular vote total makes any sense is if not all the votes were counted.Maybe Dems are playing their hand now, hoping to get Public & Repubs on-board for an investigation. Dems know any half way decent investigation will eventually show massive voter fraud. Giving Trump a chance to bow out before being indicted/impeached; if not for collusion w/a foreign government, then for violating the constitution w/ the emollients clause.

    Russia… are on notice.

  387. Bellecat, lookin good! Quite the quick study.

    Good points, Mdsal @ 9:30.

    I keep smelling Russian/Trumpian rats.

One huge rat is right in the title of this post. I think it’s time to revisit those 900 -PAGES- of BS campaign contribution violations, especially the “$27” individual donations that turned out to be more in number than there were citizens in that area.

The Electoral Commission has been entirely too lenient on the traitor Sanders, with it’s “Oh, won’t you please tell us where these completely implausible contributions came from? You won’t? Okay then, never mind”. He needs to answer those violations or go to jail.

  388. Msdsal, good point about the Russians having no leverage over Hillary, except all of her “dirty laundry” wasn’t even lightly soiled. That’s another irony, of course. They had to resort to fake news like pizzagate to dish dirt on Hillary.

  389. Kurt is right that the buffoon is confirming the CIA’s revelation by what he is NOT doing in response to this news. He is a Russian stooge. He along with Putin is daring the Americans to expose him and the Russians, throw out the election results and dislodge him. Thread:

  390. @NW Luna, on December 10, 2016 at 11:41 PM

Thank you for those links, they back up what I think is starting to occur to a lot of folks about Sanders.

I also seem to remember, although the media’s done a great job of shoving it down the Memory Hole, is that just like tRump the traitor Sanders also successfully withheld his tax returns. No accountability whatsoever for tens of millions of dollars spent in his campaign.

Put that together with his refusal to release his tax returns, thus further shielding his campaign contributions, and together with his Russian connections (Manafort, honeymoon, etc) and it looks like the Dems had a Russian stooge on their hands as well.

One thing I’m hoping for is that that international consortium of anti-hackers that descended on the Russians in the months before November 8th and exposed the Russian connection in the first place, gets busy and dishes some dirt on the Repubs, the Russians, Sanders, the FBI and especially, Comey.

[P.S.: I’m going to go off-line until I figure out how to get around logging into WordPress every time I comment. It makes me login to comment, then forces me to disable all script blockers in order to log out of the **&^% site, thus forcing a shutdown on all windows in the browser. Plus there’s a broken script on this site (probably courtesy of WP) that makes me stop the script every time it runs. There has to be some other way]

  391. Put that together with his refusal to release his tax returns, thus further shielding his campaign contributions

Augh – meant to say “refusal to answer the FEC charges, thus further shielding….”

Guess I’ll just go finish reading Marge Piercy’s Gone To Soldiers, and then start on re-reading Simone DeBeauvoir’s The Prime Of Life. Getting up to speed on the coming years should take my mind off blogging glitches.

  392. ROFL. This idiot buffoon is taking the phrase “daily intelligence briefing” literally and being offended. What a moron. It is like when he kept objecting to the word ‘patching’ some staffer was using on convention stage when they were testing the audio/teleprompter, (I don’t like that word, don’t use it). What have the voters done to this country?

  393. Another one. Does he really think intelligence briefings mean general intelligence? Does he understand what it is? At least start tweeting this to ridicule and mock him, Friends.

  394. And the little known thing that was on Fox following Comey’s letter soon after was Bret Baier’s bogus news that an indictment on Hillary was coming. He retracted it but how many saw it and it was Fox. I was at party the day Comey’s letter was news and even seemingly Dem leaning women were like, ‘oh there i more’….

  395. Give them clicks, give them love. They are behaving more responsibly than NYT/WAPO or the TV media. May be all the women like Sarah Kindzior and others, yeah there are more, who are being spurned from big outlets should start writing for these non-traditional media and also focus on younger generation in the process.

  396. Thank you for the link to Elliott Lusztig’s tweet storm on why “this fiasco” is President Obama’s responsibility, pm. I have been saying this for weeks. To me, it’s just obvious that the ultimate responsibility for protecting our security and sovereignty rests with the POTUS. And, yes, the responsibility for allowing J. Edgar Comey to go rogue in the last 10 days of the campaign rests with POTUS as well. I have read many accounts of how Comey has been sticking his finger in Obama’s eye from the moment he was sworn in as FBI Director on many issues. And Comey, who was number 2 under racist John Ashcroft, never should have been appointed as Director by Obama in the first place.

  397. Sure, Brassy! Elliott Lusztig has been one to follow, consistently making insightful points and a staunch Hillary supporter (for all the reasons as we are all). He does not give out personal info on his twitter account but he has a PhD from Harvard in political theory (?) and teaches somewhere, probably in CA (from what I could gather from his tweets).

  398. As a mental exercise, let us think about the ways Obama or his DoJ could have strongly reacted to Comey’s letter on the day it was released to negate its influence on the election. There was nothing but a mere weak DoJ did not agree with releasing that letter may be the next day or a few days after. He and his DoJ never really gave cover or support for Hillary in the email witch hunt. They could have categorically said there was nothing there. I don’t remember why the FBI got involved in the first place.

  399. “juiciest intelligence target” because the man has no shame, no ethics, and certainly no patriotism to do right by the country or its people. ‘fox guarding the hen house,’ ‘a goat guarding the cabbage patch,’ ‘fence eating the fields, (one from my native tongue)’ all apply.

“There is not just smoke here. There is a blazing 10-alarm fire, the sirens are wailing, the Russians provided the lighter fluid, and Trump is standing half-burnt and holding a match,” said Glenn Carle, a retired CIA officer and interrogator.

“The facts hurt, Trump won’t like the truth, and he will without question seek to destroy those individuals or organizations that say or do anything that he thinks harm his precious grandiosity.”

Carle, the retired CIA officer, said Trump’s temperament had played into Russia’s hands and put the president-elect on a collision course with the CIA.

He said: “Look, in my professional assessment as an intelligence officer, Trump has a reflexive, defensive, monumentally narcissistic personality, for whom the facts and national interest are irrelevant, and the only thing that counts is whatever gives personal advantage and directs attention to himself.

“He is about the juiciest intelligence target an intelligence office could imagine. He groans with vulnerabilities. He will only work with individuals or entities that agree with him and build him up, and he is a shockingly easy intelligence ‘target’ to manipulate.”

Were Trump an intelligence officer himself, Carle said, “he would be removed and possibly charged with having accepted the clandestine support of a hostile power to the harm of the United States”.

  400. I hope someone can elaborate more on this article…

Washington state presidential electors file third lawsuit in anti-Trump effort

    By Kyle Cheney

    12/10/16 10:13 PM EST

  401. Comey hijacked what was supposed to be a security review before the emails were released, pm. A routine practice to make sure there was no classified info in them. The DOJ never considered a criminal investigation. Once Comey got involved, he transformed it into a preliminary criminal inquiry which is unprecedented but insured that Hillary’s emails stayed in the news and were seen as shady somehow–even as they were released and turned out to be totally innocuous. The supposedly non-political Comey acted in a totally political way. And I believe it was Comey who originally leaked (incorrectly) that Hillary was under criminal investigation over her emails to the NYT. Remember how shocked the NYT was when DOJ denied there was a criminal investigation because their anonymous source was so high-placed and reliable. Anyway, Comey just went ahead with his criminal investigation since no one stopped him. He is not “independent” as billed; rather, he is unaccountable.

  402. Got it, Brassy Rebel. Thanks. That was the shoddy first NYT article that people refer to which blew the whole thing out of proportion. That Comey is still standing is a travesty. At least now that the election is over, couldn’t Obama or DoJ slap him with Hatch Act violation and let him pay the price? Even for that I wonder if the magic moment is past.

  403. Belle @ 3:22 PM: Sounds like more Dem electors who want to dump HIllary to stop Trump by voting for a moderate Republican.

  404. Bernie Bros who should have known better (than Trump’s rubes)

  405. That is how Stein ended up withe so many votes, so many that were twice or more times the size of the difference between Hillary and the buffoon.

  406. If people here want to call their congress reps:

  407. Bernie Bros are going to pay the piper for their immature foolishness. And Bernie will laugh all the way to the bank in the process.

  408. I don’t watch the morning shows but today a friend of mine did and said Chuck Todd went on for 13 minutes at Priebus about the Russians working on behalf of the GOP.

  409. True that, Upps, and the Bernie Babes are about to experience the full Handmaid’s Tale.

  410. Yeah, the Bernie Bros were a big a fools as the conservatives.

  411. Is Amanda Marcotte this clueless? Assange helped the Russians to prop up Trump because Hillary would fry his guilty ass and bring justice to the criminal that he is.

  412. Bipartisan group of senators calls for probe of Russian role in 2016 US elections

  413. Brassy Rebel has it exactly right on Comey. The key point that most people, even the favorable media people, completely miss, is that there was never an authorization from DOJ or anywhere else to undertake a criminal investigation of Hillary regarding emais. Comey invented that. In the early days, I was confused as to how somehow a routine review of emails suddenly turned into some kind of criminal inquiry. And I remembver Comey. apparently asked about this, saying that “it is a criminal inquiry, that is what we do.” But it was his criiminal inquiry, done unilaterally. And all the media bought it. It is probably actually worse than what tne infamous Hoover did. Comey simply made up a criminal inquiry against a candidate for President, which he knew would come to nothing. I also remember him saying that there was no deadline, “we want to get this right.” Again, utter nonsense, there was no “this.” Then he finally is forced to conclude that there is no criminal act, but of course blasts Hillary for nothing, and the media pick it up as “a blistering criticism.” Yes, from a thoroughly corrupt and partisan renegade FBI Director.

And what does Obama do about any of this? Nothng. When Comey writes that letter to Congress,of course also deliberately done to destroy Hillary’s candidacy, Obama says that Comey is an honorable person, which is thoroughly untrue; and either betokens Obama’s utter lack of insight, or is simply a conciliation. Then he has DOJ try to hurry Comey up, which is again wrong, because apparently the second letter was even more damaging, because it got emails back in the headlines again. Many pollsters on both sides note that Hilary’s suppport in key swing states collapsed then, at least enough to cost her the 80,000 votes which would have won the election. And Obama throughout did not support Hillary where she needed it. He was more concerned about not angering Republicans, not criticizing his own FBI Director, than in her winning and saving the country from fascism. He pulled the rug out from under her; he was so concerned about looking partisan, that he behaved like a partisan from the other side. There is no possible way to spin this in an explanatory manner toward him. What he did and didn’t do was absolutely wrong and unconscionable. He had the power to risk a few percent off his favorabllity ratings to attempt to insure Hillary’s election, and the saving of democracy, and he refused to use it.

  414. What William said in his comment makes me so mad. I see it that way too. Obama is such a useless prig, but he just HAD to be Pres. before Hillary, because….?

  415. Here are a few more things that aren’t passing the “smell” test.
In WI,no hand recounts in the counties w/the highest proportion of Hillary voters;this w/misleading ballot instructions that lead many to write in or circle their preference rather than bubble in…HUGE number of “under votes” but only for president. In MI,no hand recount in Detroit or Wayne County,Hillary territory ;87 counting machines there NOT working on election day;some ballots “ruined” by machines and deemed “Uncountable” Also three times the number of “under votes”,no vote for Prez.. Hmmm And,once again where/how were vote tallies collected? Were they reported on a state website that WAS connected to the internet?

Not clear to me if the look into the election and hacking will include actually recounting votes by hand .That would be the best way, along w/forensic looks into the machines, to determine if vote hacking had occurred.
Plus how rich is this,,Repubs kept maintaining that Hillary’s servers could have been hacked..but we’ll never know..HORRORS…BUT the RNC couldn’t have been hacked because Comey’s FBI said it wasn’t.
Right..and Russia isn’t really behind that curtain..and those guys in the proposed cabinet..just because they have friends in Russia and the Ukraine and have lots of $ invested there..Hey,they’ll do the right thing by the American people..TRUST ME!!

    I still say,”Acknowledge the coup.”

  416. IIRC, Comey was at the briefing the CIA gave to the Gang of 12 in Sept. Then I heard that the FBI didn’t agree with the CIA’s strong statement about Russia’s involvement. They want more evidence. Wasn’t the FBI also supposed to be investigating Manafort and Russian connections to the Trump campaign? Where are those findings? Comey is in this up to his eyeballs and he still has his damn job. The partisan corruption is astounding, and the Dems just accept it and look to the future, but there may not be one for any of us. The Russians and the Repubs are playing masterful chess and the Dems are playing tiddly winks like wide-eyed toddlers.

  417. Looong thread — read through the end. Reading it made me cry. This is the America I gave up my other citizenship for. Let us dare the mfers to ruin it. They won’t.

  418. Here is a ‘storify’ link for the same — easier.

  419. Haven’t seen this here yet – apologies if it is buried somewhere amongst all these comments:

And the Koch Brothers’ fingerprints are all over it:

Donald Trump aides are attempting to identify Department of Energy staffers who played a role in promoting President Barack Obama’s climate policies, according to details of a leaked transition team questionnaire published by Bloomberg Thursday night. Bloomberg goes on to say the document was confirmed by two Energy Department employees, who said agency staff were “unsettled” by the request.

  420. Well pm I didn’t care for the cliff hanger ending of the Garland thread but he did put us on notice with a Gibbs smack to the back of the head! I agree that Hillary probably had the best move on the board. I don’t think she can be the messenger on this, half the country irrationally hates her on sight. I do think she is the one to get us through this, however. She’s got the brains and the heart and hopefully the balls. I wonder if the electoral college will botch the traditional rubber stamp vote which would throw it to the House which could possibly, by bipartisan vote, make her our rightful President. Boy, I sound like a lunatic. Forgive me!

  421. Under George W. Bush:

“President Obama discontinued NSEERS in 2011 but left the regulatory framework on the books, ready to be reactivated at any time,” the ACLU said in a statement. “If the Obama administration rescinds the regulation now, that will terminate the program, leaving nothing for the next administration to reactivate.”

Essaheb said talk of renewing such a program overlooks the impact on people.

“Campaigns and elections have a certain style and there’s a rhetoric that goes along with that that may play well with rallies, but at the end of the day these are human beings. These are individual lives that would be impacted by policies like this,” Essaheb said. “A Muslim registry is not just a list of people. A Muslim registry is families that have been here decades whose lives could be destroyed because of this.”

    Read more here:

  422. Early: Rachel Maddow mentioned this a day or so ago. Made it sound like a precursor to a purge. She also indicated that this is highly unusual because these are skilled Government employees who stay from admin to admin to provide continuity and stability regardless of which party has the presidency. They are not partisan appointments.

  423. cats… yeah, it is a cliff hanger because nobody knows what the future holds. As the aftermath of 9/11 was a confusing time, this is order of magnitude more. I liked his optimism in the end which I share. This is a crisis but I don’t think people will let this country be ruined despite half the voters being idiots. And, you are right that Hillary and others will lead the way. We have 17 or so intel agencies and add that to the list those in Western Europe; we have 5 living presidents and we have strong institutions with long history of doing things right. They will not sit on the sidelines watching the country burn.

  424. pm, yes, but that Assange was easy to manipulate because of his women-hating bigotry still stands.

  425. If Pumpkinhead does make it through all of this, he’s going to face the same problem that Obama, and Bush Junior, and Bill Clinton faced; a large portion of the citizenry simply will not consider him a legitimate president.

Now that I think about it, the last president whom the rank and file of the opposition accepted as legitimate was Bush Senior.

  426. Cat at 11:04 PM:

Thank you for that information. I’m glad it’s getting some TV exposure as well. Purging a regulatory agency like the Department of Energy of employees, just for doing their jobs – another new low for this horror-in-waiting.

  427. Argh, that was supposed to show the tweet Joy was responding to:

  428. William, as an attorney, you know that in order to undertake a criminal investigation, there must be clear evidence of a crime. Of course, there never was in this case. And even if there was, it would not be Comey’s decision. As FBI Director, he is supposed to gather evidence at the direction of prosecutors. He has usurped all the power. He sees himself as investigator, prosecutor, jury, and judge. Apparently, he wanted to investigate the Clinton Foundation–again with no evidence of a crime except a debunked book financed by Steve Bannon. Prosecutors finally said, no, but FBI is probably investigating anyway–to paraphrase J. Edgar Comey, that’s what they do.

  429. We need a new thread!

  430. I agree, a new thread would be much appreciated. I would love to have the thread mention Hillary’s vote count: 2,841,883 more than El Douche, and counting…

  431. Brassy and William: Lynch is still AG, Obama is still President so why hasn’t Comey been fired for exceeding his authority and violating agency policies/regulations in both Feb and Nov with emails and possibly also with the Clinton Foundation now? I had also read someone has filed a complaint against him for violating the Hatch Act. Why hasn’t he at least been suspended pending an investigation of HIS activities?

Just heard on the radio that Stein’s request for a a recount and forensic evaluation of machines in PA has been denied.

  432. Cats, I have seen that Comey has been a thorn in Obama’s side from day 1. He constantly meddles in policy like criminal justice reform when he is not supposed to be involved in policy ar all. He is not the AG but thinks he is, and Lynch can’t or won’t control him. So the time to fire him was when he began exceeding his authority, and Obama had time to replace him. Now firing him would be problematic since Trump would end up replacing him. Ugh!

  433. Maybe Trump will appoint Comey AG. He’s rewarding everyone else who helped him. And Comey’s doing the job anyway after elbowing Lynch out of the way.

  434. Reid is speaking out again…good for him!!

Reid: FBI director’s letter cost Democrats the election, Senate

  435. Thanks Brassy, that makes sense. This pile of poo just gets bigger and stinkier…

  436. Brassy Rebel, as you know, Obama didn’t fire Comey because it would have caused consternation, and he hates that above all. He shouldn’t have reappointed him in the first place; Republicans always put their own people in. He let Comey do something which was indeed illegal, and then something perhaps even worse and unprecedented. He had not a word to say other than that Comey was honorable. So he not only didn’t help Hillary, he undercut her, made it look as if a criminal investigation of her was warranted. If he had spoken up earlier, told Comey to stop it, or he’d fire him; or if he even had criticized Comey along the way, Hillary wins. But one has to reach the conclusion that Obama is more concerned about his image and favorables, than making the country safe for democracy going forward.

You know, we see a number of comments by the more favorable pundits, along the lines of “what would the Republicans be doing if things had been reversed?,” etc. For example, it has been suggested that had Hillary lost by 3 million votes and won the electoral college, there would be a massive outcry for her to step down. The thing is, this is what is so horribly wrong with out country. Republicans will do everything they can to win, including threats, cheating, using hand-picked judges to enforce their will. The media, their collaborators, always gives them cover for this. The Democrats never do it. It becomes expected; and weirdly, almost the way things are supposed to be. Democrats are supposed to lose graciously, Republicans are supposed to fight and cheat and win.

A coutnry cannot exist in this way. I don’t know what the answer is. Not becoming as evil alnd corrupted as Republicans. But certainly taking the risk of calling out fascism and cheating for what it is. People might reward them for it; ad if they don’t, well, how do they end up any worse than now with Republicans, with a minority of votes in the Presidential Senate, and House races, controlling all of them, and the statehouses? Get up and say that they are fascists, that they put winning ahead of being taken over by a foreign power. Even use the word treason. McConnell “threatened” Obama by saing that if he told the country about the Russian interference, he would acuse of partisanship. So? That’s all Republicans ever are. Stand up against this, or just fold your hand and submit to a totalitarian state. Obama doesn’t see it that way, to his great detriment. FDR or HT or JFK or LBJ or WJC or HRC would have.

  437. Is there anybody left we haven’t blamed? Asking for a friend.

  438. Trump battles for legitimacy [Good luck with that El Douche!]

A leaked CIA report backs the president-elect into a corner as Democrats pounce.

  439. Once again, didn’t Hitler do this too?

And other dictators, (cough Putin, cough, cough.) ????

Trump to inherit state-run TV network with expanded reach
A provision tucked into the defense bill guts the Voice of America board, stoking fears that Trump could wield a powerful propaganda arm.

  440. Uppity, Have we blamed Clinton at all??

  441. Vote count finally changed again today.

Hillary leads by 2,844,802…I hope she makes at least 3 million.

  442. I will not blame Hillary Clinton for anything that happened. She has been vilified long enough for too many made up things. No one is perfect and I did and do not require her to be perfect. She has my eternal gratitude for everything that she has so selflessly done for me and my adopted country. As far as I am concerned she has conducted herself with honesty and compassion, and acted honorably. I am a better person knowing that someone like her exists. She takes all the sh!t this world can throw and continues to fight for me. I will forever hold her in the highest regard. She is an exceptional woman and this world is better for having her in it.

I’m done with all the cr@p and blame that Clinton has had to bear due to a bunch of racist, sexist, bigoted, xenophobic WWC.

Trump is an illegitimate President Elect. He won the electoral college due to the intervention and machinations of Putin. This is outrageous. Whether or not the news wants to admit it, we are in a constitutional crisis.

  443. fllvoter, I agree with what you said about Hillary. I also admire her greatly and believe she has been totally abused by the Republicans. I do think her campaign should of had more of an economic message and campaigned more in the rust belt, but with the Wikileaks and Comey interference, it was just about impossible to beat that.

We are in a crisis, whether people want to believe it or not. Trump is illegitimate and his actions are showing this everyday. His cabinet picks are the worst of the worst, and totally inappropriate. Putin probably wanted Trump to nominate his good friend as secretary of state. Flynn is totally inappropriate as NSA and the deputy McFarland is even more inappropriate.

I wouldn’t be the least surprised, if the RNC has been hacked and there is information that Putin can use for blackmail. I can’t believe that I am typing this. It seems so surreal. Plus, Trump is in debt to Russia, China, the Deutsche Bank, and god only knows who else.

  444. U.S. judge rejects Jill Stein bid for Pennsylvania recount

In a 31-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Paul Diamond in Philadelphia said it “borders on the irrational” to suspect hacking occurred in Pennsylvania. He also emphasized that the deadline to certify the state’s electoral votes is Tuesday, making it impossible to hold a recount in time.

The Stein Recount Petition did not change a thing, -some might remind me: I told you so. Yet, “borders on the irrational” NOT TO ALLOW the ballot recount and audit.

  445. Clinton did the right thing regarding the rust belt states. She refused to play the race game with them. Minorities and immigrants are not the cause of their problems. We need international trade to survive and multiculturalism is here to stay. She spoke the truth to them but all they wanted to hear was that “the other” was to blame for their problems. The future of the Democrats does not lie with the rust belt and people like Bernie Sanders, but with Arizona, Florida, Texas, Georgia and North Carolina. As the minority communities grow in those states so will the Democratic Party. We immigrants and minorities are growing and we vote. Demographics are against people like Trump, the WWC and Republicans. This election solidified their ranking with minorities as just another hate group. Irreparable damage was done to the Republican Party by their own hand.

If the Democrats are smart they will not throw minorities and immigrants away to cater to a group of racist, sexist, bigoted xenophobic WWC voters in the rust belt. They need to focus on voter suppression now.

  446. Ugh, I loathe this fucking reporter. Why do we have to explain anything to the buffoon’s supporters? The idiots either see it or they don’t. Let them educate themselves about what is right.

  447. Flvoter, all well said. Putting aside the morality of it for just a second, I was thinking the other day about whether the Democrats are a permanent electoral minority with states like Ohio trending very much away from them. We would absolutely need to be able to make Florida a blue state for every election, to counteract the Rust Belt. I have heard that a number of conservatives from various states have moved to FL in recent years. I thought we were surely going to win FL this time, but maybe that development prevented it.. NC is difficult, though I’m glad the awful governor was defeated. VA was barely won. I certainly agree with your point, but we are going to have to be able to win FL and maybe NC with this strategy, to counteract the other trends. Texas will be a longshot for several more cycles, I am sure. We should have realized the concerns with the Rust Belt when over the last few years, many of those states elected right-wing governors and legislatures.

That was a great decision by the PA court. Wait as long as possible, and then say it is too late, sorry. Of such decisions are dictatorships made.

Agree and well said. I don’t want to hear any criticism of Hillary’s campaign. Sorry, not blind but given everything that happened outside of her campaign, she held on to her principles while upholding the dignity and humanity of this country. The majority agreed with her.

    (and yes, this is sarcasm)

  450. WTF are you people talking about. I never said this is Hillary’s fault.Jesus H Christ. This place is becoming toxic.

I am going to change the theme of this blog sometime in the near future. Otherwise I won’t be able to stand this place any longer.

  451. It’s Beyonce & The Dixie Chicks fault as well for intruding on the CMA’s right before the election thus adding more fuel to the alt-right’s indignation.

    (and yes, this is sarcasm)

    Don’t rule out Madonna.

  452. Calm down, Uppity. You are on edge lately (I guess we all are). We are all friends here and I don’t think there is any sniping or toxic stuff going on (and I don’t think we can even think of being rude to you considering this is your blog). I think flvoter may have been responding to birdgal and I responded to flvoter only because I had just seen a Joy Reid tweet that said Hillary’s campaign made some big mistakes like not going to WI, and such. I didn’t think you were saying this was Hillary’s fault. That said, I am going to run, if you are in this mood, 😉

  453. Sorry. I was just responding to Uppity’s general statement. I certainly didn’t mean to offend anyone. I think Flvoter was responding to my comment.

with the Bernie’s Fault theme it’s been a parade of who’s to blame venting…

  455. U.S.
GOP Leaders in Congress Break With Trump on Russia
Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell warn that Russia is a threat, not a friend.

  456. I have to believe that whatever the CIA has on the Trump/Russia connection must be VERY damning or McConnell wouldn’t be calling for a bi-partisan inquiry. Ryan either, for that matter;he wouldn’t want anything to threaten his scorched earth agenda.Just looking @ McConnell’s face when he announced his support was enough to put a big smile on my face.

You could sense a change in the MSM on Friday when some of this broke and even ol” Chuck Todd kind of found his groove by Sunday. The sharks smell blood in the sharks salivate?

Hey,maybe the CIA set up a sting during the election and “caught” the Russians in action. Wouldn’t that be both scary AND sweet? Maybe they sat on the info waiting to see if Trump did something/s to demonstrate his connections. Didn’t take him long, did it? Also didn’t take the Repubs long to over play their hand..they do it EVERY time.

They may be giving Trump a chance to back out before unleashing the hounds. What’s your preference Donald.. resign, treason or a short term presidency?

Also, re: the Million Woman March..who’s to stop us from attending the Inaugural on the mall? All dressed in purple ,green or white. Then when Trump starts to by one we turn our backs on him and walk away. That should send a message and it doesn’t require any special permits.

  457. Here’s What America Needs to Know About Trump and Russia

My time as the Pentagon’s Russia-watcher suggests we need much more disclosure, and soon. By Evelyn Farkas, December 12, 2016

  458. Who thinks, we will end up with Pence, if something happens with Trump?

  459. I am not on edge. Don’t gaslight me. I just do not like what I am seeing happening here. I never wanted a blog where a person could visit and want to slash their wrists reading it.

  460. Is there anybody left we haven’t blamed? Asking for a friend.

    I don’t get it Uppity.

Yes, we all may not agree, but your above comment was pretty open to interpretation, don’t you think? It is the only thing you have posted in what, a couple of days or more?

That in itself, made it seem like something that stood out and many of us wondered what type of answer you were seeking, for a friend.

Now you hate what people are saying on the blog and think it is so horrible people want to slash their wrists over our comments.

Maybe we need to find somewhere else to go, so you don’t feel the need to change the blog altogether?

  461. My beloved Upps:
We don’t like what we are seeing happening here; what happened to our Hillary and what is happening to our country, either…

Some of us have lost the sense of humor and sarcasm a la Samantha Bee… and your basic “joie de vivre”.

    I got your comment…it was sarcasm alright…

And guess what? I have a black gentleman Kitty woo woo me for the past week…we are engaged…I’m trying to figure out how to steal “Leo” from my neighbor…I would prefer to call him Antoine, but Leo is OK as of Leonardo De Caprio…you know, my wet dream fantasy like your Sherrood….

  462. This!

…who’s to stop us from attending the Inaugural on the mall? All dressed in purple, green or white. Then when Trump starts to speak…one by one we turn our backs on him and walk away.

  463. Shadow:
    It was a sarcastic comment…
We all here have gotten into a frantic rage of trying to explain:

May be it was a “perfect storm”…
oops! here I go, putting the blame on…

  464. Uppity, all I was trying to do was try to help (gaslight? NO, such an ugly word). I don’t understand what is going on here. It is your blog, your house. We all try to behave. If you don’t like something, just say it. Or maybe this is your way of saying it. Message received.

  465. Yes I was responding to Birdgal. As for Florida the 2018 governors race will give a big indication if Florida will be blue in 2020, Gwen Graham is said to be running for governor. Rick Scott cannot run again thank God! If graham wins she will be the first woman Florida governor and the first democrat since Lawton Chiles was elected. This next florida governors race I believe will be a big deal and one to watch,

  466. What does gaslighting mean?

  468. “Congressional Benghazi panel disbands after issuing final report”
BY BROOKE SEIPEL – 12/12/16 04:46 PM EST

  469. It is interesting that many speculate that Trump might be impeached at some point, and then Pence would be president. If it happened to be regarding the Russian connection, it would certainly seem that Pence, being part of the ticket, should also be implicated. Of course, the rules seem to be whatever the Republicans want them to be. But this is not like with Nixon, where Ford was clearly not complicit, and so took over. If the entire Trump campaign was consorting with Russia, how by any reasonable logical conception, would Pence be able to say that he had no idea whatsoever, and should be president? Wouldn’t the entire ticket and campaign be subject to criminal charges? I would surely want to make that argument.

  470. Wm, Pence has been receiving the bulk of classified briefings. Don’t you think those briefings have included information on Russia hacking the DNC and whatever else? if so, then Pence is also complicit.

Putin seems to be controlling our government. With Flynn, Trump, and Tillerson all having close ties to Putin, what else is one to think? Everyday seems to be getting worse.

  471. Trump battles for legitimacy

A leaked CIA report backs the president-elect into a corner as Democrats pounce.

  472. William, I agree. How can the Trump campaign’s collusion with Russia not include Pence?

Harry Reid: The Trump Campaign ‘Was In On’ Russia’s Election Hacking

  473. Shadow, gaslighting is accusing your opponent of being irrational, and using techniques designed to confuse him/her into questioning her own sanity and interpretation of evidence. Also includes accusing your opponent of doing the very things which you are doing to them. In short, #tRrump is gaslighting all of us. His accusations of Hillary rigging the election, of being a puppet, of being corrupt, etc., are all classic gaslighting techniques.

See this article (yeah, it’s in TeenVogue, but surprisingly is very well written):

  474. This is why the Independent is, at least for now, my go to source for news.

The Guardian is bro central, the Star has turned pragmatic, CBC sold women out completely after they lost their last strike in 2006 or so (kinda like that hamburger chain Hardee’s, whose owner is tRump’s choice for Sec. of Labor: “Hey, there’s a lot of guys out there that hate women! Let’s go get em!” )

In Pennsylvania, US District Judge Paul Diamond said there were at least six grounds that required him to reject the Green Party’s lawsuit, which had been opposed by Mr Trump, the Pennsylvania Republican Party, and the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office.

Suspicion of a hacked Pennsylvania election “borders on the irrational” and granting the Green Party’s recount bid could “ensure that no Pennsylvania vote counts”, given Tuesday’s federal deadline to certify the vote for the Electoral College, wrote Mr Diamond, an appointee of former Republican President George W. Bush.

  475. Luna @ 3:21,

Well, the Independent -and- Teen Vogue. Good, hard-hitting article.

Back in 2008, Cosmopolitan was a reliable source for news and encouragement about HRC. No reason Teen Vogue shouldn’t be that now.

  476. I am one of those mostly lurkers whose concerns are not quite on track with what is here but I still like to bask in the glow of those who truly support hrc, even if you are fighting windmills (smile).
FWIW, I am concerned about how the majority voters will survive and also try to protect the most vulnerable in a trunipp presidency and ‘destroy America’ cabinet.

Being a realist, I do not think there are enough electoral (college?!) members who will vote for America vs a 1984 type America.
No way will a Repub congress vote down more than one, maybe two cabinet picks. And they will be replaced by clones.

Call me a debbie downer but I call me a realist who wants real solutions for saving our country’s integrity and a modicum of empathy for all our citizens.
I will go back into lurking mode now. And I do appreciate and enjoy and agree with the rants against media and t supporters (I don’t forgive them) and all the other spineless public figures and the Bernie bros who brought us this.

I hate them all but what do we do now?

  477. Sorry, you may not find this interesting but I just saw this by Gene Weingarten (washpost) in a header for a chat:

I think there is going to be open warfare between the President of the United States and the media. … I think at some point fairly soon, after the media begins doing its job, and starts getting beaucoup leaks from patriots in government — I think Trump is simply going to cut us off. Take his case straight to the people. Stop even answering press request.
    And then what?
If we have strength and character, the war will be out in the open. And I think we win. But it will be brutal.

Me: I don’t have a great deal of faith that the TV media will do this, and few print journalists, but…we shall see.

  478. Gray, I also share your concerns about our country. It seems that the proposed cabinet is out to destroy what is good about our country and put more money into the pockets of the 0.1% of the 1 %. I fear for our environment, world peace, middle and lower income workers, as well as all of our vulnerable populations. What is more scary are the millions of people who agree with the incoming administration’s cabinet picks. These are scary times.

What can we do? Become active in our volunteer organizations, keep talking about it, support each other, donate to our charitable causes, fight for social justice, and whatever else we think might help.

  479. Rex W. Tillerson, the chief executive of Exxon Mobil, as his choice to be the nation’s chief diplomat.

Flawed Choices for the State Department

Donald Trump has chosen for the top post an apologist for Russia.

Reports: Rick Perry lands spot in Trump’s Cabinet as Energy Secretary

Isn’t it so obvious with this picks what’s going on?
And who and how is going to stop this wreck of our country sovereignty and loot of our federal coffers?

  480. Great news for women & girls in L.A.! Had Hillary won, we’d be seeing more states proposing such plans.

“County Considers Plans to Alleviate Gender Inequality”
By SoCal Patch (Patch Staff) – December 13, 2016 12:22 pm ET

The LA County Board of Supervisors looks to create a 5-year County Initiative on Women and Girls aimed at reducing gender inequality.

  481. And the bulling keeps on…

RNC keeps close tabs on Electoral College vote

GOP effort makes sure Republican electors don’t go wobbly on Trump.

The RNC’s elector head count, the sources emphasized, is standard practice in presidential election years. But this year it also serves as an early-warning system for potentially wayward GOP electors amid an intense push by Democratic electors to convince 37 of their Republican counterparts to jump ship. The Democrats are hoping that dozens of GOP electors — many of whom were picked at local conventions and party meetings dominated by Trump’s opponents — are already primed to resist Trump.

  482. Unbelievable cabinet picks. They all want to destroy the department that they are chosen to lead. The environment, education, trade unions, and workers are going to be badly hit, if these picks have their way.

  483. Heard on the radio that Condi, “I seem to recall a memo..,” thinks Tillerson is an excellent choice. Newt thinks he’s great too. This is f***ing awesome reality TV! Is Kanye up for a cab position? And the tweets, they just keep coming. Hillary would have been soooo boring.

  484. I could use some of Hillary’s boring right now. There were other things I wanted to do w/my life knowing that the government would be in good hands w/Hillary in the Presidency. I’m kind of fond of competence, myself. Now I have to go back and refight battles I thought were won back in the 70’s.

So the people who brought us the Iraq war and then blamed the CIA when things went south…are in support of Tillerson? Wow,isn’t that damning w/faint praise? Or counter intuitive?

  485. I’m with you Msdsal! I still stupidly glance at comments on various political articles and the rabid, noxious hatred of Hillary and Democrats is appalling. I truly hope that the basket of deplorables isn’t as large as originally estimated…

  486. For Chris sake, Condi had an oil tanker named after her.

  487. after the media begins doing its job,

    Hahahahahahahahahaaaaaa. Hahahaahahahahahahahaha (breathe) Hahahahahahahahaha Hahahahahaha

  488. even if you are fighting windmills (smile).

    I LOVE Realists.

I hate them all but what do we do now?

Live your life to the fullest, laugh, kiss your kids, your dog, your cat, somebody, and hope you don’t get any crap on you. Just like always.

  489. Email addresses all the presidential electors:

  490. “Please,Miss, might we have a new thread for Christmas?”

  491. “Please,Miss, might we have a new thread for Christmas?”

    No! Humbug!

  492. OK, no new thread for Christmas but you weaken your “Humbug ” argument with such a festive new header..most beautimous. I do,
however, have a slight concern for Bill and the bow. That’s not stuck to his fur,is it?
Whenever I take my Springer,Gracie to the groomers, they put bows on rubber bands on her ears,,takes forever to get those suckers out and doesn’t make the dog very happy either.

PS- Just being a smart ass,Ms. Uppity..I know you’d never do anything to hurt your Bill..especially not just for a photo spread..even if it is almost Christmas and we all do our best to be cheerful and dress up.

  493. Whether you like her or not, Madonna’s speech as BillBoard Women of 2016 is tremendous. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone tell it like it is concerning women in the music/entertainment industry. Definitely worth a listen! (I kept thinking of Hillary as she spoke.)

  494. Msdsal, don’t worry about MK Bill, he let Uppity put it on for the picture , so he could post it on the kittieh singles sites. LOL

  495. Trista: thank you so much for the Madonna link. Didn’t know she had endured so much for so long, and she like Gaga had been raped. You could see from so many of the women’s faces that they understood, they had felt the same pain, shame and anger maybe not to the same degree, but they got it. Also loved that Bowie was her inspiration. David, Madonna and Hillary, all trailblazers in their own way.

  496. Sorry, Trixta, damn autocorrect changed your name.

  497. You’re welcome, cats. I, agree, the women in that room were riveted; their expressions and tears said it all. It was a pretty heavy speech but uplifting in the end (like her music).

Fun video of Hillary and Madonna:
