Something nice

Here’s your Christmas present, Uppityites–something nice to read for a change:

The photos you haven’t seen of Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail

hill_in_carIn the two years I was on the trail documenting Hillary Clinton’s bid to become the first female president of the United States, I tried each day to resist falling into the visual malaise of documenting the photo op version of a presidential candidate. I reminded myself to always work to reveal the character of the woman and to scrutinize my shoots for any hint of caricature. My instincts always lead me to explore the reasons, emotions and actions — Hillary Clinton embracing a moment late in the campaign, refusing to leave a Florida rally in the driving rain so she could meet more voters. Talking to her staff, stone-faced and intent, aboard her campaign plane on the day that FBI Director James B. Comey announced that the FBI would reopen its investigation of Clinton’s use of a private email server. Throwing her head back and letting out her patented, wall-rumbling laugh while putting on a Halloween mask. Each day, as she negotiated the line of “electability,” struggling to show her humanity without losing her credibility as a candidate, I witnessed Hillary Clinton earning every line on her endlessly expressive face.

  1. Thanks Sophie for a nice clean thread…which I am promptly going to “dirty”…courtesy of Dame Helen Mirren:

  2. Thank you Sophie.
The first picture on the link is an awesome and impressive B&W that will be part of history.
all others are just as good…

  3. Voting:
    Great video…Helen Mirren, quite a Dame…
    Thank you.

  4. LOL, Voting–I was just about to post that Mirren video as well.

  7. Great pics, Sophie! Thank you for the new thread!

  8. Shadow, this one’s for you! California lawmakers to introduce TRUMP ACT — “Tax Returns Uniformly Made Public.”

“California join efforts to force Trump to release tax returns”
BY JENNIFER CALFAS – 12/19/16 09:57 AM EST

“California lawmakers are joining an effort started by New York state Democrats to force President-elect Donald Trump to release his tax returns before the 2020 election.

California state senators plan to introduce the TRUMP Act, or Tax Returns Uniformly Made Public Act, BuzzFeed reported on Monday.

It would forbid state electors from voting for Trump in 2020 if he had not already released five years of tax returns.”

  9. Every year Rand Paul does a bunch of tweets he calls #AiringGrievances. It’s all in fun & he is on a roll this year. My fave two:

  10. Thank you one and all for continuing to fight the good fight with information, insight, compassion, the occasional appropriate angry outburst and above all, humor. OH and a new thread every now and then (Thanks Sophie for today’s).
Let’s take a breath and a break..then back to it.I’m having the neighbor kids for a sleep over tonight. We’re going out to dinner and then movies and popcorn. This’ll give their Mom a break so she can get ready for Christmas and I get to send them home after waffles tomorrow. Just a nice little reminder of what we do all this for..why we continue to work for a better world;why we care.

Off to buy light bulbs ,which is not as simple a task as it used to be.

    Thanks trixta.

Good to see that it might be the start of the big blue states working together…but it’s too weak for me and the Dems have to worry about the entire election in four years where big states votes are near worthless. They also need to win back seats in the House and Senate or they are toast.

I still prefer the , ‘Release your taxes taxes for the past 10 years, Der Douche, or we refuse to pay our taxes!’ You can’t destroy our country without our tax money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And BTW Phuck you!”

  12. Thank you for the new thread Sophie!

More Americans voted for Hillary Clinton than any other losing (stolen votes) Presidential candidate in US history.

Hillary Clinton, the Democrat, outpaced president-elect Donald Trump by almost 2.9 million votes, with 65,844,954 (48.2%) to his 62,979,879 (46.1%), according to revised and certified final election results from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Clinton’s 2.1% margin ranks third among defeated candidates, according to statistics from US Elections Atlas. Andrew Jackson won by more than 10% in 1824 but was denied the presidency, which went to John Quincy Adams. In 1876, Samuel Tilden received 3% more votes than Rutherford B. Hayes, who eventually triumphed by one electoral vote.

  13. And to post something nice to the new thread, the winner of all three debates…

  14. Sophie, thanks for the post and the Hillary pics. I could not help being sad with the picture showing her after the reopening of the email investigation.

  15. Just LOVE this, I’m sure you will too…
    I’m also in tears…

Now, We Must all be Hillary Clinton

  16. Thanks for the pics link Sophie. I had already heard the comments there were nasty so I made sure just to look at the pics. 😪

  17. How James Comey and Loretta Lynch made Donald Trump the president of the United States http://wpo.st/qBOO2

  18. … in a race that was decided by 77,000 votes spread across Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan…

When Hillary got 65,844,610 votes and 2.9 million more votes than the so call president elect; that’s hardly a win in a country of 318.9 million (2014).

Is this a farce, of what?
    I call it “corruption”.
    Shame on America…

  19. Something else nice…new photos of our girl ❤ Love you Hillary!

  35. Lol, Sophie! I saw that great tweet yesterday. They were going to force those women to perform @ the inauguration. Guess there was so much outcry it’s voluntary now. It better be!

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukka to all!

  36. Have survived the neighbor kid sleep over..so far. Is there anything more precious than the sight of a child sleeping safe and sound? Is there anything more exhausting than children? OK,OK maybe a puppy or kitten.

I feel like we’re all going to be needing some safe sanctuaries every now and then in the next few years, when we’re not resisting, fighting, distracting.
When you pray the Medicine Wheel, the last part of the prayer is to “Protect the children and the children’s children, until the sun no longer sets and the moon no longer rises.”

Those have been and will continue to be my marching orders.

No matter what holiday you celebrate in this season of light;may you and yours be safe, well fed and warm.
